The effect of $MnO_{2}$ as a sintering additive on the microstructures and the piezoelectric properties, especially mechanical quality factor, of 0.05 Pb$(Sb_{0.5}Nb_{0.5})O_{3}$-0.95 Pb$(Zr_{0.52}Ti_{0.48})O_{3}$ (PSN-PZT) piezoelectric ceramics was investigated. The samples were sintered at $1250^{\circ}C$ for 2 h. The crystal structure and surface morphology of the sample were examined using XRD and FE-SEM, respectively. A study on the influence of $MnO_{2}$ additives on the dielectric and piezoelectric properties showed that the $MnO_{2}$-added PSN-PZT system exhibited a high mechanical quality factor and well-situated piezoelectric properties. The optimized results of $d_{33}$ (319 pC/N), $k_{p}$ (55 %), and $Q_{m}$ (751.24) were obtained at 0.2 wt% $MnO_{2}$ added PSN-PZT piezoelectrics.

In this study, we used an $O_2$-sensitive luminescent dye to measure the $O_2$ concentration of culture media around HeLa cells cultured in a microchannel. $[Ru(bpy)_3]^{2+}$, which dissolves easily in water and which has no phototoxic effect, was used as the $O_2$-sensitive dye. The ratiometric sensing method was applied by introducing calcein as the $O_2$-insensitive dye, in order to overcome the disadvantages of intensity-based sensing. By performing calibration with an amperometric $O_2$ sensor, we could calculate the exact concentration of $O_2$ in the culture media. We applied this technique to measure the $O_2$ concentration around the cultured cells in the microchannel. As expected, the $O_2$ concentration gradually decreased as the cells moved farther away from the channel. This method is expected to be applicable to the investigation of hypoxia, which occurs commonly in scaffolds.
Tin oxide thin films were fabricated on glass substrates by the successive ionic layer adsorption and reaction (SILAR) method at room temperature and ambient pressure. Before measuring their properties, all samples were annealed at $500^{\circ}C$ for 2 h in air. Film thickness increased with the number of cycles; X-ray diffraction patterns for the annealed $SnO_2$ thin films indicated a $SnO_2$ single phase. Thickness of the $SnO_2$ films increased from 12 to 50 nm as the number of cycles increased from 20 to 60. Although the optical transmittance decreased with thickness, 50 nm $SnO_2$ thin films exhibited a high value of more than 85%. Regarding electronic properties, sheet resistance of the films decreased as thickness increased; however, the measured resistivity of the thin film was nearly constant with thickness ($3{\times}10^{-4}ohm/cm$). From Hall measurements, the 50 nm thickness $SnO_2$ thin film had the highest mobility of the samples ($8.6cm^2/(V{\cdot}s)$). In conclusion, optical and electronic properties of $SnO_2$ thin films could be controlled by adjusting the number of SILAR cycles.
We report the nitrogen monoxide (NO) gas sensing properties of p-type CuO-nanorod-based gas sensors. We synthesized the p-type CuO nanorods with breadth of about 30 nm and length of about 330 nm by a hydrothermal method using an as-deposited CuO seed layer prepared on a $Si/SiO_2$ substrate by the sputtering method. We fabricated polycrystalline CuO nanorod arrays at $80^{\circ}C$ under the hydrothermal condition of 1:1 morality ratio between copper nitrate trihydrate [$Cu(NO_2)_2{\cdot}3H_2O$] and hexamethylenetetramine ($C_6H_{12}N_4$). Structural characterizations revealed that we prepared the pure CuO nanorod array of a monoclinic crystalline structure without any obvious formation of secondary phase. It was found from the gas sensing measurements that the p-type CuO nanorod gas sensors exhibited a maximum sensitivity to NO gas in dry air at an operating temperature as low as $200^{\circ}C$. We also found that these CuO nanorod gas sensors showed reversible and reliable electrical response to NO gas at a range of operating temperatures. These results would indicate some potential applications of the p-type semiconductor CuO nanorods as promising sensing materials for gas sensors, including various types of p-n junction gas sensors.
A membrane gas sensor was developed for the measurement of ethanol concentration during acetic acid fermentation. The fermentation broth including ethanol was permeated through the silicone membrane by synthetic air as a carrier gas and was detected by a semiconductor gas sensor. The optimum conditions of membrane gas sensor were 20m1/min of flow rate and 0.5mm of membrane thickness. In acetic acid fermentation, an on-line measurement of ethanol concentration was conducted by the proposed membrane gas sensor and then the on-line sensor signal, was compared with the result of off-line analysis by gas chromatography. As a result, a correlated response over the range of $0∼70g/\ell$ was shown between membrane gas sensor and gas chromatography and this use of membrane gas sensor was experimentally ascertained for the monitoring and control of bioprocess like acetic acid fermentation.
C-axis oriented $YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-{\delta}}$ (YBCO) thin films were grown on $Al_2O_3$ (alumina and R-plane sapphire) substrates by a pulsed laser deposition method. The crystallinity of the $CeO_2$ buffer layer on sapphire substrate exhibit a strong dependence on the deposition temperature, resulting in the growth of a-axis orientation at $800^{\circ}C$. The superconducting properties of YBCO thin films on $Al_2O_3$ substrates showed strong dependence on both thickness and crystallinity of the $CeO_2$ buffer layer. Critical temperature of YBCO film on alumina substrate was ${\sim}83\;K$. In the case of R-plane sapphire substrate,
The effect of $CeO_2$ as a sintering additive on the microstructure and the piezoelectric property of yPb$(Sb_{0.5}Nb_{0.5})O_3$-(1-y)Pb$(Zr_{0.52}Ti_{0.48})O_3$ ($0{\leq}y{\leq}0.1$, PSN-PZT) for a hypersonic sound speaker (HSS) application was investigated. The samples were sintered at $1250^{\circ}C$ for 2 h. The crystal structure and surface morphology of the samples were examined using XRD and FE-SEM, respectively. Study on the influence of $CeO_2$ additives on the dielectric and piezoelectric properties indicated that the $CeO_2$-added PSN-PZT system had a high piezoelectric properties. The optimized results of ${\varepsilon}_r=1209$, $K_p$=52% $d_{33}$=351(pC/N) and $Q_m$=1230.16 were obtained at 0.4 wt.% $CeO_2$-added PSN-PZT.
In this study, LiDAR-detectable black materials are synthesized by coating and reduction of titanium dioxide onto plate-type natural mica, which evaluated practical LiDAR verification. In detail, black TiO2@Mica materials are fabricated by utilizing a sol-gel reaction to coat titanium dioxide onto natural mica, followed by reduction using sodium tetrahydridoborate. Subsequently, Black TiO2@Mica materials are dispersed in hydrophilic transparent varnish and sprayed onto the glass substrate to assess applicability as paints. As a result, Black TiO2@Mica-based paints exhibit true blackness (L*=12.1) and a higher NIR reflectance (30.2 R%). In addition, it was confirmed that as-synthesized Black TiO2@Mica materials are successfully recognized by a LiDAR sensor. This phenomenon is attributed to Fresnel's reflection law, in which light reflection occurs at the interface between natural mica and titanium dioxide with different refractive indices. In this regard, the findings of the study are expected to contribute to the potential utilization of LiDAR-detectable materials in various fields such as autonomous vehicles, robotics, and drones.

This study was intended to evaluate the feasibility of the vehicle detector using a coil sensor. For the evaluation, the research team built a test environment for the detector consisting of a oscillation circuit, data collecting circuit, data monitoring and saving circuit, etc. As the result of the frequency analysis of the detector from the test environment, it was verified for the detector using a coil sensor to generate stable frequencies. In addition, the ease of construction and management was tested by comparing the size of cutting areas, consumption of installation materials, and installation time for a traditional loop detector and the detector using a coil sensor. As a result, the installation of the detector using a coil sensor requires less size of cutting areas, consumption of installation materials, and installation time.

Nanoparticles of magnesium ferrite are used as a heterogeneous catalyst, humidity sensor, oxygen sensor and cure of local hyperthermia. These applications usually utilize the magnetic behavior of these nanoparticles. Moreover, magnetic properties of nanoferrites exhibit rather complex behavior compared to bulk ferrite. The magnetic properties of ferrites are complicated by spins at vortices, surface spins. Reports till date indicate strong dependency on the structural parameters, oxidation state of metal ions and their presence in octahedral and tetrahedral environment. Thus we have carried out investigation on magnesium ferrite nanoparticles in order to study coordination, oxidation state and structural distortion. For present work, magnesium ferrite nanoparticles were synthesized using nitrates of metal ions and citric acid. Fe L-edge spectra measured for these nanoparticles shows attributes of $Fe^{3+}$ in high spin state. Moreover O K-edge spectra for these nanoparticles exhibit spectral features that arises due to unoccupied states of O 2p character hybridized with metal ions. Mg K-edge spectra shows spectral features at 1304, 1307, 1311 and 1324 eV for nanoparticles obtained after annealing at 400, 500, 600, 800, 1000, and $1200^{\circ}C$. Apart from this, spectra for precursor and nanoparticles obtained at $300^{\circ}C$ exhibit a broad peak centered around 1305 eV. A shoulde rlike structure is present at 1301 eV in spectra for precursor. This feature does not appear after annealing. After annealing a small kink appear at ~1297 eV in Mg K-edge spectra for all nanoparticles. This indicates changes in local electronic structure during annealing of precursor. Observed behavior of change in local electronic structure will be discussed on the basis of existing theories.
