Increasing concerns over green farming technology, plant growth promoting rhizobacterium (PGRP) having growth promoting as well as plant disease suppressing properties was recently preferred to use for biological control of plant pathogens infecting plant. We measured the influence of the selected microbial consortium agents-a mixture of PGPR strains-, commercial bio-fungicide, and chemical pesticides on soil microbial community in red pepper field. The activities of soil enzyme such as dehydrogenase, urease, phosphatase, ${\beta}$-glucosidase, and cellulase were analyzed to investigate that of soil microbial community. We also measured plant length, main stem, stem diameter, number of branches and yields of red-pepper in order to observe the red pepper growth promotion. The results of measuring enzyme activities were dehydrogenase 3.5584 ${\mu}g$ TPF $g^{-1}h^{-1}$, urease 15.8689 ${\mu}g$$NH_4{^-}N$$g^{-1}h^{-1}$, phosphatase 0.5692 ${\mu}g$ PNP $g^{-1}h^{-1}$, ${\beta}$-glucosidase 2.4785 ${\mu}g$ PNP $g^{-1}h^{-1}$, and cellulase 86.1597 ${\mu}g$ glucose $g^{-1}h^{-1}$ in the soil treated with the microbial consortium agents, so it came out to be very active in the soil. Observing the growth of red-peppers, the main-stem length and the stem diameter were 6.1% and 8.1% higher in the soil treated with the selected microbial consortium agent than the chemical pesticides. After harvesting, yields were 7.3% higher in the soil treated with selected microbial consortium agents than the chemical pesticides. These results showed that microbial consortium agents contribute to increasing soil microbial diversity, growth promoting, and yield of red pepper.
The objectives of this study were to evaluate seasonal and interannual variations of water quality and nutrient input (N, P) in Junam Reservoir, a nesting waterbody of migratory birds, over 10 years during 1998$\sim$2007 along with dynamic relations of trophic parameters using empirical models. Concentrations of COD averaged 7.8 mg $L^{-1}$ during the study, while TN and TP were $1.4\;mg\;L^{-1}$ and $83{\mu}g\;L^{-1}$, respectively, indicating an eutrophic-hypereutrophic state. Values of monthly COD had strong positive relations (r=0.669, p<0.001) with conductivity, indicating that summer rainfall resulted in an ionic dilution of the reservoir water by rainwater and contributed better water quality. One-way ANOVA tests showed significant differences (F=$5.2{\sim}12.9$, p<0.05) in TN and TP between the before and after the bird migration. In other words, nutrient levels were greater in the absence of migratory birds than in the presence of the migratory birds, suggesting a no-effect on nutrient inputs by the birds. Also, one-way ANOVA indicated no significant differences (F=$0.37{\sim}0.48$, p>0.05) in $NO_{3^-}N$ and $NH_{3^-}N$ between the before and after the birds migration. Linear empirical models using trophic parameters showed that algal biomass as CHL, had significant low correlations with TN ($R^2$=0.143, p<0.001, n=119) and TP ($R^2$=0.192, p<0.001, n=119). These results suggest that influences of nutrients on the CHL were evident, but the effect was weak. This fact was supported by analysis of Trophic State Index Deviation (TSID). Over 70% in the observed values of "TSI (CHL)-TSI (SD)" and "TSI (CHL)-TSI (TP)" were less than zero, suggesting a light limitation on the CHL by inorganic suspended solids.
As unialgal cultures to examine the growth kinetics of an algal species, Microcystis aeruginosa was grown in chemostats with nitrogen and phosphorus limitation. The nutrient concentrations of $NH_4\;^+\;and\;PO_4\;^{3-}$ to limit the growth of M, aeruginosa were approximately 200 ${\mu}M$ and 7 ${\mu}M$, respectively. Cell size of the algae decreased towards the $NH_4$-nitrogen limitation under a constant dilution rate, while it increased in the $PO_4$-limitaion. The cell quota of nitrogen under nitrogen-limited conditions was 6.1 ${\mu}mol$ mg $C^{-1}$ and, under nitrogen sufficient conditions, ranged from 9.5 ${\mu}mol$ mg $C^{-1}$ to 12.4 ${\mu}mol$ mg $C^{-1}$. In addition to the cell quota, the half-saturation constants for nitrogen uptake ($K_s$) and the growth rate (${\mu}_m$) was 36 ${\sim}$ 61 ${\mu}M$ and 0.28 ${\sim}$ 0.35 ${\mu}mol$ cell ${\cdot}$$hr^{-1}$ to show high values in comparison with other algal species. As the limiting concentration, cell quota and uptake rate of M. aeruginosa were higher than those of any other species, the its nitrogen requirement would be great. In the other side, as the half saturation constant ($K_s$) for nitrogen uptake was higher, and the ratios ofmaximum uptake rate ($V_m$) and $K_s$ was relatively low, the species would have the low competitive ability in the low nitrogen concentration in the ambient water. However, the low concentration of nitrogen in the Nakdong River during the Microcystis outbreak would be the inevitable results of the algal blooms. In the lower Parts of the Nakdong River, the nutrient status was coupled with the growth kinetics of the blooming algae to have clear seasonal variations through a year.
A feather-degrading bacterium Elizabethkingia meningoseptica CS2-1 was isolated from compost in a chicken farm. Cultured on a basal medium containing 2% chicken feather, the bacterium showed 729.7 ${\mu}mol/mL$ of amino acid. Optimal culture conditions for feather degradation by E. meningoseptica CS2-1 were $25^{\circ}C$, pH 7.5, and 180 rpm. The optimal pH and temperature for protease activity were 8.0 and $40^{\circ}C$, respectively. The composition of an optimal medium for amino acid production was 0.05% NH4Cl, 0.05% NaCl, 0.03% $K_2HPO_4$, 0.03% $KH_2PO_4$, 0.01% $MgCl_2{\cdot}6H_2O$, 0.1% urea, and 2% chicken feather. Characteristics of amino acids extracted from the optimal medium under the optimal culture conditions of E. meningoseptica CS2-1 were analyzed. The total amino acid content of strain CS2-1 was 1063 ${\mu}mol/mL$, which was 46% higher compared to the basal condition (729.7 ${\mu}mol/mL$). The essential amino acid content in the total amino acid was 315.9 ${\mu}mol/mL$, which was 44% higher than that of the basal condition. Major amino acids were proline (14%), aspartic acid (12%), glutamic acid (11%), serine (10%), alanine (10%), glycine (9%), and tyrosine (7%) by strain CS2-1. These results suggest that strain CS2-1 can be used as a potential microbial resource for the production of amino acid using chicken feathers.
A column test was conducted to find out the effect of application of slaked lime, calcium sulfate, calcium superphosphate, and phosphoric acid on the solubility of lead in soil. The soil was adjusted to 310.8 ppm concentration of Pb and applied with amounts of calcium equivalent to 600, 1000, 2000 ppm as slaked lime; sulfate 144, 288, 432 ppm as calcium sulfate; phosphate 95, 190, 285 ppm as calcium superphosphate and phosphoric acid, respectively. The results obtained are as follows: 1. The increasing application of improvement agents reduced the amounts of water soluble Pb in soil. Phosphoric acid was the most effect among to the treatments. 2. The slaked lime treatment has the highest pH of soil and the lowest at the phosphoric acid one. The soil Eh has a reverse tendency the soil pH. 3. Water soluble Ca, $PO_4$ and $SO_4$ contents increased with increasing application amounts of improvement agents in soil. 4. $1N-NH_4$ OAC soluble Pb content in soil was a decreasing tendency in the order of calcium superphosphate, phosphoric acid, slaked lime, calcium sulfate and control after experiment.

Nano-sized titanium oxide and zirconium oxide powders were synthesized by hydrolysis of titanium isopropoxide $[Ti(OC_3H7)_4]$ and zirconium tetrachloride ($ZrC1_4$) via a sol-gel technique. Lead titanate powders were prepared by mixing $TiO_2$ precursors with PbO slurry made with dilute $NH_4OH$. Lead zirconate titanate powders were, then, synthesized by mixing $PbTiO_3$ with $ZrO_2$ powders. The goal of this research was to obtain the $PbZrTiO_3(PZT)$ powders and sintering these powders at low temperature. The $PbTiO_3$ and PZT powders after firing were analyzed by X-ray diffraction(XRD) and transmission electron microscopy(TEM) was utilized to observe the shape and size of the synthesized nano-particles. In the XRD pattern, the well-crystallized PZT phase could be obtained in consequence of firing at $900^{\circ}C$. SEM micrographs also showed that grains of PZT were relatively well grown with the size of the range of $2{\~}4{\mu}m$. The densified perovskite structure of $PbZrTiO_3$ could be obtained by sintering at temperature as low as $900^{\circ}C$. Characterization of the samples showed improved piezoelectric properties.

3-Hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-CoA reductase (HMGR) catalyzes the conversion of HMG-CoA to mevalonic acid, the first intermediate of isoprenoid biosynthetic pathway in plants. The enzyme was solubilized with 0.4% Brij (polyoxyethylene ether) W-1 from a microsomal fraction of etiolated rice seedlings (Oryza sativa L.) in which its maximal activity was observed on the fourth day after germination. HMGR was purified to near homogeneity by employing $(NH_4)_2SO_4$ fractionation plus chromatographic procedures including DEAE-Sephadex A-50 and HMG-CoA-hexane-agarose affinity column. The size of the purified enzyme was estimated to be 55 kDa when judged by SDS-PAGE analysis with silver staining method. The apparent $K_m$ and $V_{max}$ values for HMG-CoA were determined to be $180\;{\mu}M$ and 107 pmol/min/mg, and those for NADPH were $810\;{\mu}M$ and 32.1 pmol/min/mg, respectively.

The alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) callus was induced from seeds on SH medium contained $3\;mg/{\ell}$ of 2,4-D. Several regenerated alfalfa plants and many shoots were obtained by procedure of Kim et al. (1999); 1) incubation for 28~30 days on SH medium added $5\;mg/{\ell}$ of NAA and $2\;mg/{\ell}$ of Kinetin, 2) incubation for 3~5 days on SH medium added $11\;mg/{\ell}$ of 2,4-D and $1\;mg/{\ell}$ of kinetin. 3) incubation for 21~25 days on SH medium added $1.6\;g/{\ell}$ of ammonium sulfate and $5.75\;g/{\ell}$ of proline. To increase of root induction ratio on plant regeneration process of alfalfa, root induction ratio was examined on 8 kinds of medium, containing different amount of hormone and SH salt. Root induction ratio was higher on SH medium contained IBA than SH basal medium. In case 1.5 mg of IBA was added in SH medium, root induction ratio was the highest to 56.0% in this study. On the other hand, root induction ratio was higher on SH medium diminished SH salt amount to half volume and addition of IBA makes high root induction ratio, too. Thus, we conclude that the medium for root induction of alfalfa may be added $1.5\;mg/{\ell}$ of IBA and diminished SH salt amount to half volume.
For elucidating the correlation between the eubacterial community structure and environmental parameters in Nammae Reservoir located in Kyungsan, Kyungbuk, the bacterial community structure and their structure affecting environmental parameters were analyzed using Fluorescent In Situ Hybridization (FISH) monthly over year. $\alpha$ . $\beta$ . $\gamma$-subclasses of Proteobacteria and Cytophaga-Flavobacterium (CF) group known as dominant bacterial group in freshwater were detected in 3 stations over year. The ratio of each subclass to total bacteria was determined; $\alpha$.$\beta$ . $\gamma$-subclasses and CF group varied in the range of 4.0~29.2%, 1.7~25.8%, 1.8~12.8%, 4.9~36.3%, respectively and there was no substantial differences between stations. In terms of the correlation between each group specific bacteria and environmental parameters such as temperature, SS, pH, DOC, NH$_4$-N, NO$_3$-N, PO$_4$-P, standing crops of algae, the results were as follows: 1) total bacterial numbers correlated positively with temperature, SS and DOC, 2) Eubacteria positively with DOC and Chl-$\alpha$, 3)${\gamma}$-subclass positively with DOC, and 4) CF group positively with standing crops of chlorophyceae, 5) whereas $\beta$-subclass bacteria correlated negatively with standing crop of cyanobacteria and that of total algae.

In this study, hourly measurements of $PM_{2.5}$ and its major chemical constituents such as organic and elemental carbon (OC and EC), and ionic species were made between January 15 and February 10, 2018 at the air pollution intensive monitering station in Gwangju. In addition, 24-hr integrated $PM_{2.5}$ samples were collected at the same site and analyzed for OC, EC, water-soluble OC (WSOC), humic-like substance (HULIS), and ionic species. Over the whole study period, the organic aerosols (=$1.6{\times}OC$) and $NO_3{^-}$ concentrations contributed 26.6% and 21.0% to $PM_{2.5}$, respectively. OC and EC concentrations were mainly attributed to traffic emissions with some contribution from biomass burning emissions. Moreover, strong correlations of OC with WSOC, HULIS, and $NO_3{^-}$ suggest that some of the organic aerosols were likely formed through atmospheric oxidation processes of hydrocarbon compounds from traffic emissions. For the period between January 18 and 22 when $PM_{2.5}$ pollution episode occurred, concentrations of three secondary ionic species ($=SO{_4}^{2-}+NO_3{^-}+NH_4{^+}$) and organic matter contributed on average 50.8 and 20.1% of $PM_{2.5}$, respectively, with the highest contribution from $NO_3{^-}$. Synoptic charts, air mass backward trajectories, and local meteorological conditions supported that high $PM_{2.5}$ pollution was resulted from long-range transport of haze particles lingering over northeastern China, accumulation of local emissions, and local production of secondary aerosols. During the $PM_{2.5}$ pollution episode, enhanced $SO{_4}^{2-}$ was more due to the long-range transport of aerosol particles from China rather than local secondary production from $SO_2$. Increasing rate in $NO_3{^-}$ was substantially greater than $NO_2$ and $SO{_4}^{2-}$ increasing rates, suggesting that the increased concentration of $NO_3{^-}$ during the pollution episode was attributed to enhanced formation of local $NO_3{^-}$ through heterogenous reactions of $NO_2$, rather than impact by long-range transportation from China.
