  • We show that if M is a $II_1$-factor and a countable discrete group G acts outerly on M then Jones' index $[M:M^G]$ of a pair of $II_1^-factors is equal to the order $\mid$G$\mid$ of G. It is also shown that for a subgroup H of G Jones' index $[M^H:M^G]$ is equal to the group index [G:H] under certain conditions.

  • In this study, in order to maximize the accuracy and efficiency of the existing interpolation method fractal methods are applied. Developed FEDISA model revives the irregularity of the real topography with only a few information about base topography, which can produce almost complete geographic information. Moreover, as a tool for examining the adaptability and efficiency of the model, index of slope range $I_{SR}$, index of surface $I_{SA}$, and index of volume $I_V$ were developed. The model area is respectively set to $75m{\times}75m$, $150m{\times}150m$, $300m{\times}300m$, $600m{\times}600m$, and $1,200m{\times}1,200m$, and then the data obtained by combining the existing interpolation methods and FEDISA model were compared with real measurements. The result of the study showed the adaptability and efficiency of FEDISA model in topography restoration.

  • This study was motivated by the purpose of improving the O-Index, currently used to quantify water tasty. The authors first develop the M-Index after normalizing Ca, K, and $SiO_{2}$ concentrations in the spring water, in that the concentrations are subject to their log-normal distributions. The M-Index is then compared with the O-Index based on the results of sensory tests, revealing that sensory tests are correlated with the M-Index much more than the O-Index. Furthermore, the developed index is applied to evaluate water sampled from 53 springs in Korea. It is concluded that water, sampled from five most famous springs, has high values in M-Index. In addition, water, collected from springs that are relatively accessible, contains low values, and thus is expected not to tasty good.

  • The large scaled field test by prefabricated vertical drains was performed to evaluate the superiority of vertical discharge capacity for drain materials through compare and analyze the time-settlement behavior with drain spacing and the compression index and consolidation coefficient obtained by laboratory experiments and field monitoring system 1. The relation of measurement settlement( $S_{m}$) versus design settlement( $S_{t}$) and measurement consolidation ratio( $U_{m}$) versus design consolidation ratio( $U_{t}$) were shown $S_{m}$=(1.0~l.1) $S_{t}$, $U_{m}$=(1.13~l.17) $U_{t}$, at 1.0m drain spacing and $S_{m}$=(0.7~0.8) $S_{t}$, $U_{m}$=(0.92~0.99) $U_{t}$ at 1.5m drain spacing, respectively. 2. The relation of field compression index( $C_{cfield}$) and virgin compression index( $V_{cclab}$) was shown $C_{cfield}$=(1.0~1.2) $V_{cclab}$, But it was nearly same value when considered the error with determination method of virgin compression index and prediction method of total settlement. 3. field consolidation coefficient was larger than laboratory consolidation coefficient, and the consolidation coefficient ratio( $C_{h}$/ $C_{v}$) were $C_{h}$=(2.4 ~ 3.0) $C_{v}$. $C_{h}$=(3.5 ~ 4.3) $C_{v}$ at 1.0m and 1.5m drain spacing and increased with increasing of drain spacingngasing of drain spacingng spacingng

  • The present study was undertaken to evaluate gingivitis and oral hygiene status of the crowned teeth comparing to controlled teeth by use of P. M. A. Index and Oral Hygiene. Index in children from $3\frac{1}{2}$ to $7\frac{1}{2}$ years old. The results were as followings. 1. In P. M. A. Index, satisfactory crowned teeth (1.53) showed statistically significant increment compare to the controlled teeth (0.68) (P<0.01). 2. In P. M. A. Index, unsatisfactory crowned teeth (2.22) showed statistically significant increment compare to the controlled teeth (0.70) (P<0 01). 3. In Oral Hygiene Index, satisfactory crowned teeth (1.49) showed statistically nonsignificant increment compare to the controlled teeth (1.27). 4. In Oral Hygiene Index, unsatisfactory crowned teeth (1.62) showed statistically nonsignicant increment compare to the controlled (1.39) 5. The severity of gingivitis following Oral Hygiene Index showed higher in crowed teeth than the controlled teeth. 6. The severity of giginvitis showed the highest in the unsatisfactory crowned teeth, the next was the satisfactory crowned teeth, and the controlled teeth showed the lowest.

  • We design the single mode dispersion-compensating fibers (DCF) which may be necessary for upgrading the previously installed 1.31 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ optical communication system to the 1.55 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ system. To obtain the optimum index profile that allows large negative dispersion at 1.55 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, parabolic-index, double-clad fibers are analyzed by applying the 1-D FEM to the scalar wave equation of optical fibers. In constideration of macro-bending loss, the fibers are designed so that the cutoff wavelength of the $LP_{01}$ mode is greateer than 1.80 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. The computer simulations show that the lower bound of the dispersion at 1.55 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ is limited to about -120 ps/nm . km for the fiber index profiles satisfying the $LP_{01}$'s cutoff condition.

  • We investigated the macrozoobenthos at major two harbors of Korea in July and August 2007 in order to check the changes in the species composition due to the invasive species and to make a species inventory at each harbor system. At the Incheon Harbor, a total of 88 species was sampled with abundance of 3,212 ind. m$^{-2}$ and biomass of 239 g m$^{-2}$. The most dominant species was Tharyx sp. belong to polychaete taxa, followed by Chaetozone setosa in the harbor area. The dominant species of outer area were Musculus senhousia and Sternaspis scutata. The diversity index ranged between 0.9$\sim$2.4, and evenness index between 0.3$\sim$0.9, and richness index between 1.8$\sim$3.9. Benthic pollution index ranged between 16$\sim$74. The highest benthic pollution index was at station 4. On the other hand the lowest value was at station 6, where a large amount of M. senhousia belong to mollusca occurred. At the Busan Harbor, a total of 89 species was sampled with density of 1,845 ind. m$^{-2}$ and biomass of 133.6 g m$^{-2}$ in August 2007. The most dominant species was Tharyx sp., followed by M. japonica and Cirratulus cirrata within harbor area. M. japonica was dominant species in the outer area. The diversity index ranged between 0.7$\sim$2.2, evenness index between 0.3$\sim$1.0, and richness index between 1.1$\sim$4.1. Benthic pollution index ranged between 31$\sim$90. The lowest benthic pollution index was found at site 2 within harbor area.
