Exploration of Virulence Markers and Genes of Listeria monocytogenes Isolated from Animal Products (축산물유래 Listeria monocytogenes의 virulence marker 및 gene 조사)

  • To investigate the epidemiological characteristics of 68 Listeria monocytogenes isolates, including 11 reference strains and 57 isolates from imported US beef, domestic meats(beef, pork, chicken meat), raw milk, and milk plants. L. monocytogenes was to evaluate the production of virulence proteins, such as hemolysin(LLO) and lecithinase(LCP), the adsorption of Congo red(CRA), and to detect virulence genes using the polymerase chain reaction(PCR). In the study of virulence protein production, 68(100%), 62(91.2%), and 54(79.4%) of the 68 L. monocytogenes strains were positive for LLO production, the LCP test, and the CRA test, respectively, while strains of other species, such as L. innocua, L. gray, L. murrayi, and L. welshimeri, were not. There were no significant differences between L. monocytogenes serotypes and the ability to produce LLO or LCP. L. monocytogenesstrains had very high hemolytic titers(2 to 16 fold), while the other Listeria species, other than L. ivanovii and L. seeligeri, did not. The hemolysin activities of L. monocytogenes, L. ivanovii, and L. seeligeri usually exceeded 1.0 HU/mg, while those of other Listeria spp. were less than 0.04 HU/mg. In the PCR assay, all of the L. monocytogenes strains contained the hlyA, plcA, plcB, inlA, and inlB virulence genes and produced a product of the expected size. In the PCR of the actA gene, the expected 385-bp product was seen in 39(57.4%) L. monocytogenesstrains, while an unexpected 268-bp product was seen in 29(42.6%) strains. Most L. monocytogenes strains isolated from Hanwoo beef produced the 385-bp actA gene product, while strains of imported US beef usually produced the 268-bp actA gene product. By contrast, no virulence gene products were amplified in the other Listeria spp.

Characteristics of a Novel Acinetobacter sp. and Its Kinetics in Hexavalent Chromium Bioreduction

  • Cr-B2, a Gram-negative hexavalent chromium [Cr(VI)] reducing bacteria, was isolated from the aerator water of an activated sludge process in the wastewater treatment facility of a dye and pigment based chemical industry. Cr-B2 exhibited a resistance for 1,100 mg/l Cr(VI) and, similarly, resistance against other heavy metal ions such as $Ni^{2+}$ (800 mg/l), $Cu^{2+}$ (600 mg/l), $Pb^{2+}$ (1,100 mg/l), $Cd^{2+}$ (350 mg/l), $ZN^{2+}$ (700 mg/l), and $Fe^{3+}$ (1,000 mg/l), and against selected antibiotics. Cr-B2 was observed to efficiently reduce 200 mg/l Cr(VI) completely in both nutrient and LB media, and could convert Cr(VI) to Cr(III) aerobically. Cr(VI) reduction kinetics followed allosteric enzyme kinetics. The $K_m$ values were found to be 43.11 mg/l for nutrient media and 38.05 mg/l for LB media. $V_{max}$ values of 13.17 mg/l/h and 12.53 mg/l/h were obtained for nutrient media and LB media, respectively, and the cooperativity coefficients (n) were found to be 8.47 and 3.49, respectively, indicating positive cooperativity in both cases. SEM analysis showed the formation of wrinkles and depressions in the cells when exposed to 800 mg/l Cr(VI) concentration. The organism was seen to exhibit pleomorphic behavior. Cr-B2 was identified on the basis of morphological, biochemical, and partial 16S rRNA gene sequencing chracterizations and found to be Acinetobacter sp.

  • I performed the research about the drinking water treatment by precoat filtration and activated carbon adsorption process in the D water treatment plant at Gwangju. D water treatment plant inlet water is supplied from Juam lake in Jeollanamdo. The results are as follows; 1. Element disk used in this experiment are R(pore size $10{\mu}m$), B(pore size $20{\mu}m$). And diatomaceous earth are A(cake pore size $3.5{\mu}m$), B(cake pore size $7{\mu}m$) and C(cake pore size $17{\mu}m$) 2. Filtrate of precoat filter during 30 min are B-C 10.2 > BB 5.7 > R-A 5.4 ($m^3/m^2$). 3. The water quality through B-C+AC and R-A+AC are DOC 1.76 mg/1, 1.288 m/l respectively. 4. total THMs produced by chlorination are $84.2{\mu}g/l$(B-C+AC), $66.11{\mu}g/l$ (R-A+AC), $97{\mu}g/l$ (rapid sand filtration water) respectively. 5. The R-A+AC and B-C+AC process can be substitute of CWTS.

The Ages of Fault Activities of the Ilkwang Fault in Southeastern Korea, Revealed by Classification of Geomorphic Surfaces and Trench Survey

  • The Ilkwang Fault is NNE-striking, elongated 40 Km between Ulsan and Haendae-ku, Busan in southeastem part of the Korean Peninsula(Kim, D.H. et al., 1989; Kim, J.S. et al., 2003). This paper is mainly concemed about the ages of the fault activities especially in the Quatemary, infered from classification of geomorphic surface and trench excavation for the construction of Singori nuclear power plant. The geomorphi surfaces are classified into the Beach and the Alluvial plain, the 10 m a.s.l. Marine terrace, the 20 m a.s.l. Marine terrace, the Reworked surface of 45 m a.s.l. Marine terrace and the Low relief erosional surface, from lower to higher altitude. The Beach and the Alluvial plain are elongated to the Holocene terrace(ist terrace, choi, 2003). The 10 m a.s.l. Marine terrace is correlated to 2nd terrace (MIS 5em 125 Ka. y. B.P., Choi, 1998). The 45 m a.s.l. Marine terace is correlated to the Lower marine terrace (MIS 7,220 Ka. y. B.P., Choi, 2003 or MIS 9,320 y. B.P.) to the Gwanganri terrace(Penultimate interglacial age, 200-200 Ka. Y. B.P., Oh, 1981). The Low relief erosional surface is distributed coastal side, the Reworked surface of 45 m a.s.l. Marine terrace inland side by the Ilkwang Fault Line as the boundary line. But the former is above 10 m higher in relative height than the latter. The 20 m a.s.l. Marine terrace on the elongation line of the Ilkwang Fault reveals no dislocation. A site was trenched on the straight contract line with $N30^{\circ}$ E-striking between the 10 m a.s.l. Marine terrace and the 20 m a.s.l. Marine terrace. Fault line or dislocation was not observable in the trench excavation. Accordingly, the straight contact line is inferred as the ancient shoreline of the 10 m a.s.l. Marine terrace. The Ages of the Fault activities are inferred after the formation of the Ichonri Formation - before the formation of the 45 m a.s.l. Marine terrace (220 Ka. y. B.P. or 320 Ka. y. B.P.). The Low relief erosional surface was an island above the sea-level during the formation of the 45 m a.s.l. Marine terrace in the paleogeography.

  • The nucleoside analogue, L-FMAUS was synthesized from L-FMAU which has been shown to have significant antiviral acitivity against hepatitis B virus (HBV). The anti-HBV activity and toxicity of the L-FMAUS were examined by a cell culture system using a hepatitis B virus (HBV) producing cell line, HepG2 2.2.15. L-FMAUS was assayed for the inhibition of HBV multiplication by measurement of HBV DNA and surface antigen (HBsAg) levels in the extracellular medium of HepG2 2.2.15 cells after an 8-day treatment.   • The generating functions of the divisor function σs(n) = Σ0<d|n ds are quasimodular forms. In this paper, we find the basis of the space of quasimodular forms of weight 6 on Γ0(10) consisting of Eisenstein series and η-quotients. Then we evaluate the convolution sum Σak+bl+cm=n σ(k)σ(l)σ(m) with lcm(a, b, c) = 10 and Σal+bm=n lσ(l)σ(m) and Σal+bm=n σ3(l)σ(m) with lcm(a, b) = 10.

  • This paper describes a fuzzy steering controller for an autonomous mobile robot with MR sensor. Using the magnetic field($B_{x}$, $B_{y}$, $B_{z}$) obtained from the MR sensor, we designed fuzzy controller for driving on the road center. Fuzzy rule base was built to magnetic field($B_{x}$, $B_{y}$, $B_{z}$). To develop an autonomous mobile robot simulation program, we have done modeling MR sensor, dynamic model of mobile robot and coordinate transformation. A computer simulation of the robot (including mobile robot dynamics and steering) was used to verify the steering performance of the mobile robot controller using the fuzzy logic. Good results were obtained by computer simulation. So, we confirmed the robustness of the proposed fuzzy controller by computer simulation. Also, we know that proposed control algorithm was applied to real autonomous mobile robot.

Factors influencing health-related quality of life in older adult women with sarcopenia: analysis of the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2019

  • Purpose: This study aimed to identify factors influencing the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of older adult women with sarcopenia. Methods: The study was secondary data analysis using data from the 2019 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. The final sample consisted of 142 women aged 60 years and older with sarcopenia and were selected from 8,110 women. The participants was analyzed using complex descriptive statistics, independent t-test, and regression. Results: In terms of HRQoL, three general characteristics were found to be influential, with an explanatory power of 56.0%: difficulty climbing stairs, difficulty working, and perceived health status. Having no or mild difficulty when climbing stairs (B=.20, p=.001; B=.21, p<.001) and no or mild difficulty when working (B=.25, p=. 002; B=.208, p=.013) had a significant effect on HRQoL compared to severe difficulty. Having good or ordinary perceived health status had a significant effect on the HRQoL (B=.11, p<.001; B=.09, p<.001). Conclusion: Based on study findings that the HRQoL of older adult women with sarcopenia were influenced by difficulty climbing stairs and working, as well as good perceived health status, healthcare providers should assist elderly women to maintain physical activities in their daily lives.

  • We establish appropriate $L^p$ estimates for a class of maximal operators $S_{\Omega}^{(\gamma)}$ on the product space $R^n\;\times\;R^m\;when\;\Omega$ lacks regularity and $1\;\le\;\gamma\;\le\;2.\;Also,\;when\;\gamma\;=\;2$, we prove the $L^p\;(2\;{\le}\;P\;<\;\infty)\;boundedness\;of\;S_{\Omega}^{(\gamma)}\;whenever\;\Omega$ is a function in a certain block space $B_q^{(0,0)}(S^{n-1}\;\times\;S^{m-1})$ (for some q > 1). Moreover, we show that the condition $\Omega\;{\in}\;B_q^{(0,0)}(S^{n-1}\;\times\;S^{m-1})$ is nearly optimal in the sense that the operator $S_{\Omega}^{(2)}$ may fail to be bounded on $L^2$ if the condition $\Omega\;{\in}\;B_q^{(0,0)}(S^{n-1}\;\times\;S^{m-1})$ is replaced by the weaker conditions $\Omega\;{\in}\;B_q^{(0,\varepsilon)}(S^{n-1}\;\times\;S^{m-1})\;for\;any\;-1\;<\;\varepsilon\;<\;0.$

  • In this paper, weighted Bloch spaces $\mathcal{B}_q$ are considered on the open unit ball in $\mathbb{C}^n$. In this paper, we will show that every Bloch function in $B_q$ induces a bounded linear functional on $L^1_a(\mathcal{B})$.
