  • This study estimated the correlation between surface area/weight ratios and pesticide residues in two varieties of tomato, mini tomato and tomato. The ratios of surface area/weight of mini tomato and tomato were $2.15cm^2g^{-1}$ and $1.00cm^2g^{-1}$ respectively. Pesticide residues were measured with four kinds of pesticide, chlorothalonil WP, chlorothalonil SC, oxadixyl WP, thiophanate-methyl WP. Ie residue amount of mini tomato was $1.4\sim2.4$ times higher than those in tomato regardless of the application date and frequency. The ratios of surface area/weight on tomato varieties played a key role for determining pesticide residue.

  • A Cellular embedding of a graph G into an orientable surface S can be considered as a cellular decomposition of S into 0-cells, 1-cells and 2-cells and vise versa, in which 0-cells and 1-cells form a graph G and this decomposition of S is called a map in S with underlying graph G. For a map M with underlying graph G, we define a natural rotation on the line graph of the graph G and we introduce the line map for M. we find that genus of the supporting surface of the line map for a map and we give a characterization for the line map to be embedded in the sphere. Moreover we show that the line map for any life of a map M is map-isomorphic to a lift of the line map for M.

  • This study aimed to optimize medium composition and culture conditions for enhancing the biomass of Lactobacillus plantarum 200655 using statistical methods. The one-factor-at-a-time (OFAT) method was used to screen the six carbon sources (glucose, sucrose, maltose, fructose, lactose, and galactose) and six nitrogen sources (peptone, tryptone, soytone, yeast extract, beef extract, and malt extract). Based on the OFAT results, six factors were selected for the Plackett-Burman design (PBD) to evaluate whether the variables had significant effects on the biomass. Maltose, yeast extract, and soytone were assessed as critical factors and therefore applied to response surface methodology (RSM). The optimal medium composition by RSM was composed of 31.29 g/l maltose, 30.27 g/l yeast extract, 39.43 g/l soytone, 5 g/l sodium acetate, 2 g/l K2HPO4, 1 g/l Tween 80, 0.1 g/l MgSO4·7H2O, and 0.05 g/l MnSO4·H2O, and the maximum biomass was predicted to be 3.951 g/l. Under the optimized medium, the biomass of L. plantarum 200655 was 3.845 g/l, which was similar to the predicted value and 1.58-fold higher than that of the unoptimized medium (2.429 g/l). Furthermore, the biomass increased to 4.505 g/l under optimized cultivation conditions. For lab-scale bioreactor validation, batch fermentation was conducted with a 5-L bioreactor containing 3.5 L of optimized medium. As a result, the highest yield of biomass (5.866 g/l) was obtained after 18 h of incubation at 30℃, pH 6.5, and 200 rpm. In conclusion, mass production by L. plantarum 200655 could be enhanced to obtain higher yields than that in MRS medium

  • The consolidants have been widely used for the consolidation of decaying heritage stone surfaces. In this study, X-ray diffraction analysis, polarized and stereo-microscope and scanning electron microscope were used to study the surface characterization of granite, sandstone and marble, and to assess the efficiency and the effects of the developed condolidants in the field. The developed consolidants used in this experiment are 100%1T1G and 3%40nm/97%1T1G. The effects of consolidants are 3%40nm/97%1T1G${\gg}$100%1T1G in granite, 3%40nm/97%1T1G>100%1T1G in sandstone, and 3%40nm/97% 1T1G=100%1T1G in marble. The characteristics of rock surface when treated with consolidants show different result according to consolidantes type. This result of treating with consolidant can be used for the conservation of an decaying heritage stone.

  • This experiment was performed to study the effect of $PGE_2$ on the bone resorption at the tooth movement by orthodontic force. The experimental animals were the Sprague-Dawley strain rats. The orthodontic force was applied by the insertion of separating clamp made of 0.014' (0.356mm) wire to the interproximal site between the 2nd and the 3rd upper right molars. In experiment I, $0.2{\mu}g,\;0.4{\mu}g,\;0.8{\mu}g,\;and\;1.0{\mu}g\;PGE_2$ were locally injected at the submucosa near the 2nd molar of the maxilla each. The effect was detected by the count of the number of osteoclasts appeared at the compressed surface of interradicular bone. In experiment II, 1.0 mg/kg indomethacin (a specificc inhibitor of prostaglandin synthetas.) was subcutaneously injected. The effect was examined by the count of the number of cateoclasts appeared at the compressed surface of interradicular bone. The obtained results were follows; 1. The number of osteoclasts on the compressed surface of the interradicular bone increased in proportion to the increased dosage of $PGE_2$ administered. The number of osteoclasts increased significantly at the administration of $0.8{\mu}g\;and\;1.0{\mu}g\;PGE_2$ in contrast to the control (P<0.05). 2. The administration of 1.0 mg/kg indomethacin decreased the number of osteoclasts at the compressed bony surface significantly (P<0.01).

  • We enhanced the sensitivity of surface plasmon resonance biosensor by the conversion of the real-time direct binding immunoassay into the sandwich immunoassay, in which colloidal gold particles coated with anti-mouse IgG was used. By the immobilization of anti-mouse IgG onto the carboxymethyl dextran surface of thin gold film, the direct binding of analyte(mouse IgG) onto the sensor chip, and the injection of colloidal gold particles coated with anti-mouse IgG, about 100 times of sensitivity enhancement was obtained. This result suggests that nanoparticles, which has a high refractive index, homogeneous ultrafine structure and capability of size control, would be applicable for the detection of very small quantity of biomaterial.
