Recent multifunctional two-dimensional material research has triggered huge interests in various modifications for substitution of atoms. Instead of novel metals used as the most popular catalysts, nonprecious transition metals are promising candidates for efficient oxidation-reduction transfers. The recent discovery of $Co@C_2N$ has an alternate possiblity as catalysts for the ORR(Oxygen Reduction Reaction) in DSSc(Dye Sensitized Solar Cell) and OER(Oxygen evolution cobalt oxides). Here we report spin-polarized DFT calculations of the structure doped Iron that is one of ferromagnetism atoms like Co to provide a basic desciption of the ferromagnetism of the elemental metals. The spin-density-funtional results present the most stable state energetically is when having pairwise up/down spin.
Thermochemical 2-step methane reforming, involving the reduction of metal oxide with methane to produce syn-gas and the oxidation of the reduced metal oxide with water to produce pure hydrogen, was investigated on ferrite-based metal oxide mediums and $WO_{3}/ZrO_{2}$. Thermochemical 2-step methane reforming were accomplished at 900 $^{\circ}C$(syn-gas production step) and 800 $^{\circ}C$(water-splitting step). In syn-gas production step, it appeared carbon deposition on metal oxides with increasing react ion time. Various mediums showed the different starting point of carbon deposition each other. To minimize the carbon deposition, the reaction time was controlled before the starting point of carbon deposition. As a result, $CO_{x}$ were not evolved in water-splitting step, Among the various metal oxides, $Mn-ferrite/ZrO_{2}$ showed high reactivity, proper $H_{2}/CO$ ratio, high selectivity of undesired $CO_{2}$ and high evolution of $H_{2}$.
This study was conducted to investigate the influence of various calcium salts on the accumulation of calcium in apple fruits when sprayed on whole tree. Differences in the total calcium contents of fruits were found between calcium sources and cultivars. In 'Tsugaru' , calcium nitrate, calcium chloride, and calcium carbonate were all effective but only calcium chloride and calcium carbonate appeared to be effective in 'Fuji' . Major parts of the applied calcium were accumulated in the feel and outer flesh. Ethylene evolution of fruit was retarded during storage with the increase of total calcium content in 'Fuji' fruit treated calcium acetate.
A diode laser sensor system based on absorption spectroscopy techniques has been developed to measure $CO_2$ concentration and temperature non-intrusively in high temperature combustion environments using a 2.0 ${\mu}m$ DFB(Distributed Feedback) laser. Two optics was fabricated in pig-tail fashion and all optical components were implemented in a single box. The evolution of measurement sensitivity was done using test cell by changing sweep frequency and $CO_2$ concentration. Gas temperature was determined from the ratio of integrated line strengths. Species concentration was determined from the integrated line intensity and the measured temperature. The result show that the system has 2% error in wide operation frequency range and accuracy of $CO_2$ concentration was about 3%. The system was applied to measure temperature and concentration in the combustion region of a premixed $CH_4$ +air triangular flame. The measurement results of gas temperature agreed well with thermocouple results. Many considerations were taken into account to reduce optical noise, etalon effect, beam steering and base line matching problem. The evaluations results and actual combustion measurement demonstrate the practical and applicability for in-situ and real time combustion monitoring in a practical system.
Effects of blue and red light on photorespiration in the leaf disks of pea were studied. The rate of total 14CO2 fixation was more or less higher under red light than blue light irradiation of the same quantum (94.8 $\mu$Em-2.S-1/mV). The release of 14CO2 by photorespiration was more stimulated under blue than red light. Among the photorespiratory intermediates, 14C was more incorporated ito serine under blue light than red light. However, 14C was more incorporated into glycine under red light than blue light. The incorporation of 14C into glycolate was very low under both light qualities, but higher under red light than blue light. Among the enzymes related to photorespiration, only glycolate oxidase was activated and/or synthesized by blue light irradiation. Moreover, more 14C2 was released from glycoate-1-14C under blue light than red light irradiation, but 14C2 release from glyoxylate-1-14C and glycine-1-14C showed no difference by the either light qualities. These results suggest that blue light is more effective in the photorespiratory CO2 evolution than red light. The reason is considered that glycolate is easily metabolized under blue light due to the stimulation of the glycolate oxidase activity.
Dissolved inorganic carbonates in ground water were quantitatively recovered by using gas evolution method. Gas evolution method was found to be less time-consuming, less susceptible to the contamination fromatmospheric $CO_2$ and little affected by the sulfate ions in comparison to the direct precipitation method. Extraction efficiency of nearly 99% could be achieved by gas evolution method in two hours using recirculated gas at a sweeping rate of 4 liter per minute. Samples for carbon isotope fractionation study were collected in three fractions with collection times. The evolution time for the first fraction was one hours, and then second and third fractions were collected at intervals of 30 minutes, respectively. A small portion of each fraction was analyzed to evaluate ${\delta}^{13}C$ values, which were measured to be -7.9‰, -3.0‰ and +0,4‰ for the each fraction. The result clearly indicated that gas evolution method generates isotopically lighter carbon at the beginning of the purging process and heavier isotopes at the end. However, this isotope fractionation effect could be neglected by the almost complete recovery of carbonates.
To prepare for the threat of a future epidemic in the post-COVID-19 era, research based on the one-health concept (i.e., the health of humans, animals, and the environment as "one") is essential. Cross-species infections are being identified as a result of the high infection rate and viral load of SARS-CoV-2 in humans. The possibility of transmission of SARS-CoV-2 from humans to mink has been determined. In addition, the transmission of SARS-CoV-2 from humans to cats through contact has been considered possible. The data so far show that livestock and poultry are less likely to be infected with SARS-CoV-2. However, if infections are established through a new mutation, the resulting diseases are expected to have enormous ripple effects on various fields, such as human food security, the economy, and trade. In addition, there are concerns about the endemic prospect of SARS-CoV-2 and the high accessibility of companion animals. This is because the evolution of the virus likely occurs in animal hosts. Once SARS-CoV-2 is established in other species, they might serve as intermediate hosts for the re-emergence of the virus in the human population. Thus, it is necessary to ensure a rapid response to future outbreaks by accumulating research data on the animal infection of SARS-CoV-2. These data can have implications for the development of animal models for vaccines and therapeutics against SARS-CoV-2. Therefore, in this study, epidemiological reviews were analyzed, and response strategies against SARS-CoV-2 infection in animals were presented using the One-health approach.
Continuous on-line monitoring of cell concentration and growth rate in aerobic batch fermentation process was carried out by analyzing the exhaust gas composition of tormentor with a quadrupole mass spectrometer. From the mass spectrometric analyses of major gaseous components, i.e. $N_2$, $O_2$, $CO_2$ and $H_2O$, and the material balance equations for oxygen and carbon dioxide, oxygen uptake rate (OUR) rind carbon dioxide evolution rate (CER) were instantaneously calculated using a computer (16-bit IBM PC-AT) interfaced to a quadrupole mass spectrometer. The calculated OUR and CER data were used for the estimation of cell concentration and growth rate of Candida utilis during batch culture. It was found that the cell concentration could be satisfactorily estimated from the data of OUR arid CER during the culture and this method could be successfully und for the continuous monitoring of cell growth and growth rate.

PEC (photoelectrochemical) water splitting for $O_2/H_2$ production is one of the promising but difficult way to utilize solar energy. Among photocatalytic materials for PEC water oxidation, $BiVO_4$ (Eg = 2.4 eV) has been recently intensively studied since it has various advantageous properties. But its maximum efficiency has not been realized owing to kinetic factors - slow water oxidation at surface & insufficient stability. These problems can be simultaneously solved by application of oxygen evolution catalyst (OEC) such as $CoO_x$, Co-Pi, $IrO_x$ etc. Herein we report the first successful application of $NiFeO_x$ OEC on $BiVO_4$, showing good performance compared to other effective OEC applied on $BiVO_4$ under basic conditions. The enhanced activity of OEC loaded $BiVO_4$ has been supported by the surface charge separation efficiency and electrochemical impedance studies.
To obtain the optimal condition of heat treatment of wear-resistant alloy, hardness and Charpy V-notch test have been performed with Co-based Stellite No.4, No.6 and Tribaloy 800 alloys, following by heat treatment at the various conditions. Heat treatment at $1250^{\circ}C$ for 1 hours caused the as-casted Tribaloy 800 with FCC crystal structure to transform to HCP structure and lamellar eutectic structure was disappeared, which did not influence on the hardness. Aging at $800^{\circ}C$ for 20 hours, following by $1250^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours heat treatment has enhanced hardness significantly, which is due to the precipitation of large amounts of Laves-phase. The hardness of Stellite alloys was increased by the aging at $800^{\circ}C$ to 5 hours, and was nearly constant by the aging over 5 hours. The toughness of Stellite alloys was a few influenced by the aging treatment.
