  • This study deals with the analytical and numerical solution for the combined wave reflection and diffraction near the impermeable rigid upright breakwater, subject to the excitation of a plane simple harmonic wave coming from infinity. Three cases are presented : a) the analytical solution near a thin semi-infinite breakwater, b) the analytical solution near the semi-infinite breakwaters of arbitrary edge angles, $30^{\circ},\;45^{\circ},\;and\;90^{\circ}$, c) the numerical solution near a detached thin breakwater the results are presented in amplification factor and wave height diagrams. Moreover, the amplification factors near the structure(2 wavelength before and behind the structure) are compared for the given cases. A finite difference technique for the numerical solution was applied to the integral equation obtained for the wave potential.

  • Glutathione (GSH) is a vital compound composed of glutamic acid, cysteine, and glycine, crucial for cellular functions including oxidative stress defense and detoxification. It has widespread applications in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and food industries due to its antioxidant properties and immune system support. Two primary methods for GSH synthesis are enzymatic and microbial fermentation. Enzymatic synthesis is efficient but costly, while microbial fermentation, particularly using yeast strains like Candida albicans, offers a cost-effective alternative. This study focuses on genetically modifying C. albicans mutants, specifically targeting glutathione reductase (GLR1) and gamma-glutamylcysteine synthetase (GCS1) genes, integral to GSH synthesis. By optimizing these mutants, the research aims to develop a model for efficient GSH production, potentially expanding its applications in the food industry.

  • Purpose When the patients takes myocardial perfusion SPECT using $^{201}Tl$, the operator gives the patients an injection of $^{201}Tl$. But the uniformity correction map in SPECT uses $^{99m}Tc$ uniformity correction map. Thus, we want to compare the image quality when it uses $^{99m}Tc$ uniformity correction map and when it uses $^{201}Tl$ uniformity correction map. Materials and Methods Phantom study is performed. We take the data by Asan medical center daily QC condition with flood phantom including $^{201}Tl$ 21.3 kBq/mL. After postprocessing with this data, we analyze CFOV integral uniformity(I.U) and differential uniformity(D.U). And we take the data with Jaszczak ECT Phantom by American college of radiology accreditation program instruction including $^{201}Tl$ 33.4 kBq/mL. After post processing with this data, we analyze spatial Resolution, Integral Uniformity(I.U), coefficient of variation(C.V) and Contrast with Interactive data language program. Results In the flood phantom test, when it uses $^{99m}Tc$ uniformity correction map, Flood I.U is 3.6% and D.U is 3.0%. When it uses $^{201}Tl$ uniformity correction map, Flood I.U is 3.8% and D.U is 2.1%. The flood I.U is worsen about 5%, but the D.U is improved about 30% inversely. In the Jaszczak ECT phantom test, when it uses $^{99m}Tc$ uniformity correction map, SPECT I.U, C.V and contrast is 13.99%, 4.89% and 0.69. When it uses $^{201}Tl$ uniformity correction map, SPECT I.U, C.V and contrast is 11.37%, 4.79% and 0.78. All of data are improved about 18%, 2%, 13% The spatial resolution was no significant changes. Conclusion In the flood phantom test, Flood I.U is worsen but Flood D.U is improved. Therefore, it's uncertain that an image quality is improved with flood phantom test. On the other hand, SPECT I.U, C.V, Contrast are improved about 18%, 2%, 13% in the Jaszczak ECT phantom test. This study has limitations that we can't take all variables into account and study with two phantoms. We need think about things that it has a good effect when doctors decipher the nuclear medicine image and it's possible to improve the image quality using the uniformity correction map of other radionuclides other than $^{99m}Tc$, $^{201}Tl$ when we make other nuclear medicine examinations.

  • It is required to analyze the controlled response of air temperature in greenhouse according to control techniques for precise control. In this study, a mathematical model was established for air heating of greenhouse with hot-water heating system The parameters of the model were decided by regression analysis using reference data measured at the greenhouse being heated In the simulation for the digital control of air temperature in the greenhouse, the mathematical model to evaluate the control performances was used. Tested control methods were ON-OFF contpol, p control, rl control and PID control. The mathematical model represented by inside air temperature ( T$_{i}$), hot-water temperature (T$_{w}$) in heating pipe and outside air temperature (T$_{o}$) was expressed as a following discrete time equation ; T$_{i}$($textsc{k}$+1)= 0.851.T$_{i}$($textsc{k}$)+0.055.T$_{w}$($textsc{k}$)+0.094.T$_{o}$($textsc{k}$) Control simulations for various control methods showed the settling time, the overshoot and the steady state nor as follows; infinite time, 3.5$0^{\circ}C$, 3.5$0^{\circ}C$ for ON-OFF control : 30min 2.37$^{\circ}C$, 0.51$^{\circ}C$ for P control; 21min, 0.0$0^{\circ}C$, 0.23$^{\circ}C$ for PI control; 18min 0.0$0^{\circ}C$, 0.23$^{\circ}C$ for PID control, respectively. PI and PID controls appeared to be optimal control methods. There was no effect of differential gain on the heating process but much effect of integral gain on it.on it.

  • Chinese Mathematics during the period of Jin (1115-1234) and Yuan (1271-1368) is an integral part of the high achievements of traditional mathematics during the Song (962-1279) and Yuan dynasties, which is another peak in the history of Chinese mathematics, following the footsteps of the high accomplishments during the Warring States period (475-221 BCE), the Western Han (206 BCE-24 ADE), Three Kingdoms (220-280 AD), Jin dynasty (265-420 AD), and Southern and Northern Dynasties (420-589 AD). During the Jin-Yuan period, Quanzhen Taoism was a dominating branch in Taoism. It offered certain political protection and religious comforts to many during troubled times; it also provided a relatively stable environment for intellectual development. Li Ye (1192-1279), Zhu Shijie (fl. late 13th C to early 14th C) and Zhao Youqin (fl. late 13th C to early 14th C), the major actors and contributors to the Jin-Yuan Mathematics achievements, were either heavily influenced by the philosophy of Quanzhen Taoism, or being its followers. In certain Taoist Classics, Li Ye read the records of the relations of a circle and nine right triangles which has been known as Dongyuan jiurong 洞渊九容 of Quanzhen Taoism. These relations made significant contributions in the study of the circles inscribed in a right triangle, the reasoning of which directly led to the birth of the Method of Celestial Elements (Tianyuan shu 天元术), which further developed into the Method of Two Elements (Eryuan shu ⼆元术), the Method of Three Elements (Sanyuan shu 三元术) and the Method of Four Elements (Siyuan shu 四元术).

  • Acute respiratory virus infectious diseases are a growing health problem, particularly among children and the elderly. Much effort has been made to develop probiotics that prevent influenza virus infections by enhancing innate immunity in the respiratory tract until vaccines are available. Lactobacillus plantarum GB-LP2, isolated from a traditional Korean fermented vegetable, has exhibited preventive effects on influenza virus infection in mice. To identify the molecular basis of this strain, we conducted a whole-genome assembly study. The single circular DNA chromosome of 3,284,304 bp was completely assembled and 3,250 protein-encoding genes were predicted. Evolutionarily accelerated genes related to the phenotypic trait of anti-infective activities for influenza virus were identified. These genes encode three integral membrane proteins, a teichoic acid export ATP-binding protein and a glucosamine - fructose-6-phosphate aminotransferase involved in host innate immunity, the nonspecific DNA-binding protein Dps, which protects bacteria from oxidative damage, and the response regulator of the three-component quorum-sensing regulatory system, which is related to the capacity of adhesion to the surface of the respiratory tract and competition with pathogens. This is the first study to identify the genetic backgrounds of the antiviral activity in L. plantarum strains. These findings provide insight into the anti-infective activities of L. plantarum and the development of preventive probiotics.

  • PID(Proportional, Integral, Derivative) controller is the most popular process controllers in nuclear power plants. The optimized parameter setting of the process controller contributes to the stable operation and the efficiency of the operating nuclear power plants. PID parameter setting is tuned when new process control systems are installed or current process control systems are changed. When the nuclear plant is shut down, a lot of PID tuning methods such as the Trial and Error method, Ultimate Oscillation method operation, Ziegler-Nichols method, frequency method are used to tune the PID values. But inadequate PID parameter setting can be the cause of the unstable process of the operating nuclear power plant. Therefore the results of PID parameter setting should be simulated, optimized and finally verified. This paper introduces the simulation method of PID tuning to optimize the PID parameter setting and confirms them of the actual PID controller in the operating nuclear power plants. The simulation method provides the accurate process modeling and optimized PID parameter setting of the multi-loop control process in particular.

  • The slip-weakening model developed by Ohnaka and Yamashita is extended over the breakdown zone by equating the scaling relationships for the breakdown zone and the whole rupture area. For the extension, the study uses the relationship between rupture velocity and radiation efficiency, which was derived in the theory of linear elastic fracture mechanics, and the definition of fmax given in the specific barrier model proposed by Papageorgiou and Aki. The results clearly show that the extended scaling relationship is governed by the ratio of rupture velocity to S wave velocity, and the velocity ratio can be determined by the ratio of characteristic frequencies of a Fourier amplitude spectrum, which are corner frequency, fc, and source-controlled cut-off frequency, fmax, or vice versa. The derived relationship is tested by using the characteristic frequencies extracted from previous studies of more than 130 shallow crustal events (focal depth less than 25 km, MW 3.0~7.5) that occurred in Japan. Under the assumption of a dynamic similarity, the rupture velocity estimated from fmax/fc and the modified integral timescale give quite similar scale-dependence of the rupture area to that given by Kanamori and Anderson. Also, the results for large earthquakes show good agreement to the values from a kinematic inversion in previous studies. The test results also indicate the unavailability of the spectral self-similarity proposed by Aki because of the scale-dependent rupture velocity and the rupture velocity-dependent fmax/fc; however, the results do support the local similarity asserted by Ohnaka. It is also remarkable that the relationship between the rupture velocity and fmax/fc is quite similar to Kolmogorov's hypothesis on a similarity in the theory of isotropic turbulence.

  • Objectives : The moxibustion is the method using the heat stimulation done by attached and burned a moxa on a healing point or acupuncture point with chemical stimulation of a resin made from burning them. The purpose of this study is to find the physical and thermal characteristics of moxibustion in order to standardize the moxa therapy method. Methods : In this study, the thermal changes were observed by means of a testo 845 device, which is an infra-red thermometer to measure the thermal changes. Results & Conclusions : 1. The thermal changes on the external surface of moxibustion did not depend on the weight of the moxa; the external surface temperature was about $500^{\circ}C$. 2. The central thermal changes depend on the weight of moxa; the central temperatures ranged from $500^{\circ}C$ to $700^{\circ}C$. 3. The burning duration of moxibustion depend on the weight of moxa but that of external surface temperature did not depend on the weight of moxa in high degree : about $400^{\circ}C$. 4. The integral values of central and external temperature curves were proportional to the weight of moxa; that is central temperature curves were higher than that of external.

  • In this paper, the scan characteristics of phased array antenna consisted of rectangular open-ended waveguide with a triangular grid are investigated. An infinite array structure is analyzed by numerically solving the integral equation for the electric field over the waveguide aperture using waveguide mode function and Floquet mode function. Next, SEP(Scan Element Pattern) and SI(Scan Impedance) characteristics are simulated by CST's MWS(Microwave Studio) and Ansoft's HFSS(High Frequency Structure Simulator) for the finite and infinite array structures. Also, validity of these approaches is verified by comparing the calculated and simulated results with the measured ones for an $8{\times}8$ subarray. Within 10.5 % fractional bandwidth in the X-band, the fabricated subarray showed the flat gain characteristic in the scan range of ${\pm}45^{\circ}C$ in the E-plane(azimuth) and ${\pm}20^{\circ}C$ in the H-plane(elevation), and also showed the return loss characteristic of less than -10 dB.
