  • Cyclic delay diversity (CDD) is a simple transmit diversity technique for an OFDM system using multiple transmit antennas. However, the performance of post-FFT estimation, i.e., integer frequency offset (lFO) is deteriorated by high frequency selectivity introduced by CDD. In this paper, the IFO estimation scheme is proposed for OFDM-based DRM+ system with CDD. Based on the pilot subset partitioning, the proposed IFO estimation scheme reduces the effect of performance degradation caused by frequency selectivity in OFDM systems with CDD . The simulation results show that the performance of the proposed IFO estimator is significantly improved when compared to that of the conventional IFO estimator.

  • Since the first arrival path may not be the strongest path of UWB(Ultra Wide Band) multipath channels, this makes ToA(Time-of-Arrival) estimation becomes a challengeable issue. Furthermore, because of ultra bandwidth of received signals, the compressed sensing theory is employed to reduce the complexity caused by very high Nyquist sampling rate in coherent UWB receivers. In this paper, we propose a ToA estimation scheme which provides precise estimation performance, while exploiting the benefits of compressed sensing-based UWB receivers. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme can outperform other low complexity schemes in a wide range of signal-to-noise ratios.

  • Frequency is an important operating parameter of a power system. Frequency of a power system remains constant if sum of all the loads plus losses equals total generation in the system. However, the frequency starts to decrease if total generation is less than the sum of loads and tosses. On the other hand, the system frequency increases if total generation exceeds the sum of loads and losses. Electric power systems sustain transient frequency swings whenever the balance between generation and load does not no longer hold. To cope with this Constraints, it requires an accurate and high speedy frequency deviation estimation technique and suitable adjustment to obtain the power system energy balance. The fundamental frequency component of 3-phase signal is first extracted by using an algorithm based on FIR(finite duration impulse response) filter, a phase angle of a voltage. The rate change of the phase angle is used for estimation and speed in its process. Also, to confirm the validity of the proposed algorithm, the simulation results obtained by using EMTP(electro magnetic transients program) are shown.

  • Motion compensated extrapolation (MCE) techniques show inferior performance compared to motion compensated interpolation techniques, since only past frames are used in MCE. MCE techniques are used for the reconstruction of corrupted frames, the up-conversion of frame rates and the generation of side information in the distributed video coding system. In this paper, the performance of various MCE techniques are evaluated and an efficient MCE technique using the forward and backward motion estimation is proposed. In the proposed technique, the present frame is extrapolated by averaging two frames which are generated by forward and backward motion estimation respectively. It is shown that the proposed method produces better PSNR results and less blocking phenomena than conventional methods.

  • There have been many studies on the direction-of-arrival(DOA) estimation algorithm using antenna arrays. Beamforming, Capon's method, maximum likelihood, MUSIC algorithms are the main algorithms for the DOA estimation. Recently, compressive sensing-based DOA estimation algorithm exploiting the sparsity of the incident signals has attracted much attention in the signal processing community. In this paper, the performance of the L1-SVD algorithm, which is based on fitting of the data matrix, is compared with that of the MUSIC algorithm.

  • In OFDM systems, mobile channel degrades the system performance seriously. Therefore, channel estimation technique is required to compensate for the degradation from the channel effects. However, conventional channel estimations in frequency domain induce ICI which is induced from Doppler frequency. In addition, a linear interpolation method causes inaccurate channel estimation. In order to minimize the effect of the interference and interpolation error, the proposed method combines LS method and Kalman filtering algorithm. Channel impulse response is adaptively tracked by Kalman filtering based on the information from LS estimator. Simulation results are presented to verify the performance of the proposed channel estimation over mobile channel environment. Simulation results show that the proposed method can effectively compensate for channel degradation.

  • This paper proposes a real-time approach on the rotational motion estimation and correction for the roll stabilization of the sight system. This method first estimates a rotation center by the least-mean square algorithm based on the motion vectors of some feature points. And, then, a rotation angle is searched for a best matching block between a reference block image and seccessive input images using MPC(maximum pixel count) matching criterion. Finally, motion correction is performed by the bilinear interpolation technique. Various computer simulations show that the estimation performance is good and the proposed algorithm is a real-time implementable one to the TMS320C6415(500MHz) DSP.

  • This study is applied to common induction motor, and vector control is realized by using an indirect type of induction motor which has a simple composition. In this study extended Kalman filter is used from control theoretical viewpoint, and primary resistance and secondary resistance which change according to the temperature of motor are simultaneously estimated. This paper aims to research an indirect vector control in which the secondary resistance obtained from this estimation is consistent with secondary flux. This estimation is made by on-line estimation, but on-line estimation is difficult because extended Kalman filter takes long time in computation time. So off-line estimation was made on the assumption that the variation of temperature in motor is slow temporally.

  • In this study, a new signal model suitable for UWB indoor environments with random angle spread is proposed to estimate the angle-of-arrivals(AOAs) of UWB cluster signals in an UWB wireless communication. A subspace based estimation technique adopted for this model is investigated and the estimates of the AOA and distribution parameter on the received UWB cluster signals are obtained. The proposed model and estimation technique are verified using computer simulations, and the performance of the estimation error is analyzed.

  • In the class of models which include random effects, the variance component estimates are important to obtain accurate predictors and estimators. Variance component estimation is straightforward for balanced data but not for unbalanced data. Since orthogonality among factors is absent in unbalanced data, various methods for variance component estimation are available. REML estimation is the most widely used method in animal breeding because of its attractive statistical properties. Recently, Bayesian approach became feasible through Markov Chain Monte Carlo methods with increasingly powerful computers. Furthermore, advances in variance component estimation with complicated models such as generalized linear mixed models enabled animal breeders to analyze non-normal data.
