Tunability of Ba(Ti0.92Zr0.08)O3 Polycrystal Grown on Ceramic Seed by Floating Bone Technique (세라믹스 종결정 위에 Floating Zone Technique 법으로 성장한 Ba(Ti0.92Zr0.08)O3 다결정의 Tunability)

  • [ $Ba(Zr_{0.08}Ti_{0.92})O_3$ ] polycrystal was grown by floating zone technique with two ellipsoidal mirrors using the $8\%$of Zr-modified BZT ceramics as both a feed rod and a seed crystal. In order to study the annealing effect, a part of the grown crystal was sliced and annealed in the oxygen atmosphere at $1,200^{\circ}C$ for 10 h. The dielectric constant and loss at 10 kHz, 100 kHz, and 1 MHz were measured in the temperature range between $-100^{\circ}C$ and $150^{\circ}C$ to investigate the dielectric properties of the grown polycrystal. The electric-field dependence of the dielectric constant at 10 kHz and 100 kHz was studied by measuring the dielectric constants as a function of the biased-electric fields which ran from -15 kV/cm to 15 kV/cm. Due to the effect of annealing in the oxygen atmosphere, the electric-field tunability of dielectric constants increased from $47.5\%$ to 5 to and the figure of merit for this material from 39.6 to 46.4. Since the figure of merit can be increased to more than 46.4 by increasing the maximum value of the biased-electric fields to more than 15 V/cm, this material nay have a possibility for applications in microwave tuning devices at room temperature.

  • Energy harvesting technology that converts the wasted energy resources into electrical energy is emerging as a semipermanent power source for self-powered electronics and wireless low-power sensor systems. Among the various energy conversion techniques, flexible piezoelectric energy harvesters (f-PEHs), using materials with piezoelectric effects, have attracted significant interest because they can harvest a small mechanical energy into electrical signals without constraints of time and space in various environments. In this study, we used a flexible piezoelectric composite film fabricated by dispersing BaHfxTi(1-x)O3 (x = 0, 0.01, 0.05, 0.1) piezoelectric powders inside a polymeric matrix to facilitate f-PEHs. The fabricated f-PEH with optimal Hf contents (x = 0.05) generated a maximum output voltage of 0.95 V and current signal of 130 nA with stable electrical/mechanical disabilities under periodically bending deformations. In addition, we demonstrated a cantilever-type f-PEH and investigated its potential as a sensor by characterizing the output performance under mechanical vibrations at various frequencies. This study provides the breakthrough for realizing self-powered energy harvesting and sensing systems by adopting the lead-free piezoelectric composites under vibrational environments.

  • 최근 경재적인 한계를 드러내고 있는 실리콘 태양전지의 대안으로 주목받고 있는 염료감응형 태양전지는 식물의 광합성 원리에 기초하여 빛이 입사하면 염료 분자가 포톤을 흡수해 여기하면서 전자를 방출함으로써 기전력을 발생시키는 원리로 동작한다. 염료에서 발생된 전자는 $TiO_2$의 conduction band로 주입되어 확산을 통해 TCO 기판으로 이동한다. 이때 다공성 나노구조의 $TiO_2$ 표면과 전해질의 접촉이 발생하게 되고 이로 인해 $TiO_2$ conduction band의 전자와 전해질의 $I_3{^-}$ 간의 재결합이 발생하게 되는데 이것은 DSC의 기능을 저하시키는 요인 중의 하나이다. 이러한 문제점은 $Al_2O_3$, ZnO, MgO, $BaTiO_2$ 등의 표면처리에 의한 core-shell 나노구조를 형성함으로써 해결할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 aluminum isopropoxidee와 magnesium chloride 혼합 용액을 사용하여 core-shell 나노구조를 형성하여 셀을 제작하고, 완성된 셀의 출력특성과 내부 임피던스의 변화를 측정, 분석함으로써 단일 용액을 사용하였을 때에 비해 효과적인 재결합 감소와 광전압의 상승효과를 확인할 수 있었다.

Comparison of Abnormal Grain Growth Behavior of Lead-Free (Na,K)NbO3-M(Cu,Nb)O3, (M = Ca, Sr, Ba) Piezoelectric Ceramics (비납계 (Na,K)NbO3-M(Cu,Nb)O3, (M = Ca, Sr, Ba) 압전 세라믹의 비정상 결정 성장 거동 비교)

  • NKN [(Na,K)NbO3] is a candidate lead-free piezoelectric material to replace PZT [Pb(Zr,Ti)O3]. A single crystal has excellent piezoelectric-properties and its properties are dependent of the crystal orientation direction. However, it is hard to fabricate a single crystal with stoichiometrically stable composition due to volatilization of sodium during the growth process. To solve this problem, a solid solution composition is designed (Na,K)NbO3-Ba(Cu,Nb)O3 and solid state grain growth is studied for a sizable single crystal. Ceramic powders of (Na,K)NbO3-M(Cu,Nb)O3 (M = Ca, Sr, Ba) are synthesized and grain growth behavior is investigated for different temperatures and times. Average normal grain sizes of individual specimens, which are heat-treated at 1,125 ℃ for 10 h, are 6.9, 2.8, and 1.6 ㎛ for M = Ca, Sr, and Ba, respectively. Depending on M, the distortion of NKN structure can be altered. XRD results show that (NKN-CaCuN: shrunken orthorhombic; NKN-SrCuN: orthorhombic; NKN-BaCuN: cubic). For the sample heat-treated at 1,125 ℃ for 10 h, the maximum grain sizes of individual specimens are measured as 40, 5, and 4,000 ㎛ for M = Ca, Sr, and Ba, respectively. This abnormal grain size is related to the partial melting temperature (NKN-CaCuN: 960 ℃; NKN-SrCuN: 971 ℃; NKN-BaCuN: 945 ℃).

Terahertz dielectric characteristics of (Ba,Sr)$TiO_3$ thin films (테라헤르츠 영역에서의 BST 박막의 유전 특성 평가)

  • Ferroelectric $(Ba_{0.5}Sr_{0.5})TiO_3$ (BST) thin films of thickness 500nm were deposited on $LaAlO_3$, (LAO) substrates by at $800^{\circ}C$. BST films were characterized for structure using X-ray diffraction (XRD). The surface morphology and thickness of BST the films were characterized by atomic force microscopy (AFM) and field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM). We measured the dielectric properties at microwave frequencies (1~3 GHz) using a symmetrical stripline resonator with shorted ends and terahertz frequencies (0.2~2.5 THz) using a time-domain terahertz spectroscopy. The real and imaginary parts of the complex dielectric constant of the BST thin films on LAO substrates were in agreement with those previously reported.

Effective Properties of Multi-layered Multi-functional Composites

  • A matrix method for evaluating effective electro-magneto-thermo-elastic properties of a generally anisotropic multilayered composite is presented. Physical variables are categorized into two groups: one that satisfies the continuity across the interface between layers and another that satisfies an average inter-layer compatibility (which is also exact). The coupled electro-magneto-thermo-elastic constitutive equation is accordingly reassembled into submatrices, which leads to the derivation of concise and exact matrix expressions for effective properties of a multilayered composite having the coupled physical effects. Comparing the results for a purely elastic multiplayer with those from other theoretical approaches validates the developed method. Examples are given for a PZT-graphite/epoxy composite and a $BaTiO_3-CoFe_2O_4$ multiplayer which exhibit piezo-thermoelastic and magnetoelectric properties, respectively. The result shows how a strong magnetoelectric effect can be achieved by combining piezoelectric and piezomagnetic materials in a multilayered structure. The magnetoelectric coefficient of the $BaTiO_3-CoFe_2O_4$ multiplayer is compared with those for fibrous and particulate composites fabricated with the same constituents.

Effect of post annealing on the structural and electrical properties of $Ba_{0.5}Sr_{0.5}TiO_3$ films deposited on 4H-SiC (4H-SiC에 증착된 BST 박막의 열처리 효과에 따른 구조적, 전기적 특성)

  • We have investigated that the effect of post annealing on the structural and electrical properties of $Ba_{0.5}Sr_{0.5}TiO_3$ thin films. The BST thin films were deposited on n-type 4H-silicon carbide(SiC) using pulsed laser deposition (PLD). The deposition was carried out in oxygen ambient 100mTorr for 5 minutes, which results in about 300nm-thick BST films. For the BST/4H-SiC, 200nm thick silver was deposited on the BST films bye-beam evaporation. The X-ray diffraction patterns of the BST films revealed that the crystalline structure of BST thin films has been improved after post-annealing at $850^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour. The root mean square (RMS) surface roughness of the BST film measured by using a AFM was increased after post-annealing from 5.69nm to 11.49nm. The electrical properties of BST thin film were investigated by measuring the capacitance-voltage characteristics of a silver/BST/4H-SiC structure. After the post-annealing, dielectric constant of the film was increased from 159.67 to 355.33, which can be ascribed to the enhancement of the crystallinity of BST thin films.

  • [ $(Ba_{0.93}Ca_{0.07})_{1.009}(Ti_{0.82}Zr_{0.18})O_{2.}$ ] 이고 첨가제로 $MnO_2$ 0.2wt%, $Y_2O_3$ 0.18wt%, $SiO_2$ 0.15wt% 유리프릿으로 $(Ba_{0.4}Ca_{0.6})SiO_3$ 1 wt%를 첨가한 조성을 이용하여 각 공정별 최적화를 통해 고 신뢰성이면서 고용량 MLCC를 제작하였다 고 신뢰성 MLCC 제작에서 있어 최적의 소성온도를 확인 할 수 있었으며 외부 전극을 통한 도금액 침투를 방지하여 절연저항 특성을 향상할 수 있음을 확인하였다. 또한 1608 크기의 1.13uF의 용량을 가지는 고 신뢰성 MLCC를 제작하였다.

The Dielectric Properties of PZT(52/48)/BST(60/40) Heterolayered Thin Film Prepared bv RF Sputtering Method (RF 스퍼터링법을 이용한 PZT(52/48)/BST(60/40) 이종층 박막의 유전 특성)

  • The $Pb(Zr_{0.52}Ti_{0.48})O_3/(Ba_{0.6}Sr_{0.4})TiO_3$ [PZT(52/48)/BST(60/40)] heterolayered thin films were deposited on Pt/Ti/$SiO_2$/Si substrates by using the RF sputtering method with RF powers of 60,70,80,90[W]. All thin films showed the peaks of the tetragonal phase. Increasing the RF power, dielectric constant and loss of the PZT(52/48)/BST(60/40)] heterolayered thin films were decreased. The thickness ratio of PZT and BST thin films was 1/1. The relative dielectric constant and the dielectric loss of the PZT(52/48)/ BST(60/40) heterolayered thin films were 562 and 13%, respectively.

Geochemical Studies on Petrogenesis of the Cretaceous Myeongseongsan Granite in the Northwestern Gyeonggi Massif (경기육괴 북서부에 분포하는 백악기 명성산 화강암의 성인에 대한 지화학적 연구)

  • The Cretaceous Myeongseongsan Granite in the northwestern Gyeonggi Massif consists of a major pale pink-colored biotite monzogranite and a minor white-colored biotite alkaligranite. Low Sr and high Ba concentrations, negative Eu-anomalies in REE plot, negative Sr anomalies in spider diagram, a negative correlation between Sr and Rb, and positive correlations between Sr and Ba and $Eu/Eu^*$ indicate that a fractional crystallization of both plagioclase and K-feldspar played a significant role during magma evolution. The Myeongseongsan Granite is plotted in I-& S-type granites on I, S, A-type granite classification scheme. While the biotite monzogranite is plotted in unfractionated I-& S-type granite, the biotite alkaligranite is plotted in fractionated I-& S-type granite, which indicates that the biotite alkaligranite is a more differentiated product. In order to elucidate the nature of the protoliths of the peraluminous Myeongseongsan magma, we plotted in $Al_2O_3/TiO_2$ vs. $CaO/Na_2O$ and Rb/Sr vs. Rb/Ba diagrams, and they suggest that the Myeongseongsan Granite was derived from clay-poor metagreywackes and meta-psammites or their igneous counterparts. Whole-rock zircon saturation temperature indicates that the Myeongseongsan magma was melted at $740-799^{\circ}C$.
