고온가압소결한 SiCf/SiC 복합체에서 보호층으로써의 SiC 층이 기계적 물성에 미치는 영향

  • 고온가압소결으로 제조된 SiCf/SiC 복합체는 부식과 침식에 강하고 우수한 열적 성질과 고온에서의 높은 기계적 강도를 유지하는 장점을 가진 복합체다. 복합체의 파괴인성은 섬유와 기지 사이에 존재하는 열분해탄소 (PyC) 계면층에 의해 큰 영향을 받는데, 고온가압소결중 첨가되는 소결조제 ($Y_2O_3$, MgO, $Al_2O_3$)와 반응하여 계면이 손상되어 복합체의 기계적 특성치가 낮아지는 결과를 보였다. 본 연구에서는 계면의 손상을 보호하고자 PyC 계면상 위에 SiC 층을 증착하였는데 계면층과 SiC 층의 증착은 화학기상 증착법(CVD)을, 기지채움 공정은 전기영동법(EPD)과 고온가압소결방법(Hot Pressing)을 이용하여 복합체를 제조하였다. Tyranno-SA 섬유에 소스가스인 메탄을 열분해 하여 200nm 두께로 PyC 계면상을 증착하고, 두께를 달리하여 보호층으로써의 SiC 층을 single 과 double layer로 증착하였다. SiC 나노분말과 소결 첨가제인 $Y_2O_3$, $Al_2O_3$, MgO를 첨가한 슬러리를 전기영동법(EPD)을 이용하여 섬유내부에 슬러리를 함침시켰고, 이러한 프리폼을 $1750^{\circ}C$/20MPa의 조건으로 고온 가압소결 하여 $SiC_f$/SiC 복합체를 제조하였다. 이렇게 single layer와 double layer로 제조된 $SiC_f$/SiC 복합체에 대해 밀도와 미세구조를 관찰하였고, 기계적 특성을 비교하여 보호층으로써의 SiC 증착효과를 고찰하고자 하였다.

$\beta-Sialon/SiC$ Whisker 복합재료의 기계적 물성 및 마찰 마모 특성 연구 (Mechanical and Tribological Properties of $\beta-Sialon/SiC$ Whisker Composite)

  • $\beta$-Sialon has been regarded as one of promising materials showing high strength, fracture toughness, corrosion resistence and wear resistence. The improvement of the fracture toughness and tribological properties of $\beta$-Sialon (Z=1) has been attempeted by fabricating the $\beta$-Sialon/ SiC whisker composite. Each of green body composed of following ingredients, i.e., Si3N4, AlN, Y2O3 nd SiC, respectively, was first fired at 178$0^{\circ}C$ for 3hrs in N2 atmosphere and then post-HIPed at 173$0^{\circ}C$ for 1 hr under 170 MPa for N2 gas pressure. The fracture toughness, flexural strength and tribological properties increased with increasing SiC whisker content, despite the reduction of the relative density and hardness. $\beta$-Sialon/15 vol% SiC whisker showed a significant enhancement of wear resistance compared to the monolithic $\beta$-Sialon. The addition of SiC whisker caused the reduction of the density and hardness, but induced the increment of wear resistance.

무전해 Ni 복합도금 과정에서 분말의 공석기구에 대한 연구(II) (A Study on the Mechanism for the Formation of Partices in electroless Ni Composite Coating(II))

  • Mechanism of formation of electroless composite coatings is similar to that of electrodeposited composite coating, but the amount of particles entraped in electroless coating is higher that the one of electrodeposited coatings. The methol of entrapment by the metal for SiC and Al2O3 particles is different from that for WC particles. In the former case the particles are gracually engulfed by the depositing metal, wheran with WC a metal envelope is rapidly fomed around each particles. This difference can be attributed to the difference in electrical resistivity of the particles. Inclusion density of SiC and Al2O3 particles during copeposition depend on the particle size, agitation condition, vabration conditions and electrolyte temperatures.

가압소결 $SiC/Si_3N_4$ 복합체의 마찰마모특성 (Tribological Properties of Hot Pressed $SiC/Si_3N_4$ Composites)

  • SiC-Si3N4 composites were prepared by mixing $\alpha$-Si3N4 powder to $\alpha$-SiC powder in the range of 10 to 30 vol% with 10vol% interval. 6wg% Al2O3 and 6wt% Y2O3 were respectively added as sintering aids. Hot pressing was performed at 1,80$0^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour with 25 MPa pressure. In the case of adding 20vol% of $\alpha$-Si3N4 powder the relative density to theoretical value and the flexural strength were 99.1% and 34,420 MPa respectively and the worn amount was 2.09$\times$10-3 mm2 which were the highest values in the all range of he composition. Although the composite containig 10 vol% of $\alpha$-Si3N4 powder showed the highest fracture toughness(KIC) of 4.65MN/m3/2 the reduction of the wear resistance in this composite is likely to be affected by the homogeneity and the uniformity of the grain coalescence and growth during the sintering process.

B4C tile 삽입 B4Cp/Al7075 하이브리드 복합재의 계면 제어를 통한 내충격 특성의 향상 (Improvement of Impact Resistance of B4C Tile Inserted B4Cp/Al7075 Hybrid Composites Through Interface Control)

  • 본 연구에서는 B4C tile 삽입 B4Cp/Al7075 하이브리드 복합재의 내충격성을 향상시키기 위하여 B4C/Al7075 계면의 제어법을 개발하고 제어된 계면의 특성에 관하여 분석하였다. 이를 위해 B4C 타일 표면에 B2O3, Ni, 그리고 Si을 각각 열산화, 무전해도금, 그리고 플라즈마 용사법을 이용하여 코팅하였다. 이후 코팅된 B4C 타일을 액상 가압법을 이용하여 B4C/Al7075 복합재 내부에 삽입하여 B4C tile 삽입 B4Cp/Al7075 하이브리드 복합재를 제작하였다. 코팅의 효과를 체계적으로 분석하기 위해 계면에너지, 접합 강도, 그리고 내충격성을 측정하였다. 모든 코팅이 계면에너지, 계면강도, 내충격성을 증가시켰으며 특히 B2O3 코팅 시 내충격성이 86.8% 증가하였다. 본 연구는 차세대 경량 장갑, 방탄소재로 주목받고 있는 B4C/Al 계열 복합재의 성능을 향상시키는 핵심적인 표면처리법을 개발, 분석한 것에 의의가 있다.

반응소결된 다공성 뮬라이트의 미세구조 제어 (Microstructure Control of Reaction-Sintered Porous Mullite)

  • 금속/세라믹 복합체의 강화제로 사용가능한 다공성 뮬라이트 제조 시 공정변수 변화가 침상형 미세구조 형성에 미치는 영향에 대해 고찰하였다. 출발물질을 $Al_2O_3+SiO_2$$Al(OH)_3+SiO_2$로 달리하여 미세구조 변화를 고찰한 결과, $Al_2O_3$보다 반응성이 우수한 $Al(OH)_3$를 사용한 시편에서 더욱 발달한 침상형 구조가 나타났으며, 첨가제 $AlF_3$의 함량이 증가할수록, $SiF_4$가 발생하는 온도구간인 $900^{\circ}C$에서 유지하는 시간이 길수록 반응을 잘 일어나 시편 전체에서 침상형 뮬라이트가 형성되었다. 소결 온도의 경우 $1200^{\circ}C$에서부터 뮬라이트가 생성되었고, 소결 온도변화에 따른 미세구조는 큰 변화를 관찰할 수 없었다. 기공률은 첨가제의 양이 증가할수록, $900^{\circ}C$에서의 유지시간이 길수록 증가하였다.

  • Composites of SiC-Si3N4 consisted of uniformly distributed elongated $\beta$-Si3N4 grains and equiaxed $\beta$-SiC grains were fabricated with $\beta$-SiC,. $\alpha$-Si3N4 Al2O3 and Y2O3 powders. By hot-pressing and subsequent annelaing elongated $\beta$-Si3N4 grains were grown via$\alpha$longrightarrow$\beta$ phase transformation and equiaxed $\beta$-Si3N4 composites increased with increasing the Si3N4 content owing to the reduced defect size and enhanced crack deflection by elongated $\beta$-Si3N4 grains and the grain boundary strengthening by nitrogen incorporation. Typical flexural strength and fracture toughness of SiC-40 wt% Si3N4 composites were 783 MPa and 4.2 MPa.m1/2 respectively.

SiC 휘스커 보강 알루미나 복합재료에서 Slow Crack Growth 현상의 직접관찰 연구 (In Situ Observation of Slow Crack Growth in a Whisker-Reinforced Alumina Matrix Composite)

  • In this study the subcritical crack growth behavior in an Al2O3-SiCw composite has been investigated using in situ fracture technique of applied moment double cantilever beam (AMDCB) specimens indside an SEM. This technique allows the detailed observation of whisker and grain bridging in the crack wake region. The experimental results indicated that the KI-a curve was deviated from the conventional powder law form and that the existed a region where the rate of microcrack growth was decreased with increasing the externally applied stress intensity factor. This behavior could be explained by arising crack growth resistance i.e. R-curve behavior which was associated with crack shielding due to whisker and grain bridging. The R-curve was also analyzed from the KI-a curve data in order to quantify the bridging effect in the Al2O3-SiCw composite.

Effect of Additive Amount on Microstructure and Fracture Toughness of SiC-TiC Composites

  • Powder mixtures of $\beta$-SiC-TiC in a weight ratio of 2:1 containing 5-20 wt% additives ($Al_2O_3$-$Y_2O_3$) were liquid-phase sintered at $1830^{\circ}C$ for 1h by hot-pressing and subsequently annealed at $1950^{\circ}C$ for 6h to enhance grain growth. The annealed specimens revealed a microstructure of \"in situ-toughened composite\" as a result of the $\beta$longrightarrow$\alpha$ phase transformation of SiC during annealing. The increase of the content of additives accelerated the growth of elongated $\alpha$-SiC grains with higher aspect ratio and improved fracture toughness. The fracture toughness of SiC-TiC composite containing 20 wt% additive was 6.2 MPa.$m^{1/2}$.2}$.

Application of the full factorial design to modelling of Al2O3/SiC particle reinforced al-matrix composites

  • $Al_2O_3$/SiC particulate reinforced (Metal Matrix Composites) MMCs which were produced by using stir casting process, bending strength and hardening behaviour were obtained using an analysis of variance (ANOVA) technique that uses full factorial design. Factor variables and their ranges were: particle size $2-60{\mu}m$; the stirring speed 450 rpm, 500 rpm and the stirring temperature $620^{\circ}C$, $650^{\circ}C$. An empirical equation was derived from test results to describe the relationship between the test parameters. This model for the tensile strength of the hybrid composite materials with $R^2$ adj = 80% for the bending strength $R^2$ adj = 89% were generated from the data. The regression coefficients of this model quantify the tensile strength and bending strengths of the effects of each of the factors. The interactions of all three factors do not present significant percentage contributions on the tensile strength and bending strengths of hybrid composite materials. Analysis of the residuals versus was predicted the tensile strength and bending strengths show a normalized distribution and thereby confirms the suitability of this model. Particle size was found to have the strongest influence on the tensile strength and bending strength.
