  • Antioxdant effect was studied in model system with linoleic acid methylester and tocochromanols $({\alpha}-,\;{\beta}-,\;{\gamma}-,\;{\delta}-tocopherol\;and \;{\alpha}-,\;{\gamma}-,\;{\delta}-tocotrienol)$ under definite autoxidation condition-temperature $(40,\;60,\;80^{\circ}C),\;O_2\;(0,\;10,\;20%\;O_2\;in\;N_2)$. 13-Hydroperoxy-9-cis-11-trans-, 13-hydroperoxy-9-trans-11-trans-, 9-hydroperoxy-10-trans-12-cis-, 9-hydroperoxy-10-trans-12-trans-octadecadienoic acid methylester as the major oxidation product were produced from linoleic acid methylester by autoxidation, analyzed with HPLC and antioxidant activities were compared by their quantitative changes. Experimental results showed that all added tocochromanols except ${\alpha}-tocotrienol$ had antioxidant effect at $60^{\circ}C$, and also ${\alpha}-tocopherol$, ${\alpha}-tocotrienol$ and ${\delta}-tocotrienol$ had prooxidant effect at $80^{\circ}C$. And cis/trans-hydroperoxide was predominantly produced at $40^{\circ}C$, but trans/trans-hydroperoxide at $80^{\circ}C$. Except no reproductive experimental data in produced hydroperoxides amount, the production ratio of cis/trans-:trans/trans-hydroperoxides in the autoxidation condition of range from $40^{\circ}C/10%,\;O_2\;to\;60^{\circ}C/20%\;O_2$ were as follows: ${\alpha}-T>{\alpha}-T_3>{\gamma}-T>{\beta}-T>{\gamma}-T_3>{\delta}-T>{\delta}-T_3$. This result showed that ${\alpha}-tocopherol$ among tocochromanols had the lowest antioxidant effect.

  • W. A. Dudek, M. Shabir and M. Irfan Ali discussed the properties of (${\alpha},{\beta}$)-fuzzy ideals of hemirings in [9]. In this paper, we discuss the generalization of their results on (${\alpha},{\beta}$)-fuzzy ideals of hemirings. As a generalization of the notions of $({\alpha},\;\in{\vee}q)$-fuzzy left (right) ideals, $({\alpha},\;\in{\vee}q)$-fuzzy h-ideals and $({\alpha},\;\in{\vee}q)$-fuzzy k-ideals, the concepts of $({\alpha},\;\in{\vee}q_m)$-fuzzy left (right) ideals, $({\alpha},\;\in{\vee}q_m)$-fuzzy h-ideals and $({\alpha},\;\in{\vee}q_m)$-fuzzy k-ideals are defined, and their characterizations are considered. Using a left (right) ideal (resp. h-ideal, k-ideal), we construct an $({\alpha},\;\in{\vee}q_m)$-fuzzy left (right) ideal (resp. $({\alpha},\;\in{\vee}q_m)$-fuzzy h-ideal, $({\alpha},\;\in{\vee}q_m)$-fuzzy k-ideal). The implication-based fuzzy h-ideals (k-ideals) of a hemiring are considered.

  • Let S = {a, b, c, ...} and ${\Gamma}$ = {${\alpha}$, ${\beta}$, ${\gamma}$, ...} be two nonempty sets. S is called a ${\Gamma}$-semigroup if $a{\alpha}b{\in}S$, for all ${\alpha}{\in}{\Gamma}$ and a, b ${\in}$ S and $(a{\alpha}b){\beta}c=a{\alpha}(b{\beta}c)$, for all a, b, c ${\in}$ S and for all ${\alpha}$, ${\beta}$ ${\in}$ ${\Gamma}$. An element $e{\in}S$ is said to be an ${\alpha}$-idempotent for some ${\alpha}{\in}{\Gamma}$ if $e{\alpha}e$ = e. A ${\Gamma}$-semigroup S is called an E-inversive ${\Gamma}$-semigroup if for each $a{\in}S$ there exist $x{\in}S$ and ${\alpha}{\in}{\Gamma}$ such that a${\alpha}$x is a ${\beta}$-idempotent for some ${\beta}{\in}{\Gamma}$. A ${\Gamma}$-semigroup is called a right E-${\Gamma}$-semigroup if for each ${\alpha}$-idempotent e and ${\beta}$-idempotent f, $e{\alpha}$ is a ${\beta}$-idempotent. In this paper we investigate different properties of E-inversive ${\Gamma}$-semigroup and right E-${\Gamma}$-semigroup.

  • An acute ethanol load(50mmol/kg , i.p) resulted in an increase in peroxidation and a decrease in the levels of $\alpha$-tocopherol and ascorbate in rat cerebellum. Pretreatement with allopurinol(146$\mu$mol/kg, i.p) prevented the ethnol-induced increment in lipid peroxidation and decrease in $\alpha$-tocopherol content. However, the decrease of ascorbate was of greater magnitude when allopurinol was associated with ethanol. These results suggested that allopurinol. besides its action as a radical scavenger and xanthine oxidase inhibitor, might favor the regeneration of $\alpha$-tocopherol antioxidant acitviity was studied using ${\gamma}$-radiolysis in aerated ethanolic solutions. Even though allopurinol did not react by itself with $\alpha$-hydroxyethyl-peroxyl radicals [H3C-CH(OH)OO] , it enhance the $\alpha$-hydroxyethyl-peroxyl radical scavenging properties of $\alpha$tocopherol. The regeneration of $\alpha$-tocopherol from the $\alpha$-hydroxyethyl-peroxyl radical scavenging properties of $\alpha$-tocophero. The regeneration of $\alpha$-tocopherol from the $\alpha$-tocopherol radical by ascorbate remained as efficient in the presence of allopurinol as in its absence. The effects of allopurinol on the Vitamin E oxidation-reduction mechanism could be involoved in the beneficial effectof allopurinol on the biological cellular damages linked to free radical reactions.

  • $Li_2Sr_{1-x}Eu_xSiO_{4-{\alpha}}N_{\alpha}$ ($Li_2SrSiO_{4-{\alpha}}N_{\alpha}:Eu^{2+}$) phosphors were synthesized by using a solid state reaction (SSR) method with submicron $Si_3N_4$ and nano $Si_3N_4$ powders as the sources of Si and N, and the optical properties of those phosphors were studied. The studied phosphors showed efficient excitation characteristics over the broad range from 230 to 530 nm. Also, They showed broad emission spectra covering a range from 500 to 700 nm, with a peak at 568 nm, which was shifted longer wavelength by 18 nm as compared with that of commercial $YAG:Ce^{3+}$. Combined with a 450 nm blue LED chip, the results support the application of the $Li_2SrSiO_{4-{\alpha}}N_{\alpha}:Eu^{2+}$ phosphor as a luminescent material for a white-light source thaat is warmer than the commercial $YAG:Ce^{3+}$ white-light source. In addition, the $Li_2SrSiO_{4-{\alpha}}N_{\alpha}$ phosphors prepared from a submicron $Si_3N_4$ powder was found to emit a previously unreported self-activated luminescence in $Li_2SrSiO_{4-{\alpha}}N_{\alpha}$.

  • We studied oocyte steroidogenesis in the blackfin flounder Glyptocephalus stelleri as a region-specific species, in the East Sea of Korea during the spawning season. Maturing oocytes (0.76, 0.82, 0.88, and 0.91 mm in oocyte diameter) were incubated in vitro in the presence of [$^3H$] $17{\alpha}$-hydroxyprogesterone ($[^3H]17{\alpha}$-OHP) as a precursor. Steroid metabolites were extracted from the incubated medium and oocytes, and the extracts were separated and identified by thin-layer chromatography (TLC), high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and gas chromatographymass spectrometry (GC/MS). The major metabolites produced from $[^3H]17{\alpha}$-OHP were androgens [androstenedione (A4) and testosterone (T)] and estrogens [$17{\beta}$-estradiol (E2) and estrone (E1)] and progestins [$17{\alpha},20{\alpha}$-dihydroxy-4-pregen-3-one ($17{\alpha}20{\alpha}P$) and $17{\alpha}20{\beta}$-dihydroxy-4-pregnen-3-one ($17{\alpha}20{\beta}P$)] in maturing oocytes. The metabolic rate of $17{\alpha}20{\beta}$ was elevated (29.04%) in oocytes measuring 0.88 mm (nucleus migration stage following the induction of germinal vesicle breakdown), but was very low in oocytes measuring 0.76, 0.82, and 0.91 mm (0.42, 0.67, and 2.62%, respectively). From these results, we suggest that $17{\alpha}20{\beta}P$ acts as a maturation-inducing steroid in the blackfin flounder.

  • Ferric oxide (${\alpha}-Fe_2O_3$, hematite) is an n-type semiconductor; due to its narrow band gap ($E_g=2.1eV$), it is a highly attractive and desirable material for use in solar hydrogenation by water oxidation. However, the actual conversion efficiency achieved with $Fe_2O_3$ is considerably lower than the theoretical values because the considerably short diffusion length (2-4 nm) of holes in $Fe_2O_3$ induces excessive charge recombination and low absorption. This is a significant hurdle that must be overcome in order to obtain high solar-to-hydrogen conversion efficiency. In consideration of this, it is thought that elemental doping, which may make it possible to enhance the charge transfer at the interface, will have a marked effect in terms of improving the photoactivities of ${\alpha}-Fe_2O_3$ photoanodes. Herein, we report on the synthesis by pulsed electrodeposition of ${\alpha}-Fe_2O_3$-based anodes; we also report on the resulting photoelectrochemical (PEC) properties. We attempted Ti-doping to enhance the PEC properties of ${\alpha}-Fe_2O_3$ anodes. It is revealed that the photocurrent density of a bare ${\alpha}-Fe_2O_3$ anode can be dramatically changed by controlling the condition of the electrodeposition and the concentration of $TiCl_3$. Under optimum conditions, a modified ${\alpha}-Fe_2O_3$ anode exhibits a maximum photocurrent density of $0.4mA/cm^2$ at 1.23 V vs. reversible hydrogen electrode (RHE) under 1.5 G simulated sunlight illumination; this photocurrent density value is about 3 times greater than that of unmodified ${\alpha}-Fe_2O_3$ anodes.

  • ${\alpha}$-Ferric Hydrous Oxide and ${\alpha}$-Ferric Oxide were obtained as following processes that Ferric Nitrate solution was adjusted to pH 6-8 with Ammonium Hydroxide, refluxed the Iron precipitate for 1 hr. at 80$^{\circ}C$, washed it with water and Methanol (95%), dried it to obtain ${\alpha}$-Ferric Hydrous Oxide at 60$^{\circ}C$, and then heated in atmosphere to prepare ${\alpha}$-Ferric Oxide for 1 hr. at 450$^{\circ}C$. Mica particles cleaned with ultrasonicator (45KHz) in water were mixed with Ferric Nitrate solution and treated it to adsorb ${\alpha}$-Ferric Oxide on the surface of mica particles by using the abovementioned processes, but the heated temperature was at 500$^{\circ}C$. The maximum wavelength of reflected light on the surface of mica-${\alpha}$-Ferric Oxide (50%) was appeared at 546nm but -Ferric Oxide free mica only was at 436 nm. The maximum wavelength was shifted to longer when the weight ratios of ${\alpha}$-Ferric Oxide to mica was changed from 1% to 50%.

  • The stabilization of Aspergillus sp. $\alpha$-amylase was attained by modification with periodate-oxidized sol-uble starch. The pH stability of modified enzyme was increased at pH 3~4 and 9~11 in the presence of $\alpha$-cyclodextrin($\alpha$-CD) compared with that of native enzyme. Thermal stability of the modified enzyme was increased. After treatment at 6$0^{\circ}C$ for 30min the activity remained 20% for the enzyme modified at pH 9.7 in the presence of $\alpha$-CD and tested in the presence of $\alpha$-CD 10% for the enzyme modified at pH 9.7 in the presence of $\alpha$-CD 0% for the native enzyme. The native enzyme and modified enzyme showed one peak in HPLC. The substrate specificity of the modified enzyme was not changed in HPLC analysis of reaction product.
