기체분리용 세라믹 복합분리막의 개발: I. 극미세 입자 실리카 졸의 코팅 특성 (Development of Ceramic Composite Membranes for Gas Separation: I. Coating Characteristics of Nanoparticulate SiO2 Sols)

  • Alumina tubes suitable for the support of gas separation membranes have been prepared by the slipcasting technique. These supports have the average pore size of 0.1 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ within the narrow distribution. The sol-gel dipcoating process of nanoparticulate sols is very sensitive to microstructure of the support, and the coating on the inside surface of the tube is found to be more successful than on the outside surface. Nanoparticulate silica sols (0.82 mol/ι) have been synthesized by an interfacial hydrolysis reaction between TEOS and high alkaline water. When coating an alumina tube with these sols, the minimum limits of the particle size and the aging time required for forming the coated gel layer at the given pH are provided. It is optimum to coat the support with less concentrated sols stabilized through aging for the appropriate time (more than 22 days) at the lower pH (pH 2.0) for producing a reproducible crack free thin film coating in composite membranes.

Effect of $N_2$-backflushing Time in Carbon Ceramic UF & MF System for Paper Wastewater Treatment

  • The wastewater discharged from a paper plant was filtrated by 3 kinds of tubular carbon ceramic UF and MF membranes with $N_2$-backflushing. The filtration time (FT) was fixed at 8 min or 16 min, and $N_2$-backflushing time (BT) was changed in 0${\~}$60 sec. The optimal condition was discussed in the viewpoints of total permeate volume ($V_T$), dimensionless permeate flux (J/Jo) and resistance of membrane fouling ($R_f$). In the viewpoints of $V_T$, J/Jo and $R_f$, the optimal $N_2$-BT was 40 sec at both FT for M9 (MWCO: 300,000 Daltons) and C005 ($0.05{\mu}m$) membranes. However, for C010 ($0.1{\mu}m$) it was 10 sec at FT=8 min, and 20 sec at FT=16 min in the viewpoints of J/Jo and $R_f$, and 5 sec at both FT in the viewpoints of $V_T$. It means that the short $N_2$-BT could reduce the membrane fouling and recover the permeate flux sufficiently for MF membrane having a large pore size as C010. Average rejection rates of pollutants were higher than $99.0\%$ for turbidity and $22.8{\~}59.6\%$ for $COD_{cr}$, but rejection rates of total dissolved solid (TDS) were lower than $8.9\%$. Therefore, the low turbidity water purified in our system could be reused for paper process.

인산 및 2-부톡시에탄올 첨가에 의한 PSF 고분자 분리막의 제조 및 특성 (Preparation and Characterization of PSF Membranes by Phosphoric Acid and 2-Butoxyethanol)

  • 침지법 상전이 공정 방법으로 polysulfone (PSF) 분리막을 제조하였다. PSF/NMP/PVP/phosphoric acid의 캐스팅 용액과 물 침전조를 이용하여 분리막을 제조하였다. 증기 유도 상전이법과 비용매 유도 상전이법을 연속하여 적용함으로서 캐스팅 용액에 첨가된 인산의 영향이 분리막의 구조 및 투과량에 미치는 영향을 살펴보았다. 미량의 인산의 첨가로도 평균 기공의 크기, 공극률, 수투과량의 증가를 볼 수 있었다. 또한 분리막의 구조가 치밀한 스펀지 형태의 구조에서 비대칭성이 향상된 구조로 변화함을 확인할 수 있었다. PSF/NMP/PVP/phosphoric acid/BE를 함유한 캐스팅 용액을 준비한 후 동일한 조건으로 증기 유도 상전이법과 비용매 유도 상전이법을 연속하여 적용하여 분리막을 제조하였다. BE의 첨가는 평균 기공의 크기를 거의 0.1 ${\mu}m$ 정도 향상시키는 효과를 가져왔으며 수 투과 유량 또한 10~12 $L/cm^2{\cdot}min{\cdot}bar$ 향상시키는 결과를 나타내었다.

네일샵미용실의 실내공기 중 미세먼지(PM10), 휘발성 유기화합물 (VOCs), 알데하이드류(Aldehydes)의 농도 및 업소 특성에 따른 상관성 분석 (Characteristics of PM10, VOCs and Aldehydes Levels in Nail and Hair Shops)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to assess the indoor levels of $PM_{10}$, VOCs and aldehydes in nail shop and hair salon. Methods: The field survey was conducted for 52 hair salons 52 nail shops, and 26 shop-in-shops in Seoul and Daegu city. The field technicians investigated characteristics of each shop including operating time, indoor volume, ventilation and so on. Indoor concentrations of $PM_{10}$, VOCs and aldehydes, indoor temperature and humidity were measured in 12 hair salons, 12 nail shops and 6 shop-in shops. MP Surveryor II (Graywolf, USA) was used to measure $CO_2$ concentration, temperature and humidity for 8 hours. $PM_{10}$ concentrations were measured by minivolume air sampler with Teflon quartz filter ($0.2{\mu}m$ pore size, ${\varphi}$ 47 mm, Graseby-Anderson TEF-DISKTM) for 6 hours. VOCs passive sampler (OVM 3500) was used to collect VOCs for 8 hours and analyzed by GC/MSD. Results: The $CO_2$ concentrations were $759.4{\pm}58.2$ ppm in nail shops, $731.0{\pm}72.5$ ppm in hair salons, and $656.4{\pm}31.2$ ppm in shop-in-shops. The $PM_{10}$ concentrations were $27.5{\pm}14.2{\mu}g/m^3$ in nail shops, $33.1{\pm}6.3{\mu}g/m^3$ in hair salons, and $39.0{\pm}26.9{\mu}g/m^3$ in shop-in-shops. TVOCs concentrations were $3085.4{\pm}1667.8{\mu}g/m^3$ in nail shops, $2131.1{\pm}617.3{\mu}g/m^3$ in hair salons, and $1550.3{\pm}529.0{\mu}g/m^3$ in shop-in-shops. TVOCs concentrations in nail shops were significantly higher than those in hair salons and shop-in-shops (p=0.002). Formaldehyde concentrations were $60.8{\pm}36.6{\mu}g/m^3$ in nail shops, $89.1{\pm}55.4{\mu}g/m^3$ in hair salons, and $45.1{\pm}22.5{\mu}g/m^3$ in shop-in-shops. Conclusion: TVOCs concentrations in nail shop were the highest among others. TVOC concentrations in all stores exceeded indoor air quality stand of indoor air quality control in public-use facilities, etc act.

The Importance of Filter Integrity Test to Ensure Sterility of Radiophamaceuticals for Using PET Image

  • The radiopharmaceuticals are routinely injected to blood vessel for acquiring PET image. For this reason, It is imperative that they undergo strict quality control measures. Especially, Sterility test is more important than any other quality control procedures. According to the FDA guideline, It requires filter integrity test used in the processing of sterile solutions. Among several methods, we can decide to use bubble point test. We usually use vented GS-filters (Millipore co., USA) which are sterilizinggrade (0.22 um pore size) and are placed upper site on product vial. After the synthesis of $^{18}F$-FDG, solutions wet the membrane in filter and then go into the product vial. By all synthesis steps have finished, we can observe the presence of the bubbles in the product vial. Since we have started this study, we have never found any bubbles in the product vial. Because the maximum pressure intensity of the filter which has set by manufacturer is up to 5 bars, but helium gas pressure is up to 1 bar in our module system. So, we can make 5 bars pressure using helium gas bombe and increase pressure up to 5 bars step by step. However, it does not happen to anything in vial.

Heat and mass transfer analysis in air gap membrane distillation process for desalination

  • The air gap membrane distillation (AGMD) process was applied for water desalination. The main objective of the present work was to study the heat and mass transfer mechanism of the process. The experiments were performed on a flat sheet module using aqueous NaCl solutions as a feed. The membrane employed was hydrophobic PTFE of pore size 0.22 ${\mu}m$. A mathematical model is proposed to evaluate the membrane mass transfer coefficient, thermal boundary layers' heat transfer coefficients, membrane / liquid interface temperatures and the temperature polarization coefficients. The mass transfer model was validated by the experimentally and fitted well with the combined Knudsen and molecular diffusion mechanism. The mass transfer coefficient increased with an increase in feed bulk temperature. The experimental parameters such as, feed temperature, 313 to 333 K, feed velocity, 0.8 to 1.8 m/s (turbulent flow region) were analyzed. The permeation fluxes increased with feed temperature and velocity. The effect of feed bulk temperature on the boundary layers' heat transfer coefficients was shown and fairly discussed. The temperature polarization coefficient increased with feed velocity and decreased with temperature. The values obtained were 0.56 to 0.82, indicating the effective heat transfer of the system. The fouling was observed during the 90 h experimental run in the application of natural ground water and seawater. The time dependent fouling resistance can be added in the total transport resistance.

축산폐수 처리를 위한 막결합형 이상 혐기성 반응조에서 여과막 저항특성 (Fouling Characteristics in Submerged Membrane System of Two-Phase Anaerobic Reactor for Piggery Wastewater Treatment)

  • 본 연구는 재래식 혐기성 공법에 비해 메탄회수율과 처리효율이 우수한 막분리형 이상 혐기성 반응시스템을 개발하여 산생성 반응조의 미생물 체류시간을 증대시키고 시스템 운전효율을 향상시키기 위해 수행하였다. Pilot plant 운전에 사용된 막은 셀룰로오스 계통으로 $0.5{\mu}m$의 막공경과 $0.8m^2$의 유효 표면적을 가졌으며 메탄발효조는 UASB와 AF로 구성되어 있다. 혐기성 침지형 반응조를 운전한 결과 COD 제거율은 70~80%, 생성가스 중 메탄함율은 90%까지 향상시킬 수 있었다. Pilot plant 운전동안 막의 케이크 저항이 중요한 막오염원으로 나타남에 따라 이를 최소화하기 위해 세가지 공경 (40, 53, $63{\mu}m$)을 가진 전처리 필터로 적용하였다. 적용된 prefilter중 $63{\mu}m$ 전처리 필터의 경우가 가장 효과적으로 케이크 저항을 줄이고 막 유속을 증가시켜 50일 이상 장기운전을 가능케 하였다. 또한 장기 운전으로 인한 막 오염물질은 산과 알카리 세척용액에 의해 연속적으로 세척함으로써 최초 막유속의 89% 까지 회복할 수 있었다.

이산화탄소 분리를 위한 이온성액체 지지분리막의 제조 (Supported Ionic Liquid Membrane Preparation for Carbon Dioxide Separation)

  • 본 연구는 이산화탄소를 효율적으로 분리하기 위한 이온성액체 지지분리막 제조를 목적으로 한다. 공칭크기 0.1 ${\mu}m$ PVDF 정밀여과막에 이온성액체인 [bmim][${PF_6}^-$] (1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate)를 분리막 세공내로 흡입시켜 고정화하였다. 제조된 이온성액체 지지막에 대한 $N_2$, $H_2$, $CO_2$ 기체의 투과도는 0.075, 0.203, 1.380 GPU로 측정되었으며 $CO_2/N_2$, $H_2/N_2$의 선택도는 각각 14.2와 2.69이었다. 또한 이온성액체 지지분리막은 이온성 액체가 운전압력 2.0 bar까지 세공 내에 고정되어 안정적으로 운전 가능하였다.

좁쌀약주의 청징화 (Clarification of Foxtail Millet Wine)

  • 제주도 전통주인 좁쌀약주를 청징화시키기 위하여 원심분리에 의한 청징화 방법, 단백효소제(papain, bromelain, ficin)에 의한 청징화 방법과 한외여과에 의한 청징화 방법들을 검토하여 좁쌀청주의 가장 효과적인 청징화 방법을 모색하고자 하였다. 원심분리에 의해서만은 혼탁물질의 완전한 제거는 불가능하였으며, 단백효소제를 이용한 경우에서는 효소농도 $5{\times}10^{-4}%(w/v)$ 작용시간 2시간, 작용온도 $35^{\circ}C$에서 매우 우수한 청징효과를 나타냈다. 효소별 청징도는 papain과 bromelain은 거의 비슷한 효과를 보였으나, ficin의 청칭력은 약간 떨어졌다. 한외여과(여과막 크기 100k와 $0.22{\mu}m$막)에 의한 청징화는 효소에 의한 최고의 청징화 수준보다 약간 우수한 청징효과를 보였으며, 효소처리에 비하여 향미성분의 손실이나 색도가 좀더 나아서 UF에 의한 청징화 방법이 간단하고 경제적인 방법이었다.

Evaluation of the efficiency of cleaning method in direct contact membrane distillation of digested livestock wastewater

  • This study investigated effects of physical and chemical cleaning methods on the initial flux recovery of fouled membrane in membrane distillation process. A laboratory scale direct contact membrane distillation (DCMD) experiment was performed to treat digested livestock wastewater with 3.89 mg/L suspended solids, 874.7 mg/L COD, 543.7 mg/L nitrogen, 15.6 mg/L total phosphorus, and pH of 8.6. A hydrophobic PVDF membrane with an average pore size of $0.22{\mu}m$ and a porosity of 75 % was installed inside a direct contact type membrane distillation module. The temperature difference between feed and permeate side was maintained at $40^{\circ}C$ with the feed and permeate stream velocity of 0.18 m/s. The results showed that the permeate flux decreased from $22.1L{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}hr^{-1}$ to $19.0L{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}hr^{-1}$ after 75 hours of distillation. The fouled membrane was cleaned first by physical flushing and consecutively by chemicals with NaOCl and citric acid. After the physical cleaning the flux was recovered to 92 % as compared with the initial clean water flux of the virgin membrane. Then 94 % of the flux was recovered after cleaning by 2,000 ppm NaOCl for 90 minutes and finally 97 % of flux recovered after 3 % citric acid for 90 minutes. SEM-EDS and FT-IR analysis results presented that the foulants on the membrane surface were removed effectively after each cleaning step. The contact angle measurement showed that the hydrophobicity of the membrane surface was also restored gradually after each cleaning step to reach nearly the same hydrophobicity level as the virgin membrane.
