  • The microstructure and positive temperature coefficient of resistivity (PTCR) characteristics of 0.1 mol%$Na_2Ti_6O_{13}$ doped $0.94BaTiO_3-0.06(Bi_{0.5}Na_{0.5})TiO_3$ (BBNT-NT001) ceramics sintered at various temperatures from $1200^{\circ}C$ to $1350^{\circ}C$ were investigated in order to develop eco-friendly PTCR thermistors with a high Curie temperature ($T_C$). Resulting thermistors showed a perovskite structure with a tetragonal symmetry. When sintered at $1200^{\circ}C$, the specimen had a uniform microstructure with small grains. However, abnormally grown grains started to appear at $1250^{\circ}C$ and a homogeneous microstructure with large grains was exhibited when the sintering temperature reached $1325^{\circ}C$. When the temperature exceeded $1325^{\circ}C$, the grain growth was inhibited due to the numerous nucleation sites generated at the extremely high temperature. It is considered that $Na_2Ti_6O_{13}$ is responsible for the grain growth of the $0.94BaTiO_3-0.06(Bi_{0.5}Na_{0.5})TiO_3$) ceramics by forming a liquid phase during the sintering at around $1300^{\circ}C$. The grain growth of the BBNT-NT001 ceramics was significantly correlated with a decrease of resistivity. All the specimens were observed to have PTCR characteristics except for the sample sintered at $1200^{\circ}C$. The BBNT-NT001 ceramics had significantly decreased $\tilde{n}_{rt}$ and increased resistivity jump with increasing sintering temperature at from $1200^{\circ}C$ to $1325^{\circ}C$. Especially, the BBNT-NT001 ceramics sintered at $1325^{\circ}C$ exhibited superior PTCR characteristics of low resistivity at room temperature ($122\;{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$), high resistivity jump ($1.28{\times}10^4$), high resistivity temperature factor (20.4%/$^{\circ}C$), and a high Tc of $157.9^{\circ}C$.

  • $(1-x)BaTiO_3-x(Bi_{0.5}Na_{0.5})TiO_3$ ($0.01{\leq}x{\leq}0.10$) ceramics were fabricated with muffled sintering by a modified synthesis process. Their positive temperature coefficient of resistivity (PTCR) characteristics were investigated systematically. All specimen showed a perovskite structure with a tetragonal symmetry. Both the lattice parameter of a and c axes were slightly decreased with increasing $(Bi_{0.5}Na_{0.5})TiO_3$ (BNT) content. Grain growth was achieved when the incorporated BNT was increased to 6 mol% and the inhibition of grain growth is considered to be due to the appearance of Ba vacancy ($V^{"}_{Ba}$) in the $(1-x)BaTiO_3-x(Bi_{0.5}Na_{0.5})TiO_3$ ($0.08{\leq}x$). With 4 mol% BNT addition, room temperature resistivity decreased to $48 \Omega{\cdot}cm$ and a resistivity jump ($\rho_{max}/\rho_{min}$) was as high as $1.1{\times}10^4$, respectively. Curie temperature was also increased to $171^{\circ}C$ with increasing BNT content.

  • Anode-supported solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) was investigated to increase the cell power density at intermediate temperature through control of the cathode structure. The anode-supported SOFC cell were fabricated by wet process, in which the electrolyte of $8mol\%\;Y_2O_3-stabilized\;ZrO_2 (YSZ)$ was coated on the surface of anode support of Ni/YSA and then the cathode was coated. The cathode has two- or three- layered structure composed of $(La_{0.85}Sr_{0.15})_{0.9}MnO_{3-x}(LSM),\;LSM/YS$ composite (LY), and $La_{0.6}Sr_{0.4}Co_{0.2}Fe_{0.8}O_3{LSCF)$ with different thickness. Their single cells with different cathode structures were characterized by measuring the cell performance and ac impedance in the temperature range of 600 to $800^{\circ}C$ in humidified hydrogen with $3\%$ water and air. The cell with $LY\;9{\mu}m/LSM\;9{\mu}m/LSCF\;17{\mu}m$ showed best performance of $590mW/cm^2$, which was attributed to low polarization resistance due to LY and to low interfacial resistance due to LSCF.

  • The objective of this study is to prepare lead-free thick film resistor (TFR) paste compatible with AlN substrate for hybrid microelectronics. For this purpose, CaO-ZnO-$B_2O_3-Al_2O_3-SiO_2$ glass system was chosen as a sintering aid of $RuO_2$. The effects of the weight ratio of CaO to ZnO in glass composition, the glass content and the sintering temperature on the electrical properties of TFR were investigated. $RuO_2$ as a conductive and glass powder were dispersed in an organic binder to obtain printable paste and then thick-film was formed by screen printing, followed by sintering at the range between $750^{\circ}C$ and $900^{\circ}C$ for 10 min with a heating rate of $50^{\circ}C$/min in an ambient atmosphere. The addition of ZnO to glass composition and sintering at higher temperature resulted in increasing sheet resistance and decreasing temperature coefficient of resistance. Using $RuO_2$-based resistor paste containing 40 wt%glass of CaO-20.5%ZnO-25%$B_2O_3$-7%$Al_2O_3$-15%$SiO_2$ composition, it is possible to produce thick film resistor on AlN substrate with sheet resistance of $10.6\Omega/\spuare$ and the temperature coefficient of resistance of 702ppm/$^{\circ}C$ after sintering at $850^{\circ}C$.

  • The accelerated thermal aging of CSPE (chlorosulfonated polyethylene) was carried out for 40.41, 121.22, and 202.04 days at $100^{\circ}C$, which are equivalent to 20, 60, and 100years of aging at $50^{\circ}C$, respectively. The volume electrical resistivities of the accelerated thermally aged CSPE samples for 0, 40.41, 121.22, and 202.04 days were $1.107{\times}10^{14}-2.097{\times}10^{14}$, $7.752{\times}10^{13}-1.556{\times}10^{14}$, $7.693{\times}10^{13}-1.521{\times}10^{14}$, and $7.380{\times}10^{13}-1.304{\times}10^{14}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$, respectively, at room temperature. The permittivities of the accelerated thermally aged CSPE samples for 0, 40.41, 121.22, and 202.04 days were $2.89{\times}10^{-11}-3.65{\times}10^{-11}$, $3.40{\times}10^{-11}-3.70{\times}10^{-11}$, $3.50{\times}10^{-11}-3.82{\times}10^{-11}$, and $3.76{\times}10^{-11}-4.13{\times}10^{-11}$ F/m, respectively, at room temperature. The EAB (elongation at break) of the accelerated thermally aged CSPE samples for 0, 40.41, 121.22, and 202.04 days were 98.8-101.3, 59.5-60.3, 37.8-39.2, and 41.8-44.3%, respectively, at room temperature. The apparent densities of the accelerated thermally aged CSPE samples for 0, 40.41, 121.22, and 202.04 days were 1.603-1.614, 1.611-1.613, 1.622-1.628, and $1.618-1.620g/cm^3$, respectively, at room temperature. The measured currents of the accelerated thermally aged CSPE and the standard sample were almost constant after 5 min of applying a 300-V/mm electric field to the CSPE. The V-I slope of the accelerated thermally aged CSPE sample was increased if the applied electric field was increased at room temperature, and the V-I slope of the accelerated thermally aged CSPE was higher than that of standard CSPE.

  • Lipids of Liza carinata roe were extracted and separated into detailed lipid classes by column chromatography. About 57-62% of the total lipids consisted of wax esters in which saturated and unsaturated fatty alcohols combined with fatty acids with up to six double bonds. Between the even-numbered wax ester peaks in gas-liquid chromatography, ones with odd chain lengths such as C31, C33 and C35 were eluted in appreciable amounts. Isomers composed of different fatty acids and alcohols at a given chain length were not resolved on 1.5% OV-17 column. The principal component of wax esters in sample A were C32, C34 and C30 (45.0%, 19.2%, and 12.2%), followed by C36 and C38 length (9.5% and 4.7%), while those in sample B were mainly occupied by C34, C32 and C36 length (36.3%, 31.4% and 14.5%) with minor components C30 and C38 length (5.2%, and 3.4%). The wax esters were not a random combination of constituent fatty acids and alcohols. With increase in boiling temperature the wax esters increased slightly in viscosity over the unboiled, showing a tendency toward randomness, and finally were completely randomized at $360^{\circ}C$ for 40 minutes. The enzymes involved in wax ester biosynthesis seemed to have high selectivity for chain length of fatty acids and alcohols.

  • 0.935Ba$TiO_3$-0.065($Bi_{0.5}Na_{0.5}$)$TiO_3+xmol%MnO_2$ (BBNTM-x) ceramics with $0{\leq}x{\leq}0.05$ were fabricated with muffled sintering by a modified synthesis process. Their microstructure and enhanced positive temperature coefficient of resistivity (PTCR) characteristics were systematically investigated in order to obtain lead-free high TC PTCR thermistors. All specimens showed a perovskite structure with a tetragonal symmetry and no secondary phase was observed. Grain growth was achieved when the doped MnO2 was increased above 0.02 mol%. This is due to the effect of positive Mn ion doping as an acceptor compensating a Ba vacancy occurred by the higher donor dopant concentration of $Bi^{3+}$ ion. Especially, enhanced PTCR characteristics of the extremely low ${\rho}_{RT}$ of $9\;{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$, PTCR jump of $5.1{\times}10^3$, ${\alpha}$ of 15.5%/$^{\circ}C$ and high $T_C$ of $167^{\circ}C$ were achieved for the BBNTM-0.04 ceramics.

  • Transparent conducting oxides (TCOs) have wide range of application areas in transparent electrode for display devices, Transparent coating for solar energy heat mirrors, and electromagnetic wave shield. $SnO_2$ is intrinsically an n-type semiconductor due to oxygen deficiencies and has a high energy-band gap more than 3.5 eV. It is known as a transparent conducting oxide because of its low resistivity of $10^{-3}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$ and high transmittance over 90% in visible region. In this study, co-doping effects of Al and Y on the properties of $SnO_2$ were investigated. The addition of Y in $SnO_2$ was tried to create oxygen vacancies that increase the diffusivity of oxygen ions for the densification of $SnO_2$. The addition of Al was expected to increase the electron concentration. Once, we observed solubility limit of $SnO_2$ single-doped with Al and Y. $\{(x/2)Al_2O_3+(x/2)Y_2O_3\}-SnO_2$ was used for the source of Al and Y to prevent the evaporation of $Al_2O_3$ and for the charge compensation. And we observed the valence changes of aluminium oxide because generally reported of valence changes of aluminium oxide in Tin - Aluminium binary system. The electrical properties, solubility limit, densification and microstructure of $SnO_2$ co-doped with Al and Y will be discussed.
