  • The spin-lattice relaxation times, $T_1$, and spin-spin relaxation times, $T_2$, of the $^{27}Al$ and $^{87}Rb$ nuclei in $RbAl(CrO_4)_2{\cdot}2H_2O$ crystals were investigated. The presence of only one resonance line for the $^{27}Al$ nuclei indicates that the results in a dynamical averaging of the crystal electric field that produces a cubic symmetry field. The changes in the temperature dependence of $T_1$ are related to variations in the symmetry of the octahedra of water molecules surrounding $Al^+$ and $Rb^+$. The $T_1$ values for the $^{27}Al$ and $^{87}Rb$ nuclei are different due to differences in the local environments of these ions. We also compared these $^{27}Al$ and $^{87}Rb$ NMR results with those obtained for $RbAl(CrO_4)_2{\cdot}2H_2O$ crystals. The relaxation mechanisms of $RbAl(XO_4)_2{\cdot}nH_2O$ (X=Cr and S) crystals are characterized by completely different NMR behaviors.

  • [ $^{11}B$ ] nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) measurements were performed on the single crystals of $TbB_4$ to investigate local electronic structure and 4f spin dynamics. $^{11}B$ NMR spectrum, Knight shift, spin-lattice and spin-spin relaxation rates were measured down to 4K at 8T. $^{11}B$ NMR shift and linewidth are huge and strongly temperature dependent due to the 4f moments. In addition, both are proportional to magnetic susceptibility, indicating that the hyperfine field at the boron site originates from the 4f spins of Tb. Below $T_N$, the single broad resonance peak of $^{11}B$ NMR splits into several peaks reflecting the local magnetic fields due to antiferromagnetic spin arrangements. The longitudinal and the transverse relaxation rates, $1/T_1\;and\;1/T_2$, independent of temperature above $T_N$, decreases tremendously confirming huge suppression of spin fluctuation below $T_N$.

  • We used $^1H$ nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) to study the phase transitions and molecular dynamics in a characteristic ferroelectric liquid crystal with a carbon number n = 7, S-2-methylbutyl 4-n-heptyloxybiphenyl-4'-carboxylate (C7). The results were compared with those of our recent work on S-2-methylbutyl 4-n-octanoyloxybiphenyl-4'-carboxylate (C8), with a carbon number n = 8. While the recrystallization and isotropic phase transitions exhibited a first-order nature in the $^1H$ NMR spin-lattice and spin-spin relaxation measurements, a second-order nature was shown at the Sm-A - Sm-$C^*$ liquid crystalline phase transition. A soft-mode anomaly arising from the tilt angle amplitude fluctuation of the director, of which only a hint had been noticed in the C8 system, was manifested in the C7 system at this transition.

  • The phase transition temperatures of CsCoCl3·2H2O crystals are investigated via differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Three endothermic peaks at temperatures of 370 K (=TC1), 390 K (=TC2), and 416 K (=TC3) were observed for phase transitions from CsCoCl3·2H2O to CsCoCl3·1.5H2O, to CsCoCl3·H2O, and then to CsCoCl3·0.5H2O, respectively. In addition, the spin-lattice relaxation time T in the rotating frame and T1 in the laboratory frame as well as changes in chemical shifts for 1H and 133Cs near TC1 were found to be temperature dependent. Our analyses results indicated that the changes of chemical shifts, T, and T1 are associated with structural phase transitions near temperature TC1. The changes of chemical shifts, T, and T1 near TC1 were associated with structural phase transitions, owing to the changes in the symmetry of the structure formed of H2O and Cs+ ions. Consequently, the structural symmetry in CsCoCl3·2H2O crystals based on temperature is discussed by the environments of their H and Cs nuclei.

  • [ $^1H$ ] nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) experiments have been performed at 30 - 300 K and 7 T to investigate dynamics of hydrogen bond network in the single crystal $(NH_4)_3H(SO_4)_2$. The two proton sites, ammonium proton and hydrogen-bond proton, are identified from the $^1H$ NMR MAS spectrum at 340 K. As temperature decreases, the $^1H$ NMR spectrum shifts to the higher frequency side with a larger linewidth. The spectrum at 65 K shows a distinctive change in line shape toward the ferroelectric transition at 63 K. The measured values of $T_1$ for ammonium and hydrogen-bond protons are similar in the whole range of temperature. $T_1$ of $^1H$ NMR shows a gradual decrease down to 120 K and starts to steeply increase below 100 K. Then $T_1$ shows abrupt decrease below 70 K with a sharp minimum at 63 K, where the ferroelectric transition occurs. This temperature dependence of spectrum and $T_1$ clearly prove that the large change in the dynamics of hydrogen bond network is associated with the ferroelectric phase transition at 63 K.

  • The NMR spectrum and spin-lattice relaxation times, $T_1$, of the $^{1}H$ nuclei in $(NH_{4})_{2}Cd_{2}(SO_{4})_{3}$ single crystals were obtained. The two minima in $T_1$ in the paraelectric phase are attributed to the reorientational motions of the $NH_{4}^{+}$ groups. The $^{1}H\;T_1$ of the $(NH_{4})_{2}Cd_{2}(SO_{4})_{3}$ crystals can be described with Bloembergen- Purcell-Pound (BPP) theory. The experimental value of $T_1$ can be expressed in terms of an isotropic correlation time ${\tau}_H$ for molecular motions by using the BPP theory, and determine the role of protons in these processes.

  • The structural geometry of $[N(CH_3)_4]_2CdCl_4$ in a hexagonal phase is studied by $^1H$ MAS NMR, $^{13}C$ CP/MAS NMR, and $^{14}N$ NMR. The changes in the chemical shifts for $^{13}C$ and $^{14}N$ in the hexagonal phase are explained by the structural geometry. In addition, the temperature dependencies of the spin-lattice relaxation time in the rotating frame $T_{1{\rho}}$ for $^1H$ MAS NMR and $^{13}C$ CP/MAS NMR are measured.

  • $^1H$ nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) relaxations have been investigated in ammonium sulfate $((NH_4)_2SO_4)$ power at temperatures ranging form 102 K to 440 K. There is a bottleneck in the spin-lattice relaxation between the nuclear spin system and the hindered rotation of ammonium ions, which is certified by measuring the relaxation according to the initial condition of the spin system. For temperatures below 318 K the $^1H$ spin-lattice relaxations have double-exponential behaviors with the exponent, n, having a value 2>n>1 initially and n=l after a long time. Above 318 K not only is the relaxation exponential initially with exponent n=1, but it is a single-exponential over the entire time, resulting in one $T_1$ value. The two types of $NH_4^+$ ions have different activation energies for hindered rotation, $E_a^1=0.27{\pm}0.02eV$ and $E_a^11=0.12{\pm}0.0eV$, in the ferroelectric phase.

  • The mechanism of charge flow has been probed by measuring the $^{1}H$ chemical shift on a proton-irradiated ${KH_2}{PO_4}$ (KDP) single crystal. The proton irradiation caused the increase in $^{1}H$ chemical shift. It can be interpreted as the electronic charge transfer from the proton to oxygen atom, accompanied with the proton displacement along the hydrogen bond. For the high resolution $^{1}H$ chemical shift measurement, CRAMPS (Combined Rotation And Multiple Pulses) technique is utilized.
