  • We discuss the case of a 5-month-old male British Shorthair cat referred to our hospital following the detection of a heart murmur during a routine vaccination appointment. Two-dimensional echocardiography revealed a 1.18 mm ventricular septal defect (VSD) located immediately below the aortic valve, without signs of secondary cardiac remodeling. Given the absence of cardiac dysfunction, no treatment was administered, and the cat was periodically monitored over the next 2 years. Echocardiography at 29 months of age revealed no signs of the VSD. Future studies are needed to increase the evidence base for spontaneous VSD closure in small animals.

  • Using a base-point free version of the infinite symmetric product we define a fibrewise infinite symmetric product for any fibration $E\;\longrightarrow\;B$. The construction works for any commutative ring R with unit and is denoted by $R_f(E)\;l\ongrightarrow\;B$. For any pointed space B let $G_I(B)\;\longrightarrow\;B$ be the i-th Ganea fibration. Defining $M_R-cat(B):= inf{i\midR_f(G_i(B))\longrihghtarrow\;B$ admits a section} we obtain an approximation to the Lusternik-Schnirelmann category of B which satisfies .g.a product formula. In particular, if B is a 1-connected rational space of finite rational type, then $M_Q$-cat(B) coincides with the well-known (purely algebraically defined) M-category of B which in fact is equal to cat (B) by a result of K.Hess. All the constructions more generally apply to the Ganea category of maps.

  • The study was carried out to investigate the effects of morphology, reproductive cycle, incubation time and activation of oocytes on in vitro maturation of cat oocytes and development of IVM/IVF embryos. 1. When recovered from ovaries collected at different stages of the reproductive cycle (inactive, follicular and luteal stage), the developmental rates of oocytes to GV and MI stage were 72.5% and 27.5%, 57.5% and 7.5%, 62.5% and 17.5%, respectively. • The purpose of this paper is to investigate the demiclosed principle, the existence theorems and convergence theorems in CAT(0) spaces for a class of mappings which is essentially wider than that of asymptotically nonexpansive mappings. The structure of fixed point set of such mappings is also studied. Our results generalize, unify and extend several comparable results in the existing literature.

  • A 5-year-old intact female Persian cat was referred with anorexia and vomiting. Physical examination revealed icterus in the pinna, oral mucosa, and sclera. Ultrasonography revealed several findings including uniformly hyperechoic hepatic parenchyma compared to adjacent falciform fat, increased attenuation of the ultrasound beam, and poor visualization of intrahepatic vessel borders. Computed tomography revealed hypoattenuation of the hepatic parenchyma with a radiodensity value of -60 Hounsfield units. The adjacent intrahepatic vessels appeared hyperattenuated relative to the hepatic parenchyma as if the vessels were contrast-enhanced. Based on ultrasonography and computed tomography results, the cat was tentatively diagnosed as feline hepatic lipidosis.

  • A female Russian blue cat has invited Animal Hospital because of diarrhea after the mating. The eggs on internal parasite and Giardia sp. were diagnosed in the feces floating test, and treated with metronidazole, pyrantel pamoate and antibiotics. There were no diarrheal sign in the reevaluation, but anorexia, polydipsia, polyuria, and vaginal discharge was newly induced. Streptococcus sp. was inspected by smearing of vaginal discharge, and enlarge-ment of uterus was evaluated by x-ray examination. This case was confirmed as pyometra and recovered by ovariohysterectomy on the basis of that examination. The rate of incidence in feline pyometra is not so high as in the canine.

  • We extended a general attack tree to apply cyber attack model for network vulnerability analysis. We defined an extended cyber attack tree (E-CAT) which extends the general attack tree by associating each node of the tree with a transition of attack that could have contributed to the cyber attack. The E-CAT resolved the limitation that a general attack tree can not express complex and sophisticate attacks. Firstly, the Boolean expression can simply express attack scenario with symbols and codes. Secondary, An Attack Generation Probability is used to select attack method in an attack tree. A CONDITION-composition can express new and modified attack transition which a aeneral attack tree can not express. The E-CAT is possible to have attack's flexibility and improve attack success rate when it is applied to cyber attack model.

  • A 7-month-old intact female Persian cat was diagnosed with symblepharon accompanied by epiphora, brownish ocular discharge, and ocular discomfort in the left eye. Superficial keratectomy (SK) was performed to remove adhesions between the conjunctiva and cornea. To prevent re-adhesion after SK, the detached conjunctival tissue was sutured to the corneal limbus, and a soft contact lens (SCL) was inserted and a partial temporary tarsorrhaphy was performed. The SCL and tarsorrhaphy sutures were maintained for 22 days, and symblepharon did not recur 347 days postoperatively. SK combined with SCL is a relatively easy and cost-effective surgical option for feline symblepharon.

  • A 1-year-old spayed female Scottish Fold cat presented with a 1.5-month history of vomiting, intermittent dyspnea, and abdominal distention. Radiographic, ultrasonographic, and computed tomographic examinations suggested a tentative diagnosis of a fluid-containing cystic mass with an internal septum. The mass was surgically removed. Histological examinations revealed that the mass was a non-neoplastic hepatic cyst. The patient had no recurrence of the cystic structure but died of acute renal failure 5 years after the surgery. This report describes the unusual case of a giant hepatic cyst with clinical signs that resolved after mass removal.

  • A 6-year-old male domestic shorthair cat was referred to Gyeongsang National University Animal Medical Center for labored breathing. According to the patient's history, the client had fed him commercial dog foods. The patient's hematological, radiographic, and echocardiographic examinations were evaluated for diagnosis. Echocardiography results showed marked dilations of ventricles and atriums and mitral regurgitation. A systolic dysfunction was detected. Plasma taurine concentration was lower than the reference range. Based on these results, the patient was diagnosed with feline dilated cardiomyopathy associated with taurine deficiency. Treatment included feline commercial foods, taurine, digoxin, furosemide, and clopidogrel. Digoxin was changed to pimobendan when normal blood pressure was achieved. Clinical signs improved gradually and no abnormalities were detected on echocardiograms at 10 weeks following onset of treatment.
