  • To evaluate the effects of pulsed electric field (PEF) application on scalder and chiller water on Campylobacter contamination, four different treatments under three different water conditions including hard scalder water ($55^{\circ}C$), soft scalder water ($45^{\circ}C$) and chiller water, were applied as follows: i) a control treatment with no salt and no electric treatment, ii) a PEF only treatment, iii) a PEF treatment with 0.5% salt water, and iv) a PEF treatment with 1% salt water treatment. The use of PEF in hard scalding water showed an effect of reducing Campylobacter when compared to the control during the 200 s timeframe. With the addition of salt, the intervention caused at least 5.81 log CFU/ml reduction of Campylobacter counts after 200 s of PEF exposure. Similar effects were observed under soft scalding conditions. Campylobacter reductions were evident under chilling conditions with up to 2.00 log for PEF only, 5.77 log for PEF+0.5% salt and 2.69 log for PEF+1% salt treatment in water. Therefore, the current PEF setting for the scalder and chiller water can be successfully used to reduce pathogenic loads of Campylobacter on broiler chicken carcasses, and further research may be necessary to apply it in the poultry processing industry.

  • Absorption potential of desiccant solution significantly decreases after absorbing moisture from humid air, and a regeneration process requires a great amount of energy to recover absorption potential of desiccant solution. In an effort to develop an efficient solar water heater, this study examines a regeneration process using hot water obtained from solar water heater to recover absorption potential by evaporating moisture in the liquid desiccant. In this paper, a solar absorption dehumidifying system with solar water heater is suggested to save the electricity for operating an air conditioner. LiGl(lithium chloride) solution was adopted as a liquid desiccant in the proposed system, and hot water obtained from the solar water heater was used for regenerating the liquid desiccant. As a result, it was clear that the dilute LiCl solution could be regenerated by hot water, and the regeneration rate depends mostly on temperature level of liquid desiccant. The regeneration rates were about 2.4kg/h with $40^{\circ}C$, 4.0kg/h with $50^{\circ}C$, and 6.2kg/h with $60^{\circ}C$ of hot water respectively.

  • The water quality in Yongil Bay is getting worse due to the sewage and the waste water from the surrounding industrial complex. The study aims to simulate the current system that is necessary to build ecosystem model for the optium water quality control and clarify the correlation of current system characteristics with water quality in Yongil Bay. To clarify the characteristics of coastal water movement system and verify the applicability of the 3-D model, the current system was simulated using 3-D model baroclinic model which considers tidal current and density effects. As the results of numerical experiments, it is proved the 3-D model is the most applicable on appearing the current system of the stratificated Yongil Bay difference of density. Form the results of simulation considered tidal current only, it can be clarified that the water body flows in the inner bay through the bottom layer and flows out the outer bay through the surface layer in Yongil Bay. And the fresh water from the Hyongsan river and the thermal discharge form POSCO have a little effect on the current system in Yongil Bay, but the diffusion of heat and salt has an important effect upon the formation of the density stratification of the water quality distribution is closely related with the current structure characteristics as well as the tidal residual current system in Yongil Bay.

  • As the development of industry water quality of river is going to bad because of waste water of an industrial complex and general home agricultural chemicals exhaust of $SO_3$ and CO gas acid rain and so on. Corrosion damage of boiler factory equipment and so forth occur quickly due to using of the polluted water resulting in increasing leak accident. Especially working life of hot water boiler using the polluted water becomes more short and energy loss increases. The cathodic protection method is the most economical and reliable one to prevent corrosion damage of steel structures. Mg-base alloys galvanic anode protection of cathodic protection method is suitable for than application of hot water boiler using water with high specific resistance such as tap water. This paper is studied on the cathodic protection characteristics of how water boiler. In tap water and 0.001mol/$\ell$ NaCl solution the characteristics of anodic polarization of Mg-base alloys galvanic anode and tube material is investigated the measurement of cathodic protection potential according to the time elaspsed is carried out.

  • It is expected that the temperature in Pyeongyang will be similar to that ($16.6^{\circ}C$) in Seogwipo in the late 21st century, and most of South Korea will enter the subtropical climate due to climate change. Change in the precipitation pattern like the range of fluctuation caused by climate change will lead to expanded uncertainty in securing reliable water supply, along with a serious impact on demands for living and industrial water due to change in the volume and period of river outflow. As industrial water for production activities is estimated based on the contract quantity, it is difficult to apply rationalization of water usage and incentives in water recycling. Therefore many companies are making efforts in complying with the effluent standard while spending few resources on such rationalization and recycling. This study researched water risk management over 115 Korean companies by 28 questions in 4 categories. Through the research, this study aims to understand water risk management levels and seek response plans.

  • IInsulation material is generally used for preventing heat loss from heat transport fluids, and water absorption severely reduces the insulation property. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the amount of water absorption supplied by the pouring method and spraying method, to investigate the effects of water absorption on the thermal conductivity of an insulation material, and modeling the relation between water absorption and thermal conductivity. E-glass, a kind of glass fiber, and HYPERLITE, mainly composed of pearlite, are selected, to compare hygroscopic and insulation properties. E-glass is found to have much higher water absorptivity, compared to HYPERLITE. The thermal conductivity of the water-absorbed E-glass is increased by more than 150%, compared to that of no absorption, while variation of the thermal conductivity of HYPERLITE with water absorption is insignificant. A three-stage model of water absorption for thermal conductivity is developed, and the modeling results are found to be in good agreement with the experimental data.

  • A special concern is paid to the risks with which small-sized water resources systems are confronted in supplying water in the far future. Taking the Gwangdong dam reservoir as a case study, the authors seek to understand demand-side and supply-side disturbances of a reservoir, which, respectively, corresponds to effects of water demand changes on the intake amount and those of climate changes on the inflow amount. In result, it is demonstrated that both disturbances in the next 50 years are almost unpredictable. Yet the projection ranges, thought of as relatively reliable information that models offer, reveal that severity and period of water shortage is very likely to change. It is therefore concluded that water resources management requires more rigorous approaches to overcoming high uncertainties. The methods and models for projecting those disturbances are selected, based on practicality and applicability. Nevertheless, they show a large usefulness, especially in dealing with data shortage and reducing the needs for expensive modeling resources.

  • The performance of Rainfall-Runoff Forecasting System (RRFS), the watershed management model for the Geum river basin, is evaluated based on the agreement between the simulated and observed hydrographs and the behavioral characteristics of the flow-duration curves. As a result, the simulated hydrographs are well agreed with the observed ones except high flow discharges. It is inferred that most of the errors in the simulated hydrographs are due to the misestimation of agricultural water use in $2^{nd}$ quarter and the discrepancy of the peak discharges in $3^{rd}$ quarter. It is however judged that RRFS would give the reliable runoff hydrographs from the point of view of continuous model application. And simulated flow-duration curves and flow-duration coefficients are also similar to the observed ones except flood flow region. From the above result it is confirmed that the construction of Yongdam dam improves the state of flow-duration curve at the Gongjoo station.

  • Algae bloom occurred in reservoir in summer can cause taste and odor in water and disturb the flocculation and sedimentation processes in water treatment plant and cause sand filter plugging. It was also reported that microcystins, anatoxin and saxitoxin released from cyanobacteria had acute toxic effects on liver and nervous system. For these reasons, many advanced countries inclusive of WHO set the guideline for these toxins and cyanotoxins have been managed with regular monitoring in Korea as well. However, complex sample preparation steps such as a solid phase extraction (SPE) and derivatization are required with an existing analysis method with HPLC. We needed to improve an analysis method for low extraction efficiency and long sample preparation time. In this study, we have established a new LC/MS/MS method which can simultaneously determine 6 cyanotoxins (Microcystins-LR, Microcystins-RR, Microcystins-YR, Anatoxin-a, Saxitoxin, Neosaxitoxin) with only simple filtration step. When $75{\mu}L$ filterated sample was injected onto the LC-MS/MS, the recovery ranged from 86% to 112% and the MDL was $0.025{\sim}0.581{\mu}g/L$. We can make the MDL be lower than the guideline ($1{\sim}3{\mu}g/L$) of advanced countries with simple preparation.
