Quantum structures containing nanoparticles have attracted much attention because of their promising potential applications in electronic and optoelectronic devices operating at lower currents and higher temperatures. The quantum dot is a particle of matter so small that the addition or removal of an electron changes its properties in some useful way. The Quantum dots typically have dimensions measured in nanometers, where one nanometer is 10-9 meter or a millionth of a millimeter. The emission and absorption spectra corresponding to the energy band gap of the quantum dot is governed by quantum confinement principles in an infinite square well potential. The energy band gap increases with a decrease in size of the quantum dot. In this review paper, we will discuss the quantum dot and their application.

Recently, quantum-dots light emitting diodes (QLEDs) are considered as a next-generation display due to the superior luminescence behaviors, photo stability and narrow spectral emission bandwidth. Moreover, the emission color of QLEDs can be easily controlled by changing the dimension of quantum dots (QDs). A flexible display based on QLEDs can be achieved using low-cost solution process, such as a printing technology. Therefore, QLEDs are expected as a next generation display. In this document, recent progresses in QDs technology will be introduced.

Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) is a versatile and powerful technique that enables direct visualization of biological samples of sizes ranging from whole cell to near-atomic resolution details of a protein molecule. Thanks to numerous technical breakthroughs and monumental discoveries, 3D electron microscopy (3DEM) has become an indispensable tool in the field of structural biology. In particular, development of cryo-electron microscopy(cryo-EM) and computational image processing played pivotal role for the determination of 3D structures of complex biological systems at sub-molecular resolution. Here, basis of TEM and 3DEM will be introduced, especially focusing on technical advancements and practical applications. Also, future prospective of constantly evolving 3DEM field will be discussed, with an anticipation of great biological discoveries that were once considered impossible.
