Titanomagnetite ore bodies in the Yonchon iron mine are closely associated with alkali gabbroic rocks of middle Proterozoic age which intruded Precambrian metasedimentary rocks. The orebodies can be divided into massive ores in gabbroic rock, skarn ores in calcareous xenoliths and banded ores in gneissic gabbro. Gabbroic rocks from the Yonchon iron mine have unusually high content of $TiO_2$ with an average values of 3.46 wt%. Iron ores are ilmenite (42.25~51.56 wt% in $TiO_2$) and titanomagnetite (1.29~6.57 wt% in $TiO_2$) and the former is dominant Small amount of magnetite, hematite, sphene and sulfide minerals are included in the ores. Grandite garnet, titanoaugite and tschermakite are in iron skarn ores. Hornblendes from ores and gabbroic rocks have a relatively homogeneous isotopic composition with ${\delta}D$ between -110.0 and -133.9‰, and ${\delta}^{18}O$ of +4.5 to +6.5‰, and calculated to have formed in fluids with ${\delta}O_{H_2O}$ of + 6.7 to +8.7‰. and ${\delta}_{H_2O}$ of -87.9 to -111.8‰, which has a similar isotopic value of primary magmatic water. Based on intrusive age, occurrence, mineral chemistry and isotopic compositions of magnetite ores and gabroic rocks, it will be concluded that the gabbroic rocks are responsible for the titanomagnetite mineralization. The titaniferous magnetite melt was immiscibly separated from the high titaniferous gabbroic melts of Proterozoic age.

The Daehung and Pyeongan talc mines are located in the Yoogoo area, Chungcheongnam-Do. These deposits occur as the complex vein type in the ultramafic rocks which intruded Precambrian gneiss. The talc ore formed from sepentinitt: originated from ultramafic rocks but some of those from hornblende gneiss. The talcification processes were considered here on the basis of the mineral assemblages, paragenesis, and geochemistry. It appears that there are five processes in talcification ; serpentine$\rightarrow$talc, phlogopite$\rightarrow$chlorite$\rightarrow$talc, phlogopite$\rightarrow$talc, hornblende$\rightarrow$chlorite$\rightarrow$talc, and hornblende$\rightarrow$talc. Among them, the most dominant alteration path is serpentine to talc in these deposits. EPMA data suggest that there might be interstratified minerals were in between parent mineral and talc such as serpentine and talc, and phlogopite and talc. It can be found that tremolite exists in between the inner and outer most part of talcified serpentinite blocks coated with phlogopite. Some of tremolites has been altered to talc. The quartz veins and carbonate minerals were found in the talc ore zone. It indicates that the hydrothermal solution played an important role in talcification. The hydrothermal alteration occured after sepentinization. Ore zones can be divided into two zones; talc-serpentine zone preserving a pseudormorph of olivine (mesh texture) and talc-phlogopite zone showing talcification from phlogopite directly or through chlorite. It can be concluded that the formation of major talc ore body was due to talcification of serpentinite and phlogopite by hydrothermal solution. A nature of hydrothermal solution was relatively pure water at the beginning of serpentinization, and was getting richer in silica composition. There was a large amount influx of K and AI with hydrothermal solution in the later stage, and increased $P_{CO_{2}}$ also. It suggests that phlogopite formed in later stages as a secondary mineral. So, the major part of the talc ore body was formed from one parents rocks, serpentinite originated from ultramafic rocks, by hydrothermal solutions at several times.

경상분지 백악기 퇴적암류와 화산암류내 열극을 충진한 열수 맥상광체들로 구성된 삼산지역 동광상들은 구조운동에 수반되어 2회에 걸쳐 형성된 석영 및 방해석맥들로 구성된다. 변질대에 산출되는 견운모에 대한 K-Ar 연령은 약 82Ma로서, 지역주변에 암주상으로 산출되는 화강섬록암의 관입활동 등 후기 백악기 화성활동과 관련된 것임을 지시한다. 주 광화시기인 광화 I기 석영맥내에는 황철석, 유비철석, 황동석, 섬아연석, 방연석, 적철석 및 Pb-Bi-Ag-Sb계 유염광물등의 광석광물들이 녹렴석, 녹니석 등의 맥석광물들과 함께 산출되며, 광화 I기는 광물들의 산출조직과 공생관계 등에 의하여 3개의 substage (early, main, late)로 구분된다. 본역내 광상들에서의 주된 동광화작용은 약 12~3wt. % NaCl 상당 염농도를 갖는 광화유체로 부터 약 $330^{\circ}C$에서 약 $280^{\circ}C$ 에 걸쳐 진행되었으며, 초기 광화유체의 비등현상으로부터 ${\leq}100{\sim}200bar$의 광화작용시 압력이 확인된다. 주광화시기인 광화 I기중 광화유체의 ${\delta}^{34}S_{H_2S}$값이 초기 8‰에서 후기 2.3‰로 점차 감소함은 광화유체의 비등과 천수혼입에 수반되어 산소분압이 점진적으로 증가한 결과로 해석된다. 유체내 산소 및 수소 안정동위원소 연구결과, 이들 동위원소 값이 광화작용의 진행과 함께 점차 감소함은 상대적으로 낮은 water/rock 비값을 갖는 환경하에서 동위원소 교환반응을 이뤄 평행상태에 이른 광화초기 열수계내에 광화작용의 진행과 함께 산화상태의 차갑고 동위원소적 교환반응이 거의 이뤄지지 않은 천수의 혼입이 점증 하였음을 지시한다.

Jindong Granites are plotted mainly in the region of granodiorite~diorite of the Streckeisen's diagram, while Yucheon-Eonyang Granites and Onjonri Granites in the region of monzo-granite and monzo-granite~granodiorite, respectively. Jindong Granites show a differenciation trend of calc-alkaline magma, and its magmatic evolution from intermediate to acidic rocks, which might form mineralizing solution, is consistant with the general path of the Cretaceous granitic rocks including Yucheon-Eonyang Granites and Onjongri Granites. The differenciation index (D.I.) is 35~80 for Jindong Granites, which is lower than 85~95 of Yucheon-Eonyang Granites and is partly overlapped by 67~84 of Onjongri Granites. There is clear difference in content of some major and trace elements between Jindong Granites of Cu province and the other granitic rocks of Pb-Zn and Mo provinces. Between these metallogenic provicnes, Cu content is high in Jindong Granites near Haman-Gunbuk mineralized zone, while Pb and Zn are relatively abundant in Yucheon-Eonyang Granites and Mo in Onjongri Granites. Therefore, Jindong Granites of the Cu province are distinguishable by chemical compositions and their related geochemical characteristics from the other Cretaceous granitic rocks of Pb-Zn and Mo provinces. However, the content of Cu and Cl in biotite is applicable to distinguish a productive phase from a barren phase of Jindong Granites, because Cu and Cl show a trend to be concentrated in biotite of Jindong Gratites in the Haman-Gunbuk mineralized zone.

충남 예산군 및 청양군 일대에 분포하는 시대미상의 초염기성암의 기원을 규명하기 위하여 주성분, 미량성분 및 희토류원소(REE)의 전암분석의 결과를 이용하여 연구하였다. 전암분석결과에 의하면 주성분원소 중 $K_{2}O$와 $Na_{2}O$를 제외한 대부분의 원소들은 후기변질작용에 관계없이 일정한 상관관계를 보여주며, primitive 맨틀의 화학조성과 비교할 때 매우 낮은 $Al_{2}O_{3}$ (<1.5%), CaO (<1%), $TiO_{2}$의 값을 나타내며, 비슷한 Ni의 함량을 가진다. 이점으로 미루어 본역의 암석은 상당한 양의 부분용융 (large degree of partial melting)을 받은 맨틀의 잔여물(residues)로 사료된다. REE의 chondrite normalize value는 (La/Yb)c= 1.1-5.2, (Sm/Eu)c=0.6-1.5 및 (Sm/Yb)c= 1.2-1.6 (dunites=0.53-0.77)의 값을 나타낸다. 대부분의 초염기성암이 LREE가 빈화(depleted)된 $(LREE/HREE)_{c}$ < 1) 특징을 보이는데 반해 이 지역의 초염기성암들은 LREE가 약간 부화(enriched)된 ($(LREE/HREE)_{c}$ <1) REE pattern을 나타낸다. 또한, La-Sm-Yb의 ternary diagram을 살펴보면 이들은 chondrite 의 값과 유사한 primitive한 맨틀의 부분용융 후의 잔여물보다 상당히 La가 부화된 양상을 보이며, alkali basalt의 source가 되는 부화된 맨틀의 부분용융 후의 잔여물과 비슷한 화학조성을 나타내고 있다. 이와같은 현상은 사문암화와 같은 후기변질작용 (late stage alteration), pre-melting composition 이 LREE가 부화된 경우, 혹은 빈화된 mantle의 잔여물과 LREE가 부화되어 있는 어떤 component의 mixing에 의한 부화의 가능성 등을 생각해 보았다. 그 결과, 1) 본역의 암석들은 가장 덜 변질받은 암석들만 분석하였고, MgO와 FeO를 다른 oxides로 나눈값을 도시해본 결과 대부분의 oxide들이 매우 좋은 trend를 보여주므로 후기 변질작용에 의한 LREE의 부화가능성은 희박하다고 생각되며, 2) 본역의 암석을 alkali basalt의 source와 같은 LREE가 부화된 deep mantle source에서 부분용융 후의 잔여맨틀로 생각하기에는 이들이 지표 위로 나타날 수 있는 emplacement mechamism을 설명하기가 불가능하다. 따라서 이러한 점으로 마루어볼 때, 이 지역의 초염기성암의 LREE 부화는 두 가지 component의 mixing에 의한 가능성이 가장 높은것으로 사료된다. 상당한량의 부분용융을 받은, 즉 빈화된 맨틀과 LREE가 부화된 component의 mixing에 의하여 이와같이 LREE가 부화된 특성을 보여주고 있다고 사료된다. Component의 성분으로서는 고압에서 LREE를 많이 함유하는 $H_{2}O$나 $CO_{2}$-rich fluid, 혹은 부화된 맨틀의 low degree of partial melting에 의하여 LREE가 부화된 partial melt일 가능성이 높으며 이들이 올라오면서 빈화된 잔여맨틀과 mixing되면서 본역의 암석과 같이 LREE를 부화시켰다고 사료된다.

Petrochemical study on the micrographic granite distributed in the Wando area, the southernmost part of the Yeongdong-Kwangju depression is performed to investigate the petrogenesis and differentiation processes of the granitic magma. Polarized light microscopy for modal analyses, electron probe microanalyses of feldspars and biotite, inductively coupled plasma analyses for major and trace element contents were adopted in the study. The lithology of the study area consists of Precambrian metasediments, Mesozoic volcanic and sedimentary rocks, and micrographic granite which intrude into the former. The micrographic granite in the Wando area are distributed in the shape of a cauldron. Modal and nonnative mineral analyses of the micrographic granite fall in the area of granite and granodiorite. The chemical composition indicates that the micrographic granite is I-type and magnetite series. The micrographic granite is characterized by more than 90% of micrographic texture in volume percent. Feldspars in the micrographic granite is alkali feldspars (Or, 45~93) and plagioclases (albite to oligoclase). The biotite has a intermediate composition between phlogopite and annite solid solution. The results of the petrochemical studies indicate that the granitic magma of calc-alkaline source materials reactivated in a compressional environment at the continental margin, and then was differentiated by fractional crystallization. The micrographic granite intruded into a shallow level of the crust (5~7 km) in the late Cretaceous.

층상대지속에 있는 3차원 물체에 의한 지자기 지전류 (MT)응답을 계산하기 위하여 적분방정식을 이용한 수치모델링법을 개발하였다. 이 방법에서는 3차원 이상체를 몇 개의 세포로 분할하여 펄스기조함수로 근사할 수 있는 전류분포로 치환한다. 층상대지를 표현하는 전기 텐서그린함수를 쓰면 행렬방정식을 유도할 수 있으며 이를 각 세포의 벡터전류에 대하여 푼다. 결국 미지의 산란장은 산란전류에 관한 전기 및 자기 텐서그린함수를 적분함으로써 얻어진다. 지표면 근처에 3차원 전도성물체가 존재할 때 2차원의 TE모드 모델링으로는 깊은 곳에 가짜의 저 비저항을 가정해야 한다. 이는 TE모드 모델링에서는 경계면 전하의 영향을 고려할 수 없기 때문이다. 그러나 긴 3차원 직방체의 가운데를 가로지르는 단연은 2차원 TM모드 아르고리즘으로 정확히 모델화할 수 있으며, 이는 정식화과정에서 경계면 전하가 고려되어 있기 때문이다. 다중 주파수에 관한 수치계산 결과 겉보기 비저항과 위상은 상호보완적인 변수라는 것이 밝혀졌다. 따라서 이들 변수는 주파수영역 MT 해석시 함께 취급되는 것이 바람직하다.

This paper presents a technique to determine anisotropic elastic coefficients from traveltimes of seismic reflections or vertical seismic profiling (VSP) in tranversely isotropic layers whose thicknesses are known. The elastic coefficients are calculated from three different velocities (vertical, horizontal and skew velocities) which are determined from skew hyperbolic traveltimes by least-square fitting or semblance analysis. This interpretation technique is tested for synthetic traveltime data obtained for transversely isotropic models. The test shows that the anisotropic elastic constants of the models are determined accurately by this interpretation method.

Cheju Island was formed by volcanic activity probably related to the inferred geodynamics in the early Quaternary times. Paleostress analysis, in spite of a few fault slip data collected near Sanbangsan trachyte dome (dated 0.87 Ma) represents an extentional tectonic event with the direction ENE-WSW. Joint anayses in the vicinity of Seahwa reveal three extensional tectonic events of directions NW-SE, NE-SW and ENE-WSW. Especially the extensional event with the direction ENE-WSW affected the whole Cheju area during the most recent time.
