Objectives The purpose of this study was to compare between baseline and follow up data after 5 years about the change of Sasang constitutional value. Methods Cohort data of educational personnel in D University was used. Korean Sasang Constitutional Diagnostic Questionnaire was used to compare Sasang value including body shape, temperament, and pathological symptoms in baseline with those of follow up. Paired t test, chi-square test, correlation analysis and cohen's kappa coefficient was used. Results Total 150 subjects participated in this analysis. Taeeumin, Soeumin and Soyangin was 71, 46 and 33 respectively. Height decreased in follow-up, and weight increased, accordingly body mass index increased(p<.05). The score of nocturia was significantly increased, and the temperature of drinking water was significantly decreased. The consistency rate of the Sasang constitutional values in KS-15 between baseline and follow up was 76%, and the kappa value was 0.607. Compared to the expert's diagnosis, the agreement rate was 66.7% in baseline and 69.3% in follow up. Conclusion As times goes by, Sasang Constitutional phenotype, such as body mass index, nocturia, and temperature of drinking water, and accordingly, the predicted value of Sasang constitution may be changed. Those who use Sasang constitutional type and therapy in clinics should consider these factors.

Objectives We aimed to identify the incidence of metabolic syndrome (MetS) and its clustering components according to constitution type and lifestyle risk factors in Korean adults. Methods This study included 1,978 adults aged 30-55 years from the Korean Medicine Daejeon Citizen Cohort (KDCC) study. We defined lifestyle factors including smoking, alcohol consumption, physical activity, sleep, dietary quality, and weight status. Total lifestyle scores were created based on the six lifestyle factors (ranging from 0 to 5 factors) and classified into two groups: unhealthy (0-2 factors), or healthy (3-5 factors). Cox proportional hazard regression was used to estimate the hazard ratio (HR) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) of primary endpoints: MetS events and their clustering components. Results During a median follow-up of 2.2 years, we documented 125 new onsets of MetS. Compared with participants with healthy, the HR of unhealthy participants was 2.401 (95% CI: 1.497-3.851) for MetS incidence. After adjusting for covariates, TE type with unhealthy was higher HR values of abdominal obesity (HRs: 1.499, 95%CI: 1.061-2.117) and hypertension (HRs: 1.840, 95%CI: 1.032-3.277), respectively. Conclusion Unfavorable lifestyle factors were highly associated with the prevalence of MetS and its clustering such as abdominal obesity and hypertension in Korean adults with TE. Tailored health management is needed to consider individual traits and healthy lifestyles to prevent cardiometabolic diseases.

Objectives The purpose of this study was to compare sleep quality and chronotype by Sasang constitution and examine the relationship with nutritional status. Methods This study used 672 follow-up data from the Korean Medicine Daejeon Citizen Cohort study (KDCC). Demographic, Sasang constitution, sleep quality, chronotype, and nutritional status evaluation were conducted based on questionnaires. Multiple linear regression analysis was used to confirm the relationship between sleep quality and chronotype according to Sasang constitution and nutritional status. Results The relationship between sleep quality and chronotype by Sasang constitution and nutritional status is that Taeeum nutritional index is related to sleep quality (adj. B = -0.46, 95% CI = -0.79 ~ -0.12) and chronotype (adj. B = 0.38, 95% CI = 0.24 ~ 0.52), and Soeum and Soyang showed an association between nutritional indices only in chronotype (adj. B = 0.43, 95% CI = 0.23 ~ 0.63 in SE, adj. B = 0.55, 95% CI = 0.38 to 0.73 in SY). Conclusions This study confirmed the relationship between sleep quality and chronotype and healthy eating habits. For a balanced nutritional status, overall sleep management is necessary. Based on the results of this study, we intend to use it as basic data on the impact of the relationship between nutritional status and chronotype by Sasang constitution on health.

Objectives The aim was to develop a method for detecting Sasang constitution based on the ratio of facial landmarks and provide an objective and reliable tool for Sasang constitution classification. Methods Facial images, KS-15 scores, and certainty scores were collected from subjects identified by Korean Medicine Data Center. Facial ratio landmarks were detected, yielding 2279 facial ratio features. Tree-based models were trained to classify Sasang constitution, and Shapley Additive Explanations (SHAP) analysis was employed to identify important facial features. Additionally, Body Mass Index (BMI) and personality questionnaire were incorporated as supplementary information to enhance model performance. Results Using the Tree-based models, the accuracy for classifying Taeeum, Soeum, and Soyang constitutions was 81.90%, 90.49%, and 81.90% respectively. SHAP analysis revealed important facial features, while the inclusion of BMI and personality questionnaire improved model performance. This demonstrates that facial ratio-based Sasang constitution analysis yields effective and accurate classification results. Conclusions Facial ratio-based Sasang constitution analysis provides rapid and objective results compared to traditional methods. This approach holds promise for enhancing personalized medicine in Korean traditional medicine.

Objectives To report the improvements after applying modified Sibjeondaebo-tang and Hyangsayangwi-tang on Soeumin patient with dyspnea and arrhythmia as sequelae of aspiration pneumonia. Methods The 88-year-old female patient had the symptoms of dyspnea, sputum, cough, dysphagia, arrhythmia and general weakness after antibiotics for an aspiration pneumonia. Soeumin Sibjeondaebo-tang and Hyangsayangwi-tang were applied to treat these symptoms. Results The respiratory symptoms improved and the cardiac abnormalities, including arrhythmia showed improvement on the electrocardiogram and in cardiac-related biomarkers. Conclusions This case report suggests that Sasang constitutional herbal medicine could improve respiratory and cardiac symptoms as sequelae of aspiration pneumonia.

Objectives This case study was aimed to report improvement of Soyangin patient with non-syndromic hyperacusis using Hyeongbangsabaek-san. Methods A 57-year-old female patient had hyperacusis, tinnitus and headache. The patient was identified as Soyangin and treated with Sasang constitutional herbal medicine (Hyeongbangsabaek-san). Global assessment scale (GAS) was used to assess the improvements of symptoms. Results After treatment with Hyeongbangsabaek-san for 12 weeks, the GAS score of hyperacusis was reduced from 100 to 0. Conclusions This case study suggests the significance of Sasang constitutional medicine treatment for hyperacusis.

Objectives This case study was aimed to report improvement of taeum-in patient with chronic kidney disesase who had voiding dysfunction after intracerebral hemorrhage using Yeoldahanso-tanggamibang. Methods A patient who complained of voiding dysfunction after intracerebral hemorrhage was administered with Yeoldahanso-tanggamibang through sasang consitutional medicine approach. To evaluate the improvement of voiding dysfunction, the number of nelaton catheterizations after removal of foley catheter and the amount of post void residual volume were compared, and laboratory follow-up was performed to determine whether renal function deteriorated. Results After treatment with Yeoldahanso-tanggamibang for 8 weeks, the number of nelaton catheterizations after removal of foley catheter decreased, the amount of post void residual volume decreased, and the renal function did not change. Conclusions This case study suggests the significance of Yeoldahanso-tanggamibang treatment for taeum-in patient who had voiding dysfunction after intracerebral hemorrhage.
