Cleaning by injecting dry ice and water is a generally adopted trend these days to clean molds (injection, diecasting foundry, press, rubber mold, etc). This cleaning method is performed manually, or by installing multiple high pressure spray nozzles. We have manufactured a turbine cleaning module device that is able to clean diecasting modules at any position and angle in the space by mounting an articulated robot instead of the existing pipe type injection nozzle, to minimize lead time and enhance working yield of the cleaning process. In this paper, we analyzed process factors that are required to design the turbine module by reviewing number of revolution, and results according to different blade angles and thicknesses of the mold release injection turbine module, using computational fiuid dynamics (CFD).

Heat treatment for car body molds is mainly a manual process performed by a worker. The performance of this process is affected by workers' skill level, and has limitation in maintaining uniform product quality. In this study, we developed a diode laser heat treatment robot system that implements an OLP type simulator to overcome the limitation of manual process, and to improve and stabilize the quality level. In addition, we verified the efficiency of the robot system and mechanism stability from the early stage through design verification and simulated analysis in the development stage. In addition, we carried out a field test to study the way to establish optimized D/B for diode laser heat treatment criteria for car body molds, such as heat treatment speed, interval, etc. via site experiment.

The glass used for Mobile Camera Window is required to have high strength. Cell type manufacturing by means of CNC is widely used for camera window. Individual loading and unloading is needed for each process, such as painting and PVD, in cell type manufacturing. The purpose of this study is to search the enhanced manufacturing process with sheet type throughout bulk unit production in painting and PVD. This study includes sheet type manufacturing processes such as laser cutting, wet etching, 2nd tempering, printing, and AF/AR coating.

Processing of low toughness graphite material requires high-speed machine tools and DLC coating. In this study, results of investigation of the tool wear and machining properties of the DLC coating according to the thickness, and the machining time of the tool used for the machining of graphite electrodes, were as follows. 1. DLC coating thickness shows a larger wear amount of the tool center in accordance with thickness; the wear amount of the tool increases in proportion to the machining time. 2. The difference between the amount of wear depending on the processing time shows edge portions larger than the tool wear amount in the center. This amount of wear of the tool edge is formed since the rotating torque is in contact with the graphite material surface significantly more than the central portion. 3. The thicker the DLC coating, the more the coating tool eliminated of the coating area by the interface between the cemented carbide tool being coated with an increased friction of the graphite material and the DLC coating area.

This paper introduces a resistance scanning-type flexible tactile sensor for intelligent robots and presents the output characteristics of the sensor via signal processing. The sensor was produced via the lamination method using multi-walled carbon nanotubes (a conductive material), an insulator, and Tango-plus (an elastic material). Analog and digital signal processing boards were produced to analyze the output signal of the sensor. The analog signal processing board was made up of an integrator and an amplifier for signal stability, and the digital signal processing board was made up of an IIR filter for noise removal. Finally, the sensor output for the contact force was confirmed through experiments.

In this paper, research on the mold design of motor housing produced by the HPDC process was conducted using computer simulations and experiments. Recently, automobile parts have been required to be light and have high strength. The die casting process was used to manufacture automotive motor housings. In the die casting process, the control of casting defects is very important. However, it has usually depended on the experience of the foundry engineer. For the analysis of the manufacturing process of motor housing, the finite element method is applied. Through the simulations using commercial software, the filling pattern and product defects could be confirmed. The analysis results obtained from the filling behavior of the casting process agreed with the experimental results. The computer simulation results of filling behavior were reflected in the optimal mold design of motor housing.

In this study, the multi-disk of a high-pressure drop control valve is designed and manufactured. Then, the flow rate and high-pressure drop of fluids flowing in the high-pressure drop control valve is CAE/CFD. This study involves numerical analysis for the Zambil offshore project of a high-pressure drop control valve. ANSYS used a solver for offshore structures analysis. A high-pressure drop control valve, which transforms the power transfer of a system by reducing the inlet pressure of 345bar to the outlet pressure of 112bar, is a fundamental component in the offshore process. This study not only analyzes the relation between pressure drop and fluid velocity in a trim by using fluid analysis, but also examines the possibility of cavitation in a valve in addition to the plot for the extension of lifespan. It is demonstrated that the pressure drop from 345bar to 112bar is more feasible in the presence of the trim, which can induce a continuous and diminutive pressure drop in order to prevent cavitation in a high-pressure drop control valve.

Recently, it has been emphasized that more girls should be able to contribute to society in the engineering field. However, there is little research for understanding the psychological characteristics of female engineering students. We first must understand their capabilities in order to take advantage of the strengths of female engineering college students. Based on this understanding, it is necessary to provide future educational interventions for them. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate the gender differences in creativity in engineering education. Additionally, we wanted to know whether the differences were domain-specific or domain-general differences. For this, we targeted 351 engineering students in Busan and Daegu. An integrated creativity test and engineering creativity test were carried out. It was found that female engineering students had lower scores on both the integrated creativity and engineering creativity tests than male students. These results suggest that we should develop and apply appropriate strategies to enhance the creativity of female students in engineering education.

The compressor is used for many fields not only in the industrial sector, but also as a general household product. The energy consumption required for the compressor operation is very large. The reciprocation compressor is widely used as an air compressor. Regarding the reciprocating air compressor, the discharge of the gas compacted by the method of compressing the gas by using the oscillation of the piston is generated by the piston reciprocation 1 church 1 number. When compressing after compressing the air by the oscillation of the piston, the marine reciprocating air compressor is the vibration generated in the compressor and surrounding structure due to the energy of the generated inertia. If the effect of these harmful elements can be reduced, it supports the service of the vessel. In addition, accidents generated by the noise of the vibration can be prevented. Therefore, in this research, firstly, the structural analysis of the piston part was performed, the safety factor in all results was drawn based upon this, and the reliability of the interpretation was examined in order to create the optimal design for the air compressor.

In the present work, a series of numerical calculations have been conducted on the cooling of a hot surface using an air/water mist jet. In some cooling processes, such as in the glass-tempering process, direct contact between the cold water drops and the hot surface should be avoided, because this may cause surface cracks due to the sharp temperature gradients. Thus, the main focus of this study is finding the appropriate operating conditions for maximum cooling without direct contact between the drops and the surface. A series of numerical experiments have been performed, and, at the same time, those results were compared with those of the previous experiments for verification purposes. The effects of droplet impinging velocity, hot plate temperature, and liquid loading ratio for mono-dispersed drops of various sizes were studied in detail.

Nowadays, flat-shaped cover glass is widely used for mobile devices. However, for its good design and convenience of use, curved cover glass has been demanded. Thus, many companies have tried to produce curved cover glass through the shaving technique, but the production efficiency is very low. Therefore, the molding technique has been adopted to increase the efficiency for the curved-glass production system. For a glass-molding system, several heating blocks are installed, and the flat cover glass is sequentially heated and molded. The production time for the cover glass is very different depending on the heating conditions; thus, the prediction of the production time for different heating conditions should be needed. Therefore, in this study, the computations were performed with different heating conditions (uniform and non-uniform) in the present cover glass-molding machine. For uniform and non-uniform heating conditions, the simple correlation between the heating time and the heater capacity and the heating time to achieve higher durability can be suggested, respectively.

In this paper, the finite element method was used for the flow and strength analysis of aluminum alloy under friction stir welding. The simulations were carried out using Sysweld s/w, and the modeling of the sheet was executed using Unigraphics NX6 s/w. The welding variables for the analysis were the shoulder diameter, rotating speed, and welding speed of the tool. Additionally, a three-way factorial design method was applied to confirm the effect of the welding variables on the flow and strength analysis with variance analysis. From these results, the rotating speed had the greatest influence on the maximum temperature, and the maximum temperature was $578.84{\pm}12.72$ at a confidence interval of 99%. The greater the rotating speed and shoulder diameter, the greater the difference between maximum and minimum temperature. Furthermore, the shoulder diameter had the largest influence on von Mises stress, and the von Mises stress was $184.54{\pm}12.62$ at a confidence interval of 99%. In addition to the increased shoulder diameter, welding speed, and rotating speed of the tool increased the von Mises stress.

The thickness of adsorbed molecular layers is the most critical factor in studying thin-film lubrication, and it is the most essential parameter that distinguishes thin-film from thick-film lubrication analysis. The thin film between the shaft and bearing surface within a very narrow gap was considered. The general Reynolds equation has been derived for calculating thin-film lubrication parameters affecting the performance of the circular journal bearing. Investigation of the load-carrying capacity and pressure distribution for the journal bearing considering the adsorbed layer thickness has been carried out. A Reynolds equation appropriate for the journal bearing is used in this paper for the analysis, and it is discussed using the finite difference method of the central difference scheme. The parameters, such as eccentricity and attitude angle, are used for discussing the load-carrying capacity of the journal bearing. The results reported in this paper should be applied to analysis of the journal bearing with different lubrication factors. The steady-state analysis of the journal bearing is conducted using the Reynolds model under thin-film lubrication conditions. For a journal bearing, several parameters, such as a pressure, load capacity, and pressure components of the bearing can be obtained, and these results can be stored in a sequential data file for later analysis. Finally, their distribution can be displayed and analyzed easily by using the MATLAB GUI technique. The load-carrying capability of the journal bearing is observed for the specified operating conditions. This work could be helpful for the understanding and research of the mechanism of thin-film lubrication.

This study regards distributions of flow in the ventilation system used in the kitchen hood in a ship. In this study, for describing the flow in the ventilation system, three-dimensional steady-state turbulence was assumed for the governing equation. When the plume was formed, three gases, CO, CO2, and HCL, in the flow field of the hood were considered as the plume, and it was assumed that the sum of concentrations of the gases was 100%. As a result, it could be confirmed that the plume was smoothly discharged when the flow rate of the supply was ten times lower than that of the exhaust.

In this paper, we study the optimal design for improved rotation latch system performance. The factors affecting the Torque generated in the armature were chosen as design variables. Utilizing the vertical matrix, the orthogonal array table was created to predict the results through minimal analysis. To confirm the Torque generation amount, by utilizing the commercial electromagnetic analysis software MAXWELL, finite element analysis was performed. The approximation method and experimental design through the commercial PIDO tool PIAnO for optimal design and calculations were utilized to perform experiments using an optimization method with evolutionary algorithms. Using the approximation model, design factors were determined that can maximize the torque generated in the armature, and the simulation was performed.

Increased productivity and cost reduction have emerged as the main goals of the industry due to the development of the machinery industry, and mechanical materials with excellent properties with the development of the machine tool industry are widely used in machine parts or structures. In addition, the cutting process of production plays a pivotal role in the production technology. Studies on cutting have involved a lot of research on the material, the cutting tool, the processing conditions, and numerical analysis. Due to the development of the computer through numerical analysis, cutting conditions, the assessment of cutting performance, and cutting quality could be predicted. This research uses the creation of the material model and AdvantEdge Production module for the NC code analysis. To improve the productivity, this research employs the optimization method to reduce cutting time.

The technical development of electric vehicles has been actively proceeding because of the reduction of oil resources and need for eco-friendly vehicle technology. In particular, an electronic control unit is an important element in the technology of electric vehicles due to the motor drive system. This paper concerns an experimental study on the thermal analysis of the steering control ECU structure for an electric vehicle. The ECU unit is designed for eight heat sinks for the thermal analysis of the ECU structure. The thermal analysis characteristics of the ECU structure are evaluated by the temperature distribution, heat flow, von Mises stress, total translation, and external surface temperature measurement of the ECU unit.

This research aims to increase the reliability and reproducibility of the ambient cycling test by properly making corrections to the test procedure. The vessel (106 L) is initially filled with 70 L of water and horizontally placed on a balance. The pressure range inside the vessel varies from 2.5 to 25.9 MPa at the frequency of 6 cycles per minute. After reviewing the results, there was a temperature difference of approximately $10^{\circ}C$ between the air pocket and the water, and the upper part of the liner faced a repeated temperature change of $40^{\circ}C$. It is possible for the aluminum liner of the composite vessel to be damaged by such a sharp change in temperature. Additionally, as a result, no pass having anything to do with the purpose of the test would occur. Therefore, it is suggested that the air pocket be completely removed.

Recently, there has been demand for polymeric porous membranes in various fields, such as environmental engineering, pharmaceutics, tissue engineering, drug delivery, biology, and fuel cells. In this study, it is proposed that a polymer particle-based porous membrane can be fabricated using electrospraying and sintering processes. Electrospraying can fabricate polymeric particles with diameters ranging from several micrometers to tens of nanometers without the cumbersome particle aggregation problem. Additionally, the particles can be sintered through thermo-compression under the glass transition temperature. In this study, a polymethyl methacrylate particle-based porous membrane with an average pore size of less than 500 nm is fabricated using the proposed method.

A control program of an engine control module (ECM) was developed, and its control performance was verified on a 750Ps marine diesel engine. The control method was designed for an engine rotational speed control system. For ECM hardware, the commercial rapid control prototype (RCP) ECM was used. The programming tool for control algorithm development was the MatLab/Simulink. The main control algorithm assembled many control models as engine cranking, run, and stall. Each model has sub-models to input/output control signals. The target engine speed was input signal from a speed control lever, and control output signal of the ECM was sent to the unit-injectors for fuel injection. The engine test was performed under various conditions of engine rotational speeds and dynamometer loads. The test results show that the control function of the ECM is suitable for electrical marine diesel engines.
