To solve the traffic problems increased in the big cities, a lot of local transportation authorities are taking into account the New Transit system. But most of projects are pending due to the financial and technical issues. New Transit system has various kinds of characteristics in the view of system technology and operational features. The introduction of PRT system into the Korean market can be investigated through the comparison with other new transit modes.

Development of the personal rapid transit system is reviewed from its invention stage to its current development stage in the world. Also, the special features of each PRT system and the reasons of delay of PRT application in cities are described briefly.

Park and Ride(P&R) system has not implemented it's intended object in Seoul metropolitan area, still less it didn't impact on diminishing the ridership of urban railway. This paper is focused on analysis of Park and Rail ride user survey of travel behavior and trip chain. We propose the ideal location of P&R in Seoul and stratagies to increase the utilization of P&R.

Trade between Korea and China was 372million dollars accounting for 1.56% of total in 1988 and has been increased to 23,689 million dollars occupying 7% in 1997, which implies 32.2% increase on average per year. This trend will continue dramatically and consistently as China's open policy toward the world accelerates and korean companies advance into chinese market. The main trade routes are with marine transportation between korean west sea area and chinese San-Dong peninsula around east sea. However, due to the increasing traffic congestion on main roads connecting harbors and main consumer cities and capacity problem in west sea harbor areas, the logistics cost have been increased resulting in losing competitiveness of freight trade. Therefore, these road-oriented inland transportation means need to be changed to rail transport system to reduce congestion and to conserve natural environment. To achieve this scheme, efficient intermodal transportation system connecting road and rail should be constructed. These combined system will ensure timely delivery of goods and consequently the customers would make proper transportation schedule for the import/export goods in advance. Especially, combined transportation of Railroad and train ferry would cope with the logistics problem and this system would be efficient means for trade with not only China but further with many adjacent countries in central asia such as Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan

As the Korea construction market has recent3y opened, the needs to restructure the design standard for the technical advancement in design is increasing. Therefore, we proposed the design standard of railway according to the direction, which is presented in this study that analyze the present situation of the previous design standard. The new design standard of railway was tried to definite a limit in each service stage. This design standard will improve the design quality and induce the accumulation of technology. In addition, it will solve the organic contradiction of construction service. As a result, this research will bring the improvement in the design standard and contribute to the development of Korea construction industry.

Generally, bogie frame for EMU consists of side frame, crossbeam and transom. Among the main frame structure which has been produced in our company, crossbeam and transom have been made of circular shaped tube. In this un, welding process between circular crossbeam and circular transom is complicated and takes much time. To improve this problem, new rectangular tube shaped transom is adopted. In this paper, the processes and results of finite element analysis are described, which was carried out to evaluate the strength of new bogie frame according to UIC, JIS, KS code. FEA results show that the new bogie frame has sufficient static and fatigue strength. Comparing the FEA results with load test results should follow and further study for evaluating the fatigue strength will be pursued in future.

When high speed train meets sidewind, folwfields around the train is very complex. In this case, the force by sidewind has a bad effect on stability of train. We can observe that the flow separates, reattaches, and forms all unsteady vortex in the wake region behind tile structure. Such folwfield can be analyzed by
$\kappa$ -$\omega$ SST model, and we investigate the effect for various section shape of high speed train. So we acquire the result that as tile corner of train section is rounder, stability of train is better. -
본 연구의 목적은 구체 경량화의 일환으로써, 복합재료(3-X Board, Al extrusion panel, etc) 사용에 대한 가능성을 판단하기 위한 기초자료를 구축하는데 있다. 해석 대상은 2층 기차의 객차부분이고, 구체에 적용하는 복합재료는 3-X Board를 이용하였다. 구체의 구조 건전성을 평가하기 위해 상용 유한요소 프로그램을 이용하여 다양한 하중 하에서의 응력해석을 수행하였다. 구체에 사용되는 복합재료(3-X board)의 응력발생 경향을 파악하는 것이 목적이므로, 상세한 모델보다는 단순화한 모델을 이용하였다. 응력집중은 센터실(center sill), 1층 바닥과 측면과의 연결부, 그리고, 구체의 앞부분 창문 모서리에서 발생하였다. 압축 및 수직하중 하에서의 응력값들은 재료의 항복강도 내에 존재하였으나, 고유진동수는 제한 값보다 낮은 값을 갖았다. 현재 상세 모델에 대한 해석을 수행 중에 있다. 본 연구는 복합재료(3-X board)가 적용된 구체에 대한 초기 연구로써 만족할 만한 결과를 제시한다.

This study is about design of vehicle for air tightness to pressure waves of high speed train. When the train runs to high speed over 300km/h, the comfort of passenger come down due to difference pressure between inside and outside of passenger room. The car-body was carried out the design of air-tightness, and the analysis of inside pressure of vehicle in tunnel by TG_TUN of ALSTOM Co. The result of analysis should be used the design of air pressurized system and car-body of G7 high speed train project.

Because a driver is located in the front end of KHST, he is most likely to be insured at collision accidents. So, it is very important to design some survival space for the driver. To evaluate the driver's safety of KHST (Korean High Speed Train), the front structure of power car is analysed using PAMCRASH under the SNCF accident scenario(collision against a movable rigid mass 15 ton at 110㎞/h). Because the driver's cab of KHST is a modified version of TGV-K, which is not so strong as to protect him, it turns out to be inadequate to guarantee his survival space. Therefore it is recommended to redesign the driver's cab in a crashworthy point of view like the case of TGV-Duplex or NEC.

The object of the study is to propose the control method of FSB(full service brake) for the standard EMU. Recently, the variable control function was applied to train by introducing the TCMS. When the vehicle in the train fails, the emergency brake of the train should be automatically operated. In case of VVVF EMU operated by the TCMS, the FSB is applied to the train for safety instead of emergency brake. When the FSB is applied to train regardless of its weight and the numbers, the train safety operation may not be obstained. Therefore, the FSB force which considers its weight and numbers should be applied to the train. This paper describes the blending brake control for standard EMU. The control algorithm of the FSB is proposed and its simulation was carried out by using MATLAB.

Experimental study is conducted to clarify the pneumatic characteristics of brake system for freight car. KNR(Korean National Railroad)'s freight cars have the laden-tare type control valve of brake system. But, laden-tare type control valve has some shortcomings to match the high speed freight car. Newly developed diaphragm type control valve is introduced to adopt freight car for speed-up. The test using the formated train set consisted of 21 cars is conducted to estimate the pneumatic braking efficiency of the mixed train set. From the results of experiment, the pressure characteristics of each brake cylinder show similar patterns qualitatively. But, in the case of release and brake application, quantitative pressure values of brake cylinder are different.

A case of the axle gear box which was one of tile power transmission components of high speed train was supported by the bearings installed in axle and the reaction arm connected in bogie frame. Structural analyses of this case were executed for investigation the application of aluminum for weight reduction. The evaluations of the material strength, the thermal strength and deformation, and the stability of natural vibration were carried out according to computer simulation. It was found out that the steel case was safe from the structural failure. For the aluminum case, there was no worry about the vibration resonance and the static failure, but some efforts to reduce tile deformation of the bearing mounting part.

The axle spring is used in primary suspension component of railway vehicles. The most important factor of axle spring is to have adequate spring constant for comfortable feeling of ride. The non-linear properties of rubber which were important parameter to evaluate of rubber components, were determined by the characteristic test. The finite element analysis of the axle spring are executed to predict the behavior of deformation and stiffness by using commercial FEA code.

This paper deals with dynamic characteristics of automated guideway transit vehicle with rubber tires. Several models for guideway system of LRT(Light Rail Transit) have been Proposed because of the necessity of guideway system for LRT with rubber tires on exclusive rail unlike steel tires. Here, steering system and bogie system are investigated to compare with dynamic characteristics. On selecting guideway system, the way of vehicle operation should be considered and simultaneously the dynamic characteristics of the vehicle must be evaluated with respect to each guideway. The results show that stability is essential for vehicle with steering system, and that single-axle bogie system gives the good stability, though it is necessary to reduce the guide-wheel force

The vibration signals of driving parts of electric train are distorted its signal patterns due to the impact components, which occurs when wheel passes rail joints. An elimination method of the impact components is investigated using adaptive signal processing technique in this study. The result shows that adaptive interference canceling method seems to be more effective than line enhancement technique. The application of adaptive interference canceling method to the signal measured at bogie shows that the extractions of the signals of driving parts of traction motor, reduction gear, and axle bearing are successful. Therefore, only the signals of bogie, which is the place to attach an accelerometer easily, is sufficient for the fault diagnosis and the safety evaluation of electric train. Also, adaptive interference canceling method can be applicable to evaluate the performance of vibration isolation between bogie and car body and to investigate the characteristics of indoor sound.

In this study, we developed the simulation program of an overhead catenary-pantograph system, The overhead catenary is modeled with point mass and the pantograph is replaced with 3 d. o. f. model which is composed of mass, spring and damper. Using the developed program, we analyzed the static structure of the overhead catenary and the dynamic characteristics of an overhead catenary-pantograph system such as uplift displacement of contact wire and contact force. we compared the analysis results with the results of GASENDO software developed at RTRI in Japan. The behaviors of uplift displacement of contact wire and contact force were similar with the results of GASENDO software.

In this paper, running performance analyses of an articulated light rail vehicle are carried out using VAMPIRE software package. The stability analysis to determine the critical speed and the safety analysis such as derailment coefficients, lateral forces of wheels and reduction of wheel load are carried for the track conditions of straight, transition and curving range to the operating velocity of 40km/h. Also, ride quality is analyzed. As the results of analysis, the safety of light rail vehicle satisfied with the limit values and the ride quality for tare and full load condition was shown to the "not uncomfortable" level in ISO 2631-1 (1997) criteria.

This study was performed to evaluate the whole-vibration of the subway drivers. Measurement, evaluation and assessment were based on the ISO 2631. When the vibration levels of the drivers are compared with the health guidance caution zones of the ISO 2631, those of the drivers of the rail maintenance train and the number 3 subway line exceed the limit of the health guidance zones, while those of the drivers of other subway lines drivers are below the limit. This indicates that the rail maintenance train drivers are exposed to potential health risks.

Dynamic characteristics of pantograph-catenary system that supplies electrical power to high-speed trains are investigated. A simple catenary is composed of the contact and messenger wires connected by hamgers possessing bi-directional stiffness properties. The influences of parameters that determine the contact properties of pantograph-catenary system are investigated through numerical simulations. For the catenary, a finite difference model composed of 10 spans is constructed. The contact and messenger wires are modeled as strings with respective tension and damping ratio values. The pantograph is modeled as a linear 3-degree-of-freedom system. It is found that the tension, number of hangers and damping ratios as well as the speed of the train significantly influence the contact forces and contact separation rate

This paper deals with a method to predict the noise level inside metro electric cars running a single-line tunnel at the speed of 80km per hour using ray tracing method, a kind of ray acoustics generally used for a high-frequency and air-born noise analysis. The interior of the car including a under-frame, seats, side doors, end doors, door-pockets, side panels, end panel, a roof panel and so on is modeled. And in order to describe the noise power coming inside, artificial noise sources are designated using sound transmission loss data of each section measured from simple tests and external noise level. The noise level inside the car is calculated and its properties are investigated. The results satisfy the criteria on noise level inside the car.

In this study, we have analyzed the running performance of Mugungwha coach in curves to grasp the problems relating to this coach's curving performance and present improvement plans. Simulations and tests to analyze curving performances are carried out, and through this Process we could prepare a plan to improve the running performance in operation.

The purpose of this research is to setup the design procedure of low noise rolling stocks. Noise sources are identified at a field test, and the contribution of noise sources to each part of car interior is ensured by sound intensity measurement technique. Added material to each section of the carbody makes it possible to identify absorption or reflection performance of each part to the anterior random noise. Such experimental tests to the exterior noise intruding through the floor represent that the best countermeasure on the floor is to implement reflecting material which can properly interfere noise. Design procedure of low noise rolling stocks is set through several experiments.

This paper presents spectrum analysis technique to identify abnormal noise produced in diesel railcars. Coherence and coherent power spectrum are very useful in determining source identifications. Experiments are applied to two different cars with similar phenomena about the case of stop and running condition. Metal contact in mounting bracket part which is excited by excessive transmission vibration is found to cause abnormal noise.

Speed-up and mass reduction of EMU(Electrical multiple unit) causes increase of interior noise. One of the best ways to reduce the interior noise is to identify noise sources. In this study, we evaluated interior noise by contribution analysis. This method is to predict the interior noise contribution of carbody by using transfer function between acceleration and sound pressure. The plan of the interior noise reduction based on the test results was also presented.

A composition brake shoe composed of iron, graphite, kevlar, barium sulphate, etc. was developed for Diesel locomotives. The density distribution of the shoe depends on groove shapes of the shoe (or punch shape). In this study, we investigated the influence of the punch shape on the density distribution, stresses, etc. The inclination of the groove exerts more influence on the density distribution than the groove filet radius.

The standardization urban transit project has been started by government and the Korean standard electrical railcar has been designed. The bodyshell of standard railcar is made of aluminium alloy. In the present paper, the design of its bodyshell is evaluated in the viewpoint of strength analysis. The loading condition is based on the 'Test Methods of Static Load for Body Structure of Electrical Multiple Unit', standard specification. The bodyshell of Korean standard EMU consist of longitudinal extrusion members which are double-skin structure type. For the purpose of security and lightening we decided the section of the aluminium carbody through the size optimization in this paper Hereafter this paper will contribute to the shape optimization.

A study on the static type simulator will include an instructor's station, two cabs for ISA with visual and sound system, and realistic and accurate model of the trains operation. The simulator is easy to extend and maintenance using structured the S/W. The training of new drives requires that the environment of the cab, controls placement, etc. must highly realistic so that driver can readily transfer his training experience to the real world. The simulator detailed software model and extensive scenario design capability allows both for a wide variety of scenarios and accurately modeled response covering most aspects of brakes, rules, and faults.

This paper is mainly concerned with the development of the ATO(Automatic Train Operation) profile on precision stop controller. The ATO system is used for automatic or driverless operation of a train. In this paper, the algorithm for ATO controller is presented and three speed profiles on precision stop controller are compared. One profile is based on the maximum jerk control, another on the constant control input, and the third on the optimal control for the minimum energy consumption. These profiles are simulated and analyzed in view of the stop time, control input, jerk, propulsion and braking.

This paper is intended to provide a method to design control software for the TCMS, train control and monitoring system. The TCMS with this control software will be applied KOREA Standard EMU. The control software is designed by SCADE Case tool to concern safety and reliability. The function for the EMU is implemented in software easily programmed, using a functional block, graphic programming language. The control software has modular design and each module is tested with SCADE simulator. This time we focus a door control module, present a design method and a simulation method for that module.

This paper is mainly concerned with the development of the ATO(Automatic Train Operation) System. The ATO system is used for automatic or driverless operation of a train using various informations from TCMS, ATC, TWC. In this paper, the general architecture of the ATO system, implementation of ATO application software and the algorithm using servo-controller for automatic train speed restriction/regulation is presented.

This paper presents the current-fed inverter of a TGV-K traction system with thyristor switches using phase control and commutation techniques. The current-fed inverters have two modes of operation which consist of forced commutation and natural commutation. In forced commutation mode, at speed of less than 120km/h, commutation is forced by means of the commutation capacitors and the thyristors. Above 120km/h, the thyristors operate in natural commutation mode, according to the voltages between phases of the motors. In this paper, the power conversion theory of the TGV-K traction system and the control principle of the converter and current-fed inverter are discussed.

Recently, the
${\mu}$ -processor based-controlled systems instead of conventional relays circuitry are widely used to industrial applications, and also those technology is available to railway signalings which are safety-critical systems. However, the safety and reliability of software for those systems are harder to demonstrate than in traditional relays circuitry because the faults or errors can not be analyzed and predicted to those systems. So, the safety problems are crucial more and more in${\mu}$ -processor based-controlled system. In this paper, the Grafcet language, the graphical and mathematical form, is used to obtain the high-level safety and reliability of software control logic. The general description for Grafcet notation are provided. And some partial of interlocking logic are formally modeled and simulated by Grafcet language and graphical windows. -
TCMS(Train Control & Management System) is the management system of train information which intensively control, monitor and test the main on-board equipments including propulsion/brake unit by the serial transmission line. TCMS reduces interface circuits and number of train lines by the software logic and utilizing serial communication method. This paper describes the method of powering and braking control by TCMS software logic, in comparison with the powering/braking control by conventional relay logic/hardwire circuits, and the software logic was verified by simulation test with TCMS simulator.

The
${\mu}$ -processor based-controlled system is widely used in railway signaling system. The railway signaling systems are highly required safety and reliability. It is necessary to have a fault-tolerant and fail safe concept in${\mu}$ -processor based railway signaling system. In this paper, several architectures and circuits of fault-tolerant computer system is reviewed. The basic concept of the fault-tolerant computer system will be adapted total self checking, strong fail safe, fault display circuit, logic testing circuit and system switching concepts. -
The potential use of ranging sensors for reducing the occurrence of accidents in real environment is explored by many companies and laboratories. Most of the sensors under investigation utilize the FMCW(Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave) waveforms. The automotive environment presents to the FMCW radar sensor a multitude of moving and fixed targets and the sensor must detect and track only the targets which may pose a threat of collision or passengers accident. The sensor must function accurately in the presence of background echoes generated by moving and fixed targets, ground reflections, atmospheric noises, including rains, fog, and, snow and noise generated within the receiver. False detection of the desired target in this environment may issue false alarms. That may be dangerous to the passenger and the vehicle. A high false alarm rate is totally unacceptable. The false alarm mechanism consists of noise peaks, crossing the threshold and the undesired response of the system to off lane targets which are not potentially hazardous to the radar equipped vehicle. This paper presents an improve technique safety performance for driver-less operation using FMCW radar sensors.

The railway signaling system consists of microcomputerized vital devices on board and ground, which are connected to one another by track circuits, and interlocking equipment for route control, The software plays a major role in these microcomputer-based vital systems. Therefore it is important to design the software and validate the required levels of safety and reliability To verify the conditions and functions of signaling logic, the laboratory prototype test bench, which consists of personal computers, VME system and Ethernet LAN, will be developed. In this paper general design of signaling system test bench for high-speed rail is described and some developed subprogram is presented.

In most railway vehicle applications, a single phase AC/DC converter is used greatly and is essential equipment for Korea High Speed Train. A diode bridge rectifier and a phase-controlled thyristor bridge rectifier generate harmonics in power system. Nowadays, power factor and harmonics become major issue in electrical equipment for railway vehicle. Many researchers have been trying to improve the power factor and ac-side harmonics. Therefore the PWM converter is used to operate at unity Power factor and to reduce ac-side current harmonics. This paper describes the circuit for AC/DC PWM converter of Korea High Speed Train and proposes control algorithm to realize the sinusolidal input current waveform and the effective unity power factor. The validity of the proposed control method is verified through the experimental result.

Three phase full bridge rectifier has been used to obtain dc voltage from three phase ac voltage source. The rectifier system has drawbacks that power factor is low and power flow is unidirectional. Therefore, when dc voltage increases due to regeneration of power the dynamic resister for dissipation of regeneration power must be installed. But three phase PWM converter can be controlled to operate with unity power factor and bidirectional power flow. Therefore when the PWM converter is used as do supply system, the dissipating resistor is not necessary. On this thesis, in order to design a controller having good performance, the hee phase PWM converter is completely modeled by using circuit DQ-transformation and thus a general and simple instructive equivalent circuit is obtained; the inductor set becomes a second order gyrator-coupled system and three phase inverter becomes a transformer as well. Under given phase angle(
${\alpha}$ ) and modulation index(MI) of the three phase inverter, the dc and ac characteristics are obtained by analysis of the transformed equivalent circuit The validity of the equivalent circuit is confirmed through PSPICE simulation. And based on the dc and ac characteristics a controller with unity power factor is proposed. -
This paper presents development of the program which calculates the electric quantities such as current, voltage at each pan of railway electrification system in static state. The purpose of this program is to estimate the adequacy of railway electrification system through simulations. And it contributes the estimations for optimal railway electrification system by calculating the maximum of current and voltage. The results are represented through GUI(Graphic User Interface) for user to understand easily.

Stress analysis of bogie frame by using the finite element method has been performed for the various loading conditions according to the UIC (International Union of Railways) Code 615-4. Multiaxial fatigue damage models such as signed von Mises method and typical critical plane theories were reviewed, and multiaxial fatigue analysis program (MUFAP) has been developed. Fatigue analysis of bogie frame under multiaxial loading was performed by using MUFAP and finite element analysis results. The procedure developed in this study is considered to be useful for the life prediction in preliminary design stage of railway components under multiaxial loading conditions. 3-dimensional surface modeling, mesh generation and finite element analysis were performed by Pro-Engineer, MSC/PATRAN and MSC/NASTRAN, respectively, which were installed in engineering workstation.

During the cooling process of rail, residual stresses are produced due to the difference of the coefficients of thermal expansion between rail and inhomogeneous non-metallic inclusions such as sulphides and oxides. A micro-mechanical approach is used to obtain the stresses in the inclusions and matrix, After obtaining the stress of an elliptical inhomogeneous inclusion in an infinite domain, average stresses of randomly distributed spherical inclusions are obtained by use of Mori-Tanaka's self consistent method. The magnitude of the calculated residual stress is near to the yield stress of the matrix in case of the spherical inclusions.

A wheel/rail contact module for dynamics analysis of railway vehicles is developed. The developed module is based on non-linear contact and FASTSIM algorithm which calculates contact forces. And the module is incorporated into the general purpose program DADS using user-defined subroutines. The simulation results of this developed program is compared to those of the railway vehicle dynamics analysis program AGEM. Since the module is based on DADS, various simulation environments can be considered.

The selection of geogrid types for the use of reinforced rail roadbed is important in the design of railways. Also, the problem of the construction damage on the geogrid during construction is raised by the field engineers. Therefore, laboratory model tests were peformed to investigate the efficiency of the bearing capacity and construction damage. As a result, it was found that the bearing capacity of the rigid geogrid reinforced railroad ballast shows 1.54 times higher than that of the flexible geogrid reinforced case. In addition, there were no noticeable damage during construction.

The use of compaction grouting system(C.G.S) evolved in the 1950's to correct structural settlement of buildings. Over the almost 50 years, the technology has developed and is currently used in wide range of applications. Compaction Grouting, the injection of a very stiff 'zero-slump' mortar grout under relatively high pressure, displaces and compacts soils. It can effectively repair natural or man-made soil strength deficiencies in variety of soil formations. Major uses of Compaction Grouting include densifying loose soils or fill voids caused by sinkholes, poorly compacted fills, broken utilities, improper dewatering, or soft ground tunneling excavation. Other application include preventing liquefaction, re-leveling settled structures, and using compaction grout bulbs as structural elements of minipiles or underpinning. So, on the basis of the case history constructed in recent year, a study has been performed to analyze the basic mechanism of the Compaction Grouting and verify the effectiveness of the ground improvement.

This paper is a study on the improvement effects by quick lime pile through theoretical analysis and in-situ construction test. Effects of strength increase is studied to verify the improvement effects of soft ground arounding quick lime pile. First, engineering characteristics of quick lime and ground was studied, in the second place, laboratory test(consolidation test, triaxial compression test) and in-situ test(portable cone penetration test, vane test) were peformed for verification of strength increase of adjacent ground. Finally, the results of in-situ test were compared with those of theorecal study. From in-situ test results, strength at 28th curing days(6.11-6.55t/㎡) was twice as great as strength before improvement(3.06t/㎡) and was slightly greater than theoretical value(4.95t/㎡).

This paper investigates about the prediction of rail bending fatigue lifes for the purpose of the effective maintenance of surface irregularities of rail welded parts. The rail bending stresses are calculated using a track dynamic analysis program. The rail surface irregularities measured in situ are given as inputs in the analyses. On the other hand, the S-N curves are derived based on the results of bending fatigue tests. Using data found so far, rail fatigue lifes are estimated adopting a modified Miner's rule. The useful guides for maintenance of rail welded part are proposed in terms of grinding period and grinding depth of rail surface irregularities.

Large dynamic forces are generated between wheel and rail due to rail surface irregularities at rail welded part. The effects become more and more significant in the view of the present tendency to train speed increasing. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to derive useful guides for the effective and economical maintenance of rail welded parts through the wheel and rail interaction analyses. A typical shape for the irregularity of rail welded part is assumed to make the analysis quantitative. The effects of the irregularity depth and train speed on the train and track behaviors are investigated.

A compression wave is generated by the high speed train which enters a tunnel, and it propagates along the tunnel. When the compression wave emerges from the exit of the tunnel, it causes an impulsive noise, and the strength of the impulsive noise depends on the pressure gradient of the first compression wave. So it needs to reduce the pressure gradient for the minimization of impulsive noise. The entrance hood is used for the reduction of the pressure gradient. In the present study, the pressure transients were numerically calculated for three shapes of hood, In order to validate the numerical simulation, the pressure and pressure gradient were compared with the experimental data of moving model rig. The calculation results won well agreed with the experimental data, and also showed that the hood had an effect on the pressure gradient of the tunnel inside.

In this paper, the simplified method for 2-dimensional train/track/bridge interaction analysis is utilized in the analysis of dynamic behavior of bridges in which the eccentricity of axle loads and the effect of the toriosnal forces acting on the bridge are included for the more accurate train/track/bridge interaction analysis. Inverstigations mainly into the influence of vehicle speed on train/track/bridge interactions are carried out for the two cases. The first case is that only train and bridge are considered in the modelling and the other case is that train, track and bridge are considered.

This is the basic study on the evaluation of seismic performance for existing railway bridges. This study presents all evaluation items and a progressive method of seismic performance for existing railway bridges. In the evaluation of seismic performance, a two-stage is used. Firstly, according to the seismic performance evaluation categories, preliminary screening of bridges is recommended. And using tile seismic rating system, seismic rank of bridges is calculated. Secondly, for the selected bridges in the first stage, detailed evaluation is recommended.

In this study, new finite clement formulations are carried out to analyze the distortion of the curved steel box girders which are susceptible to the torsional loading. For the exact analysis of curved box girders, additional degrees of freedom are added besides the conventional 6 degrees of freedom of general-purpose finite analysis programs, which are torsional warping, distortional warring, and distortion. New formulations were coded into a computer programs. Several numerical examples were presented to demonstrate the validity of developed program.

The newly proposed Precast Segmental Mettled (PSM), which makes use of precast elements for election, is relatively new, efficient and fast mettled for the construction of prestressed box girder bridges. A precast segment of 25m long pretensioned in the fabrication yard is transported by a special trailer and a launching truss to its final position. The segments are then connected in the site by post-tensioning to make a continuous prestressed concrete box girder bridges. The purpose of this parer is to analyze and evaluate the design of precast prestressed concrete box girder bridges. The detailed analyses including time-dependent behavior of PSM bridges are conducted. The major results and findings, which have been obtained from finite element analysis of PSM bridge, are discussed in this paper and these results will be a good base for the design and analysis of a new precast bridges.

Due to temperature variations, considerable longitudinal rail forces and displacements may develop in continuous welded rail(CWR) track on long-span bridges or viaducts. Excessive relative displacements between sleepers and ballast bed may disturb the stable position of the track in the ballast which results in a lower frictional resistance. Generally, these problems are solved by installing rail expansion devices. However the application of expansion devices in high-speed tracks on existing bridges, as a means to prevent excessive longitudinal displacements and forces, is not attractive method due to comfort, safety and maintenance aspects. An alternative and very effective solution is possibly the use of so-called zero longitudinal restraint(ZLR) fastenings over some length of the track. The calculations, carried out in this respect, show a considerable reduction of track displacements, track forces, and the relative sleeper/ballast displacements. This reduction depends on the length over which these fastenings are installed. In this paper calculations of the longitudinal displacments and forces in a CWR track and substructure resulting from thermal, mechanical and kinematical loads were carried out using the FEM analysis program LUSAS

In this study, the simplified method for 3-dimensional vehicle-bridge interaction analysis is utilized in the analysis of dynamic behavior of bridges in which the eccentricity of axle loads and the effect of the torsional forces acting on the bridge are included for the more accurate vehicle-bridge interaction analysis. Investigations mainly into the influence of vehicle speed on vehicle-bridge interactions are carried out for case that two trains move respectively on their tracks in the opposite direction.
