Dynamics of railway vehicles are strongly influenced by the wheel/rail contact forces. Wheel/rail contact geometric characteristics are important parameters to determining wheel/rail contact forces. In general, geometric relations between wheel and rail are represented by nonlinear functions of the wheelset lateral excursion and the relative yaw angle. There are some analytical and experimental studies to show the influences of the wheelset lateral displacement on wheel/rail geometric relations. Recently radial steering bogie which is designed to have flexible yaw motions of wheelsets was developed to improve curve negotiation performance. The radial steering bogie makes it important problem to study the effects of wheelset yaw motion on wheel/rail geometric relations. This paper describes the method to analyze 3-dimensional wheel/rail contact geometry considering wheelset yaw motion and describes also some computer simulation results.

During one revolution of a gear, the intensity of the gear-meshing noise or vibration will vary, depending upon the run-out in the pitch diameter of the gear. Here noise can be produced bu excentricity of the shaft with respect to the base circle and by pitch errors. According to the noise generated is clearly dependent on the force and the amount of energy expended in elastically straining the machine member. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the analysis of the noise and technical reduction of gear noise for machine tool.

Properties of Precursor pitch derived from petroleum residue were studied physical and chemical analysis method for investigation of production of pitch fiber. For preparing of those precursor pitches it was carried out a temperature and time variation experiment i reactor. It was demonstrated the precursor pitch prepared in this study to have a similar properties to Ashland precursor pitch capable of bulk mesophase formation from the results of the basic analysis, that is, molecular weight distribution, coking yield, carbon content, chemical composition, etc.

Fibers with a high degree of axial preferred orientation can be obtained from mesophase pitch. Prior to cabonization, the pitch fibers must be rendered in fusible so that their orientation is preserved. The stabilization of the pitch fibers was heated at temperature between $250^{circ}C$ and $300^{circ}C$ and a treatment time 5 to 80minutes. Oxidized fibers heated $1800^{circ}C$without stretching. Pitch based carbon fiber have a young's modulus as high as 304GN/$m^2$. The structure of the pitch cased carbon fiber is determining factor for the mechanical properties of the produced fibers. The structure depending on the pitch precursor as well as on the oxidation time.

A review was performed on fatigue life prediction and strength evaluation of shot peened parts. Fatigue strength of machine parts can be improved by shot peening due to compressive residual stresses on such parts. Compressive residual stress cannot be uniquely define by peening intensity. Several measuring methods of residual stress and the principle of hole drilling method are presented. Exploratory measurement of residual stress was performed on the shot peened SM35C plate with the hole drilling method. Fatigue life and failure location of shot peened parts under bending load can be predicted by a damage parameter which is incorporated with material properties, residual stress, and applied stress conditions. Some method are presented to predict the fatigue strength of shot peened parts at any given life. Shot peening gives its full benefit to the notched machine parts of high strength steels.

In this paper, temperature distribution and thermal stress are investigated considering engine peak pressure and the time average temperature distribution in the piston under running conditions for the diesel engine. The induced stress are calculated by the Finite Element Method(FEM). The results obtained are summerized as follows. 1) The results calculated by the FEM present good agreement with other numerical solution in literature. 2) It is confirmed that maximum compressive stress are induced in the part of outside wall between the piston crown and the pin bush. 3) In the axial direction, the hoop stresses are changed its sigh at the portion of crown near the inner wall side 4)Large gradient of temperature is shown in the piston crown near the side wall in the axial direction, in the part between the piton crown and the pin bush in radical direction 5)in case of stress distribution of piston wall surface in the axial direction, the hoop stress is a little greater than axial stress, and the latter is greater than the radial stress

For the application of factory automation, a 3-axis numerical control system with personal computer and KM3701 function generator LSI chip, which has liner, circular, parabolic, logarithmic, and exponential interpolations, is developed. The developed system also has 2 control function to stabilize tooling speed and 1/1000mm step sizes.

It is usual practice to ballast a sip to maintain requires operational safety at sea. However, excessive ballasting may reduce the operational economy of a ship. Therefore, The determination of the optimal location and quantity of ballast water is one of the important works at the preliminary design stage. To provide a convenient tool to ship designers the program for the determination of the optimal location and program the effect of the change of ballast water quantity in each tank on some characteristics of a ship, such as trim, initial stability and heel, is investigated and the minimum quantity of ballast water for each tank which satisfies the operational safety requirements is calculated.
