This paper presents a characteristic analysis of switched reluctance motor (SRM) considering switching control method and DC link voltage ripple by using time-stepped voltage source finite element method in which the magnetic field is combined with drive circuit. We also examine the influence of freewheeling diodes and DC link voltage ripple on the performance of the SRM such as torque ripples and radial force on the surface of the teeth. The freewheeling diodes and DC link voltage ripples must be taken into account to predict the performance of SRM.

Accurate and reliable tracking of train is essential for the train control system. The fixed block system which utilizes track circuit has been used widely for the detection of train position. As an alternative, the moving block system has the advantage over the fixed block system since it enables shorter headway and easier maintenance. This paper presents a new technique for the train tracking system which uses radio signal for the train position detection. The proposed algorithm uses the phase difference of arrival of radio signal for the detection of train position. Experimental verification of the algorithm is presented in the paper.

AC loss is one of the important parameters in HTS (High Temperature Superconducting) AC devices. Among the HTS AC power devices, the transformer is the essential part in the electrical power system. But unfortunately, the transformer is the worst HTS device concerning AC loss because of very large magnetization loss due to high magnetic field applied to the HTS wire. We calculated the magnetization losses in HTS pancake windings for transformer according to the operating temperature. Two kinds of arrangement of HTS pancake windings were adopted for calculation of AC losses of a shell type transformer, and the analysis results were presented and discussed.

This paper proposes the calculation method of magnetic coupling coefficient of the contactless energy transmission system by 3D finite element method with a variation of the secondary core positions. The primary, secondary self and leakage inductances and the capacitances of a resonant circuit are calculated by the finite element analysis results. From these values, the magnetic coupling coefficients are obtained. The secondary voltages and currents according to the secondary core positions are calculated by using the resonant circuit and compared.

This study presents an analysis technique that can consider all variables which are needed in the design of short circuit current capability of electrical contacts. Required variables in the design are material of contact, contacting area, applied force, asperity of surface, current and so on. Short circuit current capability test was carried out for the interrelation of design variables and the verification of analysis technique. Temperature rise equation of the contacts was obtained from the test results, and also, a standard that is criterion of the occurrence availability of melting or spot of contact surface from test results was established.

Comparing with the conventional transformer without the air gap, a contactless transformer with the large air gap between the long primary winding and the secondary winding has increased leakage inductance and reduced magnetizing inductance. For transferring the primary power to the secondary one, the high frequency series resonant converter has been widely used for the contactless power supply system with the large air gap and the increased leakage inductance of the contactless transformer However, the high frequency series resonant converter has the disadvantages of the low efficiency and high voltage gain characteristics in the overall load range due to the large air gap and the circulating magnetizing current. In this paper, the characteristics of the high efficiency and unit voltage gain are revealed in the proposed three-level series-parallel resonant converter. The results are verified on the simulation based on the theoretical analysis and the 5kW experimental prototype.

This paper has investigated the speed sensorless indirect vectorcontrol of a two-phase induction motor to implement adjustable-speed drive for low-power applications. The sliding mode observer estimates rotor speed. The convergence of the nonlinear time-varying observer along with the asymptotic stability of the controller has been analyzed. To define the control action which maintains the motion on the sliding manifold, an "equivalent control" concept is used. It has been simulated and implemented on a sensorless indirect vector drive for 150W two-phase induction motor. The simulation and experimental results demonstrate effectiveness of the estimation method.

This paper presents dimming control system for automotive 35W metal halide discharge(MHD) lamp electronic ballast. HID lamp demands a highly efficient ballast and very complex control circuitry that can control complex transient state in applying to automotive. Therefore, in this paper, a microcontroller-based digital control method for the HID lamp ballast is presented for optimal control that can adapt complex transient state, steady state and various environments. In developed dimming system, the system is designed to control the lamp output voltage step by step(continuous) using microcontroller according to CdS sensor. Therefore the designed dimming control system give good driving condition to diver and realize the power control effectively. The results of the proposed system is verified through various experiment results.
