The chigger is of importance to humans and animals as an irritating pest and a crucial vector of disease. We observed stylostome formation by larvae of Leptotrombidium pallidum in parasitized striped-field mouse (Apodemus agarius) pinna skin. The stylostome formations were also examined in detail by electron microscopy. The proximal and middle parts of the stylostome were formed as a rod-like structure containing a canal. The stylostome was coated with thick degenerated epidermal cells, and seemed to be formed a hyperplastic epidermis. The stylostome formation may result from an interaction between larval secretions and the host tissue. According to histological and morphological characteristics, the stylostome exhibited considerable inflammation in the epidermis and similar reactivity.

Asthma and allergic rhinitis due to outdoor spider mites are major health problems worldwide. The sensitization route to spider mites has not yet been well elucidated. We examined the microstructure of faecal pellets and silk of the two-spotted spider mite, Tetranychus urticae, using a field emission scanning electron microscope. Black and white pellets of the two-spotted spider mites faeces contain a large amount of plant pigment waste products. Black faecal pellets are strawberry-shaped. White faecal pellets are silken threads. These pellets are likely to be the source of allergens of relevant mites because desiccated faeces particles probably disintegrate and become incorporated into dust particles more readily than whole bodies or encased internal organs. We conclude that the importance of spider mites in respiratory allergy needs emphasis.

This report concerns with three species of eriophyid mites on Licium chinensis in Korea. Of them, the external morphology of Aceria tjyingi (Manson 1973) was observed with Scanning Electron Microscope. The author reviewed three species of Korean eryophid mites and suggests Korean names of Aceria kuko kishida, A. macrodonis Keifer, and A. tjyngi (Manson), respectively.

A checklist on 61 species of chigger mites belonging to 12 genera and 2 families from Korean peninsula is suggested with Korean names of each taxon.

Herein, 20 species of the ground beetles are reported from Korea. Of these, 5 species, Bembidion serorum (Netolitzky, 1934), Bembidion gebleri nakanei (Jedlicka 1965), Mastax thermarum egorovi (Lafer 1973), Pterostichus jankowskyi (Tschischerine 1897) and Pterostichus longinquus Bates, 1873 are listed for the first time from the Korean Peninsula. Bembidion shimoyamai reported by Paik (1998) and Microlestes imaii reported by Paik and lung (2003) are misidentifications of Bembidion grapii and M. schroederi Holdhaus, respectively.

The taxonomic revision was made on the tribe Harpalini (Coleoptera: Carabidae) in Korea. The Korean species are arranged after Kryzhanovskij et al. (1995) system with minor emendation. This present list is an attempt to bring together the available literature and collection-based information on fauna or taxa recorded from Korea (including some collections from the northern part of the Korean Peninsula, now North Korea). Materials examined for each species, an annotative checklist of Korean Carabidae, and the practical key to tribes and genera are provided. As a result, a total 86 species (and subspecies) belonging to 13 genera are recognized from the Korean Peninsula, of which one species (Harpalus egorovi) is new to South Korea. Distribution of two species, Harpalus tardus and H. tibeticus hsifanicus, are very doubtful in the Korean Peninsula. Besides, numerous new distribution records are given as based on materials deposited in various Universities and private collections.

Herein, 29 species of the harpaline ground beetles are listed from the Korean Peninsula. Of these, distribution of the two species, Harpalus (Harpalus) tardus (Panzer 1797) and H. (H.) tibeticus hsifanicus Schauberger, 1932, are very doubtful in the Korean Peninsula.

Twenty seven species of the subtribe Harpalina from the Korean Peninsula are mentioned here, of which the following six species have not yet been collected from South Korea: Harpalus simplicidens, Ophonus stricticollis, Trichotichnus lucidus, T. gerni, T. vicinus, and T. leptopus.

Twenty three species of the subtribe Stenolophina from the Korean Peninsula are treated, of which Dicheirotrichus punctatellus (Reitter 1894) is listed for the first time in South Korea.

Amynthas hupeiensis with 6/7/8/9 intersegmental spermathecal pores keys to the sieboldi-group in Sims and Easton (1972). Two pairs of round genital papillae are always between segments 17/18 and 18/19, and male pore regions are positioned in between the genital papillae. Korean Amynthas hupeiensis is usually collected from various agroecosystems. Description of the Amynthas hupeiensis is provided, including illustrations of ventral view and spermathecae, DNA barcoding data, and photo.
