Godard was aware of the power of sound and experimented diverse methods such as 'direct sound', interviewing using the effect of on-sound and off-sound, multiple narration, reading a text aloud, sound effect and music which are controled and selected by himself in this film. , with its largely improvised dialogue, was a work of journalism which was recorded a generation of Marx Coca-Cola.
<남성 여성>은 장 뤽 고다르 감독이 누벨바그의 작가로서 최초로 그의 영화 안에 당대의 정치적 분위기를 전달하려고 한 전환점이 되는 작품이며, 끊임없이 질문하는 영화이고, 진정한 의미에서 '말하는 영화'이다. 본 논문은 <남성 여성>의 복잡한 사운드 구조를 해석하기 위하여 영화의 사운드를 분석한다. 고다르는 사운드의 중요성을 잘 알고 있었고, 이 영화에서 '직접 사운드', 온, 오프 사운드를 활용한 인터뷰, 다자의 내레이션, 텍스트의 낭독, 감독에 의해 통제되고 선택된 음향, 음악과 같은 다양한 방법을 실험한다. <남성 여성>은 광범위하게 활용된 즉흥적인 대사를 활용하면서 마르크스-코카콜라 세대를 기록한 저널리즘 작품이다.
