In this paper we handle a system that transform sensor data to sensor information. Sensor informations from redundant accelerometers are manipulated to represent the configuration of objects carrying sensors. Basic sensor unit of the proposed systme is composed of 3 accelerometers that are aligned along x-y-z coordination axes of motion. To refine the sensor information, at first the sensor data are fused by geometrical optimization to reduce the variance of sensor information. To overcome the error caused from inexact alignment of each sensor to the coordination system, we propose a calibration technique that identifies the transformation between the coordinate axes and real sensor axes. The calibration technique make the sensor information approach real value. Also, we propose a technique that decomposes the accelerometer data into motion acceleration component and gravity acceleration component so that we can get more exact configuration of objects than in the case of raw sensor data. A set of experimental results are given to show the usefulness of the proposed method as well as the experiments in which the proposed techniques are applied to human body motion capture.

Agrobacterium rhizogenes-mediated transformation of sugar beet hairy roots expressing single-chain variable fragment (scFv) was exploited to evaluate the efficacy of four antibody-based constructs for interfering with the Beet necrotic yellow vein virus infection. The scFv specific to a major coat protein of virus, p21, was targeted to various cellular compartments including the cytosol (pIC and pICC constructs), apoplast (pIA), and mitochondrion (pIM). After mechanical virus inoculation, most of the hairy root clones expressing scFv in the cytosol displayed low virus titers while the majority of transgenic hairy root clones accumulated antibody in outer membrane of mitochondria or apoplast were infected. This hairy root system provided an efficient and rapid approach to initially investigating root disease resistance like rhizomania prior to transform whole recalcitrant plants such as sugar beet.

Camera calibration is the process of determining the coordinate relationship between a camera image and its real world space. Accurate calibration of a camera is necessary for the applications that involve quantitative measurement of camera images. However, if the camera plane is parallel or near parallel to the calibration board on which 2 dimensional objects are defined(this is called "ill-conditioned"), existing solution procedures are not well applied. In this paper, we propose a neural network-based approach to camera calibration for 2D images formed by a mono-camera or a pair of cameras. Multi-layer perceptrons are developed to transform the coordinates of each image point to the world coordinates. The validity of the approach is tested with data points which cover the whole 2D space concerned. Experimental results for both mono-camera and stereo-camera cases indicate that the proposed approach is comparable to Tsai's method[8]. Especially for the stereo camera case, the approach works better than the Tsai's method as the angle between the camera optical axis and the Z-axis increases. Therefore, we believe the approach could be an alternative solution procedure for the ill -conditioned camera calibration.libration.
A new approach to silent MR imaging using a rotating DC gradient has been explored and experimentally studied. As is known, acoustic or sound noise has been one of the major problems in handling patients, mainly due to the fast gradient pulsings in interaction with the main magnetic field. The sound noise is also proportionally louder as the magnetic field strength becomes larger. In this article, we have described a new imaging technique using a mechanically rotating DC gradient coil as an approach toward silent MR imaging, i.e., a mechanically rotated DC gradient effectively replaces both the phase encoding as well as the readout gradient pulsings and data obtained in this manner provides a set of project ion data which later can be used or the projection reconstructionorwithsomeinterpolation techniques one can also perform conventional 2-D FFT (Fast Fourier Transform) image reconstruction. We found, with this new technique, that the sound noise intensity compared with the conventional imaging technique, such as spin echo sequence, is reduced down to -20.7 dB or about 117.5 times. The experimental pulse sequence and its principle are described and images obtained by the new silent MR imaging technique are reported.
A least-squares identification method is studied that estimates a finite number of coefficients in the series expansion of a transfer function, where the expansion is in terms of recently introduced generalized basis functions, We will expand and generalize the orthogonal functions as basis functions for dynamical system representations. To this end, use is made of balanced realizations as inner transfer functions. The orthogonal functions can be considered as generalizations of, for example, the pulse functions, Laguerre functions, and Kautz functions, and give rise to an alternative series expansion of rational transfer functions. We show that the Laplace transform of the expansion for some sets$\Psi_{\kappa}(Z)$ is equivalent to a series expansion . Techniques based on this result are presented for obtaining the coefficients $c_{n}$ as those of a series. One of their important properties is that, if chosen properly, they can substantially increase the speed of convergence of the series expansion. This leads to accurate approximate models with only a few coefficients to be estimated. The set of Kautz functions is discussed in detail and, using the power-series equivalence, the truncation error is obtained.
For the first time, an accurate analytical solution, based on coupled three-dimensional (3D) piezoelasticity equations, is presented for free vibration analysis of the angle-ply elastic and piezoelectric flat laminated panels under arbitrary boundary conditions. The present analytical solution is applicable to composite, sandwich and hybrid panels having arbitrary angle-ply lay-up, material properties, and boundary conditions. The modified Hamiltons principle approach has been applied to derive the weak form of governing equations where stresses, displacements, electric potential, and electric displacement field variables are considered as primary variables. Thereafter, multi-term multi-field extended Kantorovich approach (MMEKM) is employed to transform the governing equation into two sets of algebraic-ordinary differential equations (ODEs), one along in-plane (x) and other along the thickness (z) direction, respectively. These ODEs are solved in closed-form manner, which ensures the same order of accuracy for all the variables (stresses, displacements, and electric variables) by satisfying the boundary and continuity equations in exact manners. A robust algorithm is developed for extracting the natural frequencies and mode shapes. The numerical results are reported for various configurations such as elastic panels, sandwich panels and piezoelectric panels under different sets of boundary conditions. The effect of ply-angle and thickness to span ratio (s) on the dynamic behavior of the panels are also investigated. The presented 3D analytical solution will be helpful in the assessment of various 1D theories and numerical methods.
This study aims to establish a system for the rapid discrimination of Zoysia species using metabolite fingerprinting of FT-IR spectroscopy combined with multivariate analysis. Whole cell extracts from leaves of 19 identified Zoysia japonica, 6 identified Zoysia sinica, and 38 different unidentified Zoysia species were subjected to Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). PCA (principle component analysis) and PLS-DA (partial least square discriminant analysis) from FT-IR spectral data successfully divided the 25 identified turf grasses into two groups, representing good agreement with species identification using molecular markers. PC (principal component) loading values show that the $1,100{\sim}950cm^{-1}$ region of the FT-IR spectra are important for the discrimination of Zoysia species. A dendrogram based on hierarchical clustering analysis (HCA) from the PCA and PLS-DA data of turf grasses showed that turf grass samples were divided into Zoysia japonica and Zoysia sinica in a species-dependent manner. PCA and PLS-DA from FT-IR spectral data of Zoysia species identified and unidentified by molecular markers successfully divided the 49 turf grasses into Z. japonica and Z. sinica. In particular, PLS-DA and the HCA dendrogram could mostly discriminate the 47 Z. japonica grasses into two groups depending on their origins (mountainous areas and island area). Considering these results, we suggest that FT-IR fingerprinting combined with multivariate analysis could be applied to discriminate between Zoysia species as well as their geographical origins of various Zoysia species.

We investigate experimentally and theoretically the splitting of surface plasmon (SP) resonance peaks under TE- and TM-polarized illumination. The SP structure at infrared wavelength is fabricated with a 2-dimensional square periodic array of circular holes penetrating through Au (gold) film. In brief, the processing steps to fabricate the SP structure are as follows. (i) A standard optical lithography was performed to produce to a periodic array of photoresist (PR) circular cylinders. (ii) After the PR pattern, e-beam evaporation was used to deposit a 50-nm thick layer of Au. (iii) A lift-off processing with acetone to remove the PR layer, leading to final structure (pitch, $p=2.2{\mu}m$; aperture size, $d=1.1{\mu}m$) as shown in Fig. 1(a). The transmission is measured using a Nicolet Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) at the incident angle from $0^{\circ}$ to $36^{\circ}$ with a step of $4^{\circ}$ both in TE and TM polarization. Measured first and second order SP resonances at interface between Au and GaAs exhibit the splitting into two branches under TM-polarized light as shown in Fig. 1(b). However, as the incidence angle under TE polarization is increased, the $1^{st}$ order SP resonance peak blue-shifts slightly while the splitting of $2^{nd}$ order SP resonance peak tends to be larger (not shown here). For the purpose of understanding our experimental results qualitatively, SP resonance peak wavelengths can be calculated from momentum matching condition (black circle depicted in Fig. 2(b)), $k_{sp}=k_{\parallel}{\pm}iG_x{\pm}jG_y$, where $k_{sp}$ is the SP wavevector, $k_{\parallel}$ is the in-plane component of incident light wavevector, i and j are SP coupling order, and G is the grating momentum wavevector. Moreover, for better understanding we performed 3D full field electromagnetic simulations of SP structure using a finite integration technique (CST Microwave Studio). Fig. 1(b) shows an excellent agreement between the experimental, calculated and CST-simulated splitting of SP resonance peaks with various incidence angles under TM-polarized illumination (TE results are not shown here). The simulated z-component electric field (Ez) distribution at incident angle, $4^{\circ}$ and $16^{\circ}$ under TM polarization and at the corresponding SP resonance wavelength is shown in Fig. 1(c). The analysis and comparison of theoretical results with experiment indicates a good agreement of the splitting behavior of the surface plasmon resonance modes at oblique incidence both in TE and TM polarization.

Visual SLAM(Simultaneous Localization And Mapping) has been used widely to estimate a mobile robot's location. Visual SLAM estimates relative motions with static visual features over image sequence. Because visual SLAM methods assume generally static features in the environment, we cannot obtain precise results in dynamic situation including many moving objects: cars and human beings. This paper presents a stereo vision based SLAM method in dynamic environment. First, we extract disparity map with stereo vision and compute optical flow. We then compute disparity change that is the estimated flow field between stereo views. After examining the disparity change value, we detect ROIs(Region Of Interest) in disparity space to determine dynamic scene objects. In indoor environment, many structural planes like walls may be determined as false dynamic elements. To solve this problem, we segment the scene into planar structure. More specifically, disparity values by the stereo vision are projected to X-Z plane and we employ Hough transform to determine planes. In final step, we remove ROIs nearby the walls and discriminate static scene elements in indoor environment. The experimental results show that the proposed method can obtain stable performance in dynamic environment.

For cryptographic systems, nonlinearity is crucial since most linear systems are easily decipherable. C.Bracken, Z.Zhaetc., propose the APN(Almost Perfect Nonlinear) functions with the properties similar to those of the bent functions with perfect nonlinearity. We design two kinds of new code sequence generating algorithms using the above APN functions. And we find that the out of phase ${\tau}\;{\neq}\;0$, autocorrelation functions, $R_{ii}(\tau)$ and the crosscorrelation functions, $R_{ik}(\tau)$ of the binary code sequences generated by two new algorithms over GF(2), have three values of {-1, $-1-2^{n/2}$, $-1+2^{n/2}$}. We also find that the out of phase ${\tau}\;{\neq}\;0$, autocorrelation functions, $R_{p,ii}(\tau)$ and the crosscorrelation functions, $R_{p,ik}(\tau)$ of the nonbinary code sequences generated by the modified algorithms over GF(p), $p\;{\geq}\;3$, have also three values of {$-1+p^{n-1}$, $-1-p^{(n-1)/2}+p^{n-1}$, $-1+p^{(n-1)/2}p^{n-1}$}. We show that these code sequences have the characteristics of the correlation functions similar to those of Gold code sequences.
