  • In this paper, we introduce a set of structures and algorithms for communication efficient public key revocation in wireless sensor networks. Unlike the traditional networks, wireless sensor network is subjected to resources constraints. Thus, traditional public key revocation mechanisms such like the ordinary certificate revocation list is unsuitable to be used. This unsuitability is due to the huge size of required representation space for the different keys' identifiers and the revocation communication as the set of revoked keys grow. In this work, we introduce two communication-efficient schemes for the certificate revocation. In the first scheme, we utilize the complete subtree mechanism for the identifiers representation which is widely used in the broadcast encryption/user revocation. In the second scheme, we introduce a novel bit vector representation BVS which uses vector of relative identifiers occurrence representation. We introduce different revocation policies and present corresponding modifications of our scheme. Finally, we show how the encoding could reduce the communication overhead as well. Simulation results and comparisons are provided to show the value of our work.

  • In conventional cooperative communication data rate is 1/2 than non cooperative protocols. In this paper, we propose a full data rate DF (Decode and Forward) cooperative transmission scheme. Proposed scheme is based on time division multiplexing (TDM) channel access. When DF protocol has full data rate, it can not obtain diversity gain under the pairwise error probability (PEP) view point. If it increases time slot to obtain diversity gain, then data rate is reduced. The proposed algorithm uses orthogonal frequency and constellation rotation to obtain both full data rate and diversity order 2. Moreover, performance is analyzed according to distance and optimized components that affect the system performance by using computer simulation. The simulation results revealed that the cooperation can save the network power up to 7dB over direct transmission and 5dB over multi-hop transmission at BER of $10^{-2}$. Besides, it can improve date rate of system compared with the conventional DF protocol.

  • Wireless Sensor Network(WSN) is considered as a core technology necessary for Ubiquitous computing, with its numerous possible applications in many practical areas, is being researched and studied actively by many around the world. WSN utilizes wireless sensors spatially placed to gather information regarding temperature, light condition, motion and change in speed of the objects within their surrounding environment. This paper implements an environmental information monitoring and indexing system based on spatial indexing technique by constructing a WSN system. This Multi-Query Indexing Technique coupled with wireless sensors provides an output based on the pre-defined built-in data index and new input from the sensors. If environment data is occured, system have to perform a proper action after collecting and analyzing this data. This is the purpose of implementing environment data monitoring system. We constructed environmental application using TinyOS and built tested with MICAz sensor bords. We designed and implemented a monitoring system which detects and multi-indexing process environmental data from distributed sensors.

  • It is very difficult to apply previous security protocols to WSNs(Wireless Sensor Networks) directly because WNSs have resource constrained characteristics such as a low computing ability, power, and a low communication band width. In order to overcome the problem, we proposes a secure group communication scheme applicable to WSNs. The proposed scheme is a combined form of the TEEN(Threshold sensitive Energy Efficient sensor Network protocol) clustering based hierarchical routing protocol and security mechanism, and we assume that WSNs are composed of sensor nodes, cluster headers, and base stations. We use both private key and public key cryptographic algorithms to achieve an enhanced security and an efficient key management. In addition, communications among sensor nodes, cluster headers, and base stations are accomplished by a hierarchical tree architecture to reduce power consumption. Therefore, the proposed scheme in this paper is well suited for WSNs since our design can provide not only a more enhanced security but also a lower power consumption in communications.

  • Simulations are currently an essential tool to develop and test wireless sensor networks (WSNs) protocols and to analyze future WSNs applications performance. Researchers often simulate their proposals rather than deploying high-cost test-beds or develop complex mathematical analysis. However, simulation results rely on physical layer assumptions, which are not usually accurate enough to capture the real behavior of a WSN. Such an issue can lead to mistaken or questionable results. Besides, most of the envisioned applications for WSNs consider the nodes to be at the ground level. However, there is a lack of radio propagation characterization and validation by measurements with nodes at ground level for actual sensor hardware. In this paper, we propose to use a low-computational cost, two slope, log-normal pathloss near ground outdoor channel model at 868 MHz in WSN simulations. The model is validated by extensive real hardware measurements obtained in different scenarios. In addition, accurate model parameters are provided. This model is compared with the well-known one slope path-loss model. We demonstrate that the two slope log-normal model provides more accurate WSN simulations at almost the same computational cost as the single slope one. It is also shown that the radio propagation characterization heavily depends on the adjusted model parameters for a target deployment scenario: The model parameters have a considerable impact on the average number of neighbors and on the network connectivity.

  • There are tendency that wireless sensor network is one of the important techniques for the future IT industry and thereby application areas in it are getting growing. Researches based on the hierarchical network topology are evaluated in good at energy efficiency in related protocols for wireless sensor network. LEACH is the best well known routing protocol for the hierarchical topology. However, there are problems in the range of message broadcasting, which should be expand into the overall network coverage, in LEACH related protocols. This dissertation proposes a new routing protocol to solve the co-shared problems in the previous protocols. The basic idea of our scheme is using the table for nodes connectivity and node energy information. The results show that the proposed protocol could support the load balancing by distributing the clusters with a reasonable number of member nodes and thereby the network life time would be extended in about 1.8 times longer than LEACH.

  • In Wireless Sensor Network(WSN) a sensor node transfers sensing data to the base-node through multi-hop because of the limited transmission range. Also because of the limited energy of the sensor node, the sensor nodes are required to consume their energy evenly to prolong the lifetime of the network. LMPR is a routing protocol for WSN, LMPR configures the network autonomously based on level which is the depth from the base-node, and distributes the transmission and computation load of the network to each sensor node. This paper implements LMPR on TinyOS and experiments on the performance of LMPR in WSN. As the result, the average of the received rate of LMPR is 91.39% and LMPR distributes the load of the transmission and computation about 4.6 times compare to the shortest cost routing protocol. We expect LMPR evenly distributes the transmission and computation load of the network to each node, and the lifetime of the network will be longer than it used to be.

  • The applications of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) are progressively adopting for various smart home services such as home automation, controlling smart home household appliances, constrained application services in a smart home, etc. However, enabling a seamless and ubiquitous WSN communication between the smart home appliances is still a challenging job. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a smart home control system using an Actuator based ZigBee networking (AZNET). The working of the proposed system is further divided into three phases, 1) an interference avoidance system is adopted to mitigate the effect of interference caused due to the co-existence of IEEE 802.11x based wireless local area networks (WLAN) and WSN, 2) a sensor-based smart light control system is used to fulfill the light requirement in the smart home using the sunlight with light source, and 3) an autonomous home management system is used to regulate the usage time of the electronic appliances in the smart home. The smart is tested in real time environment to use the sunlight with light sources in a various time of the day. Similarly, the performance of the proposed smart home is verified through simulation using C# programming language. The results and analysis revealed that the proposed smart home is less affected by the interference and efficient in reducing the energy consumption of the appliances available in the smart home scenario.

  • WSN is a wirelessly configured network of sensor nodes with limited power such as batteries. If the sensor node's battery is exhausted, the node is no longer available. Therefore, if the network is to be used for a long time, energy consumption should be minimized. There are many Wireless Sensor Network Protocols to improve energy efficiency, including Cluster-based and chain-based Protocols. This paper seeks to examine the performance evaluation of routing protocols studied separately for the improvement of performance in wireless sensor network. The criteria for comparison were selected as the LEACH protocol, a representative hierarchical routing protocol, and the comparison targets considered CHEF and FLCFP and LEACH-DFL routing protocols with Fuzzy Logic. Various criteria for performance comparison were presented in this paper, and the performance was compared through simulation of each protocol. The purpose is to present a reference point for comparing the performance of other protocols through the performance comparison of CHEF, FLCFP, and LEACH-DFL, protocols with LEACH and Fuzzy Logic, and to provide additional design methods for improving the performance of protocols.

  • As a broadcast message authentication method in wireless sensor networks, ${\mu}$TESLA enables sensor nodes efficiently authenticate message from base station (BS). However, if we use ${\mu}$TESLA that has very short length of key slot in unattended wireless sensor network (UWSN), sensors may calculate a huge amount of hashs at once in order to verify the revealed secret key. In contrast, if we set the length of ${\mu}$TESLA's key slot too long in order to reduce the amount of hashs to calculate, BS should wait out the long slot time to release key. In this paper, we suggest variable key slot ${\mu}$TESLA in order to mitigate the problem. As showing experiment results, we prove that our suggestion improve sensor node's response time and decrease of number of hash function calculation.
