  • Recently, there are many studies, that considering green wireless cellular networks, have taken the energy consumption of the base station (BS) into consideration. In this work, we first introduce an energy consumption model of multi-mode sharing BS powered by multiple energy sources including renewable energy, local storage and power grid. Then communication load requests of the BS are transformed to energy demand queues, and battery energy level and worst-case delay constraints are considered into the virtual queue to ensure the network QoS when our objective is to minimize the long term electricity cost of BSs. Lyapunov optimization method is applied to work out the optimization objective without knowing the future information of the communication load, real-time electricity market price and renewable energy availability. Finally, linear programming is used, and the corresponding energy efficient scheduling policy is obtained. The performance analysis of our proposed online algorithm based on real-world traces demonstrates that it can greatly reduce one day's electricity cost of individual BS.

  • To overcome the limitations in performance and power consumption of traditional electrical interconnection based network-on-chips (NoCs), a hybrid optical network-on-chip (HONoC) architecture using optical interconnects is emerging. However, the HONoC architecture should use circuit-switching scheme owing to the overhead by optical devices, which worsens the latency unfairness problem caused by frequent path collisions. This resultingly exert a bad influence in overall performance of the system. In this paper, we propose a new task mapping algorithm for optimizing latency by reducing path collisions. The proposed algorithm allocates a task to a certain processing element (PE) for the purpose of minimizing path collisions and worst case latencies. Compared to the random mapping technique and the bandwidth-constrained mapping technique, simulation results show the reduction in latency by 43% and 61% in average for each $4{\times}4$ and $8{\times}8$ mesh topology, respectively.

  • PURPOSES : This study focuses on conducting pavement rehabilitation for more deteriorated roads given a limited government budget. METHODS : Therefore, we apply a optimization programming model of the permutation algorithm used for rehabilitating more deteriorated pavement areas, which is subjected to the limited budget. RESULTS : The permutation algorithm was evaluated in terms of determining the maximized rehabilitation of deteriorated pavement areas, using the newly developed performance models such as fatigue cracking, rutting, international roughness index(IRI) through the surveying data from 2006 to 2012. When compared with a traditional model of the so-called worst-first sequence(WFS) method, the permutation algorithm worked better than the WFS method, resulting in covering more deteriorated pavement areas given the limited government budget. CONCLUSIONS : Through a case study, it could be concluded that the permutation algorithm provides more reliable results in terms of rehabilitating more deteriorated pavement areas given the limited budget.

  • In this paper, a quasi-deadbeat minimax estimation (QME) is proposed as a new class of time-domain parameter estimations for deterministic generic linear models. Linearity, quasi-deadbeat property, FIR structure, and independency of the initial parameter information will be required in advance, in addition to a new performance criterion of a worst case gain between the disturbances and the current estimation error. The proposed QME is obtained in a closed form by directly solving an optimization problem. The QME is represented in both a batch form and an iterative form. A fast algorithm for the suggested estimation is also presented, which is remarkable in view...

  • In this paper, a control law based on the receding horizon concept which robustly stabilizes time-varying discrete linear systems, is proposed. A dynamic game problem minimizing the worst case performance, is adopted as an optimization problem which should be resolved at every current time. The objective of the proposed control law is to guarantee the closed loop stability and the infinite horizon $H^{\infty}$ norm bound. It is shown that the objective can be achieved by selecting the proper terminal weighting matrices which satisfy the inequality conditions proposed in this paper. An example is included to illustrate the results..

  • We propose a new distributed QoS routing scheme called pre-computation based selective probing (PCSP). The PCSP scheme is designed to provide an exact solution to the constrained optimization problem with moderate overhead, considering the practical environment where the state information available for the routing decision is not exact. It does not limit the number of probe messages, instead, employs a qualitative (or conditional) selective probing approach. It considers both the cost and QoS metrics of the least-cost and the best-QoS paths to calculate the end-to-end cost of the found feasible paths and find QoS-satisfying least-cost paths. It defines strict probing condition that excludes not only the non-feasible paths but also the non-optimal paths. It additionally pre-computes the QoS variation taking into account the impreciseness of the state information and applies two modified QoS-satisfying conditions to the selection rules. This strict probing condition and carefully designed probing approaches enable to strictly limit the set of neighbor nodes involved in the probing process, thereby reducing the message overhead without sacrificing the optimal properties. However, the PCSP scheme may suffer from high message overhead due to its conservative search process in the worst case. In order to bound such message overhead, we extend the PCSP algorithm by applying additional quantitative heuristics. Computer simulations reveal that the PCSP scheme reduces message overhead and possesses ideal success ratio with guaranteed optimal search. In addition, the quantitative extensions of the PCSP scheme turn out to bound the worst-case message overhead with slight performance degradation.

  • IP address lookup is to determine the next hop destination of an incoming packet in the router. The address lookup is a major bottleneck in high performance router due to the increased routing table sizes, increased traffic, higher speed links, and the migration to 128 bits IPv6 addresses. IP lookup time is dependent on data structure of lookup table and search scheme. In this paper, we propose a new approach to build a lookup table that satisfies the memory constraint. The design of lookup table is formulated as an optimization problem. The objective is to minimize average depth from the root node for lookup. We assume that the frequencies with which prefixes are accessed are known and the data structure is level compressed trie with branching factor $\kappa$ at the root and binary at all other nodes. Thus, the problem is to determine the branching factor k at the root node such that the average depth is minimized. A heuristic procedure is proposed to solve the problem. Experimental results show that the lookup table based on the proposed heuristic has better average and the worst-case depth for lookup.

  • In this paper, we propose a method of embedded linux light-weight to improve efficiency of application running on embedded systems. Three methods including fast booting scheme applying the Hibernation technique, JFFS2 file system optimization applying the Symbolic Link and virtual address mapping, kernel light-weight that guarantees the general purpose was applied. Since then check the system dependency and generate kernel image according to the target embedded kit. And embedded system performance of existing linux and linux which the method proposed in this paper was compared. In experimental result, the kernel size was 9.6% improved and the system booting time was 18% improved. And application processing speed on target embedded kit was improved 11% in the best case, 66% in the worst case. This result show that the light-weight method proposed in this paper is guarantee fast booting time and securing resources and it is good for the application processing speed improvement.

  • CGI is a standard interface rule between web server and gateway devised for the gateway's standard output to replace a static web document in UNIX environment. So, it is common to use standard I/O statements provided by the programming language for the CGI gateway. But the standard I/O mechanism is one of buffer strategies that are designed transparently to operating system and optimized for generic cases. This means that it nay be useful to apply another optimization to the standard I/O environment in CGI gateway. In this paper, we introduced standard output method and file output method as the two output optimization areas for CGI gateways written in C language in the UNIX/LINUX systems, and applied the proposed methods of each area to Debian LINUX, IBM AIX, SUN Solaris, Digital UNIX respectively. Then we analyzed the effect of them focused on execution time. The results were different from operating system to operating system. Compared to normal situation, the best case of standard output area showed about $10{\%}$ improvement and the worst case showed $60{\%}$ degradation in file output area where some performance improvements were expected.
