  • Schistosomiasis and intestinal worm infections are widespread diseases of public health importance in Tanzania. A study on perceptions and practices related to schistosomiasis and intestinal worm infections was undertaken among a community population of Kome Island in Sengerema District, north-western Tanzania, where intestinal schistosomiasis and intestinal worm infections are endemic. Schistosomiasis and intestinal worm-related perceptions and practices were assessed before and 3 years after implementation of a participatory hygiene and sanitation transformation (PHAST) intervention as a control measure. Data were obtained from baseline and post-intervention knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) questionnaire surveys conducted twice in 2009 and 2012 among 82 individuals aged ${\geq}15years$. We found significant increases in respondents' knowledge of the cause, transmission, symptoms, health consequences, and prevention of schistosomiasis and intestinal worm infections after PHAST intervention. The increase in respondents' knowledge on almost all aspects of the said infections was translated into actions to control schistosomiasis and intestinal worm infections. This has not been achieved by chance, but due to well-designed and locally-adapted PHAST intervention. We conclude that despite criticisms, PHAST approach is still useful in empowering communities to control water, sanitation, and hygiene related infectious diseases such as schistosomiasis and intestinal worm infections.

  • Recently, Random Constant worm is increasing The worm retards the availability of the overall network by exhausting resources such as CPU resource and network bandwidth, and damages to an uninfected system as well as an infected system. This paper analyzes the Power-Law network which possesses the preferential characteristics to restrain the worm from spreading. Moreover, this paper suggests the model which dynamically controls the spread of the worm using information about depth distribution of the delivery node which can be seen commonly in such network. It has also verified that the load for each node was minimized at the optimal depth to effectively restrain the spread of the worm by a simulation.

  • This study was performed to investigate the activity of antibodies in the tissues of Paragonimus westermani at the different developmental stages. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and Immunelectron microscopy (IEM) were applied, using the dog sera infected with metacercariae isolated from Cambaroides similis. These dog sera were obtained from 3rd to 96th week after infection by bleeding. The supernatants of homogenated worms for worm antigen were used. The worm tissues were embedded in Lowicryl HM 20 medium, treated with infected serum and protein A gold complex (particle size; 12 nm) and observed by electron microscope. In the pattern of antibody levels by ELISA test in all developemental worm antigens, the activity of antibody was very weak in the 3rd week, but strong in the worm antibody from 4th to 20th week after infection. Its activity was maintained even till 96th week. The antibody level of the L2th week worm antigen was higher than those of the 20th and 48th week worm antigens. Generally, many gold particles were observed on the secretory granules and the epithelial lamellae. Thus, it was concluded that the antigenic materials in the developmental worm tissues were especially concentrated on the secretory granules in the parenchymal tissues and the epithelial lamellae in the lumen of the caecum.

  • This experiment was carried out to determine the effect of mixture ratios of worm cast and soil on the growth orchardgrass seedlings, and estimate the adequate mixture ratio of worm cast for plant growth media. Mixture ratios of worm cast and soil were 100:0, 80:20, 60:40, 40:60, 20:80 and 0:100, respectively. The results were summarized as follows; 1. The value of dry weight of shoot(SW), dry weight of root(RW), number of tillers per plant(NT) and biological yield(BY) were the highest in the mixture with 60% of worm cast. Particularly, the dry weight distribution to root in 20%-60% mixture ratios of worm cast were higher than those grown in 80%-100% mixture ratios of worm cast, it may due to the enhancement of root growth by adquate worm cast mix. 2. The orchardgrass seedlings in the 60% mixture ratio of worm cast grown in favourable soil conditions compared to those grown in other mixtrure ratios of worm cast and soil without worm cast. The soil analysis data showed that 60% mixture ratio of worm cast contained pH 6.16, 13.84% of organic matter, 0.84% of total nitrogen, 1,413.9ppm of available phosphorus and 16.7me/100g of cation exchange capacity, respectively. 3. Biological yield(BY) indicated positive significant correlation with the dry weights of shoot(SW) and root(RW). And, the dry weight of shoot(SW) had positive correlation with the number of tiller per plant(NT) and dry weight of tiller(WT).

  • Since the propagation speed of the Internet worms is quite fast, worm detection in early propagation stage is very important for reducing the damage. Virus throttling technique, one of many early worm detection techniques, detects the Internet worm propagation by limiting the connection requests within a certain ratio.[6, 7] The typical throttling technique increases the possibility of false detection by treating destination IP addresses independently in their delay queue managements. In addition, it uses a simple decision strategy that determines a worn intrusion if the delay queue is overflown. This paper proposes a two dimensional delay queue management technique in which the sessions with the same destination IP are linked and thus a IP is not stored more than once. The virus throttling technique with the proposed delay queue management can reduce the possibility of false worm detection, compared with the typical throttling since the proposed technique never counts the number of a IP more than once when it chicks the length of delay queue. Moreover, this paper proposes a worm detection algorithm based on weighted average queue length for reducing worm detection time and the number of worm packets, without increasing the length of delay queue. Through deep experiments, it is verified that the proposed technique taking account of the length of past delay queue as well as current delay queue forecasts the worn propagation earlier than the typical iuぉ throttling techniques do.

  • The effects of earthworm casts as a plant growth media on the growth of orchardgrass seedlings and the changes of physico-chemical properties in worm casts mixture soils were investigated during the growth period of 1998. Worm casts were mixtured with vermiculite, perlite and peat moss, and mixture ratios of worm casts with commercial recommended soil were 100:0(control), 75:25, 50:50, 25:75, and 0:100, respectively. The results were obtained as follows; 1. Plant length(PL) was increased in higher mixture ratios of worm casts and peat moss than those of other mixture ratios of commercial recommended soils. 2. Number of tillers(NT) were significantly increased in mixture ratios of worm casts and peat moss(50:50) and 100% of vermiculite. 3. Root length(RL) was significantly differences between mixture ratios at the worm casts, and the highest value was obtained at all mixture ratios of worm casts and perlite. 4. Dry weight of leaf(LW) was not significantly differences at mixture ratios of 50:50 in all treatments. Especially, between the mixture ratios of worm casts with peatmoss(25:75) and peat moss(75:25) were not significantly differences in dry weight of leaf(LW). The highest value of dry weight of leaf(LW) was obtained at mixture ratios of peat moss and worm casts. 5. Dry weight of tillers(SW) was not significantly differences at mixture ratios of 50:50 in all treatments, and peat moss(75:25) and vermiculite(75:25), respectively. 6. biological yield(BY) at all treatments were increased by yield components of dry weight of tillers(SW), dry weight of root(RW) and length of root(RL). 7. The biological yield of orchardgrass seedlings was greatly increased with mixture ratios of worm casts and peat moss over the 50%.

  • The worm reducer is capable of quadrature power transmission when the shafts are disposed at right angles to each other. Since a large reduction ratio can be obtained of up to approximately 1/100 and a sliding movement is performed during operation compared with other gears, the noise and vibration are small, and there is the advantage that reverse rotation can be prevented. On the other hand, severe wear and damage are displayed on the gear and worm tooth surface, and many defects, such as intense heat generation of the reducer, occur. In the reducer case, the four-piece casing method was selected to solve the problems of heat generation, transmission efficiency, and assemblability. In this paper, we analyzed the problems of the worm and worm wheel (the core parts of a 5-Ton worm reducer) and casing through these methods and researched how to solve them.
