Design of a Strong Authentication Mechanism using Public-Key based on Kerberos (공개키를 이용한 커버로스 기반의 강력한 인증 메커니즘 설계)

  • Kerberos is designed to provide strong authentication between client and application servers which are working in distributed network environment by using symmetric-key cryptography, and supposed to trust other systems of the realm. In this paper, we design an efficient and strong authentication mechanism by introducing the public/private-key to Kerberos. In the mechanism to make a system more secure, the value of the session key is changed everytime using MAC(message authentication code) algorithm with the long-term key for user-authentication and a random number exchanged through the public key. Also, we employ a mutual authentication method, which is used on challenge-response mechanism based on digital signatures, to improve trust between realms, and present a way of reducing the number of keys by simplifying authentication steps.

Flow Visualization of Oscillation Characteristics of Liquid and Vapor Flow in the Oscillating Capillary Tube Heat Pipe

  • The two-phase flow patterns for both non-loop and loop type oscillating capillary tube heat pipes (OCHPs) were presented in this study. The detailed flow patterns were recorded by a high-speed digital camera for each experimental condition to understand exactly the operation mechanism of the OCHP. The design and operation conditions of the OCHP such as turn number, working fluid, and heat flux were varied. The experimental results showed that the representative flow pattern in the evaporating section of the OCHP was the oscillation of liquid slugs and vapor plugs based on the generation and growth of bubbles by nucleate boiling. As the oscillation of liquid slugs and vapor plugs was very speedy, the flow pattern changed from the capillary slug flow to a pseudo slug flow near the annular flow. The flow of short vapor-liquid slug-train units was the flow pattern in the adiabatic section. In the condensing section, it was the oscillation of liquid slugs and vapor plugs and the circulation of working fluid. The oscillation flow in the loop type OCHP was more active than that in the non-loop type OCHP due to the circulation of working fluid in the OCHP. When the turn number of the OCHP was increased, the oscillation and circulation of working fluid was more active as well as forming the oscillation wave of long liquid slugs and vapor plugs in the OCHP. The oscillation flow of R-142b as the working fluid was more active than that of ethanol and the high efficiency of the heat transfer performance of R -142b was achieved.

Korean Red Ginseng extract attenuates alcohol-induced addictive responses and cognitive impairments by alleviating neuroinflammation

  • Background: Alcohol is one of the most commonly used psychoactive drugs. Due to its addictive characteristics, many people struggle with the side effects of alcohol. Korean Red Ginseng (KRG) is a traditional herbal medicine that is widely used to treat various health problems. However, the effects and mechanisms of KRG in alcohol-induced responses remain unclear. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of KRG in alcohol-induced responses. Methods: We investigated two aspects: alcohol-induced addictive responses and spatial working memory impairments. To determine the effects of KRG in alcohol-induced addictive responses, we performed conditioned place preference tests and withdrawal symptom observations. To assess the effects of KRG in alcohol-induced spatial working memory impairment, Y-maze, Barnes maze, and novel object recognition tests were performed using mice after repeated alcohol and KRG exposure. To investigate the potential mechanism of KRG activity, gas chromatography-mass spectrometry and western blot analysis were performed. Results: KRG-treated mice showed dose-dependent restoration of impaired spatial working memory following repeated alcohol exposure. Furthermore, withdrawal symptoms to alcohol were reduced in mice treated with KRG and alcohol. The PKA-CREB signaling pathway was activated after alcohol administration, which was reduced by KRG. However, the levels of inflammatory cytokines were increased by alcohol and decreased by KRG. Conclusion: Taken together, KRG may alleviate alcohol-induced spatial working memory impairments and addictive responses through anti-neuroinflammatory activity rather than through the PKA-CREB signaling pathway.

Numerical Analysis of Pulsating Heat Pipe Based on Separated Flow Model

  • The examination on the operating mechanism of a pulsating heat pipe (PHP) using visualization revealed that the working fluid in the PHP oscillated to the axial direction by the contraction and expansion of vapor plugs. This contraction and expansion is due to the formation and extinction of bubbles in the evaporating and condensing section, respectively. In this paper, a theoretical model of PHP was presented. The theoretical model was based on the separated flow model with two liquid slugs and three vapor plugs. The results show that the diameter, surface tension and charge ratio of working fluid have significant effects on the performance of the PHP. The following conclusions were obtained. The periodic oscillations of liquid slugs and vapor plugs were obtained under specified parameters. When the hydraulic diameter of the PHP was increased to d=3mm, the frequency of oscillation decreased. By increasing the charging ratio from 40 to 60 by volume ratio, the pressure difference between the evaporating section and condensing section increased, the amplitude of oscillation reduced, and the oscillation frequency decreased. The working fluid with higher surface tension resulted in an increase in the amplitude and frequency of oscillation. Also the average temperature of vapor plugs decreased.

Improvement for Response Delays of Displacement Magnifier in Jetting Dispenser (젯팅 디스펜서 변위확대장치의 응답지연 개선 연구)

  • The objective of this study is to investigate the response delays between piezo-stack actuator and the displacement magnifier of jetting dispenser and to reduce its falling time in terms of displacement optimization. The dispenser is driven by the dual piezo-stack actuators with a hinge lever mechanism to precisely control flow rate of the working fluid (3000 cP). It is commonly found that piezo actuator-driven jetting dispensers involving viscous working fluids have displacement optimization problem for ideal performance. The response delay of the system is caused by the phenomenon that the displacement magnifier cannot exactly follow the motion of the piezo actuators. The response delay may lower the performance of the system due to the inaccurate discharge of working fluid or even damages to the system itself due to inharmonious motion of piezo actuators with lever system. To reduce its response delay, a new displacement profile obtained from displacement optimization is suggested; its performance is tested through finite element analysis; and experiments are carried out to verify the performance of the obtained displacement profile.

A Study on Residual stress at Cutting work (절삭가공시 잔류응력에 관한 연구)

  • The sudden-stop apparatus is made to measure the residual stress of the infinitesimal area at the turning work surface by using the X-ray stress apparatus. This study is trued to make the cutting work the instantaneous stopping state in the normal working state. The behaviour of work material near the tool is estimated. The estimation method is that the distribution of residual stress can be also measured. The object is to clarify and control the mechanism to leave the adequate stress of the finishing surface. It's beginning is due to observe the occurrence state of the residual stress at the cutting work. The result obtained by this study is as follows. The chips are not separated from the work materials at all the cutting experiments of built-up edges or the shearing areas etc. which can be precisely observed by using the sudden-stop apparatus. The strain of movable system which can be seen at the part of working layer means the size of strain. This experiment proves that the working strain should be lessened to make the size of strain control the residual stress happened at the cutting surface.

Disposable Electrochemical Immunosensors for the Detection of Herbicide (제초제 검출을 위한 전기화학적 일회용 면역센서)

  • A disposable electrochemical immunosensor system has been developed for the detection of herbicide in aqueous samples. Disposable screen printed carbon electrodes(SPCE) were used as basic electrodes and an enzyme, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), and anti-herbicide antibodies was immobilised on to the working electrode of SPCE by using avidin-biotin coupling reactions. An herbicide-glucose oxidase conjugates have been used for the competitive immunoreaction with sample herbicides. The enzymatic reaction between the conjugated glucose oxidase and glucose added generates hydrogen peroxide, which was reduced by the peroxidase immobilised. The latter process caused an electrical current change, due to direct re-reduction of peroxidase by a direct electron transfer mechanism, which was measured to determine the herbicides in the sample. The optimal operational condition was found to be: $20\;{\mu}gl-1$ deglycosylated avidin loading to the working electrode and working potential +50 mV vs. Ag/AgCl. The total assay time was 15 min after sample addition. The detection limits for herbicides, atrazine and simazine, were found to be 3 ppb and 10 ppb, respectively.

  • For the purpose of determining neurophysiological mechanism of math anxiety, we conducted an EEG measurement for 22 sixth grade elementary students including 11 students with high math anxiety (HMA group), and 11 students with low math anxiety (LMA group). We found that in HMA group, delta wave was significantly generated from the right frontal lobe, and in LMA group, four paths are clearly connected while they perform math tasks (right inferior occipital gyrus ${\leftrightarrow}$ left superior parietal lobule /left middle frontal gyrus ${\leftrightarrow}$ left inferior parietal lobule /left middle frontal gyrus ${\leftrightarrow}$ right inferior parietal lobule / right middle frontal gyrus ${\leftrightarrow}$ right inferior parietal lobule). According to the above results we suggest that math anxiety is related to emotions associated with pain, reduces working memory and has a negative effect on math performance.

GMI Magnetic Field Sensor based on Time-coded Principle

  • A GMI magnetic field sensor working based on time-coded principle has been investigated and designed. The laboratory model has been constructed and tested carefully, demonstrating the sensitivity of $3\;{\mu}s/{\mu}T$ in the field range of ${\pm}100\;{\mu}T$. An amorphous thin wire, $100\;{\mu}m$ in diameter ${\times}50\;mm$ in length, was chosen to be sensing element which was fit into a small field modulation coil of 60 mm in length. The sensor is working based on a time-coded principle that, with the magnetic field modulation was chosen in range of hundreds of Hz, the change in time interval of two adjacent GMI peaks relating to external DC magnetic field is proportional to the intensity of the external field to be measured. This mechanism has made a great improvement to the linearity of the sensor.

  • Field robot represented by excavator can be applied for various kinds of working in manufacturing, construction, agriculture etc. because of the flexibility of its multi-joint mechanism and the high power of hydraulic actuators. In general, the dynamics of field robot have strong coupling, various kinds of non-linearity, and time varying parameters according to working conditions. Therefore, it is very difficult to describe the system well, and design controller systematically based on its model. This paper established the mathematical model of field robot driven by electro-hydraulic servomechanism and constructed the adaptive control system robust to external load variations. The proposed control system for the field robot was evaluated by the computer simulation, and the performance results of trajectory tracking were compared with that of PID control system.
