  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the workability and strength of concrete containing admixtures. For this purpose, four kinds of admixtures such as silica fume, fly ash, ground granulated blast-furnace, rice husk ash are selected and tested on the workability and strength according to the replacement ratio of them. As a result, considering their workability and strength, the optimum replacement ratio of them were obtained for each concrete containting admixtures.

  • This is the study on the performance of workability and engneering properties of flowing concrete using the superplasticizers, which are being used for control of the consistency of fresh concrete without modifying the properties of the hardened concrete and for production of high quality concrete at a low water-cement ratio. It is the aim of this study to analyze and investigate workability and engineering properties of flowing concrete according to the addition rate in poor and rich mix proportions of base concrete. Base on this fundamental investigation for the development of flowing concrete mix design, it could be drawn that the workability and engineering properties of flowing concreteare influenced greatly by mix proportion and dosage of superplasticizers.

  • EGW process has been applied to joining of ship block with vertical-up position at high production rate. The workability of EGW, however, has been interrupted by too much slag production. Two electrodes EGW showed more severe workability than that of one electrode EGW. Therefore, to understand the effect of discharge amount of EGW slag on workability and mechanical properties, two different slag discharge amount have been controlled at the same welding conditions. The results are as follows; 1) Workability has been improved by any additional slag discharge. 2) Mechanical properties have been deteriorated with any additional slag discharge. 3) Chemical compositions of weld metal have been changed by any additional slag discharge.

  • Recently, with the increasing demand of high performance of concrete, the mix design of concrete mixture has became low water-to-binder ratio with high binder content. To compensate these trend of mix design, high range water reducer, or superplascizier has been invented to achieve high flowable concrete. Although this superplasticizer provides favorable workability based on its dispersing action on the components of concrete mixture, it has an limitation of decreasing viscosity of the mixture, and thus it is difficult to secure sufficient workability for high performance concrete mixtures with high binder content. To improve the workability of concrete with high viscosity, recently, low-viscosity type superplasticizer was introduced, and in this research, a fundamental properties of low-viscosity type superplasticizer is evaluated.

  • In the present work, hot workability of particulate-reinforced Al6061-20%SiC composite produced by direct hot extrusion technique was studied. Uniaxial hot compression test at various temperatures and strain rates was used and the workability behavior was evaluated from the flow curves and the attendant microstructures. It was shown that the presence of SiC particles in the soft Al6061 matrix deteriorates the hot workability. Bulging of the specimens and flow lines were observed, which indicate the plastic instability during hot working. Microstructure of the composites after hot deformation was found to be heterogeneous, i.e. the reinforcement clusters were observed at the flow lines. The mechanism of deformation was found to be controlled primarily by dynamic recrystallization.

  • Fly Ash in concrete is known to be effective in improving workability, the reduction of heat of hydration, increasing the long-term compressive strength, and improving durability. Recently, fly ash is consedered an essential material for the high-strength concrete. In this paper, investigations for the strength and workability characteristics was carried out when fly ash was used in the high-strength concrete. As the result, fly ash was effective in increasing the long-term compressive strength, but the short-term compressive strength was gradually decreased with increating fly ash contents. And also the use of superplasticzers was required for providing the proper workability when fly ash contents were increased. The optimum content of fly ash was about 10%.

  • The ideal gradating curve is used in this study to estimate densified aggregate blended ratio and total surface area of aggregate, there by under assigned paste amount of concrete, and coating paste thickness can then be deduced. Four groups of concrete mixtures were prepared and the corresponding concrete properties, such as workability, compression strength, ultrasonic velocity, surface resistivity and chloride ion penetration, were measured and finally the results are interpreted in terms of "coating thickness". The result shows as the coating thickness of the concrete is higher than critical one, the coating thickness on aggregate does affect the workability, and whatever workability is required the superplasticizer can be adjusted to achieve the demand workability. Under a fixed paste quality at the same age, coating paste thickness is inversely proportional to the concrete properties, especially as the coating thickness gets thinner.

  • Since inorganic pigment, among admixtures used for cement composites, can raise the esthetic value of a building due to its effect of coloring, it can be assumed that the quantity consumed is expected to increase in connection with the recent trend of emphasizing the beautiful sights of the city. We carried out a flow test by changing the mix proportion of the cement mortar mixed with an inorganic pigment, water-cement ratio and pigment mixing ratio in order to present the basic materials for utilizing colored cement mortars. In construction by exploring the effect of inorganic pigments on the workability of cement mortar. In case of red pigment mortar and yellow pigment mortar, the workability was found to be rapidly decreased. To secure proper workability, it is necessary to increase the amount of mixing water, or to use superplasticizer. In case of green pigment mortar, however, it recorded $-2.4{\~}6.9{\%}$, showing that there was almost no change in flow. In case of black pigment mortar, it was also confirmed that there is no need to consider workability.
