과거 근업과 근시 정도와의 관련성에 관한 세대별 비교 연구 (A study on relationship between myopia and near work in generational comparison)

  • 근시와 관련하여 근업의 영향을 평가하고, 이러한 근업의 행태가 세대변화에 따라 어떻게 다른지를 규명하고자 한다. 연구는 청주와 대전에 거주하는 성인 남녀 201명을 대상으로 하였다. (-)2.50D를 기준으로 연구대상을 근시군과 대조군으로 나누었다. 굴절이상과 관련한 안과검사와 근업과 관련한 설문조사 결과를 이용하여 근시정도와 근업과의 상관성을 규명하였고, 각 그룹을 20대와 30대로 구분하여 다시 비교하였다. 설문조사 결과 연구대상 전체에서는 고등학교 시기 학교머무름시간과 야외활동시간 그리고 중,고등학교시기 운동여부에 따른 굴절이상도, 고등학교 계열에 따른 굴절이상도, 학교 머무름시간, 야외활동시간 항목에서 모두 근시군과 대조군 사이에 유의한 차이가 나타났다. 같은 항목에 대해 연구대상을 20대와 30대로 나누어서 비교했을 때는 운동여부와 양 군 간의 추세 및 운동여부에 따른 굴절이상도에서 세대에 따라 서로 다른 결과가 나타났다. 근업의 정도는 근시에 영향을 미치는 환경적 위험요인의 하나로 근시 진행과 관련하여 고려해야할 중요한 항목이지만, 근시 예방과 관련하여 근업의 구체적인 행동양식들을 언급할 때는 해당 세대의 문화와 시환경을 고려하여야 한다.

  • Bis-GMA is an important component in commercial dental restorative composites, but its hydroxy groups are considered to promote water absorption of the cured composite in a mouth. In this work, multifunctional methacrylates were prepared by blocking the hydroxy groups in bis-GMA with methacryloyl groups. Comparing to bis-GMA, new prepolymers having three methacryloyl groups (BPA-3M) and four methacryloyl groups (BPA-4M) showed much lower viscosities. Photopolymerization conversion of BPA-3M was slightly higher than that of bis-GMA. Water absorption of the photo-cured composite containing BPA-3M was measured for one month and found to be much lower than that of bis-GMA.

업무상정신질환 인정실태에 관한 연구 (An Empirical Study on Psychiatric Patients' Mental Disorders Acknowledged as Work-Related)

  • The psychiatric patients as subjects were categorized herein into disease- and accident-triggered groups to statistically compare them with each other in terms of various comparative items. At a result, male patients were more dominant than females and physical workers were outnumbered by mental workers in the two groups. Also, patients were more apparent at workplaces with at least 100 employees than the ones with less than 100 employees, and patients whose employment period is at least one year were more vulnerable to stress-related mental disorders than the ones whose employment period falls short of one year. The foregoing findings suggest that there is a need to take preventive measures considering vulnerable aspects in terms of mental disorders.

항공교통관제사의 피로.스트레스 요인 (Fatigue and Stress of Air Traffic Controllers in Korea)

  • Air traffic controllers often experience fatigue and stress on the job due to work-related factors. Performance impairment resulting from fatigue and stress is an important concern for aviation safety. The goal of this research was to investigate fatigue and stress factors for air traffic controllers. The research involved an extensive literature review of fatigue and stress in the air traffic control environment and surveyed fatigue and job stress level of Korean air traffic controllers compared to other occupation groups. Results of survey showed that fatigue and stress levels of air traffic controllers were significantly higher than other occupation groups. Specially air traffic controllers reported that night work created high level of fatigue and perceived that physical environment and job demand induced high level of stress. In addition, implications for fatigue and stress management were discussed.

Influence of Surface Treatment of Polyimide Film on Adhesion Enhancement between Polyimide and Metal Films

  • In this work, the effects of chemical treatment of polyimide films were studied by FT-IR, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), atomic force microscopy (AFM) and contact angles. The adhesion characteristics of the films were also investigated in the peel strengths of polyimide/aluminum films. The increases of surface functional groups of KOH-treated polyimide films were greatly correlated with the polar component of surface free energy. The peel strength of polyimides to metal substrate was also greatly enhanced by increasing the KOH treatment time, which can be attributed to the formation of polar functional groups on the polyimide surfaces, resulting in enhancement of the work of adhesion between polymer film and metal plate.

Short- and Long-term Effects of a Physical Exercise Intervention on Work Ability and Work Strain in Symptomatic Menopausal Women

  • Background: Physical exercise during leisure time is known to increase physical capacity; however, the long-term effects on work ability and work strain are inconclusive. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of a 6-month physical exercise program on work ability and work strain after 6 months and 30 months, among women with menopausal symptoms at baseline. Methods: A questionnaire including questions on work ability and work strain was mailed in the beginning, at 6 months and after 30 months after the intervention to occupationally active women participating in a randomized controlled study on physical exercise and quality of life. The intervention included aerobic exercise training 4 times per week, 50 minutes per session. Work ability was measured with the Work Ability Index (WAI) and with questions about physical and mental work strain. Results: Women aged 47-62 years (N=89) who were occupationally active at baseline were included in the analyses. The increase in WAI from baseline to the end of the exercise intervention (6 months) was statistically significantly greater among the intervention group than among the control group (regression coefficient 2.08; 95% confidence interval 0.71-3.46). The difference between the groups persisted for 30 months. No significant short- or long-term effects on physical and mental work strain were found. Conclusion: A 6-month physical exercise intervention among symptomatic menopausal women had positive short-term as well as long-term effects on work ability.

Association Between Shift Work and Clean Room Environment on Self-reported Premenstrual Symptoms and Menstrual Pain in Taiwan

  • Background: Limited research has delved into the effects of work characteristics on premenstrual symptoms (PMS) in women, which can influence work performance and overlook potential hazards for women in their work environments. This study aimed to investigate the impact of shift work and working in a clean room on premenstrual symptoms, menstrual status, and menstrual pain among employed females in an electronics manufacturer. Methods: A retrospective cohort study was conducted on menstruating female employees between August and December 2014, aged 18e55, who received regular employee health checks. Questionnaires were designed to collect information on demographics, personal lifestyle, menstrual status, menstrual pain scores, and self-reported premenstrual symptoms. Results: Among 7,193 participants, 18.6% reported moderate to severe menstrual pain affecting their work. Female workers who reported shift work showed an increased prevalence of moderate to severe premenstrual symptoms, including fatigue (RR = 1.20), somatic discomforts (RR = 1.04), diarrhea (RR = 1.04), and tension (RR = 1.05). Additionally, shift work was associated with an elevated risk of experiencing a moderate or significant impact of menstrual pain on work (RR = 1.03), menstrual irregularity (RR = 1.30), and high menstrual pain (RR = 1.23). Working in a clean room was associated with an increased risk of high menstrual pain (RR = 1.13). Subjects working shifts in a clean room had the highest pain scores compared to the other groups. Conclusion: This study underscores the association of work-related factors on PMS in female employees. Our findings contribute to a better understanding of premenstrual symptoms in female workers with different work characteristics, emphasizing the potential hazards of work-related factors on female employees.

취업모 일만족도에 영향을 미치는 요인 분석: 전일제와 시간제 비교 (Influential Factors for Job Satisfaction: A Comparison of Part-Time and Full-Time Female Employees with Children)

  • 본 연구는 18세 이하의 자녀를 둔 배우자 있는 기혼여성 임금근로자를 전일제와 시간제로 구분하여, 일만족도에 영향을 미치는 경로구조가 두 집단에 동일한지, 경로계수가 두 집단 간 차이를 보이는지를 비교분석하였다. 복수모집단 동시분석 결과, 경로모형은 근무형태가 다른 두 집단에게 적합하나 경로계수는 두 집단 간 유의미한 차이가 있는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 실제로 직접효과를 보면, 본인소득, 사업장 규모, 남편 일지지, 일가정 대립은 두 집단의 일 만족도에 공통적으로 영향을 미쳤으나 건강상태는 전일제 취업모의 일만족도에만 영향을 미치는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 간접효과에서도, 가정일 대립은 공통적으로 두 집단의 일만족도에 간접적으로 영향을 미쳤으나, 건강상태는 전일제에게만, 미취학자녀와 본인소득은 시간제에게만 일만족도에 간접적으로 영향을 미치는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 이러한 연구결과는 자녀를 둔 기혼여성 임금근로자의 일만족도를 향상시키기 위해서는 근무형태별로 차별화된 대책이 마련되는 것이 효과적임을 시사해주고 있다.

Selection Guide to Wearing Respirators According to Work Situations and On-site Applicability

  • Background: This study aims to introduce the formulation of the regulation for the selection of respirators for accident preparedness chemicals (APCs) according to chemical workplace situations and to determine on-site applicability. Methods: Workplaces were grouped into seven work categories, and APCs were classified into six groups to select adequate respirators. A survey was conducted to enhance the understanding of work situations and adequate respirators. The total number of subjects surveyed in 2018 was 201 managers and handlers, and that in 2019 was 91 handlers and 204 managers. Results: Adequate respirators were allocated to each cell using the matrix method. The study observed an overall lack of understanding of work situations, especially in the operation of open devices, which was the highest at 32.7%. Despite its implementation in 2015, 17.6% and 25.0% of the managers and APCs handlers, respectively, were unaware of the regulations for selecting respirators. Only 70.4% of the APCs handler wore respirators in compliance with regulations. Conclusion: The method for selecting respirators according to work situations using the matrix method is considered reasonable. Thus, this study suggests that the development of educational contents and reinforcing education should be essential steps to increasing awareness of regulations.

COVID-19로 인해 발생한 업무의 피로도와 직무소진의 상관관계 및 직무스트레스와의 회귀분석 연구 -물리치료사를 대상으로- (Correlation Between Work Fatigue Caused by COVID-19 and Occupational Burnout -Regression Analysis of Occupational Stress in Physiotherapists-)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the type of physical therapist response work and its intensity, along with the prolonged prevalence of COVID-19, to determine the impact on physical therapists' occupational stress and occupational burnout. Methods: An online survey was conducted with 118 physiotherapists and collected the participants' gender, final educational background, clinical work experience, workplace type, additional workload, and fatigue associated with COVID-19. After excluding one participant who submitted an incomplete questionnaire, 117 respondents were included in the final data. Results: Additional COVID-19-related workloads and response reliability for fatigue, occupational burnout, and occupational stress were shown to have Cronbach's alpha measures of 0.76, 0.89, and 0.87, respectively. Groups who had experienced a new epidemic in the past showed higher fatigue levels (3.06±0.94) than those groups who had no such experience (2.49±0.84; p < 0.05). Correlation analysis of COVID-19 work fatigue and occupational burnout scales showed a positive correlation (r = 0.19; p < 0.05). The regression of occupational burnout and occupational stress showed a regression model of Y = 20.00+0.43X1 (X1: job stress; p< 0.05) and an explanatory power of 24.8% with an adj.R2 = 0.25. Conclusion: Based on the results, it is suggested that various institutions, such as medical institutions, educational institutions, and physiotherapists' associations, should seek ways to manage and alleviate physiotherapists' stress.
