  • Nondeterministic finite Rabin-Scott's automata without initial and final states (2 $\omega$-FA) are considered. In this paper they are used to define so called sets of obstruction used also in various alge-braic systems and to consider similar problems for the formal languages theory. Thus we define sets of obstructions of languages(or, rather, 2$\omega$-languages) of such automata. We obtain that each 2$\omega$-language defined by 2 $\omega$-FA has the set of obstruction being a regular language. And vice versa for each regular language L(containing no proper subword of its another word) there exists a 2$\omega$ -FA having L as the set of obstructions.

  • This research is for finding prototypes and characteristics of intonation found in ${\ulcorner}$-a/e, $t{\int}ijo$<${\lrcorner}$ and ${\ulcorner}$p/simnida${\lrcorner}$ among modern Korean predicate statements by constructing spoken corpus based on the current radio broadcast. So the result of the study is as follows. : (1) The construction of the balanced spoken corpus and the standard for boundary determination of rhythm are needed for the intonation model of speech synthesis. (2) Korean intonation units have the splited word tone which includes the nuclear tone and the pre-nuclear tone makes unclear tone more detailed. (3) I made man and woman intonation models individually through t-test of SPSS. (4) The standard intonation model is devided '-ajo'type and '-nida'type

  • Resolving the integer ambiguity of GPS carrier phase measurements is the most important routine in precise positioning. In this paper, success rate is analyzed when using baseline information in the process of determining attitude. The result is verified through the simulation. Determining the initial position for the ambiguity resolution is estimated by using code measurement and baseline constraint. Success rate is estimated using covariance of the formed initial position. UKF has been used to overcome the nonlinear baseline condition during the process so that the higher success rate has been obtained compared with the general attitude determination.

  • The purpose of this paper is to study deletion of the Arabic glottal stop /'/ in Literary Arabic(LA) and Cairene Arabic(CA). Arabic has a diglossia structure - Literary and Colloquial Arabic. The former is the standard and written language, while the latter is the oral language used in dialects of many areas. Of the various Colloquial Arabic dialects the Cairene Arabic is the most influential and powerful dialect, hence it was chosen as the subject study. In this paper the followings are found: (1) The deletion of the Arabic glottal stop /'/ in CA is found much more frequently than that in LA. (2) In a word the deletion is found more frequently in the middle position than in the initial or final position, in which /'/ is sometimes converted weak consonants /w/ or /y/.

  • It is generally accepted that there appears the rising tone at the end of the intermediate phrase in standard Korean. There have been discussions about whether the syllable with the rising tone, even if it is a particle or an ending, might be accented or not. The accented syllable is the most prominent one in the given phonological strings. It is determined by the nondistinctive stress which is located on the first or second syllable of lexical word according to vowel length and syllable weight. So pitch does not have any close relationship with accent. The intermediate phrase-final rising tone, therefore, is not associated with accent, but used to convey other pragmatic meanings, that is, i) speech style is more friendly, ii) the speaker tries to send the information for the hearer to hear more clearly, and iii) the speaker wants the hearer to keep on listening to him or her because the speaker's utterance is not complete.

  • This study investigated speech rate and intonation slope (least square method; F0, quarter-tone) in normal and CI children's utterances. Each group consisted of 12 people and were divided into groups of children with CI operation (before 3;00), children with CI operation (after 3;00), and normal children. Materials are composed of four kinds of grammatical dialogue sentences which are lacking in respect. Given three groups as independent variables and both speech rate and intonation slope as dependent variables, a one-way ANOVA showed that normal children had faster speech rates and steeper intonation slopes than those of the CI group. More specifically, there was a statistically significant speech rate difference between normal and CI children in all of the sentential patterns but imperative form (p<.01). Additionally, F0 and qtone slope observed in sentential final word showed a significant statistical difference between normal and CI children in imperative form (f0: p<.01; q-tone: p<.05).

  • The negative sentence may have an ambiguity depending on which constituent of the sentence is negated. In case of sentence final adverbials, whether they are included in the scope of negation generates the semantic ambiguity. Since sentences with ambiguous meanings have the same word order, the differences of the meanings in different contexts should be manifested with intonational cues. This article represents how intonation contributes to the disambiguation in negative sentences with ambiguity and which phonological/phonetic cues are specifically used in the course of the disambiguation.

  • The main purpose of this study is to develop air transportation cultural index which is able to estimate the level of them. Generally Speaking, air transportation cultural, a compound word of 'air transportation' and 'culture', is a substantial entity consisting knowledge, art, morality, legality, cultivation, customs, and etc, which comes from aircraft operation sector, airport operation/management sector and user sector. They are classified in a primary scope, as aircraft operation sector relating to flight operation, airport operation/management sector and user sector. The research and analysis were taken approximately 4 months, from June 2004 to October 2004. To evaluate the index, the detailed item for three categories were chosen and quantified. The grades for each items were induced from calculation formula for air transportation cultural index by applying weight values. The final grade of Korea's air transportation cultural index recorded 63.19 points.

  • The assessment for a degree of drought has been carried out based on the soil moisture index in Korea. The soil moisture index(Im) was calculated assuming of constant evapotranspiration until wilting point as Im = w2/wf $.$100. The soil moisture content(W2) at the final of a period is obtained from W2 : Pe + Wl - E, here the effective precipitation amount is Pe, evapotranspiration E, and the soil moisture content at the beginning of a period is Wl. The filed capacity(Wf), as a mean value of fine sandy loams, was reduced to 92 mm/ft when we accept the wilting point and the available soil moisture content of 42 mm/ft, respectively. The drought begins in Korea when the soil moisture index drops to less than 50%. The value coincides the isoline of 11 or more consecutive days without measureable precipitation. The soil moisture index frequently drops in the northern part of Youngnam area and Honam area so that both areas are well known as the areas of drought. Key word : Droughts, Soil Moisture Index.
