Voice-based messenger using NXT touch-sensor input unit and the Bluetooth wireless communication for the blind (터치 센서 입력기와 블루투스 무선 통신을 이용한 시각 장애인용 음성 기반 메신저)

  • Many people have conveniently used various messengers to talk with remote friends or to send urgent files to remote co-workers. Recently, it is also possible to use messenger with user's image. However, these messenger technologies are of no use for the blind. In order to cope with this problem, we propose voice-based messenger with a Braille system for the blind. The proposed messenger enables the blind to listen to the received sentences from remote user. It also enables them to listen to the written sentences before sending to remote user for the purpose of checking that the sentences are correctly written. The Braille system for writing sentences can be implemented by using the programmable NXT system, which contains a 32-bit ARM-7 micro-controller, with 4 touch-sensors. Finally, we apply the Bluetooth technology for wireless communication between the Braille system and the proposed messenger.

  • This paper is a matter of remote control apparatus and display remote control system comprising the same. The remote controller is a wireless remote pointing device that is included a function of mouse and a function of remote controller for VOD etc. It is assembled a sending signal part to communicate with display device, a image sensor part to capture a seen of front view and a main body. Also, it includes a control part that analyzes the captured image, calculates a relative moving factor that main body is moved by user, and then controls the mouse cursor on the display device. The remote control apparatus is able to capture a seen of front view, to analyze the captured image, and to move a mouse cursor point on the display device as much as it calculated relative moving factor. Therefor it brings down the cost of production by a product design that is increased user satisfaction. And it, using the patent and the new product design, will make an epoch in development of the remote control system for Ubiquitous broadcasting industry.

  • This study implemented a remote control system using PDA based on WINDOWS CE. NET. In existing remote control systems, the user generally controls remote objects and obtain data using a computer, which is a local system connected to the internet, and the remote objects are connected to server computers. In order to control remote objects, the user has to have a computer, a space to use the Internet, and wired internet. The system proposed in this study uses an embedded board as a server and PDA as a client. Thus, the user can control remote objects at any place as long as wireless internet is available. In addition, because an embedded board is used as a server, the system has the characteristics of high performance and low power consumption. The proposed system provides not only remote control environment using PDA but also conventional control environment using a computer as a client. In case PDA is not available, remote objects still can be controlled from any place as long as there are wired internet and a computer.

  • Wireless communication technologies, especially smartphones, have become increasingly common. Wireless technology is widely used in general industry and this trend is also expected to grow with the development of wireless technology. However, wireless technology is not currently applied in any domestic operating nuclear power plants (NPPs) because of the highest priority of the safety policy. Wireless technology is required in operating NPPs, however, in order to improve the emergency responses and work efficiency of the operators and maintenance personnel during its operation. The wired telephone network in domestic NPPs can be simply connected to a wireless local area network to use wireless devices. This design change can improve the ability of the operators and personnel to respond to an emergency situation by using important equipment for a safe shutdown. IEEE 802.11 smartphones (Wi-Fi standard), Internet Protocol (IP) phones, personal digital assistant (PDA) for field work, notebooks used with web cameras, and remote site monitoring tablet PCs for on-site testing may be considered as wireless devices that can be used in domestic operating NPPs. Despite its advantages, wireless technology has only been used during the overhaul period in Korean NPPs due to the electromagnetic influence of sensitive equipment and cyber security problems. This paper presents the electromagnetic verification results from major sensitive equipment after using wireless devices in domestic operating NPPs. It also provides a solution for electromagnetic interference/radio frequency interference (EMI/RFI) from portable and fixed wireless devices with a Wi-Fi communication environment within domestic NPPs.

Multi-functional Automated Cultivation for House Melon;Development of Tele-robotic System (시설멜론용 다기능 재배생력화 시스템;원격 로봇작업 시스템 개발)

  • In this paper, a prototype tele-operative system with a mobile base was developed in order to automate cultivation of house melon. A man-machine interactive hybrid decision-making system via tele-operative task interface was proposed to overcome limitations of computer image recognition. Identifying house melon including position data from the field image was critical to automate cultivation. And it was not simple especially when melon is covered partly by leaves and stems. The developed system was composed of 5 major modules: (a) main remote monitoring and task control module, (b) wireless remote image acquisition and data transmission module, (c) three-wheel mobile base mounted with a 4 dof articulated type robot manipulator (d) exchangeable modular type end tools, and (e) melon storage module. The system was operated through the graphic user interface using touch screen monitor and wireless data communication among operator, computer, and machine. Once task was selected from the task control and monitoring module, the analog signal of the color image of the field was captured and transmitted to the host computer using R.F. module by wireless. A sequence of algorithms to identify location and size of a melon was performed based on the local image processing. Laboratory experiment showed the developed prototype system showed the practical feasibility of automating various cultivating tasks of house melon.

Pet Location Tracking and Remote Monitoring System using a Wireless Sensor Network (무선센서네트워크를 이용한 애완동물 위치추적 및 원격모니터링 시스템)

  • In this paper, we design a pet location tracking and remote monitoring system that uses ultrasonic, temperature, humidity and illumination sensors to study behavioral patterns and habits. Using ultrasonic waves to calculate distances, a WSN(Wireless Sensor Network) was constructed to transmit data at pet's location, such as temperature, humidity and illumination, to a sink mote. Data received by the system are stored in the database in real time to trace pet's location. Interference among transmitting motes was eliminated by sequentially transmitting RF beacons using sink mote's beacon as the reference signal. Experiments were performed with the laboratory prototype of a pet animal monitoring system implemented for this study. The system analyzes locations of a pet and displays movement patterns, areas of movement, temperature, humidity and illumination using a GUI (graphical user interface).

Development of a Wireless Gamma-ray Probe for Diagnosing and Evaluation of its Effectiveness (진단용 무선 감마선 프로브 개발 및 유용성 평가)

  • We developed a wireless gamma-ray probe based on radiation photon counting method to diagnose and detect remaining lesions after surgery, and its effectiveness was evaluated using calibration sources and a phantom. The probe was designed and miniaturized using a semi-conductor-based radiation sensor, and a Bluetooth remote communication module was used to implement the wireless diagnosis and detection system. Moreover, a remote monitoring system was implemented to monitor affected areas during diagnosis and surgery. To assess the effectiveness of the developed probe in this study, calibration sources $^{57}Co$, $^{133}Ba$, $^{22}Na$ and $^{137}Cs$ and a chicken breast phantom were used. Furthermore, the probe's detection response to gamma ray was confirmed through evaluation. Its clinical applicability was verified by assessing the response linearity and detection direction according to gamma-ray intensity, as well as the detection efficiency according to the depth of the gamma source in the phantom.

  • In this study, we study the system to remotely transmit musical score based on Internet of Things(IoT). When musicians play music, they occasionally use the instrument and the musical score at the same time. At this time, the degree of immersion in music is reduced. In order to solve this problem, this paper proposes automatic sheet page turning system based on Internet of Things(IoT). The system can be remotely adjusted using the foot without using the hand. The system consists of a Wireless Smart Button equipped with Bluetooth and an application capable of operating the Wireless Smart Button. The Wireless Smart Button used Arduino based open source. We designed an application(App) to utilize it and proposed an intuitive UI.

  • Recently, intelligent surveillance camera systems are needed popularly. However, current researches are focussed on improvement of a single module rather than implementation of an integrated system. In this paper, we implemented a moving wireless surveillance camera system which is composed of face detection, and using motion sensor. In our implementation, we used a camera module from SHARP, a pair of wireless video transmission module from ECOM, body of moving robot used for A4WD1 Combo kit for RC, a pair of ZigBee RF wireless transmission module from ROBOBLOCK, and a motion sensor module (AMN14111) from PANASONIC. We used OpenCV library for face dection and MFC for implement software. We identified real-time operations of face detection, PTT control, and motion sensor detecton. Thus, the implemented system will be useful for the applications of remote control, human detection, and using motion sensor.
