Loss Discrimination Mechanism for Improving the Performance of TFRC in Last-hop Wireless Networks (라스트 홉 무선 네트워크에서 TFRC의 성능향상을 위한 손실 구별 기법)

  • The TFRC is a congestion control mechanism which supports the requirements of video streaming applications and controls its sending rate by using the information such as loss event rate and RTT (round-trip time). However, TFRC has a performance degradation in wireless networks because it performs congestion control by judging all the losses occurred in wireless network as a congestion signal. In this paper, we propose new loss discrimination mechanism which is using ECN in order to solve the performance degradation of TFRC. Through the results of simulation, we proved that the proposed mechanism can improve the performance of TFRC.

  • It has recently been noticed that the headway of unlicensed wireless technology is necessary as user's demands of wireless tech increase and the development of high-speed data service by using low-power short-range wireless network is needed. Hence, it is inevitable to study sharing and coexistence for broadband spectrum of diverse unlicensed application with wide bandwidth. In this paper, an interference examination between unlicensed WiFi (Wireless Fidelity) in the 6GHz and OB (Outside Broadcasting) system which is an incumbent service in the same frequency band was conducted and it suggests separation distance for the coexistence. Thus, MCL (Minimum Coupling Loss) and MC (Monte Carlo) methods were used to set up interference scenarios for the interference analysis and compute the separation distance between two systems according to the same frequency band and frequency separation.

  • The advance of mobile and telematics technologies has produced vehicles with various convenient services for drivers. Specifically lots of researches and several technologies have been developed to provide services of a remote vehicle diagnosis and control. The existing and representative product for a vehicle control is a RCS (remote control system), but it has a problem of short control distance and fragile security. In this paper, a telematics terminal embedded with CDMA and GPS is designed, which can be connected to the Internet. It allows a driver with a cellular phone to remotely diagnosis and control a vehicle via wireless network and SMS.

  • There are lots of wired and wireless home network technologies these days. However, an effective middleware is needed to control devices in home regardless oj any kinds of home network technologies applied. We can integrally and simply control all the home appliances using the architecture that leverages TCP/IP and Web technologies, which is like UPnP control technology. In this paper, UPnP technology and IEEE 1394 technology are introduced., and also UPnP over 1394 is issued. Some results from the implementation show that it is possible to control IEEE 1394 devices using the IP-based UPnP technology instead of just using a direct AV/C command set.   • This paper describes efficient flight control algorithms for building a reconfigurable ad-hoc wireless sensor networks between nodes on the ground and airborne nodes mounted on autonomous vehicles to increase the operational range of an aerial robot or the communication connectivity. Two autonomous flight control algorithms based on adaptive gradient climbing approach are developed to steer the aerial vehicles to reach optimal locations for the maximum communication throughputs in the airborne sensor networks. The first autonomous vehicle control algorithm is presented for seeking the source of a scalar signal by directly using the extremum-seeking based forward surge control approach with no position information of the aerial vehicle. The second flight control algorithm is developed with the angular rate command by integrating an adaptive gradient climbing technique which uses an on-line gradient estimator to identify the derivative of a performance cost function. They incorporate the network performance into the feedback path to mitigate interference and noise. A communication propagation model is used to predict the link quality of the communication connectivity between distributed nodes. Simulation study is conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed reconfigurable airborne wireless networking control algorithms.

Collaborative Wireless Sensor Networks for Target Detection Based on the Generalized Approach to Signal Processing

  • Collaboration in wireless sensor networks must be fault-tolerant due to the harsh environmental conditions in which such networks can be deployed. This paper focuses on finding signal processing algorithms for collaborative target detection based on the generalized approach to signal processing in the presence of noise that are efficient in terms of communication cost, precision, accuracy, and number of faulty sensors tolerable in the wireless sensor network. Two algorithms, namely, value fusion and decision fusion constructed according to the generalized approach to signal processing in the presence of noise, are identified first. When comparing their performance and communication overhead, decision fusion is found to become superior to value fusion as the ratio of faulty sensors to fault free sensors increases. The use of the generalized approach to signal processing in the presence of noise under designing value and decision fusion algorithms in wireless sensor networks allows us to obtain the same performance, but at low values of signal energy, as under the employment of universally adopted signal processing algorithms widely used in practice.

  • Emerging applications in automation, medical imaging, traffic monitoring and surveillance need real-time data transmission over Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs). Guaranteeing Quality of Service (QoS) for real-time traffic over WSNs creates new challenges. Rapid penetration of smart devices, standardization of Machine Type Communications (MTC) in next generation 5G wireless networks have added new dimensions in these challenges. In order to satisfy such precise QoS constraints, in this paper, we propose a new cross-layer QoS-provisioning strategy in Wireless Multimedia Sensor Networks (WMSNs). The network layer performs statistical estimation of sensory QoS parameters. Identifying QoS-routing problem with multiple objectives as NP-complete, it discovers near-optimal QoS-routes by using evolutionary genetic algorithms. Subsequently, the Medium Access Control (MAC) layer classifies the packets, automatically adapts the contention window, based on QoS requirements and transmits the data by using routing information obtained by the network layer. Performance analysis is carried out to get an estimate of the overall system. Through the simulation results, it is manifested that the proposed strategy is able to achieve better throughput and significant lower delay, at the expense of negligible energy consumption, in comparison to existing WMSN QoS protocols.

  • Despite efforts to reduce unexpected accidents at confined construction sites, choking accidents continue to occur. Because of the poorly ventilated atmosphere, particularly in long, confined underground spaces, workers are subject to dangerous working conditions despite the use of artificial ventilation. Moreover, the traditional monitoring methods of using portable gas detectors place safety inspectors in direct contact with hazardous conditions. In this study, a long-range (LoRa)-based wireless safety monitoring system that features the network organization, fault-tolerant, power management, and a graphical user interface (GUI) was developed for underground construction sites. The LoRa wireless data communication system was adopted to detect hazardous gases and oxygen deficiency within a confined underground space with adjustable communication range and low power consumption. Fault tolerance based on the mapping information of the entire wireless sensor network was particularly implemented to ensure the reliable operation of the monitoring system. Moreover, a sleep mode was implemented for the efficient power management. The GUI was also developed to control the entire safety-monitoring system and to manage the measured data. The developed safety-monitoring system was validated in an indoor testing and at two full-scale water pipeline construction sites.

  • Now, the production process systems are largely based on automatic system using the wired network. The production process systems using wired network has disadvantage that it is expensive when the installed and replaced equipment. The each equipment happens to repair cost for control and management in production processes. And the replaced equipment has also the additional expense and breaks production process. These problems are solved through wireless communication between the industrial equipments. So, we propose wireless production process system based on IEEE 802.15.4 technology. It solves a complicated space and stops by replaced equipment in the factory. Then we simulated and analyzed IEEE 802.15.4 for Industrial Equipment based on Wireless Network.

A Study on Integration Scheme of Wireless Communications in Railway Wireless Network (철도 무선통신망 연동 방안 연구)

  • The current railway wireless network uses various communication scheme depending on the section of railway. Therefore, in the train, it is required a specific communication device for the corresponding communication scheme to communicate and exchange data with the control center. To enhance data rate and support various services, LTE-R scheme has been developed for the next generation railway communications. To use both the existing communication and LTE-R schemes, it is required an integration method for encompassing all communication schemes. In this paper, we overview existing railway communications and LTE-R scheme. Then, we develop a network integration method which can be applied by using one terminal in the train. In addition, implementation issues for the integration are also considered.
