Collagen and chitosan are used in medical and cosmetic materials as natural polymers. In order to utilize the advantages of the materials, collagen/chitosan conjugated wet-spun fibers were prepared. The analysis of surface, optical, thermal and mechanical properties was carried out on the various composition of collagen and chitosan. As a result of images analysis, it was verified that the collagen/chitosan conjugated fibers were stably spun. In addition, the optical and thermal properties of fibers were observed to be changed by hydrogen bond. As a result, an optimized composition could be found at an appropriate content. Moreover, the optimized fibers have mechanical properties similar to chitosan fibers, while improving the structural and thermal stability by its hydrogen bond. In addition, the wet-spun collagen/chitosan conjugated fibers can be applied to medical and various fields through mechanical properties according to content control.

Development of simple and efficient method for large-scale production of mechanically strong and electrically conductive graphene fiber is highly desirable for practical applications, such as fiber-reinforced composites, wearable electronics, and electromagnetic irradiation shielding. Here, we present a facile approach for the preparation of amine-functionalized graphene fibers by simple wet-spinning of diamine-functionalized graphene oxide (GO-$NH_2$), which is used because of its synthetic convenience, good dispersity, and scalable production with low cost. The amine-functionalized graphene fiber shows high electrical and mechanical properties compared to pristine graphene oxide fiber due to the electrostatic interaction between amine groups and electronegative functional groups of graphene oxide.

In this study, lignin/chlorinated poly(vinyl chloride)(CPVC) blended fibers have been produced for the development of low-cost carbon fiber. Carbon fiber manufacturing was accomplished through stabilization and carbonization process. The lignin/CPVC blended fibers were prepared by wet spinning method. Dimethylacetamid e(DMAc) and cychlohexanone in a ratio of 5:1(wt%) was employed as co-solvent. The ratio of lignin/CPVC was prepared at 0/10, 1/9, 2/8, 3/7, 4/6, and 5/5(wt%). The spinning solution was extruded at a rate of 0.1 to 0.4ml/min according to the blending ratio. The speed of the rollers was the same for all ratios(draw ratio=1). Analysis of fiber cross-section by scanning eletron microscopy(SEM) showed that as the lignin ratio increased in the same coagulation bath and distilled water, the pore size of the spinning fiber decreased. Therefore, the highest tensile strength of the blending fibers was 6.3±1.2MPa at the 5/5 ratio. The carbon fiber also showed the best tensile strength of 120.78±2.43MPa at 5/5 ratio.
PAN precursor fibers were produced via wet-spinning process, and effects of polymerization and spinning processes, especially the stretching process, were investigated on mechanical properties and micro-morphologies of precursor fibers. An increase in molecular weight, dope solid and densification and a decrease in surface defects were possible by controlling polymerization temperature, the number of heating rollers for densification and the jet stretch ratio, which improved the mechanical properties of precursor fibers. The curves for strength, modulus, tensile power and diameter as a function of stretch ratio can be divided into three stages: steady change area, little change area and sudden change area. With the increase of stretch ratio, the fiber diameter became smaller, the degree of crystallization increased and the structure of precursor fibers became compact and homogeneous, which resulted in the increase of strength, modulus and tensile power of precursor fibers. Empirical relationship between fiber strength and stretch ratio was studied by using the sub-cluster statistical theory. It was successfully predicted when the strengths were 0.8 GPa and 1.0 GPa under a certain technical condition, the corresponding stretch ratio of the fiber were 11.16 and 12.83 respectively.

Poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene), PVDF-HFP, hollow fiber membranes were prepared by the dry/wet spinning technique using different polyethylene glycol (PEG) concentrations as non-solvent additive in the dope solution. Two different PEG concentrations (3 and 5 wt.%). The morphology and structural characteristics of the hollow fiber membranes were studied by means of optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy (AFM) and void volume fraction. The experimental permeate flux and the salt (NaCl) rejection factor were determined using direct contact membrane distillation (DCMD) process. An increase of the PEG content in the spinning solution resulted in a faster coagulation of the PVDF-HFP copolymer and a transition of the cross-section internal layer structure from a sponge-type structure to a finger-type structure. Pore size, nodule size and roughness parameters of both the internal and external hollow fiber surfaces were determined by AFM. It was observed that both the pore size and roughness of the internal surface of the hollow fibers enhanced with increasing the PEG concentration, whereas no change was observed at the outer surface. The void volume fraction increased with the increase of the PEG content in the spinning solution resulting in a higher DCMD flux and a smaller salt rejection factor.
The PVDF (polyvinylidene fluoride) fibers were prepared using the wet spinning processing. To improve ${\beta}$-phase crystalline which closely related piezoelectric property PVDF wet spun fibers conducted post treatment. Post treatment is consisted of heat stretching and annealing process. The heat stretching and annealing conditions were controlled by changing temperature between glass transition temperature and melting temperature. From these experimental data, the resulting crystal structure of the ${\beta}$-phase crystalline was confirmed by FT-IR and XRD experiments. From these analysis results, optimum stretching and annealing conditions of the wet spun PVDF fibers were founded to increase high ${\beta}$-phase crystalline. Furthermore results showed that thermal processing had a direct effect on modifying the crystalline microstructure and also confirmed that heat stretching and annealing could increase the degree of crystallinity and ${\beta}$-phase crystalline. Finally, piezoelectric constant ($d_{11}$) of the post heat treated PVDF fibers reinforced composite were measured to investigate the feasibility for the sensing materials.

A new model and resultant equation for the coagulation of acrylonitrile monomers in precipitation polymerization are suggested in consideration of the surface tension (${\gamma}$) and cohesive energy density ($E_{CED}$). The equation was proven to be quite favorable by considering figure fittings from known surface tensions and cohesive energy densities of certain organic solvents. The relationship between scale value of surface tension (${\gamma}$/M) and cohesive energy density of monomers can be obtained by changing the coagulation bath component for effective precipitation polymerization of acrylonitrile in wet spinning.

Dyeing and fastness properties of direct spun type PET microfiber fabrics have been investigated. The dye uptake of finer microfibers commenced at lower temperatures and showed faster rate of dye uptake. The build-up and wet fastness properties of disperse dyes on finer microfbers were relatively poor since the more dye was needed to achieve a given depth of shade due to the large surface area.

The phase inversion is a significant phenomena in the preparation of membranes and wet spinning. In both these processes, a viscous dope solution is precipitated in a nonsolvent bath and a porous structure is formed under certain conditions. Such structure could have been considered as a diffusion controlled process. The membrane formation of the polymer solution includes both phase separation and gelation. We have studied the influence of variables on the final structure and tried to control the porosity and ultrafiltration(UF) performance of the polyacrylonitrile(PAN) and its copolymer.
Chitosan fiber was prepared by wet spinning with various draw ratio. Chitosan fiber was coated with f-carboxymethyl keratein(SCMK) by extruding chitosan solution into 1 M NaOH solution containing 1% SCMK. Among three chitosan used in this study(chitosans of 5 cps, 50 cps, 100 cps), 50 cps chitosan gave the best tenacity and optimum concentration was 5%. SCMK coating increased the tenacity of chitosan fiber. Regardless of SCMK coating, tenacity and elongation of both chitosan fibers were increased with the increase of draw ratio. Chitosan fiber showed antimicrobial activity against Staphyloccus aureus showing 66∼72% of bacteria reduction rates. On the other hand, chitosan fiber coated with SCMK didn't show any antimicrobial activity.
