  • Coagulation is a process whereby particles collide with one another due to their relative motion, and adhere to form large particles. Coagulation caused by the random Brownian motion of particles is called Brownian coagulation. Many properties, such as light scattering, electrostatic charges, toxicity, as well as physical processes, including diffusion, condensation and thermophoresis depend strongly on their size distribution. Therefore, Brownian coagulation is substantially important in atmospheric science, combustion technology, inhalation toxicology and nuclear safety analysis. (omitted)

  • An acceleration technique combined with the discrete ordinates method which has been widely used in the solution of neutron transport phenomena is applied to the solution of radiative transfer equation. The self-adjoint form of the second order radiation intensity equation is used to enhance the stability of the solution, and a new linearization method is developed to avoid the nonlinearity of the material temperature equation. This new acceleration method is applied to the well known Marshak wave problem, and the numerical result is compared with that of a non-accelerated calculation

  • This paper deals with some types of semilinear parabolic systems with localized or nonlocal sources and nonlocal boundary conditions. The authors first derive some global existence and blow-up criteria. And then, for blow-up solutions, they study the global blow-up property as well as the precise blow-up rate estimates, which has been seldom studied until now.

  • The problem of separation of isotopes in a concurrent gas centrifuge is solved analytically for an arbitrary binary mixture of isotopes. The separative power of the optimised concurrent gas centrifuges for the uranium isotopes equals to ${\delta}U=12.7(V/700m/s)^2(300K/T)(L/1m)kg{\cdot}SWU/yr$, where L and V are the length and linear velocity of the rotor of the gas centrifuge and T is the temperature. This equation agrees well with the empirically determined separative power of optimised counter-current gas centrifuges.

  • It is found that with increasing power, the measured electron energy distribution by Langmuir probe evolves into a Druyvesteyn-like electron energy distribution in the low-pressure regime of 1mTorr in a small inductively coupled plasma. Electron bounce resonance is introduced to explain the transition of the electron energy distribution against the rf power, The energy diffusion coefficients which determine the shape of the electron energy distribution in elastic range are calculated with and without electron bounce resonance. This electron energy distribution transition is well explained by the electron bounce resonance.

  • Conditional sampling measurement is required for conditional averages as well as unconditional Favre averages to resolve different flame structures of turbulent combustion. A Favre average can be obtained as an integral of conditional average and Favre PDF in terms of the mixture fraction, which is a preferred choice as a sampling variable in diffusion controlled turbulent combustion. MILD combustion data are presented as an example for a conditionally averaged data set and comparison with CMC calculation results.

  • This paper deals with residual stress characteristics of ion-nitrided metal which is primarilly concerned with the effects of added carbon content in gas atmosphere. A small optimal amount of carbon content in gas atmosphere increase compound layer thickness, as well as to increase diffusion layer thickness and hardness. The residual stress and deflection of the specimens was measured in various elevated temperature at the surface of ion-nitrided metal and the internal stress distribution was calculated. It is found that compressive residual stress at the compound layer is largest at the compound layer, and decreases as the depth from the surface increases.

Important aerosol behavior mechanisms affecting the size distribution of aerosol particles include condensation, deposition, and coagulation. (omitted)

  • This paper presents the analytical solution of the fractional Fokker-Planck equation by Adomian decomposition method. By using initial conditions, the explicit solution of the equation has been presented in the closed form and then the numerical solution has been represented graphically. Two different approaches have been presented in order to show the application of the present technique. The present method performs extremely well in terms of efficiency and simplicity.

  • Protactinium contamination is a mayor issue in the thorium fuel cycle. We investigate, in this work, the consequences of Pa incorporation in vacancy defects and interstitials in Th, ThC and ThN. We calculate charge transfers and lattice distortions due to these incorporations as well as migration paths and energies involved in the diffusion of Pa.
