철강 용착금속 미세조직의 정량화 기법 검증 (Verification of Quantitative Evaluation Method for Ferritic Weld Metal Microstructure)

  • Quantitative evaluation was performed on the microstructure of flux-cored arc(FCA) weld metal using a method blown as IIW scheme. It was mainly intended to figure out any practical difficulties in applying this method and also to provide the consumable makers with basic guide line in developing FCA welding consumables far better properties. Assessment of the experimental results showed IIW scheme was quite reliable in the low heat input range where the acicular ferrite was a major constituent. However, in the high heat input range, some scatter was noticed as the other phases like grain boundary ferrite and Widmansttaten ferrite become dominant. It implies that the accuracy of IIW scheme depends on the faction of microstructural constituents and it become worse as the fraction of latter two phases increases. This tendency was discussed in terms of the characteristics of those two phases. In addition, base line microstructure of rutile type FCA weld metal was addressed for developing new FCA welding consumables intended for higher heat input welding.

사출성형 해석을 이용한 게이트 위치 최적화 (Optimization of Gate Location Using Computer-Aided Injection Molding Analysis)

  • 게이트 위치는 제품 품질 및 생산성 등에 큰 영향을 미치기 때문에 사출성형에 있어서 게이트 위치를 결정하는 것은 대단히 중요하며 이를 위하여 사출성형 CAE가 적용되고 있다. 사출성형 해석의 증가와 3차원 유한요소의 사용은 더 많은 계산 시간을 필요로 하게 되면서, 컴퓨터 자원을 적게 사용하면서도 빠른 시간 내에 게이트 위치 최적화를 수행하는 것은 중요한 이슈가 되었다. 본 논문에서는 유동 균형과 웰드라인을 고려하기 위하여 유동 거리에 기반한 최적화 기법을 제시하였다. 그리고 원판 형상의 모델에 적용하여 웰드라인이 응력집중이 예상되는 슬릿홀을 피하면서도 유동 균형을 유지하는 결과를 도출하였다.

충전해석에 의한 Plug Cover Housing 금형의 피드시스템 설계 (Designing Mold Feed Systems for Plug Cover Housing with Filling Analysis)

  • In this study, the optimum design of mold feed systems is determined for plug cover housing (PCH), which is a cover-assembly product that protects the wiring of automobile connectors. The design goal is to achieve the filling balance of the resin in the left and right covers while avoiding the occurrence of weld lines in the hinge as much as possible. For the optimization, an orthogonal array experiment and a main effect analysis of the design factors are performed, and the factors that cause the interactions with the two design characteristics are selected as the design variables. We present some design alternatives, i.e., some combinations of the design variables, and analyze the filling-simulation results, expected molding risk, and cost economics to select an optimum design solution among the design alternatives. In the optimal solution, the weld line is generated at a position outside the hinge, and the filling balance is also acceptable, showing that both design goals can be satisfied simultaneously despite conflicting with each other.

레이저 용접 판재의 피로거동 (The Fatigue Behavior of Laser Welded Sheet Metal)

  • For the Tailor Welded Blank sheet used for automobile body panel, the characteristics of fatigue strength and crack propagation behavior were studied. The thickness of specimen was machined to be same (0.9mm+0.9mm) and different (0.9mm+2.0mm). As a base test, mechanical properties around welding zone were examined. The results indicated that there were no significant decreases in mechanical properties, but hardness around welding bead is 2.3 times greater than base material. The fatigue strength was the highest when the loading direction was parallel to the welding direction, which was about 85% of tensile strength of base material. It was decreased by 8.5% when the thickness of specimen and base material was different, and it is increased by 25% when pre-strain was applied. The crack propagation rate was noticeable decreased around welding line and rapidly increased as it passed by welding line. Reviewing the shape of the crack propagation, crack width around welding line was wide around the welding zone due to retardation of crack growth, but it became narrow passing welding line due to decreased toughness.

Effect of Initial (Reference) Welding Current for Adaptive Control and It's Optimization to Secure Proper Weld Properties in Resistance Spot Welding

  • Many automotive companies are endeavoring to improve the quality of resistance spot welding by updating body-in-white (BIW) production line with adaptive control spot welding system to compensate the process disturbances such as gap, electrode wear, oxidized surfaces, poor fit up and adhesive etc. Most of the commercial adaptive weld controllers require proper "Initial Welding Schedule" or "Reference weld" to achieve compensation in welding parameters during real time welding. In this study, the compensation of a commercial adaptive weld controller had been observed and analyzed thoroughly for various process disturbances to find optimal initial welding schedule. It was observed that 90 percent of the expulsion current in constant current control as reference welding schedule conferred the maximum button diameter in adaptive control welding. Finally, effects of each disturbance in combined field disturbances system with adaptive control had also been confirmed with the design of experiment (DOE) by minitab(R)16 for combined disturbances situation and suitability of optimum initial weld current had also established with real body part validation test.

A Study on a Dual Electromagnetic Sensor System for Weld Seam Tracking of I-Butt Joints

  • The weld seam tracking system for arc welding process uses various kinds of sensors such as arc sensor, vision sensor, laser displacement sensor and so on. Among the variety of sensors available, electro-magnetic sensor is one of the most useful methods especially in sheet metal butt-joint arc welding, primarily because it is hardly affected by the intense arc light and fume generated during the welding process, and also by the surface condition of weldments. In this study, a dual-electromagnetic sensor, which utilizes the induced current variation in the sensing coil due to the eddy current variation of the metal near the sensor, was developed for arc welding of sheet metal I-butt joints. The dual-electromagnetic sensor thus detects the offset displacement of weld line from the center of sensor head even though there's no clearance in the joint. A set of design variables of the sensor was determined far the maximum sensing capability through the repeated experiments. Seam tracking is performed by correcting the position of sensor to the amount of offset displacement every sampling period. From the experimental results, the developed sensor showed the excellent capability of weld seam detection when the sensor to workpiece distance is near less than 5 ㎜, and it was revealed that the system has excellent seam tracking ability for the I-butt joint of sheet metal.
