  • Kriging interpolation is one of the generally used interpolation techniques in Geostatistics field. This technique includes the experimental and theoretical variograms and the formulation of kriging interpolation. In contrast to the conventional least square method for stress recovery, kriging interpolation is based on the weighted least square method to obtain the estimated exact solution from the stress data at the Gauss points. The weight factor is determined by variogram modeling for interpolation of stress data apart from the conventional interpolation methods that use an equal weight factor. In addition to this, the p-level is increased non-uniformly or selectively through a posteriori error estimation based on SPR (superconvergent patch recovery) technique, proposed by Zienkiewicz and Zhu, by auto mesh p-refinement. The cut-out plate problem under tension has been tested to validate this approach. It also provides validity of kriging interpolation through comparing to existing least square method.

  • In this paper, we analyze the generation of an image pyramid as a 2-dimensional decimation-interpolation process, and suggest a performance index of FIR filter for decimation and interpolation filter. Until now, most deciamtion and interpolation filters are designed via the approximation of the impulse response of an ideal filter. In this paper, however, we propose a new performance index that minimizes the maximum frequency-weighted mean square error between the desired and the generated interpolated signal, and propose an optimal half-band filter based on the proposed performance index as an example. Some simulation results with real images show that the proposed optimal half-band filter yields a higher PSNR as well as the more preferable image quality, in comparison with other currently used filters with the same computational complexity.

  • In this paper, a general Weighted Essentially Non-Oscillatory (WENO) interpolation is proposed and applied to a semi-Lagrangian method. The proposed method is based on the conservation law, and characteristic curves are used to complete the semi-Lagrangian method. Therefore, the proposed method satisfies conservation of mass and is free of the CFL condition which is a necessary condition for convergence. Using a several standard examples, the proposed method is compared with the third order Strong Stability Preserving (SSP) Runge-Kutta method to verify the high-order accuracy.

  • A lot of data which are used in environment analysis of air pollution have characteristics that are distributed continuously in space. In this point, the collected data value such as precipitation, temperature, altitude, pollution density, PM10 have spatial aspect. When geostatistical data analysis are needed, acquisition of the value in every point is the best way, however, it is impossible because of the costs and time. Therefore, it is necessary to estimate the unknown values at unsampled locations based on observations. In this study, spatial interpolation method such as local trend surface model, IDW(inverse distance weighted), RBF(radial basis function), Kriging were applied to PM10 annual average concentration of Seoul in 2005 and the accuracy was evaluated. For evaluation of interpolation accuracy, range of estimated value, RMSE, average error were analyzed with observation data. The Kriging and RBF methods had the higher accuracy than others.

  • In this paper, we propose a new method in which interpolation images are created by using a small number of axiai T2-weighted images instead of using many sectional images for 3D visualization of brain MR images. For image Interpolation, an important part of this process, we first segment a region of interest (ROI) that we wish to apply 3D reconstruction and extract the boundaries of segmented ROIs and MBR information. After the image size of interpolation layer is determined according to the changing rate of MBR size between top slice and bottom slice of segmented ROI, we find the corresponding pixels in segmented ROI images. Then we calculate a pixel's intensity of interpolation image by assigning to each pixel intensity weights detected by cube interpolation method. Finally, 3D reconstruction is accomplished by exploiting feature points and 3D voxels in the created interpolation images.

  • This paper deals with the design of feedback controllers which minimize the $H^{\infty}$-norm of the weighted sensitivity function. Using the Lagrange multiplier method and the Nevanlinna-Pick interpolation theory, an algorithm which stabilizes a plant and makes the output to track the reference signal is proposed..

  • A new computational program, which is based on the CIP/CCUP(Constraint Interpolation Profile/CIP Combined Unified Procedure) method, has been developed to numerically analyse sloshing phenomena dealt as multiphase-flow problems. For the convection terms of Navier-Stokes equations, the RCIP(Rational function CIP) method was adopted and the THINC-WLIC(Tangent of Hyperbola for Interface Capturing-Weighted Line Interface Calculation) method was used to capture the air/water interface. To validate the present numerical method, two-dimensional dam-breaking and sloshing problems in a rectangular tank were solved by the developed method in a stationary Cartesian grid system. In the case of sloshing problems, simulations by using a improved MPS(Moving Particle Simulation) method, which is named as PNU-MPS(Pusan National University-MPS), were also carried out. The computational results are compared with those of experiments and most of the comparisons are reasonably good.

  • Dipterocarps or Dipterocarpaceae is a commercially important timber producing and dominant keystone tree family in the rain forests of Borneo. Borneo's landscape is changing at an unprecedented rate in recent years which affects this important biodiversity. This paper attempts to model the natural occurrence (distribution including those areas with natural forests before being converted to other land uses as opposed to current distribution) of dipterocarp species in Sarawak which is important for forest biodiversity conservation and management. Local modeling method of Inverse Distance Weighting was compared with commonly used statistical method (Binary Logistic Regression) to build the best natural distribution models for three genera (12 species) of dipterocarps. Database of species occurrence data and pseudoabsence data were constructed and divided into two halves for model building and validation. For logistic regression modeling, climatic, topographical and edaphic parameters were used. Proxy variables were used to represent the parameters which were highly (p>0.75) correlated to avoid over-fitting. The results show that Inverse Distance Weighting produced the best and consistent prediction with an average accuracy of over 80%. This study demonstrates that local interpolation method can be used for the modeling of natural distribution of dipterocarp species. The Inverse Distance Weighted was proven a better method and the possible reasons are discussed.

  • Most digital cameras use a single image sensor with Color Filter Array(CFA) for the advantage of costs and speed. The various color interpolation(demosaicing) algorithms are researched to reconstruct a full representation of the image. In this paper, we proposed a method of demosaicing about using weighted directional filter for vertical, horizontal, and diagonal direction edge. The method considered the efficiency of hardware resources for hardware implementation. The performance of proposed method was confirmed by comparing the conventional method in experiments using 24 Kodak test images. The proposed method was designed by Verilog HDL and was verified by using Virtex4 FPGA boards and CMOS Image Sensor.

  • It has passed the era of Full High Definition Television (FHD) and ended the era of Ultra High Definition Television (UHD). We will talk about the problems caused by the difference in the number of pixels in the TVs and introduce a method to improve them. This method is a method of performing an interpolation method suitable for a given image with Weighted Essential Non-Oscillation (WENO). Thus, it is possible to reduce the distortion of the image and to ensure a better image quality. Therefore, if we use the WENO methodology, when we watch old video material on UHD TV, we can enjoy high definition of UHD TV without changing the number of pixels.
