  • This study was carried out to estimate the recreation carrying capacity of lawn areas in parks. Recreation carrying capacity in this study is composed of two parts, ecological carrying capacity and psychological carrying capacity. As the second part, this apper deals with the estimation of ecological carrying capacity based on user behavior. The study sites were located at Bomun Resort Complex in Kyungju, Korea. And the major species of the lawn areas was Zoysia japonica. The major results ar summarized as follows: 1. The mean numbers of user for the investigation days of peak season, were estimated as 792 people for the lawn area of Doturag World, and 588 people for Seorabul Plaza. The mean use time by user were 163 minutes and 197 minutes for each site. The weighted mean use time by each activity type(passive, active, and strolling) were estimated as 85 minutes, 45 minutes, and 50 minutes, respectively. 2. Forty kinds of diverse active recreation activities were classified into six types of activity categories. Male adults preferred "sports type" activities, whereas female adults and juveniles preferred "play type" activities. 3. Ecological carrying capacity for each level was estimated as 40.7㎡/man for optimum carrying capacity. And these values were calculated on the basis of total treading areas and treading time criteria for each carrying capacity level.

  • Rule-based classification analysis is widely used for massive datamining because it is easy to understand and its algorithm is uncomplicated. In this classification analysis, majority vote of rules or weighted combination of rules using their supports are frequently used in order to combine rules. We propose a method to combine rules by using the multinomial distribution in this paper. Iterative proportional fitting algorithm is used to estimate the multinomial distribution which maximizes entropy constrained on rules' support. Simulation experiments show that this method can compete with other well known classification models in the case of two similar populations.

  • This study proposes a mathematical model to estimate the economic value of weather forecast service, among which the precipitation forecast service is focused. The value is calculated in terms of users' satisfaction or dissatisfaction resulted from the users' decisions made by using the precipitation probabilistic forecasts and thresholds. The satisfaction values can be quantified by the traditional value score model, which shows the scaled utility values relative to the perfect forecast information. This paper extends the value score concept to a collective value score model which is defined as a weighted sum of users' satisfaction based on threshold distribution in a group of the users. The proposed collective value score model is applied to the picnic scenario by using four hypothetical sets of probabilistic forecasts, i.e., under-confident, over-confident, under-forecast and over-forecast. The application results show that under-confident type of forecasts outperforms the others as a measure of the maximum collective value regardless of users' dissatisfaction patterns caused by two types of forecast errors, e.g., miss and false alarm.

  • Today, satellite remote sensing (RS) and geographic information systems (GIS) plays an important role as an advanced science and technology. This study was developed a Line Density Algorithm which was clarify and describe the thermal front by using NOAA SST (sea surface temperature) and GIS spatial analysis for systemic and effective management of fish raising industry and sea environmental pollution by land reclamation program. Before this, a study about a interpolation method was carry out which was very important for estimate the hidden value between a special point. For this study Inverse Distance Weighted interpolation, Spline interpolation, Kriging interpolation methods were choose and SST data from 2001 to 2004 in spring (March, April, May) were analyzed. According to the study Kriging interpolation method was the very adaptive method from a practical point of view and excellent in description and precision then others. Finally, the result of this study will be use for develope the Line Density Index Algorism.

  • Model-based predictions of structural behavior are negatively affected by uncertainties of various type and in various stages of the structural analysis. The present paper focusses on dynamic analysis and addresses the effects of uncertainties concerning material and geometric parameters, mainly in the context of modal analysis of large-scale structures. Given the large number of uncertain parameters arising in this case, highly scalable simulation-based methods are adopted, which can deal with possibly thousands of uncertain parameters. In order to solve the reliability problem, i.e., the estimation of very small exceedance probabilities, an advanced simulation method called Line Sampling is used. In combination with an efficient algorithm for the estimation of the most important uncertain parameters, the method provides good estimates of the failure probability and enables one to quantify the error in the estimate. Another aspect here considered is the uncertainty quantification for closely-spaced eigenfrequencies. The solution here adopted represents each eigenfrequency as a weighted superposition of the full set of eigenfrequencies. In a case study performed with the FE model of a satellite it is shown that the effects of uncertain parameters can be very different in magnitude, depending on the considered response quantity. In particular, the uncertainty in the quantities of interest (eigenfrequencies) turns out to be mainly caused by very few of the uncertain parameters, which results in sharp estimates of the failure probabilities at low computational cost.

  • Structural damage identification (SDI) is a crucial step in structural health monitoring. However, some of the existing SDI methods cannot provide enough identification accuracy and efficiency in practice. A novel whale optimization algorithm (WOA) based method is proposed for SDI by weighting modal data and flexibility assurance criterion in this study. At first, the SDI problem is mathematically converted into a constrained optimization problem. Unlike traditional objective function defined using frequencies and mode shapes, a new objective function on the SDI problem is formulated by weighting both modal data and flexibility assurance criterion. Then, the WOA method, due to its good performance of fast convergence and global searching ability, is adopted to provide an accurate solution to the SDI problem, different predator mechanisms are formulated and their probability thresholds are selected. Finally, the performance of the proposed method is assessed by numerical simulations on a simply-supported beam and a 31-bar truss structures. For the given multiple structural damage conditions under environmental noises, the WOA-based SDI method can effectively locate structural damages and accurately estimate severities of damages. Compared with other optimization methods, such as particle swarm optimization and dragonfly algorithm, the proposed WOA-based method outperforms in accuracy and efficiency, which can provide a more effective and potential tool for the SDI problem.

  • This paper presents a novel time-domain method for the identification of plastic rotations and stiffness parameters of single-bay frames with nonlinear plastic hinges. Each plastic hinge is modelled as a pseudo-semi-rigid connection with nonlinear hysteretic moment-curvature characteristics at an element end. Through the comparison of the identified end rotations of members that are connected together, the plastic rotation that furnishes information of the locations and plasticity degrees of plastic hinges can be identified. The force consideration of the frame members may be used to relate the stiffness parameters to the elastic rotations and the excitation. The damped-least-squares method and damped-and-weighted-least-squares method are adopted to estimate the stiffness parameters of frames. A noise-removal strategy employing a de-noising technique based on wavelet packets with a smoothing process is used to filter out the noise for the parameter estimation. The numerical examples show that the proposed method can identify the plastic rotations and the stiffness parameters using measurements with reasonable level of noise. The unknown excitation can also be estimated with acceptable accuracy. The advantages and disadvantages of both parameter estimation methods are discussed.

  • Frequency response functions(FRF) are the most fundamental data for the frequency domain identifications of structural systems. In this paper, an improved method for estimating FRF's is presented. The new FRF estimator takes the weighted average of two conventional estimators, $H_1$(f) and $H_2$(f), utilizing the fact that $H_2$(f) gives more accurate estimate at resonance, while $H_1$(f) yields better results at antiresonances. Based on the estimated FRF's, the modal parameters of the structures, such as, natural frequencies, damping ratios and mode shapes, are also estimated. The effectiveness of the proposed method is investigated through numerical and experimental studies. The estimated results indicate that the proposed estimator gives more accurate results than other estimators.

  • A kind of Subjective Imaging Effect Assessment (SIEA) method and its applications on intelligent imaging terminal design in engineering site are presented. First, some visual assessment indices are used to characterize the imaging effect: the image brightness, the image brightness uniformity, the color image contrast, the image edge blur, the image color difference, the image saturation, the image noise, and the integrated imaging effect index. A linear weighted function is employed to carry out the SIEA computation and the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) technique is used to estimate its weights. Second, a SIEA software is developed. It can play images after the settings of assessment index or assessment reaction time, etc. Third, two cases are used to illustrate the application effects of proposed method: the image enhancement system design for surveillance camera and the imaging environment perception system design for intelligent lighting terminal. A Prior Sequential Stimulus (PSS) experiment is proposed to improve the evaluation stability of SIEA method. Many experiment results have shown the proposed method can realize a stable system design or parameters setting for the intelligent imaging terminal in engineering site.

  • Generally, higher brand equity ends up with higher market share and higher profitability. However, superior brand equity does not guarantee the success in the market. That is, consumer choice is closely related to brand equity but we need more than brand equity to explain this complex phenomenon. We adopt the customer equity concepts: value equity, brand equity, and retention equity. By incorporating value equity and retention equity into customer equity, it is possible to avoid the problems of using the brand equity only. In the paper, we apply this customer equity concepts to cellular phone and investigate the effects of antecedent variables such as exposure, knowledge, positive experience and negative experience on the components of customer equity. In addition, as surrogate measure of customer lifetime value, the weighted measure of purchase intention, consideration set inclusion, and next purchase is used as dependent variable. We estimate the effects of components of customer equity at the brand level and aggregate level using SURE model. Estimation results show that Apple has currently low market share but has high future potentials and Korean firms have currently high market share but has rather low future potentials.
