  • In this paper, efficient deployment method of sensors and target positioning performance with respect to measurement error are dealt with. Active sonar can be categorized into Monostatic, Bistatic, Multistatic sonar, and characteristics of respective sonar are different. Assuming that each sensor can receive range and angular information, we compare the performance of Monostatic, Bistatic, and Multistatic systems. And we suggest Weighted least square (WLS) which gives the weight to former case, LS. In particular. adopting suggested method we investigate the target positioning performance according to number of sensor, distance from transmitter to receiver, and propose efficient arrangement rule for Multistatic sonar configurations. According to the experimental results, RMSE of Multistatic sonar is found to be superior to Monostatic and Bistatic by 35.98%. 37.45% respectively, and WLS is superior to LS approximately by 7.4% in average. Furthermore, as the difference of respective sensor's variance is large, it is observed that the improvement ratio of target positioning performance is increased.

  • Error Concealment method for Intra frames in H.264 reconstructs the lost block by computing weighted average value of the boundary pixels of the neighboring blocks; up, bottom, left and right blocks. However a simple average of pixel values of the neighboring blocks for Intra frames in H.264 leads to excessive blurring and degrades the picture quality severely. To solve this problem, in this paper we estimate the dominant edge of lost block using the pixel values of the neighboring blocks and reconstruct the pixel values by choosing adaptive interpolation between directional interpolation and weighted average interpolation considering the result value of the interference function based on statistics. Finally directional interpolation method improves by determining the dominant edge direction considering the relation of the dominent edge and the edges of neighboring blocks. Experiments show improvement of picture quality of about $0.5{\sim}2.0dB$ compared with the method of H.264.

  • Recently heart attack is 80% of the sudden death of elderly. The causes of a heart attack are complex and sudden, and it is difficult to predict the onset even if prevention or medical examination is performed. Therefore, early diagnosis and proper treatment are the most important. In this paper, we show the accuracy of normal and abnormal classification with neural network using weighted fuzzy function for accurate and rapid diagnosis of myocardial infarction. The data used in the experiment was data from the UCI Machine Learning Repository, which consists of 14 features and 303 sample data. The algorithm for feature selection uses the average of weight method. Two features were selected and removed. Heart attack was classified into normal and abnormal(1-normal, 2-abnormal) using the average of weight method. The test result for the diagnosis of heart attack using a weighted fuzzy neural network showed 87.66% accuracy.

  • Load Duration Curve(LDC) is a useful tool for analyzing water quality characteristics under various stream flow conditions. This study investigated the methods to identify impaired waterbodies in the assessment of water quality goal attainment by using LDC for the management of Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs). Three methods were proposed. Non-typical regime exclusion method is a method to exclude water quality observations in the non-typical extreme flow conditions in order to minimize the influence of non-ordinary water quality. Flow regime weighted average method is a method to calculate weighted mean water quality instead of arithmetic mean in order to consider water characteristics properly on stream flow regime in addition to the effect of Non-typical regime exclusion method. Load exceeded interval comparison method is a method to compare the intervals between the attained and non-attained load duration periods on the LDC. The assessment of water quality goal attainment can be performed more reasonably and precisely considering water quality variations on stream flow conditions by applying these proposed methods.

  • When the cost-benefit analysis is applied for social discount rate(SDR), the choice of SDR to be used in analysis is critical. One of the important issues when public investment project evaluate what is the SDR theory, so there have studied about SDR and no exact answer it so far. In this study, there are three of SDR theories that be estimated social time preference rate, social investment returns and the weighted average method from 1990s, 2000 to 2003 and 2004 to 2008.. First, social time preference method computes consumer's interest rate and the model of Pearce and Ulph(1999). Second, social investment returns method computes private returns of capital. Third, the weighted average method computes the model of Squire, L., Herman G. van der Tak(1975) and private consumption expense and the private investment expense. SDR is estimated in the rage between 2.4% and 3.9% from 2004 to 2008. It is not appropriate that the interest rate was unstable. But it is consider for social equity from present to future generations. Considering this things, downward need to the value of current SDR 5.5%.

  • In today's process-oriented industries, such as semiconductor and petrochemical processes, autocorrelation exists between observed data. As a management method for the process where autocorrelation exists, a method of using the observations is to construct a batch so that the batch mean approaches to independence, or to apply the EWMA (Exponentially Weighted Moving Average) statistic of the observed value to the EWMA control chart. In this paper, we propose a method to determine the batch size of UBM (Unweighted Batch Mean), which is commonly used as a management method for observations, and a method to determine the optimal batch size based on ARL (Average Run Length) We propose a method to estimate the standard deviation of the process. We propose an improved control chart for processes in which autocorrelation exists.

  • The purpose of this study is an application of Lee's Menu Engineering (LME) method for menu analysis on the eight kinds of pizza selected from 17 kinds of pizza served by an Italian restaurant near by the Keimyung College University campus. The eliminated nine items were in the third quadrant or below the trend line. The LME method is more efficient than generally used methods such as the Miller, Kasavana & Smith, Uman, Pavesic and Merricks & Jones method. The LME method comprises reference lines and four quadrants created by x, y axes and its average values. The x and y axes comprise the sales ratio (MM%, percentage of the Menu Mix) and the weighted contribution margin (WCM%, percentage of the Weighted Contribution Margin) respectively. The obtained results are such that total sales increased by 1.59% from 58,747,200 won to 59,684,000 won, despite the decrease in sales volume. Total contribution margin also increased from 35,248,320 won to 35,810,400 won. The trend line also shows from y=0.9147x (R2=0.703) to y=0.9944x (R2=0.9893). These results indicate that the LME method is superior in practical applications.

  • In this paper, we suggest a noise estimation method for speech enhancement in nonstationary noisy environments. The proposed method consists of the following two main processes. First, in order to receive fewer affect of variable signals, a best fitting regression line is used, which is obtained by applying a least squares method to coefficient magnitudes in a node with a uniform wavelet packet transform. Next, in order to update the noise estimation efficiently, a differential forgetting factor and a correlation coefficient per subband are used, where subband is employed for applying the weighted value according to the change of signals. In particular, this method has the ability to update the noise estimation by using the estimated noise at the previous frame only, without utilizing the statistical information of long past frames and explicit nonspeech frames by voice activity detector. In objective assessments, it was observed that the performance of the proposed method was better than that of the compared (minima controlled recursive averaging, weighted average) methods. Furthermore, the method showed a reliable result even at low SNR.

  • In the one-way random effect model, we often estimate the variance components by the ANOVA method and then estimate the population mean. Whe there are only two distint group sizes, the conventional mean estimator is represented as a weighted average of two normal means with weights being the function of variance component estimators. In this paper, we will study a method which can compute the exact variance of the mean estimator when we set the negative variance component estimate to zero.

  • Background: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the usefulness of diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging for monitoring the response to radiation therapy in metastatic bone marrow of the spines. Materials and Methods: Twenty-one patients with metastatic bone marrow of the spines were examined with MRI. Diffusion-weighted and spin-echo MRI were performed in 10 patients before and after radiation therapy with or without systemic chemotherapy, and performed in 11 patients after radiation therapy alone. Follow up spin-echo and diffusion-weighted MRI were obtained at 1 to 6 months after radiation therapy according to patients' condition. The diffusion-weighted imaging sequence was based on reversed fast imaging with steady-state precession (PSIF). Signal intensity changes of the metastatic bone marrows before and after radiation therapy on conventional spin-echo sequence MRI and diffusion-weighted MRI were evaluated. Bone marrow contrast ratios and signal-to-noise ratios before and after radiation therapy of diffusion- weighted MRI were analyzed. Results: All metastatic bone marrow of the spinal bodies were hyperintense to normal bone marrow of the spinal bodies on pretreatment diffusion-weighted MRI and positive bone marrow contrast ratios(p<0.001), and hypointense to normal spinal bodies on posttreatment diffusion-weighted MRI and negative bone marrow contrast ratios(p<0.001). The signal to noise ratios after treatment decreased comparing with those of pretreatment. Decreased signal intensity of the metastatic bone marrows on diffusion-weighted MRI began to be observed at average more than one month after the initiation of the radiation therapy. Conclusion: These results suggest that diffusion-weighted MRI would be an excellent method for monitoring the response to therapy of metastatic bone marrow of the spinal bodies, however, must be investigated in a larger series of patients with longer follow up period.
