This study was carried out to investigate the changes in internal pressure according to various freezing methods, as basic research to protect the destruction of tissues when fruits and vegetables are frozen. The rate of weight loss, caused by the freezing of fruits and vegetables, was found to be the least (0.44∼1.38%) when the immersion freezing method was applied. The difference in the rate of weight loss was the highest when freezing methods were applied to watermelon, and the freezing rate of watermelon whose moisture contents were greater have relatively greater influence on the weight loss. The difference in internal pressures was the least and caused by the volume increase and decrease, when pear, apple, and melon were frozen using the immersion freezing method, while the diffeyence the greatest when the air-blast freezing method was used. As the freezing rate was greater, the internal pressure was less. However, the internal pressure of strawberry and watermelon was the greatest when the immersion freezing method was applied. Frozen without using the thermal equalizing method, the change in internal pressure of fruits was about 2 psig. In contrast, the internal pressure of watermelon applied with the thermal equalizing method was changed in a way similar to that of watermelon not applied with the method, but the former generated a certain level of internal pressure and maintained a significantly low level of internal pressure (about 1.3 psig). When thawed, the internal pressure of samples to which the thermal equalizing method was applied was less than that of what the thermal equalizing method was not applied to. In comparison with the application of multi-step thermal equalizing method, 3∼4 times of application of the thermal equalizing method to the freezing resulted in the decrease of fluctuation range of internal pressure.
In order to give a silk-like touch to PET fabrics, the PET fabrics were treated with NaOH alkaline solution in various conditions. In alkaline treatment, the liquor flow type pilot weight reduction apparatus with magnetostrictive ultrasonic transducer was used for the study. The weight loss of PET fabrics hydrolyzed in 4% and 6% NaOH solution, at $95^\circ{C}$ and $99^\circ{C}$ for 60min. with ultrasonic application showed 3.7~4.6% higher than that of treated fabric without ultrasonic application. From the difference of specific weight loss, the treatment condition of the maximum of hydrolyzation effect appeared at $95^\circ{C}$ in $4^\circ{C}$ and at $90^\circ{C}$ in 6% NaOH solution, respectively. During the alkali hydrolysis of PET fabrics, the decomposition rate constant(k) increased exponentially with the treatment temperature and were not related with ultrasonic cavitation. The activation energy$(E_a)$ in decomposition of PET fabrics were 21.06kcal/mol with ultrasonic application and 21.10kcal/mol without ultrasonic application. The ultrasonic application gave a little higher value of the activation entropy$(\Delta{S}^\neq)$ and a little lower value of Gibbs free energy$(\Delta{S}^\neq)$ compared with not used ultrasonic apparatus.

This experimental study on high strength lightweight concrete using compound materials has been performed. In which, expanded clay was used as coarse aggregate, and silica fume and fly ash as admixtures varying by 0, 10% and 0, 5, 10, 15, 20% of cement amount respectively were added. Thus, the properties of fresh and hardened concrete have been investigated. The results of this study can be summarized as follows ; Each slump loss of mixtures replaced fly ash has been decreased by increasing replacement rate. The compressive strength have shown 465, 428 and $401kgf/cm^2$ at 30, 40 and 50% of W/B in 28days respectively, all of which have satisfied the criterion $270kgf/cm^2$ of high strength lightweight concrete. The unit volume weight of hardened concrete has been decreased by increasing replacement rate of silica fume and fly ash, values of which have satisfied the criterion $2000kgf/cm^3$of light weight concrete.
The present study investigated the impact of parity 1 gilt body weight during late gestation (d 109) on subsequent reproductive performance of sows and performance of suckling pigs. A total of 2,404 farrowing records over 6 parities were divided into six groups on the basis of body weight (190, 200, 210, 220, 230, and 240 kg) at d 109 of gestation of 585 gilts. Significant effects (p<0.05) of body weight on sow retention rate was noticed, with the 210 kg group having the lowest culling rate and highest total number of piglets born alive over the 6 parities. With increase of body weight, a linear increase (p<0.05) in losses of body weight and backfat during the lactation period of parity 1 and a linear decrease (p<0.05) in backfat loss for parities 4 and 6 were found. Compared with light sows, heavy sows had higher (p<0.05) litter weight at birth for parities 1 and 2 and at weaning in parity 1. Sow weaning-to-estrus interval of sows was not influenced (p>0.05) by body weight. In conclusion, maintaining optimal body weight during gestation would be beneficial to sows and suckling piglets.
Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the change in weight and heart rate associated with the use of phentermine through meta-analysis based on the published literatures. Methods: Eight electronic databases, PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane library, and five domestic databases were used to search the literature. Randomized controlled trials that evaluated the change in weight and heart rate with the use of phentermine compared with placebo were included in this study. The fixed-effect model weighted by the Mantel-Haenszel method was used in the meta-analysis, and the random-effects model was used when heterogeneity was present. Results: We included 12 studies comprising 677 patients. The change in weight observed with the use of phentermine (SMD = -1.37, 95% CI: -1.55, -1.19) was statistically significant compared with that observed with placebo. As per the subgroup analysis results, the change in weight by publication year, country, phentermine dosage, follow-up check was not heterogeneous. The change in heart rate observed with the use of phentermine (SMD = 0.64, 95% CI: 0.35, 0.92) was significant compared with that observed with placebo. Conclusions: Weight loss and increased heart rate were confirmed in phentermine compared with placebo.
The prevalence of obesity has been increasing worldwide. Several dietary treatments have been suggested to control weight, and recent guidelines recommend individualizing the composition of macronutrients. Carbohydrates are the most important nutrients in meals, and carbohydrate restriction is a dietary strategy that promotes weight loss. A low-carbohydrate diet is effective for short-term weight loss and can help improve glycated hemoglobin, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, and triglyceride levels; however, the long-term effects and safety of this diet remains doubtful. In the short term, there is a risk of gastrointestinal symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, and gastroesophageal reflux, and type 1 diabetes patients are at risk of severe hypoglycemia, while in the long term, it can lead to malnutrition and decreased exercise capacity. Thus, rather than limiting the intake of carbohydrates, it is important to limit the intake of refined grains, sugar, honey, syrup, and sweetened beverages while maintaining the planned carbohydrate intake rate and improving meal quality.
Fifty-four PIC barrows were used to evaluate the effects of lower dietary lysine content and energy level on carcass characteristics and meat quality in slaughter pigs. Pigs were allotted to one of three treatments by body weight with six replicate pens in each treatment. The dietary treatments for body weights of 20-50 kg, 50-80 kg and 80-90 kg were as follows, respectively: control diet (digestible energy 14.22 MJ/kg, lysine/DE 0.67 g/MJ, 0.53 g/MJ and 0.42 g/MJ); a low lysine group (digestible energy 14.22 MJ/kg, lysine/DE 0.49, 0.38 and 0.30 g/MJ); and a low lysine-low energy group or low nutrient group (digestible energy 13.11 MJ/kg, lysine/DE 0.49, 0.38 and 0.30 g/MJ). The daily weight gain, daily feed intake and feed efficiency were calculated in the overall growth period (nearly 12 weeks). Meanwhile, carcass characteristics and meat quality were evaluated at 60 and 90 kg body weight respectively. During the overall growth trial, lowering dietary lysine and nutrient level both decreased weight gain (p<0.05) and feed efficiency (p<0.01). At 60 kg body weight, decreasing dietary lysine and nutrient level noticeably decreased dressing percentage (p<0.01) and back fat depth at last rib of PIC pigs (p<0.01), but enhanced marbling scores (p<0.10), intramuscular fat content (p<0.10) and water loss rate (p<0.01) of the longissimus dorsi muscle. At 90 kg body weight, lean percentage (p<0.01) was evidently reduced by both lowering lysine content and nutrient level in the diet. However, the shoulder back fat depth (p<0.05) and marbling scores of the loin eye muscle (p<0.05) were increased; Lowering dietary nutrient level could improve back fat depth of 10th rib (p<0.01) and last rib (p<0.01), intramuscular fat content (p<0.10), redness (p<0.01) and water loss rate of the loin eye muscle (p<0.05), but decrease loin area (p<0.05). Finally, when comparing the 60 kg and 90 kg slaughter weights, it was found that the shoulder back fat depth (p<0.01, p<0.10), 6th-7th rib (p<0.01, p<0.01), 10th-rib (p<0.01, p<0.01) and last rib back fat depth (p<0.01, p<0.01) of the low lysine and low nutrient group were all obviously increased comparing with the control group. Taken together, the results showed that decreasing dietary lysine content and nutrient level increased intramuscular fat content and water loss rate of longissimus dorsi muscle; On the other hand, both lowering dietary lysine and nutrient level markedly compensated to increase back fat deposition in the later finishing period (body weight from 60 to 90 kg) in contrast to the control group.
Egg has been considered as one of the most important food sources in both nutritionally and economically. However, because the hazards of egg flow chains' complexity from producers to consumers and the insufficiency of cold chain systems in Korea are still remained, preventive measures for egg safety should be established. This experiment was carried out to investigate the changes of egg qualify during storage in order to find out the proper storage condition and eggshell treatment. Eggs were stored at cold condition $(5^{\circ}C,\;relative\;humidity;\;RH:\;65\pm3\%)$ and room Condition $(1st: Sep\; 6\~Nov\; 15,\;2001,\; 10\~30^{\circ}C,\;RH\;41\~86\%,\;2nd;\; Dec\;13,\;2001\~Feb\;21,\;2002,\;4\~23^{\circ}C,\;RH\;36\~89\%)$ after eggshell treatment (unwashed, washed and coated egg) during'10 weeks and examined weight loss and interior quality periodically. Weight loss was in decreasing order room washed > room unwashed > cold washed > cold unwashed > room coated > cold coated egg. And, Haugh unit was decreasing order room washed > room unwashed > room coated > cold washed > cold unwashed > cold coated egg. Our findings show that both coated eggs and refrigeration reduces the rate of decline in Haugh units and egg weight. And, washed eggs had lower average Haugh units and a higher weight loss than any of the eggshell treatment in both storage conditions. Conclusively, for washing eggshell, 150 ppm of sodium hypochlorite, regular exchange and temperature control of water should be consistent and also eggs should be dried immediately after washing. Also, national guidelines for temperature and moisture of storage places, transportation and expiration data should be established to keep quality and weight loss of eggs. Storage temperature that is a critical factor in the quality and safety of eggs should be kept under 12'c and labelling of expiration date should be obligatory.

The old technique of sandblasting which has been used for decoration of glass surface has recently been developed into a powder blasting technique for brittle materials such as glass, silicon and ceramics, capable of producing micro structures larger than 100${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. In this study, we introduced oblique powder blasting, and investigated the effect of the impacting angle of particles, the scanning times and the stand-off distance on the surface roughness and the weight-loss rate of samples with no mask, and the wall profile and overetching of samples with different mask pattern in powder blasting of soda-lime glass. The varying parameters were the different impact angles between 50$^{\circ}$ and 90$^{\circ}$, scanning times of nozzle up to 40 and the stand-off distances 70mm and 100mm. The widths of mask pattern were 0.2mm, 0.5mm and 1mm. The powder was alumina sharp particles, WA #600. The mass flow rate of powder during the erosion test was fixed constant at 175g/min and the blasting pressure of powder at 0.2Mpa.
The corrosion damage of materials in marine environment mainly occurs by Cl- ions due to the breakdown of passive films. Additionally, various characteristics in seawater such as salinity, temperature, immersion time, flow rate, and biological activity also affect corrosion characteristics. In this study, the corrosion characteristics of stainless steels (STS 304 and STS 316L) and anodized aluminum alloys (AA 3003 and AA 6063) were evaluated with seawater temperature parameters. A potentiodynamic polarization experiment was conducted in a potential range of -0.25 V to 2.0 V at open circuit potential (OCP). Corrosion current density and corrosion potential were obtained through the Tafel extrapolation method to analyze changes in corrosion rate due to temperature. Corrosion behavior was evaluated by measuring weight loss before/after the experiment and also observing surface morphology through a scanning electronic microscope (SEM) and 3D microscopy. Weight loss, maximum damage depth and pitting damage increased as seawater temperature increased, and furthermore, the tendency of higher corrosion current density with an increase of temperature attributed to an increase in corrosion rate. There was lower pitting damage and lower corrosion current density for anodized aluminum alloys than for stainless steels as the temperature increased.
