Synthesis of Various Functional Block Copolymers via Controlled Ring Opening Metathesis Polymerization and the Subsequent Chemical Modifications

  • Several polynorbornene or poly(norbornene-7-oxide) based functional block copolymers were synthesized by ring opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) with good molecular weight and polydispersity control. Some representative functional groups in these polymers are a nitrobenzoyl group or ferrocene. These polymers were subjected to various chemical modification reactions to give other block copolymers that contain novel functionality such as amine, diazonium salt, and diazo groups. The resulting polymers were characterized by various techniques such as GPC, NMR, UV-VIS, AFM, and cyclovotammography (CV).

적하수오 추출물이 고콜레스테롤 급여 흰쥐의 지질대사에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Polygonum multiflorum Thunberg Extract on Lipid Metabolism in Rats Fed High-Cholesterol Diet)

  • 본 실험은 적하수오를 식이에 0.5%, 1% 혼합하여 5주간 섭취시켰을 때 적하수오가 고 콜레스테롤 식이를 장기 급여한 SD rat의 지질대사에 미치는 영향을 확인함으로써 적하수오의 기능성식품 소재로서의 가능성을 확인하였다. 실험기간 중 실험쥐의 체중증가는 1% cholesterol을 첨가한 그룹에서 cholesterol 대조군(II)에 비해서 적하수오를 섭취시킨 V군(1% cholesterol, 0.5% 적하수오), VI군(1% cholesterol, 1% 적하수오)에서 유의적으로 감소하였다. 장기무게는 SD rat의 간 무게가 cholesterol 식이군(II, V, VI) 모두에서 정상식이보다 유의적으로 증가하였으나 신장과 비장의 무게는 유의적인 차이를 나타내지 않았다. 혈청 내 포도당 농도는 정상군과 1% cholesterol 식이군 모두 0.5%, 1% 적하수오를 식이로 섭취시킨 그룹에서 유의적으로 감소하는 경향을 나타냈으며, 총 cholesterol과 HDL-cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol 모두에서 유의적인 차이는 나타나지 않았으나 총 cholesterol과 LDL-cholesterol은 수치상 감소하는 경향을 나타내었다. 하지만 비율로 보았을 때 적하수오를 보충급여한 군의 HDL-cholesterol 비율이 LDL-cholesterol 비율보다 유의적으로 증가하는 경향을 나타냈고 동맥경화지수 또한 적하수오 보충 공급한 그룹에서 낮아지는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 혈중 중성지방의 농도는 일반식이군과 1% cholesterol 급여군 모두에서 적하수오 추가 급여군이 유의적으로 감소하는 경향을 나타냈고 ALT와 AST 활성은 유의적 차이를 나타내지 않았다. 본 실험의 결과에서 적하수오는 혈청 내 포도당 농도를 유의적으로 감소시켰다. 또한 중성지방의 농도도 유의적으로 감소시켰으며, HDL-cholesterol 비율이 LDL-cholesterol 비율보다 유의적으로 증가하는 경향을 나타냈고, 동맥경화지수 또한 적하수오 보충 공급한 그룹에서 낮아지는 것으로 보아 적하수오가 혈관계 장애로 인해 발병되는 고혈압, 당뇨, 뇌혈관질환, 동맥경화증과 같은 질환을 예방하는데 영향을 미칠 것으로 생각되며 기능성식품소재로서의 가능성이 기대된다.

Bacillus subtilis JM3 단백분해효소로 속성제조한 멸치액젓 저분자 peptide의 기능성 (Functionality of Low Molecular Weight Peptides of Acceleratedly Manufactured Anchovy Sauce with Bacillus subtilis JM3 Protease)

  • 본 연구는 B. subtilis JM3 단백분해효소 첨가 멸치액젓에서 분리한 peptide의 기능성(항산화, 항암 및 ACE 저해활성)에 대하여 분석하였으며, 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 아미노실소 및 가수분해도는 단백분해효소 첨가구가 대조구에 비해 높았으며, 대조구, B. subtilis JM3 단백분해효소 2 및 4% 첨가구의 멸치액젓은 gel chromatography 상에서, 각각 5, 6 및 7개의 peak를 나타내었다. ACE 저해, DPPH 라디칼소거 및 항암활성은 대조구의 경우 peak 5에서 각각 34.82, 94.11 및 38.29%, 2% 효소 첨가구는 peak 6에서 각각 43.75, 90.01 및 15.61%로 4% 효소 첨가구는 peak 7에서 각각 26.34, 97.00 및 34.76%이었다. 가수분해시 생성된 peptide는 다양한 생리활성을 가지고 있었으며, 앞으로 생리활성을 갖는 peptide의 구조 분석에 관한 연구 및 그 억제 기작에 대한 더 많은 연구가 필요하다고 본다.

흡착제로서 숯의 이용 가능성에 대한 연구 (A study of the Possibility of the Charcoal as Desiccant)

  • The aims of this study are to find out the possibility of the charcoal as a desiccant. The only humidity control under high temperature and high humidity environment can be provided to the thermal comfort at indoor environment. Functionality of charcoal is known to be deodorization, antiseptic effect, filtering effect and humidity control. But research related to humidity control in the country not yet. Thus, the dehumidification capacity of the charcoal experimental results to see the results were as follows : 1) Entering the experimental humidification is 148.02 g/h, 161.05 g/h and 243.2 g/h when air velocity was changed 1.5 m/s, 1.7 m/s and 2.0 m/s. 2) When the basis weight of the charcoal 2.0 m/s air velocity to obtain the largest number of adsorption capacity. 3) Dru bulb temperature and dew point temperature ware measured at front and rear of the charcoal. Absolute humidity is calculated from the measured Dry bulb temperature and dew point temperature. The quantity of dehumidification is calculated from absolute humidity is the largest 129.6 g/h at the air velocity 2.0 m/s.

Probiotic Property and Anti-Obesity Effect of Lactiplantibacillus plantarum KC3

  • Lactic acid bacteria are representative probiotics that have beneficial effects on humans. Nineteen strains among the 167 single strains from kimchi was selected and their physiological features were investigated. The selection of a strain was based on strong enzyme (lipase, α-amylase, and α-glucosidase) inhibitory activities and anti-obesity effects in the adipocytes. For the final selection, the strain Lactiplantibacillus plantarum KC3 was tested for its potential as a starter. To assess its functionality, a freeze-dried culture of L. plantarum KC3 was administered to a diet-induced obese mouse model receiving a high-fat diet. The animal group administered with L. plantarum KC3 showed significant body weight loss during the 12-week feeding period compared to the high-fat control group. This study investigated the physiological characteristics of selected strain and evaluated its potential as an anti-obesity probiotic in mice.

Creating Knowledge from Construction Documents Using Text Mining

  • A number of documents containing important and useful knowledge have been generated over time in the construction industry. Such text-based knowledge plays an important role in the construction industry for decision-making and business strategy development by being used as best practice for upcoming projects, delivering lessons learned for better risk management and project control. Thus, practical and usable knowledge creation from construction documents is necessary to improve business efficiency. This study proposes a knowledge creating system from construction documents using text mining and the design comprises three main steps - text mining preprocessing, weight calculation of each term, and visualization. A system prototype was developed as a pilot study of the system design. This study is significant because it validates a knowledge creating system design based on text mining and visualization functionality through the developed system prototype. Automated visualization was found to significantly reduce unnecessary time consumption and energy for processing existing data and reading a range of documents to get to their core, and helped the system to provide an insight into the construction industry.

Effect of dual-type oligosaccharides on constipation in loperamide-treated rats

  • BACKDROUND/OBJECTIVE: Constipation is a condition that can result from intestinal deformation. Because humans have an upright posture, the effects of gravity can cause this shape deformation. Oligosaccharides are common prebiotics and their effects on bowel health are well known. However, studies of the physiological functionality of a product that contains both lactulose and galactooligosaccharides are insufficient. We investigated the constipation reduction effect of a dual-type oligosaccharide, Dual-Oligo, in loperamide-treated rats. MATERIALS/METHODS: Dual-Oligo consists of galactooligosaccharides (15.80%) and lactulose (51.67%). Animals were randomly divided into four groups, the normal group (normal), control group (control), low concentration of Dual-Oligo (LDO) group, and high concentration of Dual-Oligo (HDO) group. After 7 days of oral administration, fecal pellet amount, fecal weight, watercontent of fecal were measured. Blood chemistry, short-chain fatty acid (SCFA), gastrointestinal transit ratio and length and intestinal mucosa were analyzed. RESULTS: Dual-Oligo increased the fecal weight, and water content of feces in rats with loperamide-induced constipation. Gastrointestinal transit ratio and length and area of intestinal mucosa significantly increased after treatment with Dual-Oligoin loperamide-induced rats. A high concentration of Dual-Oligo tended to produce more acetic acid than that observed for the control group, and Dual-Oligo affected the production of total SCFA. Bifidobacteria concentration of cecal contents in the high-concentration oligosaccharide (HDO) and low-concentration oligosaccharide (LDO) groups was similar to the result of the normal group. CONCLUSIONS: These results showed that Dual-Oligo is a functional material that is derived from a natural food product and is effective in ameliorating constipation.

클로렐라 분말을 첨가한 옐로우 레이어 케이크의 품질 특성 (Quality Characteristics of Yellow Layer Cake Containing Different Amounts of Chlorella Powder)

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the baking characteristics of yellow layer cake containing chlorella powder. Chlorella at concentrations of 0, 4, 8, 12, and 16%(w/w) wheat powder were added, after which we evaluated the baking characteristics, physical properties, and sensory properties of the resulting cakes. Regarding the weight and volume of the cakes, the treatment groups were similar. However, control showed a high hardness value while 16% chlorella added cake showed a significantly low value. The 4% and 8% chlorella added groups maintained their structural condition while the 12% and 16% chlorella added groups were softer depending on the protein content of the flour, Lightness(L value) and yellowness(b value) of the cake crumbs became lower depending on the concentration of chlorella, whereas redness(a value) decreased. In the sensory test, the acceptability scores of the 12% and 16% chlorella added groups were lower compared to control while the 4% and 8% chlorella added groups had higher scores. Therefore, chlorella powder added yellow layer cake exhibited more functionality as well as higher quality.

뽕잎 분말 함유 어묵의 품질 특성 (Quality Characteristics of fish Meat Paste Containing Mulberry Leaf Powder)

  • This study was conducted in order to promote the utilization of fish meat paste added mulberry leaf powder(EPM) as food. The tested concentrations of mulberry leaf powder were 0, 0.1, 3, 0.5 and Ito The weight of the fish meat paste with FPM was heavier than the control(p<0.001). Oil absorption was the highest in the one with $0.3\%$ mulberry leaf powder, The It a and b values of the fish meat paste were decreased as increasing the concentration of mulberry leaf powder in Hunter color value(p<0.001). Good flexibility was shown not only in the control but also in the one with FPM in folding test. In texturometer test, the hardness was increasing, but the cohesiveness, springiness, gumminess, and brittleness were decreasing in according to increasing the concentration of mulberry leaf powder. In sensory evaluation, color and oily taste were getting higher as increasing the concentration of mulberry leaf powder. The fish meat paste added with $0.5\%$ mulberry leaf powder showed the highest acceptance scores in flavor, texture and overall quality. The result suggest that mulberry leaf powder can be applied to fish meat paste for both quality and functionality.

천마의 일반 성분과 기능성 조사 (Composition and Functionality of Chonma)

  • 최근에 난과 식물에 속하는 천마의 농가재배가 성공함에 따라 천마를 이용한 음용차의 개발 등이 추진되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 천마의 성분을 분석하였고 Sprague-Dawely (SD) rat을 이용하여 천마의 기능성을 조사하였다. 사용된 건조 천마는 수분 11.8, 조단백질 7.6, 회분 3.2, 조지방 0.5, 조섬유 3.9, 조탄수화물 72.9%(w/w) 로 분석되었다. 무기질 함량은 칼슘 121, 나트륨 83, 철 6.2, 인 170, 마그네슘 69, 칼륨 1,278 mg% 수준 이었다. SD rat에 분말 천마가 0, 0.15, 1.5, 5.0% 첨가된 chow diet를 4주간 섭식시키며 실험한 결과 실험군간에 몸무게의 유의적인 차이는 없었으며 혈중 콜레스테롤은 5% 섭취군이 49.3 mg/dl로서 대조군 (63.7 mg/dl)에 비하여 현저히 저하되었다. 0.15% 첨가군은 가장 높은 진정 효과를 나타내었다. 천마 식이는 본 연구에서 조사된 대장의 상재 균총조성에는 큰 영향이 없었고 대장 내용물의 ${\beta}-glucuronidase$ 활성 수준도 유의적 변화가 나타나지 않았다. ${\beta}-Glucosidase$의 경우에는 5%첨가군이 대조군에 비하여 유의적으로 높았다.
