Mashup Application for Geo-spatial Feature Generation on Web Browser using Google Maps API

  • In these days, various kinds of web applications based on web 2.0 paradigm have been developed. In web 2.0 paradigm pursuing participation, sharing, and openness on the web-as-platform, web mapping or web GIS application are regarded as top most applications, so that web applications, handling geo-spatial contents, with user-interaction interface and search engine of high performance have been provided for both public users and expert users in the special domains. Public and industrial needs for web mapping mashup application by open API, linked with the practical web computing technologies, are gradually increasing. In this study, a user interface in mashup for geo-spatial feature generation was implemented by using mainly Google maps API. Spatial database resources in this implementation are those of Google mapping server. As the results, public users on web client can create their own geo-spatial data sets in web vector formats, without the help of any GIS tools or access to proprietary databases. It is concluded that web-based mashup application in client-side using open API can be used as an alternative for geo-browsing system or portable feature generation system.

  • Because web documents become creation and disappearance rapidly, users require the recommend system that offers users to browse the web document conveniently and correctly. One largely untapped source of knowledge about large data collections is contained in the cumulative experiences of individuals finding useful information in the collection. Recommendation systems attempt to extract such useful information by capturing and mining one or more measures of the usefulness of the data. The existing Information Filtering system has the shortcoming that it must have user's profile. And Collaborative Filtering system has the shortcoming that users have to rate each web document first and in high-quantity, low-quality environments, users may cover only a tiny percentage of documents available. And dynamic recommendation system using the user browsing pattern also provides users with unrelated web documents. This paper classifies these web documents using the similarity between the web documents under the web document type and extracts the user browsing sequential pattern DB using the users' session information based on the web server log file. When user approaches the web document, the proposed Dynamic recommendation system recommends Top N-associated web documents set that has high similarity between current web document and other web documents and recommends set that has sequential specificity using the extracted informations and users' session information.

  • In image coding applications such as web browsing and image database searching, it is very useful to quickly view a small portion of the image with higher quality. Region of interest (ROI) coding technique provides the capability to reconstruct the ROI in advance of decompressing the rest of the image, with a smaller number of transmitted bits compared to the case where the entire image is treated with the same priority. In this paper, a progressive ROI coding method using the enbedded coder is presented, and an efficient transmission method for the ROI information. Experimental results show that the proposed progressive ROI coding technique can be effectively used for image coding applications such as web browsing and image database searching system.

  • Nowadays, in many mobile device environment, while the demand for using web service is increasing, there are many limitations on web-browsing in wireless network because of various restrictions and problems in reality. We need improvement in function of mobile web service engine because we can't be satisfied with the multiple demands by using previous capacity of web server in rapidly changing web environment. Therefore, this paper improves the service environment for web service users by introducing intermediary technology to web service. This paper embodies intermediary based web service framework for improvement of the function of mobile web service and for the interoperability of mobile device and web server.

  • XML and Web Services draw a lot of attention as standard technologies for data exchange and integration among heterogeneous platforms XML/A, which supports such technologies, is a SOAP based XML APl that facilitates data exchange between a client application and a data analysis engine through the Internet. The fact that the XML format is used for data exchange makes XML/A to be platform-independent. However. client application developers have to go through a tedious Job of treating the same type of XML documents fur downloading data from the server. Also, an XML query language is needed for extracting data from the XML documents sent by the server. In this paper, we present a high level client OLAP API, called DXML, for the client application developers in the windows environment to easily use the OLAP services of XML/A. XMLMD consists of properties and methods needed for OLAP application development. XMLMD is to XML/A what ADOMD is to OLEDB for OLAP. We also present a web OLAP cube browser that is developed using XMLMD. The browser display's data in various formats such as XML, HTML, Excel, and graph.

  • As the growing popularity of smartphones, mobile web browsing has become one of the most important and popular applications in mobile devices. Furthermore, it is clear that the demand for PC-like full browser performance on mobile devices is increasing greatly. WebKit is an open source web browser engine adopted by Google Android. This paper proposed a technique of increasing the performance of WebKit by paralleling its libraries. This method was applied to JPEG library and the performance evaluation was conducted in PC environment. The results was used to estimate the performance prediction on multi-core mobile embedded architecture and to show the feasibility of the proposed method to estimate the performance gain on heterogeneous multi-core embedded architecture.

User's emotion while browsing 3D web interfaces (3D 웹 인터페이스 브라우징에서의 사용자 감성어휘 도출)

  • This paper examines users' emotion from both 2D and 3D web interfaces and finds their differences. First, 77 words representing users' emotion were collected from the previous research papers. Second, a web survey system was developed using these collected words and prepared 3 web interface prototypes to collect users' emotions from different types of web interfaces. Finally, a web survey was conducted and its results were analyzed. The result of the survey showed that there were emotional words that were commonly experienced from either 2D or 3D web interfaces. However, it also showed that there were emotional differences between 2D and 3D web interface; 3D web interfaces provide users with specific emotional experiences because of their own characteristics - depth and dynamic movement. It is believed that the words collected from the survey could be the criteria to evaluate the quality of the 3D web interfaces and encourage the research on users' emotion from 3D interfaces.

Correlations between Users' Characteristics and Preferred Features of Web-Based OPAC Evaluation

  • This paper examines the correlations between user characteristics and their perferences for two selected features of Web-based OPAC systems. User characteristics identified in this study were age, gender, educational status, computer skills and OPAC experience. Usability features included interaction styles, character and image on screen, browsing and navigating style, screen layout, and ease of learning, whereas availability features attended to availability of information, quality of information and up-to-date information. Individual variables and features are described, and the correlation between the variables and the features are explored using Pearson's correlation coefficient(r). Although based on a small-scale sample survey, a considerably large number of statistically significant correlations were found between the users' characteristics and the selected evaluation features of interactive Web-based OPACs. From these observations, it seems to be suitable to recommend that system designers should make a more considered appraisal of the users' demographic characteristics in the design of the new generation of OPAC such as in user-tailored interactive Web-based OPAC systems.

Web-based Information Management for Korean Traditional Building Materials

  • Traditional methods and materials used for Korean buildings need to be well organized and managed so that they can be utilized in modernization of old buildings. Supporting web-based management of information of Korean traditional building materials helps spread the related knowledge. This paper identifies the characteristics of traditional building materials data, and develops an information structure to represent the related information effectively. It also describes design decisions on web-based user interfaces to support flexible browsing and retrieval of the managed data. As the traditional building data are described by old domain-specific technical terms, utility of the developed service might be limited to those who are familiar with the terms. As an approach to tackle this problem, the proposed system supports user tagging by allowing users to classify the stored information using their own terms, and also to retrieve data using the user-supplied tags.

  • 최근 휴대폰을 이용해 URL을 입력하여 PC와 동일한 웹사이트에 접근할 수 있는 '풀 브라우징(Full Browsing) 서비스'가 전 세계적으로 각광받으며 급성장하고 있다. 그러나 급격한 시장 성장 수준에도 불구하고 서비스에 대한 평가기준이나 평가척도의 개발은 느리게 진행되고 있어, 사용자의 요구사항과 서비스 만족도에 대한 평가기준의 마련이 요구되고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 풀 브라우징 서비스 사용자에 대한 실증연구를 통하여 풀 브라우징 서비스에 대한 고객 만족도 평가체계를 제시하였다. 이는 사용자가 풀 브라우징 서비스에서 중요하게 인식하는 요소들이 무엇인지 제시하고, 향후 고객 유지 및 신규 고객 창출에 영향을 미치는 마케팅 전략 수립에 활용할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.
