This study analyzed the self-identified cold tolerance and wearing behavior of teenagers inside and outside the classroom during winter, considering recent climate changes. A questionnaire was divided into four parts-general information, thermal and comfort sensation inside and outside classroom, self-identified cold tolerance, and wearing behavior to collect data from 322 students. Over several years, changes were noted in respondents' wearing behavior during winter outings, with the biggest being the purchase of a "long padded jacket" for warmth while outside. Most respondents showed similar wearing behavior, such as no difference between the number of clothes worn in a classroom maintained at 20℃ (girls: 8.0±3.1 layer, boys: 6.5±2.1 layer) and outside (girls: 8.8±3.4 layer, boys: 7.1±3.0 layer), despite feeling differently about the thermal sensation inside and outside the classroom. This difference may due to a teenager's lack of knowledge about temperature and their tendency to follow clothing trends. Female students were more sensitive to the cold and wore more garments inside and outside the classroom. Gender-related differences should be considered when educating teenagers about safe and healthy clothing.
The purpose of this study was to better assess and understand current needs and wearing sensation, including clothing behavior for early elderly women in the Korea and USA. The subjects in this study were 135 and 173 early elderly women in the Korea and USA. This research was done by a survey method and chi-square test. The major objectives of this study were as follows; First, it was found that the early elderly women of Korea utilize mostly human information as information source when purchasing clothing, whereas those of USA mostly media information. The women of Korea were found to put most emphasis in esthetic aspects of clothing, whereas those of USA in comfort. The most frequently worn clothes by the early elderly women of Korea were jumper, T-shirt and slacks, whereas jacket, sweater and slacks by those of USA. As for skirt, flare skirt was highly preferred in Korea, whereas A-line skirt in USA. Second, regarding the wearing sensation of ready-made clothing, the wearing sensation of jacket was found to be worst on the shoulder in Korea, whereas on the waist in USA. And the early elderly women of both Korea and USA had poor wearing sensations due to the length of sleeve, of trouser, of skirt and of one-piece dress. The comparison of the clothing behavior and wearing sensation of the early elderly women between Korea and USA showed a greater difference in clothing behavior than in wearing sensation.
This study was conducted to investigate the effects of wearing behavior of clothing and dietary behavior, and psychological characteristics on the obese children. For this purpose, the questionnaire method was used and the subjects were 1,501 elementary school children in the 4th to the 6th grade and their mothers (1,459), in Seoul, Busan, Daegu, Gwangju, and Andong cities. The children were divided into two groups, such as a normal weight group (NWG) and an obese group (OG). There were significant differences in adaptability to the cold and the heat, and in wearing behavior of clothing for body shape between NWG and OG. Scores for balanced dietary behavior was higher in OG than in NWG while dietary control perceived by their mothers was better in NWG than in OG. Stress was lower and self-esteem was higher in NWG than in OG. Experimental tests are needed to analyze the behavior of obese children on the basis of the obtained results of this study.
Studying awareness, importance, satisfaction, and wearing behavior of functional textiles for active silver generation related with gender and age is expected to contribute to clothing products development to improve and maintain their health and marketing strategy fit for user characteristics. For empirical research, a survey was developed and the aged 50 and above were 332 respondents. The results of the study are as follows. First, silver generation considered all the clothing comfort sensations important when wearing clothes, such as tactile sensation, clothing pressure sensation, thermal/wet sensation, and motion sensation in human physiological aspect. Also, stretchy fabrics were ranked first in awareness, the number of wearing times, and satisfaction of comfort functional fabrics. More than 30% of silver generation have fifteen items out of 36 functional clothes. Second, in analysis of awareness by gender on functional clothing products, women were more aware of health/safety-oriented fabrics than men were. Otherwise, men had more knowledge about the water-related properties of functional fabrics than women have, such as water/moisture absorptive and water-repellent/vapor permeable fabrics. While women have more indoor casual wear, men had more active sportswear. Also, women expressed a strong preference to the stretchy function of fabrics.
The purpose of this study was, accordingly, to examine male college student's general body consciousness and their actual condition of wearing clothing, as it's assumed that clothing, which everyone must always wear, might be effective in making up for the physical defect. The findings of this study were as follows : 1. Male College Students'Body Consciousness : They expressed some dissatisfaction with their own body, and they were most discontented with their height, among their bodies. They thought of the western-style shape as an ideal one, as what's considered by them to be ideal was thinner a little than them, being taller with wider shoulder, longer legs, smaller and white face. 2. Male College Students'Characteristics of Clothing Purchasing Behavior : In purchasing clothing, male college students were slightly sensitive about the physical part with which they wasn't satisfied. The clothing pattern preferred by them was an abstract one, and their favorite color was white or black. The greatest number of them put most emphasis on design in buying clothing, and they purchased clothing mainly at special fashion shop. On the whole, they showed an affirmative response toward wearing Korean costume, and they also had a positive opinion about the purchase of reformed Korean dress for everyday life. 3. Male College Students'Characteristics of Wearing Clothing : They appeared not to consider making up for physical weakness. Male college students favored aloha shirt and trousers when they went out. Male college students purchase clothing in consideration of individual, manly, classical, tender, or comfortable factors. 4. Relationship of Body Consciousness to Wearing Behavior : The degree to which they considered covering up physical weakness in wearing clothing was examined, by dividing them into two groups : one was a group that thought their own shape normal, and the other was a group that didn't think of their own shape as normal. As a result, both groups appeared not to consider covering up physical weakness.
As the fashion phenomenon changes in the direction of respecting individual tastes it needs to make and effort to search individual clothing-wearing motives. In this study the face to face interviews were carried out to 42 people for 4 months from October 1996 to January 1997. By means of the qualitative data analysis their statements were analyzed. 6 groups were classified on the basis of clothing-wearing motives. Generally consumers began to cognize the necessity of clothing and develops it to situational appropriateness psychological comfort impression management distinction desire and finally attention -receiving desire. The levels of clothing-wearing motives were also interpreted as introversion-extroversion theory. These 6 groups were named in consideration of the highest level of their clothing -searing motives They were respectively the least clothing-cognizing group situation-appropriateness cognizing group psychological comfort cognizing group impression management group distinction desire group attention-receiving desire group. The characteristics of each group were represented based on the interview results and the consuming-behavior of each group was compared. finally the interaction of the clothing-wearing motives and the fashion phenomenon was discussed.
The study investigates the clothes-wearing behaviors of female college students based on differences in indoor heating systems and cold sensitivity. The respondents included a total of 281 female college students living in South Korea and China. Data were analyzed through an ANOVA and, a paired t-test based on SPSS 21.0. Korean students were less dependent on winter clothing than Chinese students for the whole body parts except for the trunk. Korean students were more likely to feel coldness more but wore less clothing. Korean students' clothes-wearing behaviors with respect to coldness depended on the indoor heating system. Korean students tended to buy warmer clothing, although they preferred not to wear undergarments and tended to wear and to wear less winter clothing. Chinese students showed more active clothes-wearing behaviors to keep their feet warm. Finally, groups divided by indoor heating systems and cold sensitivity showed different clothes-wearing behaviors in comparison to those groups based only on indoor heating systems. Even in similar weather conditions, clothes-wearing behaviors for cold adaptation depended on the indoor heating systems and cold sensitivity. The results suggest that this perspective should be taken into consideration when evaluating clothes-wearing behaviors of certain groups or individuals.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the clothing behaviors and wearing sensation of ready-to-wear of the elderly woman who residing in the Pusan and Kimhae. The subjects were elderly woman who assessed the wearing sensation of slacks, jacket 1(1-2button), jacket 2(over 4button), and jumper. The results were as follows: 1. In the analysis of the clothing behaviors factors, the factor 1 was the concern about the appearance, the factor 2 was mental dependency about the clothes, the factor 3 was the satisfaction about the clothes and the factor 4 was the concern about the fashion. 2. As for the wearing sensation of the slacks, waist and thigh of the slacks was large and slacks length and crotch length was long. As for the wearing sensation of the jacket 1, over the age of 70 years was more satisfied than under the age of 70 for the wearing sensation of bust, waist, hip, and sleeve length. As for the wearing sensation of the jacket 2, under the age of 70 years was more satisfied than over the age of 70 for the wearing sensation of sleeve length and location of the armhole. As for the wearing sensation of the jumper, the area showed significant difference in waist. Jumper was larger than jacket.
A rapidly aging Korean population highlights the importance of investigating the actual state and needs of clothing for the elderly to provide basic information for a future senior industry. This paper surveyed clothing purchasing behaviors. The sample of this survey consisted of 210 females aged 55 over who live in Dajeoun and Nonsan. The data were analyzed by using SPSS. The major findings are as follows. First, most elderly women have bought the ready-made clothes in local markets. Second, the major consideration of clothing purchasing behavior was the possibility of outdoor wearing and color. They were satisfied with ready-made clothes because of the convenience to buy, design, and the necessity of the clothing brands for aged people. Third, they preferred pure cotton or mixed cotton even though they possessed the mixed cotton or synthetic fiber in clothing materials. Respondents preferred the feeling, heat-retaining property, and absorptiveness in textiles. The result indicates the demand for various material applications of functional textiles for elderly women.
The purpose of the research is to investigate the payment for clothing and clothing management behavior of the elementary school student children, and to study if there is any specific preference toward clothing according to whether or not they wear school uniform. 403 mothers of two elementary school students in Taegu were selected for this study. 1. There is no difference in the times of purchasing clothing between uniform group and nonuniform group. 2. Compared with their money earning, uniform wearing group more money in their clothing purchasing nonuniform group paid less money regardless of their earning. 3. There is a significant of laundry practices in nonuniform group compared with uniform group. 4. According to the inquiry of the clothing concept between uniform group and nonuniform group, uniform group showed higher satisfaction with their uniform than nonuniform group with their nonuniform. 5. Uniform group showed high positive view on the uniform, and both groups showed partial positive view on the nonuniform. There was a positive correlation among clothing payment, clothing management behavior, and clothing dynamics of both groups.
