  • Spatial variation of diffracting wave amplitudes along a semi-infinite breakwater is investigated using the analytical solution of Penney and Price (1952) for wave diffraction. On the front side of the breakwater, the fluctuation of wave amplitudes due to diffracting waves would cause a wave force greater than that of superposed incident and reflected waves. The diffracting wave phase varies in circular shape from the breakwater tip of (x, y) = (0, 0) whereas the incident and reflected wave phases vary in planar shape. So, the total wave amplitude of the incident (or reflected) waves and the diffracting waves would fluctuate at a position away from the energy discontinuity line. The position (x, y) = (0, y) on the front and lee sides of the breakwater is at a distance y(π/2 - β) of the point on the energy discontinuity line along the diffracting wave crest line. The degree of reduction of the diffraction wave energy is proportional to the distance from the point on the energy discontinuity line along the diffracting wave crest line. Therefore, the diffracting wave amplitudes on the front and lee sides of the breakwater would be inversely proportional to the square root of y(π/2 - β).

  • Objectives : This study was done to investigate the degree of the pulse wave parameter of post-mastectomy women and to identify the relationships between each of them. Methods : Data were obtained from public health center in Busan Metropolitan city. Participants were 82 post-mastectomy women aged 31-82. the data collection was from Oct, 1, 2010 to Oct, 31, 2010. the data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, one-way ANOVA, Duncan test. A p-value less than .05 was considered significant by 2-tailed test. All statistical analyses were performed with SPSS/Win(ver 12.0). Results : As for the difference in the pulse wave by the general characteristics. The pulse energy was showed highly in the order of Chon, Quan and Chuk of left and right pulse respectively. In the pulse energy of left Quan and right Chon, the case of both mastectomy was showed highly and in the pulse energy of left Chuk, the case of right mastectomy was showed highly. Left and right pulse energy of menopause female were significantly higher than normal range except left Chon and Chuk. In h1, h2, h4, h5, t1, t2, AP and Aw, the pulse energy of left Chon was showed the largest significantly. In As, the pulse energy of right Chon was showed the smallest and in Ad, right Chuk was showed the largest. In RAI, right and left Chuk was showed the highest respectively. Conclusions : From these result, we can see that there are relation between women's age, area of operation breast and menopause after mastectomy in pulse wave. The result of this study will become basic data necessary for the Oriental Medicine treatment to reduce or prevent women's functional difficulties, symptomatology after mastectomy.

  • The objective of this study is to analyze the characteristic of radiation environment in the urban and rural through the field observation in the summer. The radiation balance was compared through the measurement of the shortwave radiation and long-wave radiation in the urban, sub-urban, and rural. The following conclusion could be obtained from this research. (1)In the results of observation including the rain-day, it was found that the short wave radiance in the urban is lower about 10% than the rural. (2)The upper part of atmosphere layers in the urban are aabsorb much short wave radiation energies compared with the rural relatively. It can increase the temperature of the upper part of atmosphere layers and the emittance of long wave radiation. (3)The ratio of the downward short wave radiation to the downward long wave radiation was 1.24 for the urban, 1.28 for sub-urban and 1.35 for rural. It can be estimated that the atmosphere condition of the rural is better than that of other areas. (4)The net radiation of the rural was lower that of the urban. It was found that the energy in and outflow of the rural is easier than that of the urban. (5)The temperature variation for the long-wave radiation change of the rural showed more sensitive than that of the urban. It was came from the radiation characteristics of the surrounding environment and can be used as the important index to evaluate the thermal environment characteristic of urban.

  • Experimental results are given for the vertical motion of water in the water chambers for wave energy converter aligned along the wave propagation direction in order to avoid the impulsive wave forces. This paper mainly focuses on the property of the amplitude of the vertical motion of the water surface in the chambers. The amplification has been investigated by dimensionless parameters of wave period to resonance period ratio of the U-shaped oscillation, $T/T_r$, chamber size to wave length ratio, l/L, water depth to wave length ratio, h/L, amplitude of up-down motion of water particles to draft of the front wall ratio, ${\zeta}/D$. It has been shown that l/L should be less than 0.1 and as $T/T_r$ approaches unity the up-down of the water in the chambers is amplified. Also, the structure of the walls which form th water chambers has been examined roughly. It is deduced that the chambers set on both sides of the hull of a single-point moored floating vessel is preferable to those set along a fixed structure such as breakwaters.

  • Floating breakwaters have been recently studied to reduce the transmission ratio of wave energy. The numerical study shows how wave pressure and stress act on the rectangular floating breakwater under various regular wave conditions. In order to evaluate hydrodynamic pressure on the floating breakwater, the infinite element is applied to the linear wave diffraction and radiation problems. SAP2000, a structural analysis program, is used to evaluate stress on the floating breakwater.

  • In this paper, we consider the Cauchy problem for a class of nonlinear sixth-order wave equation. The global existence and the finite time blow-up for the problem are proved by the potential well method at both low and critical initial energy levels. Furthermore, we present some sufficient conditions on initial data such that the weak solution exists globally at supercritical initial energy level by introducing a new stable set.

  • Radiation energy budget was analyzed using observation data from the Weather Information Service Engine (WISE) energy flux tower on the Seoul metropolitan area. Among observation data from the 13 energy flux towers, we used meteorological variables, radiation data (upward and downward short wave, upward and downward long wave, net short wave, net long wave and net radiation), albedo and emissivity for 15 months from July 2016 to September 2017. Although Gajwa (205) and Ttuksumm (216) sites located in urban, the albedo was relatively high due to the surround environment by glass wall buildings and the Han river around the sites. And Bucheon (209) site located in the suburb represented generally low emissivity. As a result, the albedo decreased and the emissivity increased in the city center. In the Seoul metropolitan area, the net radiation energy is $73.9W/m^2$ that the radiation budget of the surface is absorbed into the atmosphere. According to WISE observation data, it can be seen that observation at each sites are influenced by the surrounding environment.

  • Limited quantity and non-uniform distribution of fossil fuel over the world, along with the environmental concerns of increasing $CO_2$ emissions, indicate that gradual and planned switchover to the sustainable energy sources is the need of the day. Ocean energy is well-distributed over the coasts, abundant, renewable and available in the form of wave energy, tidal energy and thermal energy. India has gathered precious experience from the pilot plants utilizing these methods over the last few years. One of the main constraints is deemed to be the grid connectivity. Time has come to transform this limitation into opportunity. Ocean power can be a very suitable option for the coastal belts and the islands. Implementation of this concept would require large-scale industry participation along with favourable government policies in the coming years. This article attempts a review of the ocean energy initiatives in India and proposes a roadmap for the future.
