  • We investigate how the frequency and the Fourier amplitude of the pulse wave behave as the contact pressure of the sensor on the skin increases. The results are that the fundamental frequency of the pulse wave hardly changes and the Fourier amplitude has several different patterns depending on the personal constitution, and its patterns are classified. We also show that the classified patterns can be related to the different pulse types by the magnitude of the pressure required to reach the maximum Fourier amplitude and the range of the pressure at which the maximum Fourier amplitude is maintained.

  • A set of equations for description of transformation of harmonic waves is proposed here. Velocity potential function and separation of variables are introduced for the derivation. The continuity equation is in a vertical plane is integrated through the water so that a horizontal one-dimensional wave equation is produced. The new equation composed of the complex velocity potential function, further be modified into. A set up of equations composed of the wave amplitude and wave phase gradient. The horizontally one-dimensional equations on the wave amplitude and wave phase gradient are the first and second-order ordinary differential equations. They are solved in a one-way marching manner starting from a side where boundary values are supplied, i.e. the wave amplitude, the wave amplitude gradient, and the wave phase gradient. Simple spatially-centered finite difference schemes are adopted for the present set of equations. The equations set is applied to three test cases, Booij's inclined plane slope profile, Massel's smooth bed profile, and Bragg's wavy bed profile. The present equations set is satisfactorily verified against existing theories including Massel's modified mild-slope equation, Berkhoff's mild-slope equation, and the full linear equation.

  • A numerical model is represented to calculate the reflected waves, the runup of waves and the wave induced velocities on impermeable slopes for the normally incident wave trains of nonlinear monochromatic wave and solitary wave. The finite amplitude shallow water equations with the effects of bottom friction are solved numerically in time domain using an explicit dissipative Lax-Wendroff finite difference method. The numerical model is verified by comparisons with the other numerical results, the measured data and asymptotic results. It is found that the uprushing and downrushing of incident waves may be accurately predicted by the present numerical model. Therefore, the present numerical model can be applicable to swells as well as long waves.

  • Experimental investigation of nonlinear instability of deep-water wave train is performed. Two-dimensional Benjamin-Feir type wave instability and breaking are observed at wave steepness between 0.19 and 0.25 and three-dimensional instability and breaking at wave steepness greater than or equal to 0.31. At the same wave steepness, shorter waves with smaller amplitude are more unstable, with earlier occurrence of breaking, than long waves with large amplitude.

  • This study examined the effects of buoy shape and Nonlinear Froude-Krylov force (NFK) on a heaving-buoy-type Wave Energy Converter (WEC). Based on the Maclaurin expansion, the theoretical solutions of the NFK were derived for three different buoy shapes; hemispheric buoy, circular vertical cylinder, and truncated conical cylinder. A hydraulic power take-off system was adopted, and the latching control strategy was applied to maximize the extracted power from the WEC. The nonlinear effects of the Froude-Krylov force and restoring force on the heaving point absorber were investigated by comparing the heave Response Amplitude Operator (RAO) and time-averaged power extraction. The results showed that the conventional linear analyses were overestimated by up to 50% under the high amplitude wave condition. The latching control strategy was the most effective when peak wave period of regular or irregular wave was 0.4-0.45 times the heave natural period of the buoy.

  • Due to tidal force, it is very difficult to estimate the hydraulic parameters of high permeable aquifer near coastal area in Jeju Island. Therefore, to eliminate the impact of tidal force from groundwater level and estimate the hydraulic properties, tidal response technique has been mainly studied. In this study we have extracted 38 tidal constituents from groundwater level and harmonic constants including frequency, amplitude, and phase of each constituent using T_TIDE subroutine which is used to estimate oceanic tidal constituents, and then we have estimated hydraulic diffusivity associated with amplitude attenuation factor(that is the ratio of groundwater level amplitude to sea level amplitude for each tidal constituent) and phase lag(that is phase difference between groundwater level and sea level for each constituent). Also using harmonic constants for each constituent, we made the sinusoidal wave and then we constructed the synthesized wave which linearly combined sinusoidal wave. Finally, we could get residuals(net groundwater level) which was excluded most of tidal influences by eliminating synthesized wave from raw groundwater level. As a result of comparing statistics for synthesized level and net groundwater level, we found that the statistics for net groundwater level was more insignificant than those of synthesized wave. Moreover, in case of coastal aquifer which the impact of tidal force is even more than those of other environmental factors such as rainfall and groundwater yield, it is possible to predict groundwater level using synthesized wave and regression analysis of residuals.

  • A high-order spectral/boundary-element method is newly adapted as an efficient numerical tool. In this method, the velocity potential is expressed as the sum of surface potential and body potential. Then, surface potential is solved fly using the high-order spectral method and body potential is solved fly using the high-order boundary element method. Through the combination of these two methods, the wave-making problems fly a submerged sphere moving with the large amplitude oscillation are solved in time-domain. With the example calculations, nonlinear effects on free-surface profiles and hydrodynamic forces are shown and discussed.

  • The visual evoked potential was electrophysiological method for the identify of the EEG response on visual cortex. This test was objective test method on the eye function. This study was used the visual evoked potential for the objective color test. The subjects was a normal color function in Korean adults. The test condition was performed on the differens distance and illumination. According to convergence condition of color vision target. On the appearance of EEG wave of visual stimulation on visual cortex. The most EEG wave style was delta wave, and the next amount wave form was beta wave and theta wave, and the least EEG wave form was alpha wave. The histogram of amplitude of EEG wave form was almost non-Gaussian shape, and the phase diagram of amplitude was almost all linear shape. On the kinds of color vision target, the frequency of EEG wave style appeared a similar results.

  • In this work, we investigate the effect of blood hematocrit level on the radial pulse wave to study the clinical application of the pulse analyzer. For this purpose, we measured the radial pulse wave at the left Gwan for 15 males with abnormal high hematocrit level and 47 males with normal hematocrit level at the age of thirties and forties. Various variables of the radial pulse wave between two groups were analyzed by Student's T test. We found significant differences in several characteristic variables in the amplitude, time-span and the integrated area of the amplitude and time of the pulse wave. The systolic peak in the amplitude of the radial pulse wave was higher in abnormal high hematocrit group. In contrast, the third peak from the second incisure was higher and longer in normal hematocrit group. Our study suggests that the radial pulse wave can be useful in distinguishing the patient group with high hematocrit level and thus with high blood viscosity. Our finding may motivate research activities towards diverse clinical applications of the pulse wave.

  • The low-k SiOCH thin films were prepared by CCP-PECVD method using BTMSM(Bis-trimethylsilylmethane) precursors deposited on p-Si wafer. The structural complexity originate the complex refractive constants of the films, and resulted the elliptical polarization of the incident linearly polarized light source of Xe-ramp in the range from 190nm to 2100nm. Phase difference and amplitude ratio between s wave and p wave propagating through SiOCH thin film was studied. After annealing, the amplitude of p wave was reduced more than s wave, and phase difference between p and s wave was also reduced.
