  • Application of water-saving self-feeders can reduce water consumption of pigs by more than 50% . so the feeding-watering system one of the most important way of the reduction of the slurry. Bioactive deep litter housing can eliminate slurry. Matured urine, faeces and litter can use for the purposes of soil conditioning and fertilizing . Water-saving slurry handling technology can halve manure dilution so it can double the nutrient content of the slurry. By using of straw bale biofilter for reducing emissions of pig houses makes fattening of pigs possible close to populated area. Developed rate control system for slurry application make avoiding over-fertilization possible , can fulfill better the demand of nutrient of plants. By means of computer aided manure utilization system area distribution of soil characteristics can determinate . The system is suitable for planning the utilization of manure and slurry in environment -friendly way.

  • Humidity curing of the concrete after placing is significant to ensure the crack resistance, strength, and durability. Generally, there are watering and sheet curing methods as humidity curing methods to the upper part of slab concrete, therefore this study investigates effects of these curing methods to preservation of humidity on the cement mortar.

  • Porous alumina ceramics were fabricated by pseudo-boehmite phydosol-gel process within/without commercial $\alpha$-alumina particles average 1 and 40 micron respectively. The pore characteristics of fired specimens were studied by the measurement of bulk density total porosity thyermal analysis pore volume pore distribution BET area XRD and SEM. with increasing of firing temperature pore volume and BET surface area were decreased and the average pore size was increased to approximately 146$\AA$ upto 80$0^{\circ}C$ by de-watering of [OH] and formation of $\alpha$-alumina. The fired relative density of the alumina-dispersed specimen with average 1 micron particle was increased with the amounts of dispersed particle by bimodal packing theory which is compared to the ones of specimen including of average 40 micron particle. It was confirmed that the percola-tion threshold in porous ceramics with coarser particle (40 micron) has formed between the transformed-alumina from hydrogel and dispersed-alumina of above 50 vol% particle and the total porosity was increased at the threshold point above.

  • Soybean and mungbean sprouts are vegetables indigenous to Korea which have been grown throughout the year from the most remote age. They had been called interchangeably as duchaeah or duah. Control method of environmental conditions for soybean or mungbean sprouts growing had been already appreciated from long time ago. A growing method once developed might have been handed over considerable period. Siroo (시루) and yongsoo (용수) had been the most common containers and the watering skill is of the utmost importance for soybean sprouts growing. As the demand of soybean sprouts in the market increased, a pit has been used for bean sprouts growing, and transformed into regular soybean sprouts factory. Now bean sprouts are international food and the demand of bean sprouts seems permanent in Korea. Accordingly the long-term policy concerned with the production of soybean sprouts should be prepared, placing emphasis on improved quality and safety.

Development of Integrated Cultivation Machine System for Oyster-Mushroom

  • The study aimed to develop a mechanized mushroom growing system for the substrate materials mixing and wetting, materials fermentation and pasteurisation through the design of integrated cultivation machine system for oyster mushroom. The power requirement of the prototype during fermentation operation was measured in the range of 31$\~$33 kg-m and the torque has not so much differ by the kinds and quantity of materials. The work efficiency of conventional method for stacking the heap and turning the heap of cotton waste by tractor rotavator and manual wetting required 78 hours. But the watering, fermentation and sterilisation by the prototype use same operation required 25.5 hours, which can save the operation labour by $67\%$. The machine can be saved the requirement of heating energy by $63\%$, and the machine can also be saved the material cost by $44\%$. It is envisaged that the machine can effectively be used for large mushroom growing farms or joint use mushroom growing group-farmers in a village.

Enhanced drought tolerance by expression of hvDhn5 gene in poplar

  • We transferred Dhn5 (dehydrin5) gene from barley to poplar to determine the effect of its expression on the transgenic poplars. The results from northern blot analysis showed that the expression level of gene varied among the transgenic lines. During their culture on tissue culture media, the transgenic poplars formed vigorous growing callus in the presence of 5% PEG. When the transgenic poplars were growing in pots and witheld watering, they stayed much healthier than nontransgenic poplars. The transgenic poplars showed higher rates of photosynthetic rates, stomatal conductance and evaporation rates under the drought stress, although there was no significant difference in soil water content within the treatments. The relative electrical conductivity of the transgenic poplars after 20% PEG treatment was lower than that of nontransgenic poplars. The results provide evidence that the expression of hvDhn5 gene conferred drought tolerance in the transgenic poplars.

  • The amount of water for the cultivation of citrus is different based on the growing period. The water content in the leaves of citrus can be a index for watering during cultivation. The purpose of this study is to determine non-destructively the water content of Citrus leaves by using near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS). Citrus leaves were prepared from satsuma mandarin leaves (Citrus unshiu Marc. var. okitsu) ranging from 62.20 to 69.98% of water content by loss on drying, NIR reflectance spectra of Citrus leaves were acquired by using a fiber optic probe.
