IMI-O 고분자의 단분자막과 LB막에 대한 표면분석 (Surface Analysis of LB Films and Monolayer for IMI-O Polymer)

  • We fabricated an IMI-O polymer containing an imidazole group that could form a complex structure between the monolayer and the metal ions at the air-water interface. Also. the monolayer behavior at the air-water interface and the surface morphology of metal-complexed Langmuir-Blodgett(LB) films were investigated by using Brewster angle microscopy(BAM) and Scanning Maxwell-stress Microscopy(SMM). The difference in the BAM and SMM images between the pure water and the aqueous metal ions is attributed to the interactions of the copolymers with the metal ions at the interface and the consequent change of the monolayer organization.

  • It is well known that the state of existence of molecules on the surface of water changes during compression of the molecules. Electric methods, such as the measurement of the surface potential or displacement current, are also useful for investigating dynamic changes of the molecular state on the water surface during compression. Maxwell-Displacement-Current(MDC) measuring technique has been applied to the study of monolayers of Arachidic acid and L-$\alpha$-Dimyristoyl Phosphatidylcholine(L-$\alpha$-DMPC). The displacement current was generated from monolayers on a water surface by monolayer compression. Displacement current was generated in the gas state, gas/liquid state, and liquid state in the course of monolayer compression. The researchers examined diplacement current of electric conduction organic monolayer generated due to orient change of monolayers alkylchain.

  • Monolayer transition metal dicalcogenide (TMDC) materials are currently attracting extensive attention due to their distinctive electronic, transport, and optical properties. For example, monolayer $MoS_2$ exhibits a direct band gap in the visible frequency range, which makes it an attractive candidate for the photocatalytic water splitting. For the photoelectrochemical water splitting, the appropriate band edge positions that overlap with the water redox potential are necessary. Similarly, appropriate band level alignments will be crucial for the light emitting diode and photovoltaic applications utlizing heterojunctions between two TMDC materials. Carrying out first-principles calculations, we here investigate how the band edges of $MoS_2$ can be adjusted by surface ligand functionalization. This study will provide useful information for the realization of ligand-based band engineering of monolayer $MoS_2$ for various electronic, energy, and bio device applications.

  • Electrical properties of both a monolayer at the air/water interface and Langmuir-Blodgett films sandwiched between aluminum electrodes are studied using a current-measuring technique. A change in induced charges on an electrode suspended in the air was measured in combination with the surface area isotherm in the electrical measurement of the monolayer. A change in induced charges on an electrode is measured while heating the sample in the electrical measurement of the LB films. From both measurements, we elucidated that a spontaneous polarization plays very important role in the electrical properties of both a monolayer at the air/water interface and LB films sandwiched between aluminum electrodes.

  • Displacement current measuring technique has been applied on the study of polyamic acid monolayer containing p-nitroazobenzene. The displacement current was generated from monolayer on the water surface by monolayer compression and expansion. Maxwell displacement current(MDC) was generated when the area per molecule was about $200{\AA}^2$ and $70{\AA}^2$. Maxwell displacement currents were investigated in connection with monolayer compression cycles. It was found that the maximum of MDC appeared at the molecular area just before the initial rise of surface pressure in compression cycles. The monolayer surface morphology of the LB film have been measured by Atomic Force Microscope(AFM). As a result, we confirmed that the microscopic properties of LB film by AFM showed the good orientation of monolayer molecules and the thickness of monolayer was 3.5-4.1nm.

Superb Mechanical Stability of n-Octadecyltriethoxysilane Monolayer Due to Direct Chemical Bonds between Silane Headgroups and Mica Surface: Part II

  • It is still controversial where the improved stability of n-octadecyltriethoxysilane self-assembled monolayer (OTE SAM) on plasma-pretreated mica surface exactly originates from. To date, it has been well known that the extensive cross-polymerization between silane headgroups is a crucial factor for the outstanding mechanical strength of the monolayer. However, this study directly observed that the stability comes not only from the cross-links but also, far more importantly, from the direct chemical bonds between silane headgroups and mica surface. To observe this phenomenon, n-octadecyltrichlorosilane monolayers were self-assembled on both untreated and plasma treated mica surfaces, and their adhesion properties at various stress conditions and force profiles in pure water were investigated and compared through the use of the surface forces apparatus technique. It revealed that, in pure water, there is a substantial difference of stability between untreated and plasma treated cases and the plasma treated surface is mechanically much more stable. In particular, the protrusion behavior of the monolayer during contact repetition experiment was always observed in the untreated case, but never in the plasma treated case. It directly demonstrates that the extensive chemical bonds indeed exist between silane head-groups and plasma treated mica surface and dramatically improve the mechanical stability of the OTE monolayer-coated mica substrate.

수면상에서 L-α-Dilauryl phosphatidylcholine 단분자층의 맥스웰 변위전류에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Maxwell Displacement Current in Monolayer of L-α-Dilauryl phosphatidylcholine on the Water Surface)

  • 변위전류 측정법을 L-${\alpha}$-dilauryl phosphatidylcholine(DLPC) 단분자 막의 연구에 적용하였다. 변위전류는 물 표면에서 DLPC 단분자 층에서 압축과 확장에 의해 발생되었다. 맥스웰 변위전류(MDC) 발생은 분자 당 점유면적 $200{\AA}^2$ 에서 $40{\AA}^2$에 대하여 관찰하였다. 맥스웰 변위전류는 단분자 층의 압축 사이클에 대해 조사하였으며, MDC의 최대 값은 압축 사이클의 표면 압력이 처음 상승하기 바로 직전의 분자당 점유면적에서 나타나는 것을 알 수 있었다. LB막의 단분자층 표면 형태는 원자힘 현미경(AFM)으로 측정하였다. 결과적으로, AFM 이미지에 나타난 LB막의 특성은 단분자 층의 배향이 좋았으며 단분자 층의 두께는 약 5~10 nm였다.

Different Adsorption Behavior of Rare Earth and Metallic Ion Complexes on Langmuir Monolayers Probed by Sum-Frequency Generation Spectroscopy

  • Adsorption behavior of counterions under a Langmuir monolayer was investigated by sum-frequency generation (SFG) spectroscopy. By comparing SFG spectra of arachidic acid (AA) Langmuir monolayer/water interface with and without added salt, it was found that the simple trivalent cation $La^{3+}$ adsorbed on AA monolayer only when the carboxylic headgroups are charged (deprotonated), implying that counterion adsorption is induced by Coulomb interaction. On the other hand, metal hydroxide complex $Fe(OH)_3$ adsorbed even on a charge-neutral AA monolayer, indicating that the adsorption of iron hydroxide is due to chemical interaction such as covalent or hydrogen bonding to the headgroup of the molecules at the monolayer.

수면상 단분자막의 변위전류 (Displacement current of monolayer film on the water surface)

  • Using the home made Kuhn type LB (Langmuir - Blodgett) film's deposition apparatus, We measured the displacement current of monolayer film on the water surface. The obtained displacement current had each different pattern by the kind of solution while varying pressure of the monolayer. Solution of 4 - octyl - 4' - (5 - carboxyl - pentamethyleneoxy ) - azobenzene (8A5H) and stearic acid (CH$_{3}$(CH$_{2}$)$_{16}$COOH) (C18) were spreaded at the air water interface respectively, and the current induced by the dynamic behavior of molecules were pressed by barrier. Displacement current of 8A5H measured small current than C18 at same condition and it was positive direction when increasing pressure but it was negative direction when decreasing pressure. Also, Two patterns of displacement current were symmetrical form and appeared repeatedly. The C18 has unsymmetrical form of displacement current and weak current when decreasing pressure (expansion). The C18 molecules have two distinct peak values of displacement current that show that the orientations of molecules were changed largely at this points. From these results, we obtained that the 8A5H has more elasticity than the C18.8.C18.

국부 마취제로 이용되는 Lidocaine 화합물들이 공기/물 계면에 형성된 지질 단분자 막의 팽창효과에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Lidocaine Compounds on the Expansion of Lipid Monolayer at the Air/Water Interface)

  • 국부 마취제로 이용되는 lidocaine 화합물들이 마취 효과를 나타내는 과정을 알아보기 위하여 세포벽을 구성하는 지질 이중막의 모사 시스템으로 공기/물 계면에 형성된 지질 단분자 막을 이용하여 lidocaine 화합물들이 지질 단분자 막의 팽창에 미치는 영향을 연구하였다. Lidocaine이 신경 세포와 접하게 되면 세포벽을 구성하는 지질 이중막을 팽창시켜 이중막에 함침된 단백질을 압축하여 이를 통한 이온 통과가 차단되어 신경 전달이 마비된다는 가설과, 단백질 이온 통로에 존재하는 lidocaine receptor에 직접 흡착되어 이온 통로를 막는다는 가설이 구체적 실험 없이 제안되었다. 본 연구에서는 두 가설 타당성을 증명하고자 리피드 단분자 막팽창에 lidocaine이 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 실험 결과 유용성인 lidocaine은 phosphatidyl choline, sphingomyelin, DS-PL95E, lipoid의 단분자 막을 수축시켰으며 phosphatidyl ethanolamine은 특정 조성 범위에서만 단분자 막을 팽창시켰다. 반면 수용성인 lidocaine-HCl 염은 실험에 사용된 모든 지질의 단분자 막을 팽창시켰다.
