  • Estuary barrier is a hydraulic structure constructed to supply safely water as protecting chlorine penetration of sea water. However, the barrier brings about a problem which decreases original functions of estuary because hydraulic ecology was disrupted as obstructing natural water exchange between fresh water and sea water. It is important to supply Enough fresh water in the estuary ecosystem. But it is possible to reduce the problems brought from barrier throughout efficient water gate operation of estuary barrier. It was shown in this study that the environmental effect of estuary in Nakdong river was investigated according to the control of water level. Also, the basic information about the effective water gate operation was provided. The analysis results showed that the release rate of estuary was increased about 20% as changing the operational water levels. This helps supplying fresh water durably to the mixing zone. Also, CE-QUAL-W2 model was utilized to assess water quality. The values of BOD and COD were not changed in estuary area. From the result, it was analyzed the effect of water quality according to the water gate operation was not indicated.

  • The purpose of this paper was developing a development density control model for urban growth management, using system dynamics modeling. The density control model was developed to see how urban growth, transition, and decay occur depending on the interaction among population, houses, industry structure, land and urban infrastructure such as road, water supply, and sewage treatment facilities. Suggesting adequate level of development density control using the model was another purpose of this paper. The model was applied to An'yang city to estimate the maximum number of population, industry structures, houses, and cars that can be adequately sustained with the current An'yang city's infrastructur capacity. The computer simulation results shows that the city is overpopulated by some 90,000 people. To reduce the population to the adequate level that the current urban infrastructure can sustain, the current city regulation on floor area ratio are needed to be strengthened at least 20 to 35%.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the reflectance of bed materials according to changes in the water level using a drone-based hyperspectral sensor. For this purpose, we took hyperspectral images of bed materials such as soil, gravel, cobble, reed, and vegetation to compare and analyze the spectral data of each material. To adjust the water level, we constructed an experimental channel to control the discharge and installed the bed materials within the channel. In this study, we configured 3 cases according to the water level (0.0 m, 0.3 m, 0.6 m). After the imaging process, we used the mean value of 10 points for each bed material as analytical data. According to the analysis, each material showed a similar reflectance by wavelength and the intrinsic reflectance characteristics of each material were shown in the visible and near-infrared region. Also, the deeper the water level, the lower the peak reflectance in the visible and near-infrared region, and the rate of decrease differed depending on the bed material. We expect the intrinsic properties of these bed materials to be used as basic research data to evaluate river environments in the future.

  • To lessen the initial level of microorganisms, electrolyzed acid-water was used as washing and brine water in the manufacturing process. On the washing and salting processes, application of electrolyzed acid-water showed a possibility to lessen the microorganism level of Chinese cabbage effectively. Microbial level of Chinese cabbage was reduced to about 1/4 level by salting and washing process with electrolyzed acid-water while Chinese cabbage salted with tap water increased to about 1.7 times. And no coliform and E. coli were detected. However significant differences between seasoning mixtures prepared with electrolyzed acid-water and with tap water were not observed in microbial levels. Relatively low level of total count in kimchi prepared with electroyzed acid-water was kept until 15 days of fermentation at $10^{\circ}C.$ Any significant difference between them was not observed after 20 days of fermentation. pH and acidity were showed the same tendencies as microbial count.

  • This study was carried out to determine the mechanical and physical properties of particle boards glued with condensed tannin (Wattle Tannin) powder that was single-molecule phenolic compounds like powdered phenolic resin. Our findings are; 1) It is necessary to spray water on the chip surfaces for effective application of powdered -form tannin resin. It shows that the best and optimum mat moisture increase is 14% of water spray on the surface of chips for developing PB properties. 2) In general, for both liquid and powdered tannin adhesives, their physical and mechanical properties has been proportional to the increase of resin level. But, the most efficient addition ratio is 16% of resin on dry basis. Specially, it is found that the resin level influences on the amount of free formaldehyde emission. The higher the resin level is, the lower the emission is. These phenomena seem to result from the increase of hexamine or formaline in the adhesives used as a hardener, that reduce the free-formaldehyde amount by reaction of tannin of poly-molecule and water. 3) The optimum condition for manufacturing PBs is the condition of hexamine of 5% and formaline of 6% in mechanical and physical properties. Hexamine is superior to formaline in mechanical and physical properties along with the control of the free formaldehyde emission amount. The result of NaOH's addition is insignificant in all experiments of both mechanical and physical properties.

  • The present study analyzed noise reduction and long/short-term components for discharge, TOC concentration, and TOC load data in order to understand the data characteristics better. For the purpose, wavelet transform which can reduce noise from raw data and has flexible resolution in time and frequency domain was applied and the theory of nonlinear dynamics was also used to determine the last decomposition level for wavelet transform. Wavelet function of 'db10' and the 7th level for the last decomposition of wavelet transform were applied for the all data in the present study. Also the results revealed that the energy ratios of approximation components with 187-hour periodicity decomposed from 7th level of wavelet transform were 94.71% (discharge), 99.00% (TOC concentration), and 93.84% (TOC load), respectively. In addition, the energy ratios of detail components showed the range between 1.00% and 6.17%, which were extremely small comparing to the energy ratios of approximation components, therefore, the first and second detail components might be considered as noise components included in the raw data.

  • Background: Physical activity has been found to play a role in cancer prevention. The purpose of this matched case-control study was to investigate the association between physical activity levels, water intake, constipation and colorectal cancer (CRC). Materials and Methods: Two hundred and thirty-two patients diagnosed with CRC (125 male, 107 female) were enrolled in this case-control study. Cases were matched to 271 population controls (137 male, 134 female). Results: Drinking more than 4 cups of water daily decreased the risk of CRC by 33-42%; however, this effect was non-significant. Having constipation was found to be a significant risk factor for developing CRC with an OR=6.284 (95%CI=2.741-14.40). With reference to sedentary behavior, minimum activity (600-3000 Metabolic Equivalents Task (MET)) had 43% protection against CRC and the level of Health Enhancing Physical Activity OR was 0.58 (at 95%CI; 0.37-0.92). A significant negative association was found between CRC and physical activity levels expressed as both METs and MET-hours/week (p for trend=0.017 and 0.03, respectively). Among females, a significant trend of reduction in CRC by 62% was observed with increasing the level of physical activity expressed in MET (p for trend=0.04). Conclusions: The risk of CRC may be reduced by adopting a healthy lifestyle and practicing physically activity regularly, especially among females. Consuming adequate amounts of water and healthy bowel motility could also reduce the risk of CRC.

  • An experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of dietary water-soluble carbohydrate extract from Renga renga lily (Arthropodium cirratum) and a commercial product, $Frutafit^{{\circledR}}$ (both fructans) on the performance, organ weights, ileal digestibility and gut morphology of male Cobb broiler chickens. There were six treatment groups: a negative control with no supplements, a positive control supplemented with 45 ppm Zn-bacitracin, and four test diets each supplemented with Renga renga lily extract or Frutafit at 5 or 10 g/kg diet. Supplementation with low levels of Renga renga lily extract and Frutafit in the diet did not affect productive parameters, whereas the inclusion of a high level of Frutafit had a negative effect on BWG and FI compared with birds fed the negative control diet. The addition of an antibiotic to the diet significantly improved (p<0.05) the BWG and FCR of broilers. Apparent ileal digestibility of dry matter, starch, protein and fat was not affected (p>0.05) by supplementation with both levels of lily extract and the low level of Frutafit. The apparent ileal digestibility of dry matter, protein and fat was decreased (p<0.05) by the high level of Frutafit. The apparent metabolisable energy (AME) of the diets fed the high level of Frutafit was approximately 0.2 MJ/kg DM lower than that of the negative control group. The addition of Zn-bacitracin increased (p<0.05) the apparent ileal digestibility of fat. The relative weight of the liver was higher (p<0.05) in broilers supplemented with the high level of Frutafit than for negative control birds at 14 and 35 d of age. Feeding Renga renga lily extract or Frutafit had no effect on the gut morphology of birds on d 14 and 35. It can be concluded that dietary inclusion of fructans from the two sources used in this study affected broiler performance differently and in a dose-dependent manner.
